Half-orc Destroyer 9 | HP 31/97 | AC 22-T15-F19 | F+13 R+10 W+5 | CMD 30 | Per +8, Init +3 | Rage: 1rd remaining

No longer raging, so that helps, but fatigue dings my dex slightly... however with haste, my AC is 22. So missed by a hair on the 21.

Drax wheezes a furious but weary assent to Quarr's suggestion. He looks darkly at the beloved knives he is currently being forced to leave on the ground as he pulls back. Also withdrawing

The Exchange

Half-orc Destroyer 9 | HP 31/97 | AC 22-T15-F19 | F+13 R+10 W+5 | CMD 30 | Per +8, Init +3 | Rage: 1rd remaining

Drax snarls his fury at being pummeled, and taunted, and takes a step back to have room to swing his hammer.

Raging, not PA, flank, aid, haste: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 28
Iterative: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 20

And with that, Drax seems to run out of some spark of his warrior's spirit, shoulders sagging, eyes burning with defiance but a new and unknown feeling: that he is perhaps outmatched.

"I will spit on your corpse," he says to the monk, but the venom in his words is somewhat outmatched by how out of breath he is.

End rage, now fatigued

With him 10' off the ground, the flanks won't do us any good anymore since I can't get the flanks. (well, sorry, that's not true, it can still give fliers a flank, it just can't give ME one.) Never mind, just saw he'd moved back in I'm just worried about one of us getting dropped if we give him one more round of attacks on us, which makes it a loooot harder TO retreat without leaving someone to die.

Anyway, here goes nothing... *goes to post

GM, I know as a group we've collectively lost some of our steam (I'm as guilty as anyone there). Can you give us a rough estimate of how close we are to the end of the module? Might help inspire us some, this one's kind of turned into a long slog in some ways (though again, thank you for picking up the game with us).

Drax gets pummeled several times, and even Ananta's tonglen is hard-pressed to keep up with the brutal damage. For a few seconds Drax stands with no bellowed challenge, his head ringing from the blows.

"Urrr.... coward..." he mutters obligatorily at the monk's retreat into the air. Shaking his head to clear it, he lets his knives clatter to the ground, draws his lucerne hammer, and tries to take advantage of the aiding of his colleagues.

Still raging, with I believe two aids and a flank, NOT power attacking, hasted: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 11 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 32
Damage: 1d12 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Sneak attack damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

"We.... need a better plan," Drax says to the others, blood running into his eyes. "Drax admits this is not working well..."

He staggers back a short step from the monk, putting a ten foot space between him and the monk. "What magics are on him, can anyone make them go away?"

Realistically, we're missing even in the 16+ and up rolls, fellow PCs, and I'm going to hit fatigue the round after this. We might need to consider a retreat if we can't do something to debuff some of this AC of his. This was a rough fight to run into when so low on our resources. :(

It might be more useful if you were aiding, either to AC or attacks, at this point. Alternately, your ability to fly would allow you to get into a position to aerially flank with Drax-- flank and aid would give a +4 here and enable a little extra sneak attack damage. Not trying to tell you what to do!! Just trying to offer some suggestions. And yes, it definitely sucks to be ranged against monks, my sympathies. *pat pat*

23 won't hit me, due to haste. Rage gives me -2, but defensive flurry gives me a +2, canceling it out. So with rage, haste, and full attacking, my current listed AC 24 is accurate. So I think I only take the 17 hp off attack #3. Correct me if I'm wrong. Current HP should be: (-28 hp + -17 hp + 5 (life link this round) = -40 hp

Drax bellows with even less coherent words this time, his anger just getting more acute at the 'trickery' from his foe that robs him of the glory of his blows.

Fort save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 Oh FFS. :-\ I'm going to use my folio reroll on that; GM, let me know if you'd like a picture of it. Also I'm technically up 2 more HP since I lost my raging temp hp (all 2 of them) first, so after that and Ananta I should be at -28 HP.

Reroll with GM stars: 1d20 + 13 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 13 + 4 = 35

It looks like I should be up in turn order now; please ignore the attacks if I'm somehow jumping the gun

Drax looks blank through the speech filled with words that are too long for his admittedly short attention span.

"I have a question. Why do you talk so much?" the big man growls. "It annoys Drax! And since you think you will kill us anyway, it is stupid, since it is just a lot of wasted talk! Why do so many people like to hear themselves talk for a very long time and have no purpose to it? Drax has traveled through many lands and many miles and still does not understand why everyone he meets likes to TALK so much!"

With this disgusted speech, the half-orc grabs a vial from his belt and downs it...

(I recognize we may be in a 'cut-scene' of narration, where an action will trigger initiative. If so, that's fine, Drax's first action, possibly kicking off the combat, will be to drink a potion of invisibility.)

"If we go out we have to cross that pit full of dead bodies again and also the stupid sign in the doorway!" Drax complains. "No. We can find a room to use, I think, if we try."

Let's try green. OOCly I'm not opposed to retreating out, but it seems we'd have to go pretty far to be sure of a safe space that the cultists can't follow us to, given the open jungle will provide them lots of cover to sneak up on us. Whereas if we can find a defensible room that can be barricaded, that might actually be a safer place to try to rest.

Drax grunts his thanks for the rope and brushes himself off, looking at the others. "I can stab things all day!" he boasts. "...but it is easier, with your magics. This will be a hard place to rest in safely, but maybe we will find a good chamber and pile things in front of the door to stop these cowards from coming in our sleep. If you all need rest because of your magics, then I will look for such a place! Even though I am not tired."

