The larvae were maggots, and they are dead. I called them larvae to try to make them sound scary, when they were just a couple of bugs eating a dead bug.

"Yes, I can bloody well understand you! What the hell is going on?!"

The spider keels over with an echoing crunch. Now that you can see it better, it becomes apparent that it was long dead. However, you notice its abdomen wiggling as if it is having some kind of posthumous seizure. You watch, horrified, as two bloated larvae burst out.

GM? You there?

Yes. I just prefer to let everyone post before I move on with the story. I will try to give notice if I have to go anywhere. As far as I know, I don't have anything for the next three weeks.

As you look around, it appears that several others have survived the fall. One, a short-haired woman, seems to have just awoken, and is trying to dislodge her leg from a heap of rubble. An unconscious elf lays nearby, an odor of burnt flesh coming from his face. On the other side of the mound of rocks, a stocky human man is curled up on the ground. The moaning noises seem to be coming from him.

Okay, looks like everyone is done interacting.

The ceiling and far walls of this vast cavern recede into darkness.
On one side, the wall has collapsed in an enormous mound of
rubble—here and there the arms or legs of victims who didn’t
survive the fall protrude. In the back of the cavern, a disturbing
shape looms. Nearly the size of a horse, what appears to be an
immense black spider crouches silent and still on the ground.

before all went black, in Kenabres...

the lone figure draped in a worn yet old cloak, keeping most of her features concealed wandered the markets of Kenabres, It had been a long time since the exiled crusader was in this city. how she would be received lingered in her mind, recalling the inquisitions during her last visit.

then suddenly there was an explosion, a battle in the skies. disaster had struck. she barely had the chance to realize why she was sent to Kenabres by the spirit that had saved her only a couple of days earlier in what remained of her old home in the Worldwound.

Suddenly the lone knight was falling, then everything went dark...

onto the present situation...

Sabrina was the last, or at least near the last, to regain consciousness. slowly she pulls herself to her knees. feeling what she thought was sweat on her forehead, she wipes it away to reveal blood on her hand. Sabrina was cut on her forehead.

that would explain it she whispered.

She takes a moment to check her surroundings but the darkness is suddenly pierced by a light. She was not alone.

She gets to her feet and adjusts her cloak once more. is anyone hurt? she asks to all that can hear. Sabrina immediately looks for others in the room.

Technically, you are not supposed to remember that until a tiny bit later, but who cares.

You awaken to darkness. Dust cakes your bodies and obstructs your lungs. Your head hurts so much you can barely think, but already it seems to be clearing up. All that you can hear is moaning, coughing, and rocks grinding. Upon moving your limbs, you find that your body feels like one massive bruise.

I assume everyone is at least somewhat familiar with Kenabres?

Alright, looks like I'm the one everybody is waiting on. Let's go.

Belg, are you here?

Alright, who's ready?

Okay, actually making a discussion thread would have been helpful; I should do that.

This is the discussion thread. Put questions for the GM and other OOC stuff here.

I still need to do some tweaking, but it is done for the most part.
The character venerates Nethys but has yet to attempt petitioning the clergy. This is when the Gestalt kicks in he will go cleric. I was thinking of doing the old fashion 3 levels cleric 3 levels mage and the the gestalt part would be the Mystic Theurge..not sure if the GM would allow that as it would make him a 3 wizard/ 3 Cleric/ 6 Mystic Theurge. Which would make him a caster level of 9 wizard and 9 cleric, pretty nasty combo. Now if the GM Sam is cool with that I will be happy to go that direction.
Thanks for the consideration
I will allow this, but I will house-rule that no prestige class can allow you to have a caster level higher than you Hit Dice.
Totally up to the GM in this but what I have seen is that PC that give full class progression become the only levels you progress in. So once you reach MT you no longer progress as Wizard/Cleric but only MT. I have seen that with Eldrich Knight too.

I have no idea what happens with gestalt and prestige classes. I am willing to make some house rules to make it work though, if necessary.

When does recruitment end?

Recruitment ends today, if everyone is ready.

Okay. I have 6 characters that I will probably use. However, I realize that there are some questions about availability of material that I have forgotten to answer. Just to clarify, Path of War is fine; anything to do with psionics is not. If anyone has to make any adjustments, I will give them about a day to get back to me.

Alright, I'm back. Now I have to choose characters. Hoo boy.

It is not done, but I have been out of town for a while. I finally found time to post. I can definitively say that things will be back to normal for me one week from today. Please do not lose interest while I am gone.

Previously, I had not set an end date for recruitment. How much time does everyone need to finish up?

Can you find a way to send me that PDF? I need to know what this class does. If that is too much hassle, the Ecclesitheurge cleric archetype has a similar feel.

Let's see.. there's THIS link, but that's not KP's entry. The differences from that entry are as follows:

LOST
• Fort Save changed to "Poor" from "Good" progression.
• Channel Energy down to d6 from d8.
• One spell per level.

GAINED
• "Divine Gift" 1/day, +1 every 3 levels (essentially a Cleric spell rider, with the restriction of "self" or "one ally/enemy", with the exception of the "Smiting Burst" option. "Only cleric
spells can be enhanced by a divine gift. A spell can
only benefit from the effects of a single divine gift
when cast".)
• Sacred Bond (Holy Symbol or deity-relevant magic item)
• One more domain (3 total)

This is alright, I guess.

Two questions:

1) When you say "normal starting wealth", what exactly do you mean? Average for class?

2) Do we start with the normal 2 traits? If so, does one need to be a campaign trait? The WotR campaign traits seem to be pretty closely tied to the Mythic paths, so if we're not going mythic it seems like there's less reason to take a campaign trait.

