1) Off-Tank/HP Healer - I have 2 things I do well: life link lets me freely donate HP to other characters and my high AC and power attack make me able to fight on the front lines of combat. With that and Selective Channel, I can keep my allies standing for a long time. My current advancement plan follows: I plan to pick up Mythic Domain if/when I reach second tier so that I can heal more people at once. I will take the rest of my levels in Paladin, picking up Extra Revelation in order to get a second channel energy pool from the Oracle side. An increase in defense would be useful to further specialize my character, but an increase in damage would also be nice to round out one of my weaknesses. As far as specifics, natural armor would be nice, as would additional uses of Smite Evil.

2) I have the fire form, but I'm not exactly sure what it does.

3) I would like a potion of Delay Poison and masterwork manacles with a superior lock. The potion is useful to have around in case we run into any poisons, while the manacles are useful if I take a prisoner.

4) Abstain

Are we still in rounds or are we now out of combat?

Flame approaches the old man, cancels his life link with Hymn, and establishes a new life link with the old man for 18 seconds.

First round: Life Link transfers 5 HP from Flame to the old man. Flame channels positive energy for 1d6 ⇒ 5 points of healing, excluding the fallen giants using Selective Channeling.

Second round: Life Link transfers 5 HP from Flame to the old man. Flame channels positive energy for 1d6 ⇒ 6 points of healing, excluding the fallen giants using Selective Channeling.

Third round: Life Link transfers 5 HP from Flame to the old man. Flame channels positive energy for 1d6 ⇒ 1 points of healing, excluding the fallen giants using Selective Channeling. Flame then cancels his Life Link.

"I hope that helps. If you need more healing, feel free to ask me or Donovan. As for why we came to help, I can only say that I have a bit of a problem with hill giants who cause trouble, and these ones seemed to be being a problem."

All told, Flame will have lost 4 HP, the old man will have gained 27 HP, and other hurt creatures nearby will have gained 12 HP (except for the giants who Flame excluded with Selective Channeling.

"Umm, it seems Serra has already jumped. I'll cast a spell to distract the giants and give her some cover. Blessed Dawnflower, grant your servant the power of your purifying flames!" A pillar of fire like a second sun rises up in the encampment and spreads out for 20 feet in all directions and 40 ft high. Thick smoke obscures the area, but anybody able to see through smoke would be able to see that mundane items were unaffected by the flames and the camp remains intact.

All evil creatures in the area take 5d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4, 4, 3) = 19 holy damage. All neutral characters take that damage as nonlethal damage and all good creatures are healed for that amount.

At that moment, Flame hears the signal. He quickly casts a spell on Hymn (protection from evil), and the two jump out of the cargo hold.
"Hymn, see if you can steer me right on top of one of those brutes. Preferably one not in the smoke."

Well, I was going to try to get a little bit of information from you, but since you weren't there at the time, we skipped ahead to our arrival at the rendezvous point the next day. There we found a small camp being trashed by hill giants and decided to open fire with the ship's guns and then possibly drop in. I'm not sure how many hill giants there are; it could be a very hard fight.

"Alright. I will be ready to heal you if you need it." Flame opens up a life link with Hymn. At the beginning of Flame's turn, if Hymn is hurt, 5 points of damage transfers from Hymn to Flame. "On your signal, I will cast Protection from Evil on you and we go down."

All large weapons are required to be stored in the armory while on board. In the unlikely event of a call to arms, you will be able to retrieve them like I did when your beacon was first spotted. I have permission to carry my sword on the ship, but that is a whole different story. Flame continues to wait by the loading ramp for a signal. He heads over to the window and looks out towards the sunrise. He begins to describe the colors of the dawn to Mystmorning. He looks down on one large building in particular where the rays of the rising sun shine through the gold-tinted stained-glass windows on the third floor and out the other side, casting the expansive lawn below in a golden hue and causing the water in the fountain to glitter like coins being thrown into the air. Flame's eyes are drawn back up to the roof, below a large dome covered in gold leaf with a solid gold statue of a key at the top. There stand several men, all armed. As far as Aref, I might have approached him at some point to see if he knew anything about the insignia from the dream. Of course, he probably would not have because that would have been over 5 years ago, before the Crimson Knights were founded.

Suddenly a light, feminine voice speaks up in fluent Taldane.

"What exactly constitutes a large weapon? If it's fine with you, Keeya, I would prefer to stay near Flame so that we could continue to greet the sunrise together."

