So used to the comments hurled at him every day, Edmund doesn't realize that the man is probably referring to Kusanorr, and narrows his eyes at him. "I'm not a demon, human. Not even part. None of those mad creatures plague my blood, but the lords of hell run in my veins. Watch your tongue in the future, lest I take it." He flicks his tail, moderately annoyed he defended the wretch.

"Maybe their chief is a man of wisdom. We certainly need to identify this...thing...before we decide what to do with it. It's too pitiful, I think, unless it's trying to placate us while we have superior numbers. If he can't identify it, we can leave it with them. This is their land, no? The creature is their problem, then."

Edmund raises an eyebrow and looks at Daka for a moment. "The man you hold did us no ill will...yet. He, in fact, seemed to try to stop the one who has earned his own justice. There's no call or such treatment."

When the inevitable puzzled looks appear as a result of what appears to be mercy in the face of his earlier reprimand at their kindness, he retorts. "Actions breed reactions. In the face of the unknown, I would advise prudence, but that pitiful wretch cowered and tried to get his associate...not friend, as far as I could tell, since the two of them were fighting when we arrived...to back down. This thing, however," he points a finger at Kusanorr, "we witnessed siphon a human from the very land and appear in it's place. That is something to be concerned about, though if it be our ally and paying justice unto that which assaulted us, it has moments to reply before my patience reaches it's end."

And I'm a devil-blooded tiefling, not demon - far more organized and lawful

He returns his gaze on Kusanorr and frowns. "Now. You have some explaining to do. You know at least two words of common, so you better hope you understand more, because frankly it would be more trouble than it's worth knock you out and drag you to a wizard and pay for a tongues spell. I don't even remember how far back the nearest town was..."

"Hmph." Leaning down to pick up his dropped tower shield, Edmund return his gandasa to his belt. If this thing moves on any of us, I'll rip it to shreds with my own fangs. At least this gives whatever it is a false sense of security. He slings the shield up into place again. "Where in the nine hells did the madman go? He won't escape due punishment so easily."

Edmund's face holds no joy as he stares at the man coldly. "As an initiate of the Hellknights, I bring order with me where I walk. In the face of five witnesses, I find you guilty of assault, attempted murder, and disturbing the peace. Receive your just punishment." He twists the blade for good measure and thrusts the polearm deeper into the man's body.

Mechanics:

Same modifiers as last round
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Getting annoyed with the madman's incessant ducking and dodging, Edmund drops his shield, grips his short polearm with two hands, and moves with a downward arc of the weapon's blade.

"Your friend..."

Mechanics:

Drop tower shield, 5' step from n0 to m1, and two-handing gandasa for extra damage
+3 attack without tower shield, +2 from flanking with Torcet
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

No worries. Shirak specifically mentioned tripping in his post is why I asked.

As the maddened fool turns his back to Edmund, the tiefling rears back and stabs towards the man's spine.

Rolls:

Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

But apparently luck is just not with him this day. Geeze, such rolls!

Wouldn't him standing from prone and/or charging past me/leaving my threatened area provoke an attack of opportunity? Plus, forgiveness, but charging requires at least 10' of movement, and if the map is any judge, he only moved 5'.

Edmund shakes his head and the poor fool. He ducks low and comes up with a wicked arc of his gandasa, the short polearm moving like an extension of his arm.

Mechanics:

attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
damage: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7

He then shifts his body so as to give his allies access to his new assailant.

Edmund proceeds to follow, but keeps his weapon and shield out for trouble, since they're apparently hunting down the source of their auditory assault. "We should proceed with caution. Don't assume everything can be reasoned with. It is useful when it can and saves effort, but sometimes offering to parley is only giving up the element of surprise." He pauses and scratches his chin with his tail. "Though, I admit, getting clues from a tree is new to me, so exceptions may of course be made. Still...one offer is enough. After that it is hands empty of weapons or chest full of them. Repetitious offers to talk are wasteful kindness."

Seeing as he hasn't exactly been assaulted yet, Edmund makes no move yet to strike the impending voice, but furrows his brow. He rolls his eyes at his companions. "Yes, let's all just offer this random magical stranger assaulting our ability to perceive the environment a bunch of hugs and fairy dust, while we're at it."

