Hello,

We recently had a player leave due to RL issues. We now have 1 open spot that needs filled to round out our 5 person party.

The party has only been playing for a month or so. Now is a good time to jump in if you're interested. All of the necessary class roles are filled, so new characters can feel free to create just about anything they want.

Please see our Obsidian Portal Wiki for character creation and posting guidelines. You can also read through the wiki to catch up with the campaign and get a feel for the setting. Also, here is the game thread and the discussion thread.

Because the campaign is just getting started, the new character will likely just get retconned into the place of the old character for simplicity's sake. You'll also be able to jump into the current battle right away!

As dusk falls upon the fetid city of Punjar, five unusual people gather at the Silent Maid tavern and flophouse. Finding the place is no pleasant matter as this particular tavern lies in Smoke, the most decrepit of all of Punjar's slums. The makeshift hovels and shanty towns which seem to spring up, come down, and switch places overnight make the task difficult unless you are familiar with Smoke's ruinous permanent structures.

All around you stone gargoyles glare at you from niches in old, decayed gothic buildings. They were once grand but are now nothing more than cheap, dangerous housing for the downtrodden and disreputable inhabitants of Smoke.

The Silent Maid itself, however, is well maintained both inside and outside. No beggars or addle-brained drug-addicts adorn its doorstep and upon entering the establishment you see why. Nearly all the patrons wear the infamous silver-inlaid leather armor of the Thieves Guild. Each one of you, upon entering, is immediately sized up and inspected by piercing eyes. Some of these eyes show signs of recognition while some show only suspicion. Behind the bar an elderly blind me serves drinks with surprising precision, occasionally chatting with several of the patrons. Behind the bar, nestled between several bottles of spirits, is a large mason jar filled nearly to the top with severed fingers of varying shapes in sizes. None of the other patrons ever give the jar a second glance. Aside from that it is like any other tavern, smokey and permeated with the smell of beer and booze.

As each of you enter, a slender, cloaked figure motions you over to the table in the northeast corner of the tavern. A closer look reveals the figure to me a male eladrin with a wiked knife scar running down his right cheek. He casually drinks from a mug at the table and eats slices from an apple which he carves off using a wicked and russet stained dagger.

"Sit," he says, "we have business to discuss."

Here is the order in which you arrived:

Dannad:

Spoiler:
You are likely the first to arrive and the eladrin spots you and motions you over. He says little past the short introduction, however, which he repeats for each party member until you are all assembled.

Kenneth:

Spoiler:
You enter and immediately spot the only halfing in the group sitting with the eladrin.

Daggobert:

Spoiler:
You are likely surprised to find Kenneth sitting there with the eladrin and an unknown halfing. He looks no worse than usual but perhaps a bit nervous seeing as you likely know him better than most.

Samael:

Spoiler:
You recognize none of the people present. While you may have visited Smoke on occasion it is not your usual place of operations. The table in the northeast corner is already starting to crowd and you see a human, a halfling, a dwarf, and the eladrin who motions you over.

Vandis:

Spoiler:
You are the last to arrive, though not by much. The eladrin motions you over to the table which is now full of an odd assortment of creatures including a human, a halfling, a dwarf, and something odd you've never seen before. He appears to be a man but his skin is almost blue and he bares strange markings and his eyes have no pupils.

At this point please describe your characters and make any reactions or introductions. Time to get this party started. :)

Greetings,

I am in a party of 10th level characters in the Ptolus campaign setting. I am currently plotting a way of trapping Lilth in an iron flask that I found in the previous adventure. Any of you familiar with the setting know that Lilth is quite a badass, sitting at level 26 with somewhere around a +20 will save.

What I'm looking for is a way of taking her out of the plot and putting her in the iron flask. The DC save against the flask, however, is a piddly 19, which even I could pass about 65% of the time. Kind of silly, since it has a % chance of holding several creatures that would likely never fail the save. To do this, I need to be able to lower her will save drastically in just a couple rounds.

As a 10th level party, we have access to up to 5th level spells and may soon get access to 6th level spells. We are very connected with various important Ptolus organizations (inverted pyramid, malketh, knights of the pail, etc.) and have a lot of money so resources are pretty abundant if we are convincing enough in our cause.

The only way I've thought of to do it is focus on overcoming her spell resistance (through the Assay Spell Resistance spell) and granting negative levels. I have the Enervation spell and figure that enough of those in a couple rounds, if we can survive, might do it if I get lucky.

Does anyone else know of any better tricks to pull this off at our current level? I know it's a long shot but I'm getting bored with the game and would like to attempt something really epic to spice things up a bit.

I've been lurking around the PBP board for awhile and decided I want to give it a go and try something new. My current interests have gone back to fantasy RPGs for the last several months and that is what I'd like to play.

I'm willing to play with nearly any system as long as someone is willing to show a newbie the ropes.

Thanks!

While I was DM'ing my Monday night game a player of mine stated that he wanted to shoot his hand crossbow from behind total cover (i.e., the enemies had no line of sight/effect to him). Technically the rules do not really cover this sort of thing so I let him do it and gave him a -2 to hit. I now think that a -5 would have been more appropriate but just wanted to move the game along.

Does this seem like a reasonable ruling? Perhaps an Athletics(Balance) check along with the penalty would have made more sense? Maybe enemies would be allowed to take a shot at him with a -5 penalty the following round if they liked?

How would the rest of you have ruled this?

Hello all,

I'm currently creating a sorcerer for a PFRPG/3.5 hybrid game. I'm not used to playing arcane casters and my wizard just died last game. DM through a ECL 12 at our party of seven lvl 5 characters. My 15HP wiz got taken out in the first round of combat by a 33dmg cone of cold.

Anyway, I'm trying to build a blaster/de-buffer. I know wizards are better at de-buff/battlefield control but the entire party just whined the whole time because I wasn't dealing damage. They just sort of blanked over every time I tried to explain how much more effective I was being by nauseating, tripping, and immobilizing all our enemies every round. Not to mention buffing with haste and enlarge person and saving everyone's @$$ with Benign Transposition.

Here is my current line-up for a 6th level sorcerer:

1st:
Burning Hands (bloodline)
Magic Missle
Grease
Ray of Enfeeblement
?????

2nd:
Scorching Burst (bloodline)
Ray of Stupidity (I think this is 2nd level, right?)
Wings of Cover

3rd:
??????

As you can see I've left some holes that I just haven't figured out what to fill with. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

I've been listening to these podcasts over and over again at work and I love them. They're HILARIOUS!

Does anyone know of any other funny DnD podcasts similar to this? It's great listening to people play like this. Although it does get me some interesting looks from co-workers when I start cracking up at my desk for no apparent reason. It doesn't matter whether they're 4E or not, I'm just looking for something to keep my entertained and awake during work.

Chow!