Flame slowly pulls his scimitar, still sheathed, from his belt and places it on the table. "Everybody, allow me to introduce you to Mystmorning, one of the most sacred servants of my goddess. She is both a sword and a celestial unicorn. If it is acceptable, I would like to keep her with me. DC 12 Sense Motive or Profession (Lawyer):
Flame is purposely phrasing his oath so that if Keeya is unable to act as Sky-Captain, whoever the acting Sky-Captain is can order him to fight in defense of the ship if need be. However, in doing so, he accidentally phrases it so that it will apply on any voyage on board this vessel, regardless of who the Sky-Captain is. That initial dream was the reason I first set out from Sothis to Absalom on your father's skyship, Captain. By the way, you may all simply call me Flame." He takes a sip of wine. "It is as you say. My letter is from this Delman person. I have not done the blood offering, but Serra assures me that it is safe, as she seems to have a letter asking the same of her. I intend to proceed with it when it is next convenient."

I originally envisioned that Ollysta Zadrian herself (leader of the Silver Crusade, Paladin 10) would be leading the army, but when Serra wrote into her background that I was leading it, I just rolled with it. I justify it because the government of Taldor would know Ollysta was a Paladin of Sarenrae (they outlawed her worship after incidents with the Cult of the Dawnflower), but they would never have heard of me. In general, I just say yes and add on to whatever the other players have in their background, whether that means ending up in command of an army or having to add a whole new city to the map of Golarion.

Flame's Thoughts:
Keeya Swift? She was a newborn baby the last time we met. My how time flies! I see she has a dagger as well. That's why she's headed in the same direction as us. Oops. It seems I spent too long thinking, and now Serra has to speak for me so things don't get awkward.

Standing before you is a tiefling with light red skin and jet black hair that comes just below his helmet. Within his helmet, his eyes glow like two small fires. He seems a little bit lost in thought. Snapping out of it, he turns to Serra and says in deep, accented Taldane, "Former leader now."

"Well met, Captain. I am General Flame. I commanded the Army of Hope during the battle of New Actuss, but have just transferred command to the Eagle Knight you just saw leave. Ser - I mean now - General Leandros informed us that your father believed we were headed in the same direction. It seems he was correct." Flame gestures toward the mithril dagger on his own belt. "We would be honored to travel with you to the rendezvous point for the Crimson Knights. As for the new general and his guards, they have business to attend to, leading the army home and all that, so it will just be the two of us. Permission to come aboard?"

"I believe that the SkyClan Swift owes us a favor. I sent a delegation led by Ser Leandros of the Eagle Knights to request an audience with one of their captains."

At that point, a soldier barges into the tent. "Sir, Milady. The delegation was sent to hurry after the Silver Wind, a skyship captained by Sky Captain Keeya Swift. The Swift family seem to have guessed your destination before we even got a chance to tell them and believes that she too is headed there. If you hurry, you should catch them."

At the Landing

The airship continues to descend.

A Tiefling man in full plate hobbles up to the group, obviously favoring his left leg. He has red skin and flowing black hair. At his side is a very fine scimitar, a warhammer made of cold iron, and the tell-tale mithril dagger.

Everybody present salutes the Tiefling who salutes them back. He says a few words to the Andoran who looks surprised. Everybody salutes the Andoran who starts returning to camp in a hurry along with the three guards.

You see a human soldier, probably Andoran in origin, in full plate, carrying the banner of the Army of Hope, a heavily altered symbol of the Silver Crusade (because open worship of Sarenrae is still officially illegal in Taldor). Flanking him is a small honor-guard of three human soldiers in chain shirt, carrying longspears. As the air guns begin to rotate, the 3 guards tense up, but the standard bearer seems perfectly calm.

I (and probably Serra) definitely plan to board one of the sky ships after I wrap up my business outside New Actuss (appointing a new general and lieutenant for the Army of Hope). Why not have it be the Silver Moon?

Finding the Box:
Flame exited the encampment as silently as a man in full plate can be. Stealth: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (3) - 5 = -2 It was a little bit loud. By the time he made it out of the camp, a small number of bodyguards were following him. He slowly followed the path into the mountains that he had seen in his dream that night. Wedged between the rocks was an emblem he had only seen in two dreams: that night's and the one 46 years ago that had started him on his journey.

Without giving any thought to the reactions of the bodyguards, Flame concentrated and thought back to the time he had been wounded by the hill giant's boulder. With a quick prayer to his goddess, Flame transformed himself into a literal flame. He swiftly glided through the rocks and grabbed the box, then glided back out.

The guards quickly composed themselves as Flame returned to his usual tiefling form and opened the box. He quickly skimmed over the message, then read it again because Taldane was not his strongest language. Flame then hobbled back into the encampment as fast as his bad leg would carry him while wearing full plate. Which was about a normal walking speed for his lightly armored guards.

