GM Wolf |

Now at Level 7, Xenia points out a chest in one of the corners, a wooden thing with a lock on the outside. It is strange that it has not aged like everything else in this tower, there is very little dust on it at that. She also points out a secret door on the Northern wall and a few loose stones near it.

![]() |

I am hoping that one of our magic types will use detect magic to determine whether there is anything magic protecting the chest.
Once she receives clearance from one of the casters in the party, Xenia will carefully approach the chest and search it for traps. If none are found, she will attempt to open it.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 10 + 2 = 26 <-- trapfinding +2
Disable Device: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Serra the Blessed |

Serra examines the chest and area surrounding it using detect magic at Xenia's request before allowing her to work on the chest's locking mechanism.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28
Perception to spot anything odd, spellcraft if anything magic needs to be identified

Hymn |

Looking over the item Hymn takes time to see if he can figure out the magic of the flame.
Spellcraft Check:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
After looking over the flame for a few minutes, he still feels perplexed by what it is. Hymn decides to gently grab the flame.

GM Wolf |

The flames comes away in Hymns hand though as you hold it, it seems to be alive. The tip closest to your head twists into your face as the body of the flame seems to twist in your grasp as if the thing is a snake and flame all at the same time. After watching you for several moments it returns to the three foot length of flame.

Serra the Blessed |

Serra examines the box closely and seems to focus on the lock for a minute. "Xenia, it appears that there is a strong conjuration effect on the lock of that box. I would be careful when handling it."

![]() |

Xenia looks to the others:
I would stand outside of the room. Lets see what this is.
Really bad DD roll above. If more are needed, here they are.
DD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
DD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
DD: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Donovan Dyne |

"I can attempt to suppress whatever enchantment it holds while you work," Donovan offers.
Would casting Dispel Magic on the lock possibly help Xenia? Disable the enchantment for a bit or get rid of it entirely?

GM Wolf |

Will save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Xenia it seems that you disable the magical ward and have trouble with the lock. The lock seems to be of magnificent make and if you fail by 5 or more again you will jar the lock with your tool. DC 30

Serra the Blessed |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Serra is adjacent to the chest and Xenia
Serra watches as Xenia continues to work on the lock. "I wonder what they were keeping up here... Perhaps this chest belongs to the Ivory Ravens as well?"

Hymn |

Hymn looks at the flame pondering what it could possibly be.
After thinking it over for a short period of time, hymn will try to find the priest and see if he knows what it is.
HHymn returns to the inside of tower carrying the snake/flame.

![]() |

Xenia looks to the others:
Should I keep working on this? I have never seen this fancy a lock. Even on prized slaves the locks were usually easier. I might jam it if I keep missing the pins.

Serra the Blessed |

"If you think you might jam it we should just leave it be for now. We could always stow it in the skiff and give it another shot later. We should probably check quickly behind the secret door and then head up to the skiff. I imagine Keeya has it ready to go by now."

![]() |

Xenia nods:
Sounds fair. The chest appears to have been here a while, although it is unnaturally clean, so leaving it to be opened later should not be a problem.
With that, Xenia gets up and moves over the listen at, and then check the secret door for any traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 <- +2 more to find traps
Whelp, with guidance that roll would have gotten the chest opened. Oh well.

Zanthias, Lord of Lightning |

He walks around the room not near any of them his gauntlet has changed back into a sword. He skulks around the room a bit moody kicking random debris. Not near the chest or entrance.

GM Wolf |

Xenia you don't find any traps but also no obvious signs of how to open the door. You remember there were several loose stones around the door and point out the four different stones. Each stone has a small symbol on it, a triangle, a circle, a cube, and a crescent moon.
chest is a mimic and can't do a thing until the lock is opened. The lock is actually a focus for a 'secret chest' spell. If the right word is not spoken then it attacks.
Perception DC 28:
The chest seems to be moving just a bit, several eyes appear very slightly in the wood and teeth can barely be seen from a small gap where the lid and the main part of the chest meet.
Xenia failed her Will save and will see just a chest when the lock opens, as the mimic attacks.
at the secret door
3 loose rocks, only one right 'lever'
Level 6, you find a doorway that is partially obstructed by debris. At a closer look it looks like chairs and tables were once piled up against the door. Now just the wooden remnants of those objects remain in a large pile with much of it stacked against the wall and door.
Level 7, a chest is found hidden in one of the corners, a wooden thing with a lock on the outside. It is strange that it has not aged like everything else in this tower, there is very little dust on it at that. A secret door looks to be on the Northern wall, you find a few loose stones near it.

Hymn |

Hymn gives a almost dumbfounded look to the old man. After gathering himself, Hymn nods at the old man, " Greeting I am Hymn. I see from your work that you are a smith? I was wondering if you could tell me if you know anything about this flame? I found it outside..."