1) I did mean average for class.

2) You get two traits. I would encourage campaign traits, since they are good for roleplaying, but they are no means necessary and whether or not you use them will not affect if you get picked.

Gaaah! I need to change my default alias.

Submission (this time in the post since it was missed before)

Your fluff is excellent. You did not need to write the story part, but it was well written and I enjoyed reading it. I especially like the connection with Yaniel; that will be fun to roleplay.

I don't have time to look over the Warlord class right now, but I will later today. In the meantime, assume it is allowed unless there is something unbalanced or just plain stupid, like Quivering Palm.

First - thanks for throwing your hat in the ring for PbP gaming. IMHO it is fantastic.

Second - what are you looking for in an applicant? Posting rate? Crunch? Role Play? Random roll to determine who is in, who is out?

Just curious so I know what elements to include in my character applicant.

I will be selecting primarily based off of backstory. Crunch is less important, and I don't really care too much about posting rate.

EDIT: I would like people to try to post about once a day, but I won't be mad if something gets in the way, just try to give prior notice if you are going somewhere.

I'm game.

From my experience, I'd say that gestalt will be up to it if you have people who are buidling for synergy rather than diversity. Gestalt can go either way. You'll need to pick people with that inclination. Also you'll need to grant the mythic companion feat so people are counted as mythic without having the explicit abilities. Otherwise there are sharp penalties being normal against a lot of mythic abilities.

I ran a module with gestalt vs. mythic and I didn't do enough to pump up my mythic conversions (the module was not mythic) so they steamrolled the critters.

You will probably need to pump up WotR given the quality of twinks around here.

I forgot to mention that in my original post. Everyone is counted as mythic for the purpose of mythic crap that automatically kills normal people.

Oops, I used the wrong alias. :)

drbuzzard wrote:
Normally spell effects only get bonuses per each if they actually roll to hit. If it was something like magic missile, probably not. For example, the evoker specialist ability which boosts damage only does it once per spell (otherwise magic missile would get out of hand).

I will go with this.

@gm Sam: I have a character that would need to be edited, he's from in the company of angels. So it's an angel monster class that I would love to Mix with cleric or paladin if you'd allow me to.

Can you post a link to this content?

Not to be a downer, but did you get GM approval for the 3pp thing?

Also, speaking of DM approval, @GM Sam, how do you rule that Smite Evil interacts with stuff?

Smite Evil wrote:
Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses.

Soo... Is that restricted to damage rolls from weapon attacks? What about spells that give multiple damage rolls, like Magic Missile?

I think it's pretty clear that each damage roll from the paladin deals smite damage individually, no matter where they come from, but YMMV.

This is kind of relevant to my nascent plans of a Sorcerer//Paladin

I don't know how that works. See if there is anything in the FAQ. I would normally rule yes, but I think that it could get way out of hand at mid to late levels. I will go with the official ruling if there is one though.

So since the characters wouldn't become Gestalt until they would normally become Mythic at about 6th level, would they automatically gain 6 levels of the new class, possibly recalculating hp and saves if the hit dice and save progression is better? Or will the new class be 5 levels behind the old class?

You would automatically gain the 6 levels. I hope it isn't too much of a hassle, but the first book of the AP would be way too easy if you started out as gestalt.

Hi Sam! Nice idea! It'll be tough to adjust some enemies, though. Aren't many of them mythic?

Are background skills in effect? What about drawbacks?

If I understood correctly, our submissions should be that of a single class, normal, which later on will become a gestalt?

I'm considering a Bloodrager, later getting Kineticist on his other side, probably. :)

Thanks

I will not be adjusting the enemies too much, since gestalt characters can be absurdly powerful if built properly.

Backround skills are fine, and you can have 1 drawback, as long as you roleplay it a little.

You did understand correctly. I decided to do it that way, because the idea is to have gestalt take the place of mythic as the 'special power' that makes the campaign possible for anyone not powergamed beyond belief.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Okay, so I just had a really cool idea. I wanted to run a non-mythic Wrath of the Righteous, and I was trying to figure out a way to make it possible without mythic power, and then I hit upon the gestalt idea.

For those unfamiliar with gestalt rules, here are the basics.

Gestalt Rules:

A gestalt character is basically a character with the class abilities of 2 or more classes. As you level up, you gain the class features of both, except where they overlap. For example, a gestalt sorcerer/barbarian would have d12 HD, full BAB progression, a bloodline, rage, and spells.

In my game, you will start out as normal characters until the moment when you would normally gain mythic power. Then, you gain you full gestalt abilities.

I have never ran a gestalt game before, so I am not entirely sure if this will be too easy or too hard. I expect it depends on how well built the party is.

Character Creation:

- 25 point buy
- Normal starting wealth
- Everything from Paizo is allowed, but 3rd part content requires my approval.
- Several player races are banned, as well as a handful of other things. Most of them are obscure munchkiny abominations that should never have been printed in the first place.

Banned List:

Races:
Trox, Kasatha, Lashunta. Reason: Trox allows someone to temporarily get 30+ Strength at first level, Kasatha can potentially wield up to 4 weapons at once, and Lashunta has a variety of factors making it stronger than other options, especially for casters.

Feats:
Primal Ancestry, Realistic Likeness. Reason: Primal Ancestry gives temporary DR 5/cold iron with only a fluff prerequisite to hold you back, and Realistic Likeness allows a kitsune to turn into any human they have ever met.

Keep in mind that this is my first time running an online game (although I have GMed before in person), and that this game might not be perfect. That being said, have fun!