He turns to look at the triangle in the distance and raises a brow. He doesn't really know what to make of this phenomenon, but decides to focus on the more immediate conversation. He turns to the voice near his ear, gandasa in hand, ready to impale anyone sneaking up on him. The warrior growls. "Enough of this foolishness. I have no time for idle games. Show yourself, and I better see empty hands, or I will not be so kind as my companions' offers."

Edmund draws his tower shield and gandasa and starts to shake his head in annoyance. Sure, just let the enemy know you're terrified. Blasted cowards.

Infernal:
"Oh for the love of Asmodeus, next thing you know they're going to offer to parley with the mysterious force that assaulted us without warning."

Edmund grits his teeth and as soon as the druid speaks in common rolls his eyes. "...And there it is." he mutters to no one in particular in common.

His muscles tighten and he raises the massive wall of wood and starts to circle the tree where the sound came from...

Edmund marches on past the guards and their stares. He's used to it, of course, and has been for years, though he has to admit to himself: There certainly have been more stares since leaving Cheliax, I suppose...and I thought tieflings had a bad rep there...hmph, pathetic peasants wouldn't know glory if it walked past them and stared them in the eye.

Remaining silent, his tail whips in disdain, and he looks on to the others with him, but then returns his eyes to the road. It's only when his ears perk up at the lack of sound that he stops, hands reaching to his weapon and shield. "Hold. Something seems...wrong. There's an unease in the air. I don't like it."

No it sounds fine to me. Leads to that or your missing person, whatever is easiest for the GM.

Ed is evil, so he needs something selfish to motivate him, but he's lawful evil, like Magneto, so he can play with the good guys when it suits his purpose without backstabbing anyone. He isn't evil for evil's sake or a psychopath. He's just selfish and organized and strong willed, so when he sets his mind to something, he will let his ends justify the means.

So if he has a goal, he can be a real team player.

Trying to find connections we could have between characters...

Kusanorr, I don't see any kind of story, personality, or anything to work with on your character. I just see "I'm a Kasatha with two arms instead of four" so I'm not sure why Edmund would know you or travel with you, etc.

I'd say Edmund has in common with Torcet a desire to put emotions on the back burner. Edmund is curious about his fiendish heritage - he's not sure if the man who raised him is really his father, and somewhere at least two generations down the line is some obvious diabolism, so any investigation into that he can do could be useful. He would be willing to offer protection as a partnership to team up and find out more.

Daka is also a race typically shunned by men, and the tiefling counts himself less judged by half orcs, so he would have little issue with him (even though Ed is not by any stretch of the imagination good). Having a hard time finding out how else they would be connected. Which god, by the way, are you a cleric of?

Hello. Checking in here. I'm at EST if it matters (Florida).

Thanks for the invite, GM.

Will give some more interaction after I finish church. Have a great morning.

Hi. This is TGTG. This alias was created for a game that pretty much ended as soon as it started - the GM flaked hard due to depression, and the rest of us players tried to keep it going between his posts, but alas, players can't hold a game together when a GM won't show.

Edmund is a spoiled bastard son of a Chelish noble woman, who's father denies his heritage and swears due to his overwhelming fiendish features that his wife cheated on him with a devil and that Edmund is half fiend and not a mere tiefling. Whether that is true or not, Ed doesn't know for sure, but he does know that as soon as his mother dies he loses all the comfort and status that nobility brought him.

Edmund was originally designed to be a Hellknight wannabee, working his way into the Order of the Nail in a game set in Korvosa, but I think in your game he'd be better set as a newbie in one of the orders, perhaps the Order of the Pike, sent east to Taldor to deal with some troubles brewing up there with monsters (since the Pike deals with monsters, is a lesser order, and seems like it would have the greatest reason for traveling in my opinion of the orders).

Edmund is looking for glory. The knighthood was a means to an ends to establish himself as a legitimate noble, but any means to power will do. He's arrogant, proud, but very disciplined and believes strongly in order - it's one of the reasons he joined the Hellknights.

You should know I don't plan on going for either of the Hellknight prestige classes. Mechanically, I just think they don't fit any of my goals. I just like the organization, you know? Edmund is devil-blooded tiefling, a phalanx fighter aiming for the Stalwart Defender prestige class.

I'm going to have to tweak him, as he was designed with 20 point buy, 3 traits, and 2 background skills, but you can get a good look at him in this alias for how he would flow before I finish tweaking him up.

As fighters are generally considered a modicum weaker than your average class, I was wondering what you thought of the optional stamina rules from Unchained that give them a little more "oomph" compared to other classes.