Picking up his various dropped weaponry, Drax snifs the air. "We should go... back to the main room," he says, pointing with a blade. "The woman did not do through those double doors or we would have seen them open. Also, those cowards we killed in the front room may have things on their cowardly bodies that we want."

He suits action to word by checking the corpse of the cultist they killed in this room, first.

Hey, that's what I double-checked! In that case:

Drax realizes his foes are actually still on the ground. Laughing uproariously, the big man gives chase-- he is fleet of foot normally (base move 45'), and with the haste up, he has no trouble reaching the slower of the two monks. He lashes out with a single kukri.

Welcome back. Just double-checking, by 'the monks flew' you mean they are actually flying in air, or is that just 'retreating'? I might have Drax switch to ranged, or he might try to jump if they're under a certain altitude. With haste up he's pretty good at jumping. So are they flying off the ground, and if so, how high?

Drax just belly-laughs at the blunted strike, which heals almost as soon as it begins thanks to Ananta. He wheels on the man between him and Ananta, his rage building.

My bad, missed the surprise. Alright, reasonable suggestion, won't enter rage and will just take the first/single attack, which would only be an 18 to hit. The AC will wash the same, no defensive flurry but no rage either.

"This suits Drax, small one," Drax says in answer to Quarr. The big man strides alongside the gnome, glaring up at the second story as if expecting enemies to appear at any second.

"They are probably hiding like the cowards they are! More archers maybe. DRAX DOES NOT FEAR YOU. Come and die on Drax's blade with SOME honor!"

I think that was particular instance was due to us having been specifically doing a check for traps and having stated actions of only moving forward if we didn't find them. Having found them we would have naturally wanted to stop and try and think about ways to deal with them. I recognize you were just trying to keep us moving forward, etc, but it meant that we felt like we didn't get the chance to use our own ingenuity, does that make sense? But barring cases of 'we see something that looks like we should deal with it, or attempt to', it seems to make sense we'll move as a group. :)

"--eh? If you want to walk ahead Drax will not stop you from being stabbed!" Drax says quite amiably to Quarr, but calls back: "Lastwall knight! Come! Drax cannot take all your kills. Drax will allow you one, so you do not have to go home to your Lastwall in dishonor."

Then, he jogs after Quarr.

Is it possible to assume we're moving together as a group? I know PBP can be finicky, as one doesn't want to assume people are moving where they might not be, but if Quarr and I our tokens up before Ananta or Konrad get a chance to, etc, we might trigger encounters with the others a round away, blah blah. Could we just assume they're moving maybe 10' back of Quarr (who's easily our best perception, I think)?

"HAHA. That was great," Drax says, pleased with the results of his violence. Obviously stealth is really low on his priority list.

"The hallway goes a while then turns. Let us go see if any are coming to die on Drax's blades because they heard the ugly rock falling!"

He strides forward, kukris drawn.

Drax makes a face at the statue, and shakes off Quarr's hand irritably. "This thing is ugly. I don't like it watching me."

He tries to tip the statue over onto its side in the room, but if a few attempts don't suffice to knock it over, he grunts and moves around the statue, peering down the passageway that leads north.

Drax grunts and shrugs. "Alright. I can kill a stone bird thing easy if it does not move!"

He fiddles with his wayfinder a moment.

So, the errata covering clear spindle ioun stones getting kind of nerfed came out while we were in mid-play of this module. We were running with the notion that the old rules will govern our playing until the module's completion. So if that's the case, Drax will make sure his clear spindle ioun stone is well slotted in his wayfinder; if instead the revision has taken effect, Drax will activate the daily protection from evil power it has, and walk up to the statue.

Approaching cautiously, Drax makes his way to the statue, hugging the north wall, his kukris drawn. With the adamantine kukri, he tries to sever the flaming hands at the 'wrist.'

Let me know if any rolls are needed there

is the blue line I can see on the map a visible feature that PCs can see?

Well, my trigger was 'if we detect no magic, I'll go through' so if there was magic I was intending to pause to let people figure out what it was, but either way.

Drax snarls and the brief flare of pain and irritably gets out his wand, looking to Ananta.

Ananta, if you want to use my wand to help heal you up after the lifelink at any point, let me know, you've soaked a lot of damage for us this game

Drax himself feels fairly invigorated by the climb, and stands flexing and catching his breath a bit on the ledge.

"Then we should finish this quickly so you do not have to heal us anymore!" Drax says to Ananta with a heavy clap to the Iroran's scaled shoulder.

He scratches his jaw at Quarr's words. "Hmf. The usual cult stuff! All words, no action! We will bring action to them. And death. And annihilation, haha, yes! Then there will be nothing that is unknown because it will be very plain, when I cut their throats. That is very obvious. You always understand what is going on, when someone cuts a throat."

Drax nods sagely at his dispensed wisdom. "So. Let's go in. --eh, do you others have a way to check for magic? Maybe all this cult talk is really to hide a trap. They seem like cowards like that."

"I do not know, little one," Drax says as he finishes hauling himself over, panting from the strange pains the ghost left on him. "But now they are all dead. LASTWALL KNIGHT: you took my kill."

Drax glowers at Konrad a moment, then grins fiercely. "It was a mighty strike! Gorum was pleased to see it. Drax shall remember this, and fight harder, to outdo you!"

Poking at his chest where the ghost reached in to chill him, Drax makes an uncomfortable face. "Ananta, does your tonglen heal this too?"

When they are ready to continue, Drax brandishes his kukris once more. "Let us go find these cowards who hide behind the dead and the not dead! Ha!"

By my count I'm at -22, but -22 or -25 will be about the same when it comes to the healing (I assume Ananta will continue to lifelink). Happy to throw a wand charge on myself to top off, I feel like I'm just soaking up the free bandages here. ;)
