Backstory:

When did you first use your powers? I was first born, and I healed my mom. No kidding. Only person to walk out of a hospital the day she gave birth. After that, everyone just kinda assumed I was good luck, or something. Boy, were they wrong.

The first person I remember helping was this girl, Maria. She was cute, and we were friends. Six years old, in the first grade. We were playing on the playground, and she stopped by these flowers, violets. Well, she thought they were really cool, and remarked about how beautiful they were. I agreed, especially the purple. Turns out, they weren't violets, but sunflowers, and I was seeing the UV light. I didn't know that, of course, and after a few minutes we figured out we weren't seeing the same things. Well, I really wanted to show her, so I just, kinda, reached out, and touched her. Right there, on the forehead. Suddenly, she started screaming and jumping, and gave me a big hug- right before her eyes got really big, and she started crying, and ran to the teacher's.

I heard later that I accidently rewired her brain to see better, but at the cost of her hearing. She could see everything, but hear nothing. I still hate myself for that.

Who was the first person you accidently hurt with your powers?

Um, well, let's see- I once caused a babysitter to manifest scales on her hands and face (though those eventually faded away). Then there's Maria, of course. Oh, and I hurt my brother- apparently, he had powers, too, but I kinda took those away- not that I remember doing that. But the one that really hurts is my mom- she had these healing powers, same as me, kinda, but on a lesser scale. I manipulate DNA- she just worked on the tissue and bones- I well, I caused her to hurt people. I took her healing powers into overdrive, and suddenly people were growing all sorts of skin lesions where they didn't need- cancer. She healed them, and gave them cancer. She died, after saving them as best she could, by forcing herself away from me. That's why I wear gloves. So I don't hurt anyone else, like I did her.

Who, outside the team, helps you control your powers? My brother's really good- he's always been the most understanding about my powers, and the possibilities they entail. In fact, he's the one who's encouraged me to keep trying; he's convinced I can do some good in this world, despite the fact that I took his powers away. He volunteers down at the local hospital, where mom used to work, and he's coaxed me into helping some of the patients there, who were really dire. He's had me heal them. And it's worked. Of course, between school, EMT studies, and volunteering, there's not a lot of time to teach me- so when I heard that this kid, Kenneth, was going out at night, as a superhero team- well, I had to help, didn't? He could get hurt, and at least I might be there to help him if he does. So, there you go.

Why do you continue to use your powers? We'll start with fear. His powers are unstable- it's a Nova thing, right? Well, I knew from the start I wanted to make his powers to be life- altering, and that's the core of it. It's touch. He cannot touch anyone, anything, without gloves or some sort of material coating his skin- and human contact is important. Look at all the studies they've done on the importance of touch. Finn- he can't hug his Mom, or shake his Dad's hand, or interact with his friends on a level that most of us can. And let's not even get into dating; nigh- impossible. It's a fear, of fear of being afraid that, without learning to control his powers, he'll never get to live a normal life- that's what drives him, primarily. Now, he'd never admit that to himself; if pressed, he'd definetly talk about the second reason- but that's his primary motivation, I think.

Secondly, I think it's a rush for him. He's a healer, and that makes him important (Well, I think he's a healer- it's not listed in the Nova flares- but it's biokinesis- he should be able to heal, I'd think- but let me know if he can only do that listed flares); or extending one's senses to hear from far away, or see things that couldn't before be seen- when it works and is under control, he's a hero. He's special, someone that can open up new worlds and new ways of thinking for people. Of course, when it works is the optimal word here- there's been too many times where he hurts or overloads someone on accident, causing pain- hence the dilemna he faces. He doesn't want to use his powers, but he can't not use them- how could he deny someone who needs healing, or deny someone the ability to see infared temporarily, or anything of the sort- it's too much to tell people they can't do something when he knows that they can, with help. So, that's why. It's the thrill, of being a hero, of opening new doors for people- that's why he uses his powers, despite the fear of hurting someone.

Why do you care about the team? Unanswered, as of yet.

Relationships:

You hang out all the time with Apex to blow off steam.
You once hurt Apex when you lost control of your powers.

Nova Flares:

Reality storm: You channel a destructive burst with your powers. Spend 1 burn to directly engage a threat using your powers, rolling + Freak instead of + Danger. If you do, you will cause unwanted collateral damage unless you spend another burn.
Boost: Spend 1 burn to supercharge a teammate’s efforts with your powers, giving them a +1 bonus to their roll as if you had spent Team from the pool.
Overcharge: You channel the full capacity of your incredible powers to overcome an obstacle, reshape your environment, or extend your senses. Spend 2 burn to take a 10+ when you unleash your powers.
Elemental awareness: Spend 1 burn and mark a condition to open your mind up to the world around you with your powers. You can ask any one question about the world around you, and the GM will answer honestly.