Bearik |

He casts a cantrip and analyzes the flame in Hymn's hand. "Well it seems to be a... well... honestly it looks more like an idea. Whoever chooses to wield it could form it into an item easily enough through will power. One of the many fire oriented individuals in your group could likely wield it, but once it has been inprinted and connected to one, it would take a strong force and magic to give it to another. Then again I could be wrong."

Hymn |

Hymn gives a puzzled look at the old man. Without skipping a beat Hymn, now more curious than ever, says "I have seen many magical items and weapons.... on a rare chance a few artifacts. I have never heard of such a thing. It was a flame then snake then back to a flame. Do you know if it has a mind of its own? Or the intent of its will?"
Too overcome with excitement, Hymn just realized he was interrupting the old mans work. "I am sorry... I got so lost in trying to figure this out. I didnt realize I was interrupting your work. Can i offer assistance to aid for your time and the knowledge you gave? My strength and background may be of some help."

![]() |

Xenia carefully examines the door and then the area around it.
Strange. Seems that there are some types of stones, key stones of some sort, which are needed to open this door.
Perhaps we should search the other rooms to see what we can find. Maybe whatever opens this door is hidden on one of the other levels.

Serra the Blessed |

"Interesting... give me a moment. I'll see if I can recall anything about these symbols and the Ivory Ravens," she says to Xenia.
Serra looks the symbols on the stones over for a few moments and then closes her eyes, trying to recall if they have any connection to the group.
Focused Trance: 1d6 ⇒ 5 rounds
Knowledge(History): 1d20 + 8 + 20 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 20 = 47

GM Wolf |

Does anyone want to interact with the stones pointed out, cast any spells, move down to the other level, etc.?

![]() |

Assuming that Xenia can hear through the door.
Calling back through the door.
Bring them out. Are there only three? There are four slots here, I assume we need to find four stones.

Sky Captain Keeya Swift |

taking 20 to search and if they come lose
She picks the three up then looks for a 4th. if she finds it she takes it with her if not, she takes the three. Using wind form once more she moves to the other side of the door and the other.
She hands the stones to Xenia.
"Its just a dark, small empty space, this is all I could find, but Here you are"

Serra the Blessed |

"It definitely seems like this was a puzzle left by them." she says as she comes out of her trance. "They had penchant for this sort of thing."
When Keeya calls out that she's found stones inside, Serra looks a bit confused. "It would be odd for the solution to the puzzle to be inside the room, and from her description, the shapes don't directly match. Perhaps those stones belong to another door somewhere in the tower? I get the feeling that there's something here they wanted to keep well hidden, we may want to search the other floors again for secret doors, although I'm not entirely sure if we should delay our departure to do so."
How urgent did the Captain's orders seem to Serra? If it was urgent then she'll be pushing harder to depart and investigate the puzzle later.

GM Wolf |

Three stones Keeya brings out with her. Looking really closely you can see each of them seems to have a symbol on them. A circle, a pentagram/star, and a cloud.
There are still four loose stones around the original door. No spots to put any stones yet, you will need to take out the loose stones first if you plan to put the other stones in their place.
Captain Vortani did not seem that urgent with getting them to the location. Though it did seem the sooner you get there then you can start getting the lay of the land.
Hymn is at the bottom level of the tower with Bearik.
Keeya, Serra, Flame, Zanthias, and Donovan are at level 7 inspecting the doorway.

Serra the Blessed |

So just to be really clear, there are 4 stones around the door and they are *in* spots designed to hold them, not really loose. Correct?

Sky Captain Keeya Swift |

Hands the stones to Serra
"there you go, just have to work out what that means now, I need to get the skiff sorted now, If you need me just call, but I think you can take it form here."
She heads on up to the skiff.
I'm stopping play in most of my games to deal with an illness in the family. Sorry about this but I have to deal with this."

Zanthias, Lord of Lightning |

"What about the glow coming from the spots in the walls now?" He points out as he comes closer.

Hymn |

Hymn bows to Bearik then states,"If you ever do need help, I would be glad to be of service. I have dabbled in blacksmithing a bit. Although, my skills are no where near yours. If you dont mind me asking is that a common dagger?"

Bearik |

"No this is not an ordinary dagger, one of my works I have done before. It takes the focus of the wielder and amplifies the damage done. Thus if you wielded it the elements would gather through it, allowing you to discharge the elements through it. One of my many masterworks." Bearik explains with a smile enjoying to tell you about his craft.

Hymn |

"One day I hope I am able to craft half as well as you do. It is an amazing thing." Hymn nods and bows. "I will take my leave to find the others. I will also try to see how this idea works. Is it of your design?"

Serra the Blessed |

The circle with a triangle inside it doesn't match any of the stones correct? From what I can tell we've got: Circle, Triangle, Crescent Moon, Cube, Circle (Inside Closet), Pentagram, Cloud. Also, the did the circle or triangle come from that slot that now has the circle w/ triangle symbol?
Serra eyes the stones for a moment, trying to decide what to do. On a whim, she places the stone marked with the circle from inside the closet into the slot with the glowing glyph.
