Thank you everyone for playing! Chronicles were emailed out yesterday. Please let me know if all is well. Will wait about a day before making this inactive but always feel free to PM me.

Botting Purrlock and Vante.

Purrlock moves up to purple, devises a strategy, and attempts to take a swipe out of the purple

Devise: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Slashing + Precision: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5

Vante instructs JK to attack and fires a shot from his shortbow.

Shortbow attack vs Purple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
DMG: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Paw attack vs. Purple: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Paw attack vs. Purple, MAP: 1d20 + 6 - 5 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 5 = 16
DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Paw attack vs. Purple: 1d20 + 6 - 10 ⇒ (7) + 6 - 10 = 3
DMG: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

And with the onslaught of attacks, the bodyguard in purple goes unconscious. The bodyguard in green throws down his sap. "What a fool! This job ain't worth it, told 'em!"

**OUT OF COMBAT**

Dr. Rolph and Penelette Weaverish come forward and stabilize Baltaram and the guard. While the medics work, Asrennia says with a flourish of her hand, "Well now, don't be alarmed, dear, cherished guests. It's all part of the spectacle!" Though you do get the sense that she is glaring at you whenever you lock eyes, until you make yourselves scarce from the exhibits. Word quickly spreads through the crowd about Baltaram's forgeries, and it's clear his reputation is ruined.

You quickly head back to tell Shance the good news, and they literally jump for joy. "You have no idea what you've just done for my uncle. Here, take what you're owed. Thank you thank you thank you!"

This is the end of the Bounty. Hope everyone had fun! Please feel free to write up a parting post. Hope to have chronicles out by the end of the week.

The Worm Ouroboros takes a bite from the green guard's leg, and Pib lands a good blow to the man's chest. He staggers, clearly hurt. "All right, this idiot ain't worth dyin' over! Job don't pay that well!"

The purple guard says, "You bloody coward! I'll show ye how a real fighter does it."

Green looks to be preparing to surrender due to the damage he's taken.

Purrlock's claws rake the bodyguard in green across his chest. The man staggers back, clearly injured. Ouroboros's teeth does not find any purchase though. Norbwald attempts to find a weakness in Baltaram but JK's attack renders the floundering artist unconscious. The bodyguards look warily at each other, but their resolve seems to remain intact at least for now.

The bodyguard in green shakes off the effects of Pib's performance. He shouts, "I'm gonna get paid!" He strikes out three times at Pib, hitting only once. The guard in purple still attempts to protect Baltaram's unconscious form. He also strikes out at JK but misses.

Baltaram is hit dead on by the electric projectile! He staggers back but the rage on his face only deepens. "This will not stand!"

He rushes in, palm out to give a big slap across the face to Pib, but completely fumbles it and stumbles over his own feet and just brushes Pib across the chest instead. Critical Failure He then backs away, realizing he might be overwhelmed.

One of the bodyguards Green moves forward to protect Baltaram with a sap, and lashes out twice at Pib, hitting once with a bruising hit, and missing wide the next time Critical Failure. The other moves and adopts a defensive position over Baltaram.

With a wave of her hand, Asrennia silences the hushed whispers as the accusations begin to fly. "I will not have such forgeries in my presence. I denounce the fraud known as Baltaram Crounotte. I do hereby promise to restore Trinsky

"That's enough!" A man pushes through the crowd followed by two bodyguards wielding saps. "I, Baltaram Crounotte am appalled at these accusations. I will defend my honor by all means necessary. Defend yourselves, horrid critics!"

10 Critique Points gained total.

Before announcing the winners from the four main exhibits, Asrennia says with a cutting smile, ”Before I announce the winners from the four main exhibits, however, I would invite our newcomers to give commentary and thoughts on what they’ve seen and experienced here tonight.” All eyes turn toward you.

Will make the last big push tomorrow morning. Sorry everyone, long day today. Should be the big finale!

The typically boisterous Dr. Rolph merely raises an eyebrow, gives a silent nod, and strides off. His uncharacteristic response draws a hushed murmur from nearby attendees.

9 critique points earned so far.

---------

After an evening of interacting with the artists, art critics, and other socialites, you follow the crowd into the main hall [ooc]see slides where Asrennia is preparing to thank her guests and announce her favorite pieces from the various galleries. She starts with several rounds of terrible jokes and descriptions of some of the winners from the minor galleries.

During this time, if you wish, each of you can conduct one of the following activities and attempt the associated check: mingle with the crowd (Diplomacy), spread rumors (Bluff), or bully others into agreement (Intimidation). Each success earns an additional Critique Point as you sway the attendees to your point of view or collect more tidbits of information about Baltaram.

Rolph rotates the carousel to the journal of sketches of an apothecary grinding herbs for medicines. Look at this and tell me what you think, eh?"

