Background:

Father Micul was making his late night sweep of the cloister, as he always did, especially after new students were accepted into the service of the Lord of all Glyphs and Images. It was at no surprise to him to see the dim light of a night candle come from the kitchen. The mostly young newcomers had to work through homesickness and sometimes anger from being brought away from their families and both didn’t let them sleep very well.

But this evening, to his surprise, it was none of the new priests sitting lonely on a chair, idly slicing an apple. It was one of their oldest acolytes and one of their wisest. Micul himself had found her more than twenty years ago on the doorsteps to the monastery. A half-elf baby wrapped in white silk with golden embroidery and a pendant around her neck: a single small scale of a golden dragon. She still wore it to that day and she still had those beautiful blue elven eyes that had mesmerized him the first time he looked into them.

He had named her Eiryn, after an old friend of him, an elf from Waterdeep. Her last name, Dirandul, was the one she chose for herself, the name of a wise woman out of some history book. She was an exemplary student and quickly became head of the senior acolytes. Eiryn had an enchanting smile and an adorable laugh, it made it easy for her to integrate, even though she always stood out due to her half-elven heritage. Still, it wasn’t that what was bringing her down and the old priest knew it.

“Your dreams again?” He asked her in his most gentle voice. Still, she winced in surprise and took a moment to recover.

“Yes Father,” she slowly began to speak. “Just the one. And now it is every night and it terrifies me more and more.”

“But why? You are doing the work of good here,” he reassured her. It wasn’t the first time she doubted her place here, but he knew today was different.

”I don’t know. It doesn’t seem to be enough in the eyes of the gods,” she said gloomily. “I think the dream is telling me this. More than ever before it reminds me: Go into the world and prove your devotion to the cause of good. Every night Micul. Every night.”

He stepped closer to her, hugged her against his belly as he had done when she was still a mere child. “Don’t be afraid. You will find your way Eiryn and you will prove to whatever god it is that is challenging you, that you are worthy.”

He could feel her tears slowly soaking into his cowl as she spoke silently: “Thank you, for everything.”

It was later that month when she took the vows of the Glyphscribes of Deneir and left the cloister and everyone she had known behind to follow her calling. A young cleric, a half-elf with bright blonde hair and a friendly smile on her face, ready to meet her destiny.

Secret, don't read!:

You have a secret. You were once a Gold Dragon who served Bahamut. You were too proud and vain, to the point that Bahamut decided to teach you a lesson. You have been trapped in a weak, humanoid body, with your memories of your former life, but a dim shadow. You remember only one thing with perfect clarity: Bahamut’s command to go into the world and prove your devotion to the cause of good. If you prove worthy, on your death you will return to his side in your true form.