Flame turned to one of his guards. "Inform Serra to meet me in my tent as soon as she is ready." Flame returned to his tent and waited. Several minutes later, Serra arrived.

Flame Summons Serra to his Tent:
"Serra, I have been called away on what I believe will be a very important mission. I am sorry this is so sudden, but I will be leaving you in charge of the - oh."

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Flame notices the tell-tale gleam of mithril from a dagger hanging on Serra's belt, a dagger that he had never seen before. Then his eyes are drawn to the blood-red papyrus scroll in her hands. Flame smiles.

"Crimson Knights?" Without waiting for a response: "It seems we will need to find two capable replacements. Have you offered them your blood yet?"

Sure. I'm always happy to help out a fellow Paladin or Oracle and could certainly use an assistant as smart and knowledgeable as yourself. I was planning to find the order of the Crimson Knights of the Black Blade at the party in the aftermath of the battle and petition to join them then, but you are welcome to come along.

Mythic stuff has been added to my character at Hierophant Tier 1, since I came up with a mythic origin in the second part of my backstory.

Backstory Part 1:
Flame Demonspawn knew that he was different from the other children at the temple from a young age. It may have been the looks that the priests gave him every day, ranging from evaluating to venomous. It may have been the strange names he was called, or the fact that he was always confined to the temple grounds. Then again, it might have been the forked tail and the fact that he was both unusually hot to the touch and had no reflection. As you might have guessed, Flame Demonspawn was a Tiefling.

Flame was raised in the temple of Sarenrae in the Osirioni capital of Sothis. There he was taught from a young age the tenets of his religion and trained in the use of the scimitar. As he matured, Flame became one of the most promising young swordsmen at the temple.

Soon it was time for Flame's swordsmanship to be put to the test. The knights at the temple had captured some cultists of Rovagug. The cultists were all offered the chance to repent for their crimes of human sacrifice and other evils. Most chose to repent and be sent to the local prison. However, a few were defiant. Flame was called upon to grant the swift execution of one such criminal. Flame beheaded the evil man in one stroke with his scimitar and was officially a knight of the church.

With his knighthood came a disturbing revelation. Flame had been born to human worshipers of Rovagug who had somehow promised his soul to the lower planes before his birth. The day he was born, the knights of the temple had raided the cultists' secret shrine and killed Flame's parents. Flame had been taken in by the temple, but watched closely and with much distrust because of his origins. Even more disturbing, the man who Flame had just executed had been his older brother.

Flame prayed to Sarenrae for the chance to return his soul from the clutches of the Abyss. The next night he dreamed that he was watching himself in battle against a hoard of demons with an insignia on his shield which he had never seen before. He dreamed of building a great city in the middle of the demon hoards and of raising a huge temple of Sarenrae in the middle of the city.

The next day, he told the head priest of his dreams. The head priest told him to go out into the world and search for the insignia from his dream. He called in a favor and booked Flame on the Swift Family Sky-Ship bound for Absalom. The priest told flame that if anybody knew about the insignia from his dream, it would be the Pathfinder Society. After 20 years in the temple, Flame was finally out to see the world.

Backstory Part 2:
The journey was pretty uneventful. The people on the airship were a lot friendlier toward Flame than the people at the temple had been, but they all treated him like a child. Sure, Flame was shorter than most of them, but he was also used to being considered an adult by the humans at the temple. Being a little bit shy though, Flame never once complained.

About half way through the journey, the captain's wife gave birth to a daughter. When Flame came to pay his respects to this Keeya, he felt a strange sense of deja vu. He quickly shook it off and went about his business.

A few days later, Flame arrived in Absalom. He bid thanks to the captain and crew, and then sought out the Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society. However, he was to be disappointed. The venture-captain in charge there did not recognize the insignia from Flame's dream. When Flame asked if he could join the society to have the chance to look for the insignia, the venture-captain laughed at him and asked him his age. Flame honestly replied that he was 20 years old. The venture-captain informed Flame that tieflings did not reach adulthood until they were at least 60 and that until then, Flame ought to put aside his dreams of adventure. Flame angrily turned and walked out.

Flame wandered the streets of Absalom blindly until he found himself in front of a large church. On the streets outside, he heard a preacher preaching in Kellish from the Birth of Light and Truth. He took that as a sign and entered the Temple of the Shining Star. There he knealt in front of the altar and prayed to his goddess. When he finished praying, one of the priests approached him.