Frankly, I figured a commoner would be out cold from a nearly max damage punch. NPCs don't usually get max HP for first level like PCs do, commoner is a d6, and most stay arrays for them are not kind in terms of constitution.

"Well, not anymore." Edmund cracks his knuckles. "I would have said the punch evened it out. It was Marcus who talked about him bringing a mob. I was simply being prudent, as you always said, Hiram. He's just a nobody drunk. Why risk retribution over some idiot's life when the river is right there? Nobody forced him to do such foolishness or start anything with a superior." "Considering he isn't going to get off riling a mob up against me and then insulting me further upon their dispersal, it sounds like you're saying that, given there's no witnesses, I should have slit the fool's throat and thrown him in the river. A prudent decision, I suppose, but I figured knocking him out to sleep it off would be the kinder alternative for insulting my honor...but if you think he will do as you say and round up another mob, well, pragmaticism would dictate killing him."

Edmund shrugs, as if this is more of an annoyance than anything. "Foolish end to a fool," He mutters, intending to (and probably unable to) walk around Marcus.

"Before you scold me for provoking him, know I've been in this boat many times. There's no reasoning with a drunk bigot. Better to make them so angry they're even more off balance. No kindness will soothe these fools. Plus, let's be honest here, I'm annoyed. I'm annoyed about my garbage meal I spent good money on. I'm annoyed about that kid stealing my money when I know she will get a slap on the wrist instead of an axe cleaving it off like she deserves just because the fool hasn't had enough years pass where she broke the law to get properly punished for it."

He hefts his shield off his back, pulls out his gandasa. "Yes, I was going to do whatever justifies your assault to a child for stealing from me. Now just imagine what I'm likely to do to a grown man or that pissed me off, or three idiots hiding in a crowd trying to sneak up on me."

"Oh, shut up and drink your tea, old man."

Ed grins, well, fiendishly, as if he had any other means of grinning, and upon getting the guards information, he will head back to his table to eat, drink, and try and put this annoyance behind him.

Ed notes their badge numbers and won't cause trouble, then. He has three witnesses in Sclivian, Leandric, and Hiram. That should be sufficient should it come to trouble, legally speaking.

Actually this would, most likely, be satisfactory to Edmundm...If he thought the "not giving me my damn money back" part was legit. I am assuming they have badges of position as guards. Do they have identifying numbers? Ed would make a note of this, because how is he to tell some dirty guards wouldn't skim his cash and say the girl didn't have anything.

"Ah, yes. ...and your names? So I can report this incident to your supervisors, and know who to say referred me when I come to collect my money? 20 gold is not a trifle."

Edmund seems to be looking irritated that he cannot get his money.

Infernal:
"I'll be more damned than I already am if you think I'm going to be robbed by a child, Chase down and catch the thief, only to be robbed again by adults."

It's cool. Did you see the last post? B*tch better have my money! Plenty of room to scrap with that.

Was already handing her over as I asked casually...but since you pointed out I didn't get my money...

"Our meals should be ready by now, anyway, since Marcus has been waiting so patiently. There's simply the matter of reacquiring my stolen goods."

Is Edmund Charthagnion gonna have to choke a b*tch?!

Edmund (presumably sinceI was not told otherwise) finding his cash, nods and holds the little wretch out by the ankle he grasps, dangling her upside down. "Yes, of course. Sclivian, what by chance is the punishment for thievery in Korvosa of visiting dignitaries in an amount of 20 gold? I am just curious."

Oh, such a shame I don't speak the language

"Have it your way. You were given your choice, thief. The ankles it is."

Edmund grips the kid like a vice while Hiram manacles her up, then flips her upside and starts to drag her by the ankles back to the bar full of guards.

"Really, Hiram, it's like they want to be punished. I mean, really, who looks at me and says, 'you know, I think it would be a good idea to piss that guy off,' to themselves? It's honestly better that rif-raff like this spends some time in a cell to ponder her stupidity."

As he's walking down the street, he looks around at the concerned citizens. [b]"Yes, yes, oh, I'm a horrible person, stare at me. That's why I'm walking right into a bar full of Sable Marines and Korvosan Guards. Because I'm also the world's stupidest monster, apparently. This kid stole from me. Speaking of which..."

A thorough, but not invasive, pat down for stolen goods follows.