Vante's keen insight notices the organization of information presented by the sketches is haphazard at best. It represents an amateur understanding of scientific principles.

Purrlock realizes that the plants depicted in these sketches are medicinally useless.

3 critique points gained.

His chest puffs out as he inhales sharply. "Right here. What do you make of this latest Baltaram's sketch?!”

Skill checks available: Medicine, Herbalism, Library Lore, Scribing Lore.

Norbwald knows that this squirrel is in fact a real creature turned to stone by magic. No sculpting was involved at all.

Pib realizes that there are no squirrels of this type anywhere near Magnimar.

2 critique points earned.

When you point this out, the Darrageau sisters whisper intently to one another and move off through the gallery, rapidly drawing the attention of others who want in on the gossip.

===========

Last but not least, Herbalism Exhibit!

In this room, numerous carousels display sketches and diagrams depicting apothecaries and herbalists collecting and processing flowers, herbs, and other plants for various remedies and medicines. A tall vocal man is dramatically rotating and topping a carousel displaying sketches, loudly complaining that the sketches, which are supposed to convey scientific knowledge and processes, lack accuracy.

”I swear, the youth these days have no scientific rigor in them. We must adhere to process or we are nothing but animals!” He turns to you. ”Oh, see here, I didn’t notice you. Apologies. Fander Rolph, pleased to make your acquaintance. Come to view this pseudo-scientific slop?”

Audren looks to a granite sculpture of a squirrel wearing a very fine coat and tie. The name plate states the title “Magnimar Bushytail”, and the artist is one Baltaram Crounotte. ”What do you think of this one?”

Skill checks available: Survival, Magnimar Lore, Arcana.

This garden of sculptures is made up entirely of animals wearing current fashion trends from various regions around the Inner Sea. Two women that look to be sisters and wearing matching large wigs discuss the sculptures in hushed tones here, trying to determine what city or nation each piece is from.

They turn to you almost in unison. ”Oh, hello there. I’m known as Audren Darrageau and this is my sister Lauress. Come to view the sculptures?”

Will push things forward, please flashback any details you want to layer in.

You've discovered that Baltaram's painting was almost certainly done by another artist. Armed with yet another fake piece of artistry, you set your sights on the last of the two major exhibits.

Apexi says, wandering away, "Curious, yes, very curious".

Final vote!: A2: Sculpture Gallery; A3: Herbalism Exhibit

random roll: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Vante BOT nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Vante and Purrlock both look at the painting but don't see anything substantially off with it.

Apexi says, "There might certainly be a critique in store for this one, no?"

Norbwald:
You notice the brush strokes as compared to some of the other paintings you've seen, and you deduce that Baltaram's painting was done by another artist.

1 critique point gained.

Apexi mutters, ”I’m not concerned with such things.” He motions to a painting. Yes, Baltaram Crounotte here has made quite a name for himself lately. What do you think of this, hmm?”

Skill checks available: Perception, Art Lore, or Survival.

Hint: Apexi seems to be waiting for you to mention why a band of armed Pathfinders would REALLY be here.

"Excellent! I love a good show, but what I miss the most is the thrill of the hunt! You seem to be hunting for something, or someone, yourselves, eh?"

Apexi turns and is moderately startled by the assortment of Pathfinders in front of him, though he conceals it just as fast. "Ah, well, yes, no I'm not a painter. I'm just an admirer of nature, a hunter, yes! Do you remember the good old days when you could take your crossbow and take your son out for a good safari? A gentlemen's sport, yes! Ha Ha!"

He says, "What brings you lot to an exhibit such as this?"

Sorry everyone, long day. Will push things forward in the morning.

A collection of paintings depicts a variety of forest scenes, most of which include animals or game trails. An older man stands amidst the paintings, viewing each in turn. For each scene, he loudly lists off how many of each animal he has slain.

He looks almost startled when he notices you. ”Oh, hello there. Pardon me, I was just lost in memory for a moment. Apexi Fulminoir at your service. What do you think of these works?”

3 critique points gained for the mechanical exhibit. Good job everyone!

Wormcaller:
You notice that this device only functions due to magic. The clockwork is useless.

At Vante pointing this out about the planets, Penelette laughs so hard she bumps a display, nearly knocking it to the floor. She apologizes profusely, drawing a great deal of attention, and continues laughing quietly to herself for much of the evening.

Looks like there's nothing more to see here. Where to next?

A1: Painting Gallery; A2: Sculpture Gallery; A3: Herbalism Exhibit.

No worries, have fun!

Vante and Purrlock examine both the sketch and the nearby mechanical contraption itself.

Vante:
You notice that Baltaram's piece has a glaring flaw: the planets are rotating in the wrong direction.

Purrlock:
The device seems well made and functional to a cursory inspection.

