I hope everybody had a great Christmas and has a fantastic new year! I think I've almost shaken this respiratory infection, assuming it doesn't start to get worse again now that the antibiotics are over.

I'm going to give it a few more days, just to be safe, before I fully dive back in, and I'll try to better keep you updated.

My memory sucks, but I think it was Mark (or maybe Owen?), that said on stream recently that at some point during the Starfinder roll-out, someone got the book early and was leaking information. However, they were only leaking parts and those parts looked terrible without knowing the other details, and there was a huge uproar of some kind.

Anyway, they could have asked him to stop to try to avoid something similar.

At the moment, Pathfinder 2 (which we will be supporting on launch day of August 1!) is the major focus

FG is definitely cool, but people play where their GM/players prefer. :)

For those who don't think it's impossible to recall false information, I point you towards the 'Mandela Effect'.

For example, I have a vivid memory of Dolly wearing huge braces in Moonraker. It didn't actually happen, so I obviously crit failed recalling knowledge. ;-)

I mean, an Oradin who worships one deity and is cursed by an opposed deity could be a pretty fun RP situation, if the GM is up for it.

I'm suddenly imagining a Paladin of Apsu who's been cursed by Dahak. Like something straight out of mythology, I love it.

And D&D forked off of a wargame.

Name: Torik
ABC: Goblin Warrior (unless there is a bandit background) Redeemer Champion of Apsu
Catchphrase: "Dahak's coming, that's too much fire!"
Weapon of Choice: Dogslicer

One of my 1e characters is Half-orc Redeemer Paladin of Apsu, who has tried a few times to convert goblins away from evil to help build the Army of Light for the 'final battle,' which he thinks is imminent. I thought it would be funny to imagine if at one off-camera point between editions that he succeeds. :-)

Wow,. Guessing up to level 6, maybe even 8 at that length?

I don't know. From watching Oblivion Oath, it seems exploration mode — despite the name — is just the same as PF1 between encounters, just with a new name and some new rules of what/when to roll for some specific actions.

Perhaps a random ancestry change, as in reincarnation? (But, restored when the curse is removed.)

Some very cool ideas for that kind of character. And I'm seeing just how flexible PF2 is. :)

PF1 I used Kensai Magus + 3pp (SoM/SoP), so like I said I wouldn't have been surprised if it was difficult/impossible. The fact that is possible in multiple ways makes me even more excited for PF2, even though I plan to continue playing the PF1 version of this particular character for quite some time. :-)

They roll over between session on the stream (and they didn't in the playtest), but this calls out getting one at the beginning of a session (which I don't recall happening in the stream).

On stream they also come from viewers, might be handled differently because of it.

druids are divine casters in Golarion that specifically worship a philosophy instead of a "specific entity" as the first poster asked about and they'd have to change something is that isn't so in PF2: it's why I posted, because it wasn't about clerics specifically.

Aren't druids Primal casters now, not Divine?

It won't work in PFS, but I don't see why point buy couldn't be an option at your table. I've only made up of a couple of characters in the playtest, just fooling around, (my group is too invested in our current AP to do it so never got a chance to play it), but the arrays don't look that different except right now it's all even numbers. The dice rolling option is still there, so I really don't see how point buy would hurt the math any more than that.

It's just a new default option that's easier for more people. It also ties stats into the character background, which for me I really like.

This is looking cool.

I am very glad that goblins have been made a core race. It's not the in-character racism that bothers me, however. (Though, the idea that everybody, everywhere, no matter what would be irrationally compelled to kill a goblin character on sight and chase adventuring parties out of town seems way too over the top.)

No, it's the out-of-character stuff that bothers me. Because those who say that all goblins (or drow, or orcs, or whatever else) have to be evil (or one-of-a-kind rarities) are saying that the stereotypes are an all-encompassing reality. Though this is about fictional characters, this thought process never leads to a good place.

At the very least, you're limiting yourself as a storyteller. Because, if you resist stereotyping real people, but let yourself stereotype these characters, you're basically saying they are one-dimensional characters who are little more than robots. Doing this is cutting yourself off from so many potential story threads. They don't even have to be big ones, just a bit of variety and individual personality in enemies can go a long way.

Worse, though rarer, I've seen players who believe real people fall into stereotypes, as well. I've actually had people argue with me saying 'All drow are evil just like all...' <racist stereotype cut because I refuse to dictate it>.

I'm cool with goblins having an evil culture, I'm just happy there's more room for interesting characters that break the mould. Because there should, by the nature of them being sapient beings, be many of them.