Flame asked the priest if he could stay at the temple and help out, mentioning that he was officially a knight in the church in Sothis. The priest agreed, writing a letter to Sothis to verify the story and set Flame to the task of cleaning the altars. When the return letter came, stating that Flame was a prodigy of swordsmanship, the priests decided to test Flame's skill with the scimitar. After Flame was able to go toe to toe with most of the knights in the temple, Flame was squired to the head knight and given the additional job of helping him train upcoming paladins.

Over the next forty years, Flame grew slowly, as did his skill with the blade. Church leaders came and went, and Flame made friends with many students. One such student was Ollysta Zadrian, a young and zealous human woman. He taught her how to wield the scimitar, before she joined the Pathfinder Society, hoping to spread the faith through the world. They continued to swap stories whenever she returned to Absalom. Eventually, Ollysta grew disillusioned with the politics and infighting within the Pathfinders and retired from their organization. She returned to the Temple of the Shining Star and founded the Silver Crusade to help use the Pathfinder Society to do good things in the world.

Flame was one of the first people to join the Silver Crusade when he turned 60. He quickly rose through the ranks, helping those in need and smiting evildoers. However, eventually his adventures went terribly wrong. Flame had been sent out to lead a group of knights to slay a tribe of ogres that had sacked an Andoran village. His group was ambushed by the ogre tribe on their way there. The leader of the ogres, a nasty hill giant, threw a boulder at the group. Flame reacted in time to push a fellow knight out of the way of the boulder, but the boulder instead landed on Flame's right leg, completely shattering the bone. The knights tried to lift the rock, but Flame ordered them to complete their mission and kill the giant and the ogres first. For his selfless act, Sarenrae granted Flame the ability to enter the form of a holy fire. Flame flew through the rock. Flame flew through his cohorts, healing them and bolstering their spirits, and Flame flew trough the ogres, burning them. He called down a storm of purifying flame that burned the ogres to ashes while healing his knights. The ambush turned into a complete rout.

Exhausted, Flame slept for three days while his spirit left his body. During the first day, he looked down on his body and knew that his leg would never fully recover. However, he also knew that he would gain great powers to make up for it. During the second day, a golden-haired dog appeared and led him to a city in Nirvana named High Ninshabur where there was eternal sunlight. The dog told Flame that he would be a living champion of Sarenrae and in Flame's hands appeared Mystmorning, an intelligent scimitar, inlaid with rose gold markings and set with two grey gems on the pommel.

On the thrid day, Flame was guided by the dog to a far away city named New Actuss. There he was shown a vast demon hoard massing to besiege the city. Flame knew he needed to help relieve the siege. When he awoke, his scimitar was replaced with Mystmorning, and Flame knew what he had to do. He led his men back to Absalom as fast as they could get there. Then he brought his visions to the attention of his friend, Ollysta. Ollysta quickly called in a few favors from her contacts within the Pathfinder Society and organized a group called the Army of Hope. This army set sail from Absalom, through the Inner Sea, up the Sellen River in Taldor. From there, they joined with the Taldan army and marched to the World's End Mountains to relieve New Actuss.

Many demons fell to Flame's sword on that day. Many more fled back to the hills and mountains. New Actuss was saved.

Personality:
Perfectionist: Flame does not accept failures on his part and strives to be the best he can be. He also looks down on those who do not set as high standards for themselves.
Quick to Anger: Flame's demonic blood makes him get angry easily, but he tries to channel that anger against injustices he sees in the world around him.
Quiet and Cautious: Being raised in a temple surrounded by people who expected him to turn evil at the drop of a hat, Flame has learned to keep most things to himself and to carefully think before he says anything.
Mild Introvert: Being different from everybody else at a young age taught Flame to find comfort in alone time.

Sarenrae's Paladin Code::

1. I will protect my allies with my life. They are my light and my strength, as I am their light and their strength. We rise together.
2. I will seek out and destroy the spawn of the Rough Beast (Rovagug). If I cannot defeat them, I will give my life trying. If my life would be wasted in the attempt, I will find allies. If any fall because of my inaction, their deaths lie upon my soul, and I will atone for each.
3. I am fair to others. I expect nothing for myself but that which I need to survive.
4. The best battle is a battle I win. If I die, I can no longer fight. I will fight fairly when the fight is fair, and I will strike quickly and without mercy when it is not.
5. I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by the sword.
6. I will not abide evil, and will combat it with steel when words are not enough. I do not flinch from my faith, and do not fear embarrassment. My soul cannot be bought for all the stars in the sky.
7. I will show the less fortunate the light of the Dawnflower. I will live my life as her mortal blade, shining with the light of truth.
8. Each day is another step toward perfection. I will not turn back into the dark.