2 critique points gained.

At the mention of Trinsky, Penelette grows pensive, then quietly taps a drawing in her notebook—a perfect sketch of one of the clockwork devices nearby, a gearbox that represents the solar system. Its creator, she’s noted, is Baltaram Cruonotte.

Skill checks available: Nature, Astronomy Lore, Crafting

In this exhibit, a series of clockwork devices represent numerous elements of nature, such as the cycles of the sun and moon and the movements of other heavenly bodies. A female gnome wearing work clothes as loudly colored as her hair is furiously scribbling notes while trying to keep from being stepped on.

She snaps her eyes over to you. "Oh hi! What wonderful mechanical wonders this place holds, eh? Come to see them? Name’s Penelette Weaverish.”

"Absolutely!" He says to Vante's question. "I believe Asrennia allows all manner of creature into the estate provided they pique her interest!"

GM Screen:

Society, Vante: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Society, Purrlock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Following the directions on the invitation, the estate that Asrennia Vaville has converted from asylum to art gallery is only a 15-minute walk from the inn where you met Shance. The bleak building with barred windows stands in stark contrast to the ostentatious outfits of the several dozen guests making their way into the venue. Asrennia Vaville herself stands at the entrance. With a simple smile or disappointed frown, she indicates who is welcome and who must go, and no one seems willing to defy or question her decisions. She smiles at the you and says, “Newcomers are always welcome at the gallery of Asrennia Vaville. Please, come in, and enjoy the displays. The theme of the night is one of contrast between civilization and nature—you simply must tell me what you think. Enjoy your evening.”

While there are many artists and displays throughout the spacious gallery, there are four major exhibits on display this evening that catch your eye…

How It Works: You will need to evaluate the art on display and gather evidence to sway Asrennia Vaville’s opinion on who the culprit is. In each exhibit, while talking with the artists or guests, each of you can attempt a single check to analyze and critique the art in question and earn Critique Points. The map is up on the slides - A1 through A4 can be selected. Once half of the party decides on a course of action, we will proceed!

A1: Painting Gallery; A2: Sculpture Gallery; A3: Herbalism Exhibit; A4: Mechanical Exhibit

Slides are now editable. Sorry everyone, had it as view only.

You find yourself in Isarn, the capital of Galt, outside an inn that caters to travelers. A sign outside originally read “Travelers, Travelers!” but somebody painted “BEWARE” in red, changing the message to “Travelers, Beware: Travelers!” A young halfling stands by the entrance desperately trying to hand some sort of envelope to people entering or exiting the inn.

The halfling says to you as you approach:“You, there! A minute of your time? I can pay—I need your help. Rather, my uncle does. I’m Shance Hattenpock, and my uncle Trinsky is a talented sculptor. Unfortunately, he has fallen victim to the endless political scheming that plagues Galt. Someone framed him for art forgery, casting him into disgrace, no doubt to advance their own station. There’s a salon tonight, at an art gallery of sorts. Many artists will be there, trying to impress Asrennia Vaville, the hostess. I’m certain one of them framed my uncle, but I’ve been uninvited. Will you attend the salon and help expose the truth to restore my uncle’s name?”

They hand you the envelope containing an invitation to the salon, which starts in less than an hour. It includes directions to Asrennia Vaville’s gallery, a short distance from the inn where you stand. Shance adds that Asrennia Vaville is part of a group of wealthy bureaucrats who believe that having guests from a variety of professions and backgrounds is a sign of the host’s sophistication, so the PCs should have no trouble entering the event.

Shance also says, ”I can offer a reward of four gold marks for each of you if you can learn who consipired against my uncle and publicly clear his name! Maybe play the part of socialite or artists, ask around about the scandal, try to find some hint or proof of the culprit’s vile act!”

It looks like we are all full up, sorry!

EDIT: Also slides are linked at the top everyone. We'll have some roleplaying to start so no need to rush filling it out. First gameplay post to come tomorrow!

Sorry everyone, we've had a death in the family, so I won't be able to post until tomorrow mid-morning or so.

Yes, absolutely.

"Thank you," Gellion says, [b]"I know I've caused a lot of trouble, and, well, our town's past experiences with this sort of thing doesn't bode well for me, but anything you could do would be appreciated."

Nolaria says, "I think they mentioned bringing her to the North gate."

Over the hours, the townspeople start to get wind of what's happened and start to crowd around the temple, shouting out for a trial. You move outside and manage to quell the crowd's anxiousness, explaining what actually happened and how. The mayor also lends her voice to the calls to allow Gellion a fair trial, and so the procession moves to the square next to the gallows. The trial proceeds with evidence and accusations, and eventually, Gellion is acquitted on account of being controlled against his will by otherworldly forces.