I have always believed this, and it's the reason it took me until late last year to get into Pathfinder heavily. I didn't like the stereotypes in Dungeons & Dragons, and an initial peek into Pathfinder seemed to have the same problem. I still played it, but more for the tactical side of things than the story. As a result, I hadn't bought a lot of books or really invested in it. However, when I found the Redeemer archetype on the SRD late last year I realized that this world is far more interesting than I gave it credit for. (Once I gave it a chance, as well, this was evident in so much more than that as well.)

I may never play a goblin, but the idea that the game doesn't treat them as a homogenous whole makes me happy.

Jason sighs, Well, that was kind of pointless.

He checks the time, and then opens his computer and, activating his various security precautions, logs on the chat room with the Virtual Adepts.

"Wht a weird day! checked out where my dad died last night. (Yes, i no i was stupid.) Creepy! No way a gang lived there. Looked more like a bunch of regular kids. So who killed ma dad? Weird room in da basement, 2. Police came and got me in da mornin. Thought i was toast, but some woman comes up and tells them 2 let me go. And they do! No questions asked!"

Yeah, my character may not be liking this too much but as a player I think this is fantastic. :-)

This is mostly guesswork, and I'm willing to change relationships as needed for whoever I'm grouped with, if I get selected. :-)

Avienus:
“He is so cool! He’s really, really, really strong, but he isn’t a bully at all! He actually kind of stands up for us. He’s always practising fighting, too. Well, that gets kind of boring. I kinda wish he wanted to play more. But it means he’s really good at it!”

Andi:
”She’s my best friend, and my sister. Isn’t anybody more fun than her and Licorice. She’s brave, too. She isn’t even scared to go out in the forest. I wish I was brave enough to go with her.”

Vorin is afraid of the forest because he subconsciously believes his parents, whoever they were, abandoned him because he looked weird. His worst fear is of finding his real parents in the forest, and finding out he’s right. (Of course, he’s not. It’s much worse, but I’m guessing that won’t come up.) Not that he really understands all this. All he's consciously aware of is that the forest makes him nervous. That’s not to say that he won’t go into the forest if the story takes us there - that would be annoying more than dramatic - just that he’ll be nervous doing so.

Mindora:
”She’s Avienus’ friend. She’s nice, and she sings really good. I don’t know how she reads so much, I’d feel like things are crawling on me if I sat still that long. But I guess she’s, like, almost a grown-up.”

Empheria:
”I’m scared she’ll set me on fire sometimes, but other than that she’s cool. We don’t play much, but I think that’s just because I don’t like fire as much as she does. But I like her other magic!”

Aurora:
”I don’t know, she’s older and we don’t really talk much. And she’s lucky. She got adopted.”

Though Vorin will put up an act for Andi, he really wants to be adopted into a family. (Of course, he wants Andi to come with him.)

Isaac:
”Isaac is really cool! He gets in even more trouble than me, and he never even gets hurt! He’s weird like me, but kind of backwards. My skin is weirdly dark, his is weirdly white. I think he must get cold a lot, because he’s always wearing lots of clothes.”

Ashling:
”I don’t know her very good, she’s older too. But she’s like me, always doing things the grown-ups call ‘reckless’, whatever that means.”

Trace:
”He’s older, so we don’t play much, but I like him! His skin is a strange colour too, and he does magic like me. Except he likes fire, too. I guess that’s why he’s Empheria’s friend.”

Meralis:
”I like her. She can’t see, but she doesn’t let that stop her. I don’t know her very good, though. She hardly ever came outside, before.”

Quiin:
”Who’s that? Really, there’s someone new in town? I’ll go meet him! Wait, where does he live?”

Álmos:
”I don’t know much about him, he does a lot of chores at the Inn, but I heard he’s got a really weird and cool best friend.”

Talsin:
”He’s from the orphanage with us. He’s fun, and just as weird as me and Andi. Some people think he’s scary, or crazy, but I don’t. He just sometimes talks funny. He can’t help it.”

Faroris looks to Fenri in confusion when she says she placed the bet. "I had the money he gave us, and I used it to place the bet. Did you use your own money to place another bet?"

He turned back to the others and nods in agreement with Sasha before adding to Dwalar, "I didn't know about the riders, that's even more interesting. The riders, then, are probably the ones drugging or poisoning the animals. It might even be the only way to get someone into position to do that."

Fenri's idea of what's going on has him staring at her in some disbelief.

But it had Faroris' player laughing loudly. :-)