Gellion being spared angers some members, but the majority see its wisdom when the mayor pronounces it, and the crowd disperses soon enough.

Then, turning your attention to the matter at hand, the mayor addresses you again. “Our town is dealing with its share of troubles right now, and this unknown menace beyond our walls has me the most worried.”

She takes a deep breath as if composing herself assuming a self-assured posture that seems to come to her much more naturally. “Specifically, we may have a goblin problem,” the mayor continues. “I’ve recently received reports of goblins lurking in the woods outside of town. There have been no attacks yet—only minor damage to fences and some stolen sheep, I’m told—but we can’t afford to let our guard down. Given how we suffered during the Goblinblood Wars, we can’t assume that these scattered sightings are meaningless when they might very well mean that a major warband is about to descend on our heads.

“Even worse, it seems that these goblins are covered in some unholy manner of filth—even more so than normal! If word about that gets out, well, folks might start to panic. We are a superstitious lot here in Saringallow, as I’m sure you know.

“In short, we need to move quickly and deal with these goblins before they become a larger threat. Sending members of the town guard out into the woods, though, could leave us open to attack. I’m sure you see my dilemma.

“This is where I’d like you to intercede, my friends. Find out where the goblins are coming from and who—if anyone—is leading them, then take out the threat. I can offer you a bounty of 5 gold pieces for each goblin you kill, 10 gold pieces for each goblin dog, and an additional bonus of 100 gold pieces if you bring me proof that you’ve destroyed their camp or otherwise dealt with whatever additional threat they pose.

“Most of the sightings have originated from the area northwest of town, particularly near the homesteaders out by Clover Stream. That’s probably a good place to start your investigation. Aside from that, I’m afraid I don’t have much else to tell you. Unless you have any specific questions?”

Hey sorry about that guys. We've been transitioning our toddler over to a new bed and it's been a bit hard on my sleep schedule; I've been trying to keep my head above water but this one fell off my radar and for that I apologize.

I'll get a new post in here in a few minutes. We are mostly done with the first module and I will kind of speed through the transition to the next.

Gellion wakes a few minutes later and is somewhat changed, but no longer aggressive.

Ildris says, "I've healed the disease inside him, but the trauma done because of it may linger."

Gellion comes up to you and Nolaria.

Nolaria says, "Oh Gellion! You're awake."

Gellion says with a downturned head, "I'm so sorry everyone. I don't remember what happened. All I remember was a buzzing sound, insects or something, and the urge to help someone, or something in its goal. I could feel it, scraping out my head. I heard something about a trial? What did I do?"

3-4.

Onnello thinks that Nolaria is telling the truth. "Yes absolutely I will testify on his behalf! I'm sure the others will once they're awake as well. I think it was that purple goo. It was on the gravestones where we met. I think he was trying to spread it."

She thinks for a moment, then her eyes flash wide. "I almost forgot. My cousin Nixa was among the captives, but they took her away. Gellion tied her up and left outside of town, bound with rope where the goblins roam! She might be in danger!"

They are finished! Please go HERE for your chronicles and please let me know if there are any errors and I will get them corrected asap.

Once again, thank you for playing through the entire series with me. I had a blast.

If anyone has a day job check that you want to roll, please do so now.

EDIT: I also need Phoebee's PFS number.

I assume Sira will be the target of your chronicle, Voodoomonkey?

"A knight! Oh thank Old Deadeye that you were sent! Is Gellion..." She looks at you meekly for a moment. "Is he dead? He wasn't in control of himself. That stuff had its way with him. We fought in the graveyard. He was yelling about the demon worms and their home. The chittering in his head."

The mayor says, "He will stay at the jail for now, but it will do some good for you to speak on his behalf. The townspeople will want someone to blame for this, for the vermin attacks that've plagued the area recently, and I can imagine all too well the mob that will get riled up when they find Gellion to blame. Otherwise, he may be hanged in the gallows for what he's done. But, if what you say is true, and Cabo and Ildris here have confirmed this of sorts, that the Demon's Bile was controlling his actions, or influencing his mind at least. That will go a long way, with your testimony, in his defense. In the meantime, I will have two of my guards fetch him shortly."

She moves to leave and looks back over her shoulder. "Good job today. It seems my faith in outsiders, and you Dac, wasn't misplaced after all."

____

After waiting some time, one of the apprentices, Nolaria starts to stir. Then she wakes in a dizzy haze. "No, Gellion! Wait, where...the temple? How..."

She looks around in confusion.

Amenopheus's shoulders slump slightly but he regains his composure the moment after. He says, "Very well then. As the speakers for the Ruby Sage have declared it, so it shall be. Now, let us discuss our plans for the future..."

Scenario end! Thank you everyone for playing in this arc with me. I hope everyone had fun. Chronicles will be up in the next day or two.
