I'm not interested in multiclassing right now (though that could be a fun build for another time). The trend I'm seeing so far is to use feats to improve my crits and AoO while changing my equipment to deal with DR. Much of that is doable during our downtime.

Thanks for the advice so far. Any other advice?

Homebrew campaign.
Here's the build so far:

Human Fighter (Eldritch Guardian) LV 13

STR 20 (base 17, lvl +1, belt +2)
Dex 20 (base 17, lvl +1, racial +2)
CON 16 (base 14, belt +2)
INT 16 (base 12, headband +2, homebrew event +2)
WIS 14 (base 13, lvl +1)
CHA 10 (base 10)

HP 127 AC 32 (armor +13, dex +5, AoNA +2, RoP +2)

Feats: Two-Weapon fighting, Double Slice, Advanced Armor Training: Armor Spec (full-plate), Weapon Focus (scimitar), Improved Familiar (Brownie), Weapon Spec (scimitar), Improved Two-Weap, Blades above and below, Improved Crit (scimitar), Power Attack, Greater Two-Weap, Precise strike, Critical Focus, Master Craftsman (armor only), Craft magic arms and armor (armor only)

Class abilities: Familiar, Share Training, Steel Will, Armor Training 2 (3), Weapon Training (Heavy Blades) +3, Advanced Armor Training: Master Armorer, Advanced weapon Training: Focused Weapon (scimitar), Advanced Weapon Training: Warrior Spirit

Traits: Artisan, Armor Expert
Homebrew bonus: Silver Dragon's blessing(permanent wings (60ft fly speed) and cloudwalking)

Equimpment:
Weap: +1 Adamantine Scimitar, +1 Adamantine Scimitar (+effortless lace)
Armor: +1 Mithral Full-Plate of Speed
Other: +2 Amulet of NA, +2 Ring of Pro, +2 belt of phys might (STR, CON), +2 Headband of vast Int (spellcraft), +2 Cloak of Res, custom saddle for famliar

Familiar Equipment: +1 Adam. Agile Scimitar (w/ effortless lace) x2, +2 Bracers of armor, +2 Ring of Pro, +2 Amulet of NA, +2 Cloak of Res, +2 Belt of Dex, wand of Long Arm

Familiar homebrew items: Turtle Helm(+4 AC vs creatures larger than you), Orb of Proficiency (scimitar)

I'm looking at retraining "Blades above and Below" and "Precise strike" for Penetrating Strike and something else. We're in a plains hopping campaign and keep fighting enemies with DR. I'm already working on upgrading gear, so I'd like some suggestions for other improvements I can make.

In the Armor as DR variant rules does DR/ cold iron (e.g. from a fey creature) stack with the DR given by natural armor?

I'm wanting to add a spell to a set of existing Bracers of Armor +2. Do I use the caster level of the Bracers for the spell effects and price, or the lowest possible CL for the spell?

The spell is Long Arm, for reference.
BoA have a caster level of 7.

So, is the weight of an exotic military saddle in the CRB for a large mount? If so, what is the weight reduction? 1/2, 1/4, etc.

How much does an exotic military saddle weigh if the rider is Tiny and the mount is Medium?

Awesome. Thank you.

Order number 4901308 has been pending for a couple of months now and continues to collect more subscription items.

Order number 5139313 has been pending for 9 days now and hasn't completed.

I have made two other orders recently that have gone through just fine, but these two seem stuck.

Please help.

Yes. Yes it does. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you.

I'm making a group of NPCs that are thematically Harem Girls secretly trained as badass bodyguards but keeping up the image of "harmless harem girls".

There will be three types:
Dancing Girls(Controller) - Bladed Scarf Dancer(Magus)/Bard
Serving Girls(Support) - Bladed Scarf Dancer/Oracle
Fawning Girls(DPS/Tank) - Bladed Scarf Dancer/Fighter or Monk or Ninja

All three will be multiclassing(as shown above). I'm wondering what mix I should have in levels to accomplish the intended combat roles. They'll all have at least one level in Bladed Scarf Dancer as that is the theme.

For the Fawning Girls I'm not sure which secondary class to go with for the multiclass or if I should just go pure BSD. They are the ones who never leave the side of the one they guard and need to be the best melee combatants of the group.

I'm also wondering what Bard, Oracle, other Archetypes might blend well with the BSD.

They will all use Bladed Scarves as their main weapons(thanks Captain Obvious) and possibly other concealable weapons(at least need a decent thrown weapon for ranged, or maybe a gun). None of them will be wearing armor ever, so alternative AC boosts are necessary(they're secret bodyguards not soldiers, they're not intended for war). Supplemental gear suggestions would be most helpful.

Their skills will focus mainly on Perform(Dance), Bluff, Sense Motive and Acrobatics.

They will be at varying total levels(2,5,9,15) so I'm looking for guidelines and suggestions to follow for their varying stages of progression.

Thanks in advance.

I though so, just needed to clarify. Thanks.

Do Iterative attacks apply to any spells? For instance can a Wizard with BAB +6 cast Ray of Frost twice as a full round action as iteratives?

Cool, thnaks. Just wanted to confirm.

Can Vital Strike and Iaijutsu Strike stack? Probably not before level ten since IS is a full-round action, but does it stack when Iaijutsu Strike becomes a standard action at level 10?

Well good to know. Just wanted to try and squeeze out a little more usefulness outta Spell Focus. Thanks.

Is there a way for a Summoner to gain access to the "Cure" spells without multiclassing? I ask because you're most likely to take "Spell Focus (Conjuration)" so you might as well get everything you can out of it.

Awesome. Thanks everyone for clarifying this for me. Very very helpful.

This is for a NPC Drider for an encounter I'm building.

I'm gonna go with yes.

Cool, thanks. However the Drider stat block states "A drider casts spells as a 6th-level cleric, sorcerer, or wizard, but does not gain any other class abilities." So do the levels stack for all purposes or only for spell strength?

If I have a Drider that casts as a 6th level Cleric and I give it a few class levels in Cleric do the caster levels stack at all?

Thanks, that should be very helpful.

Ooooohh... that opens up so many possibilities, I hadn't even looked at Beastblade. That might be my new favorite option, thank you.

What is a good Magus Archetype that complements the Eldritch Guardian well? I'm not caring too much about spells, mostly wanting the "Magus Arcana" and "Arcane Pool" abilities and stackable familiar levels. So far I'm favoring the Kensai and Myrmidarch Archetypes. Are any other archetypes a good match?

Thanks for all the great suggestions so far. Lots of good ideas I hadn't considered and some I had but from a different perspective. Keep 'em coming. If I don't use the idea someone else might. Thanks again.

The Rakshasa are definitely an option, but probably not for "regular citizens." That many Rakshasa isn't quite justifiable. They could be part of a multi-racial empire though, and that might be where I go with my Evil Empire.

Not powerful enough. I'm looking for something more along the lines of the Kuo-Toa from DnD.

Are you confusing them with Lizard Folk?

Serpent Folk are essentially Yuan-Ti from 3.5

I was confusing them. They're something to consider.

Good point, Alaric. Flavor is important.

I am building a custom campaign for my home game and I want to have an OP enemy empire that the players have to either fight or avoid. I'm looking at the Drow for now but I'd like some other options. Races that have huge stat buffs or any innate abilities that give them a huge advantage are what I'm looking for. The setting is the Skyborne setting, so minor steampunk/magicpunk, floating cities, fallen empires, all land covered in a sinister semi-magic forest, and lots of glorious airships.

Thanks for the advice so far, this is very usefull.

I'm not gonna go into "all classes that work with one of the many prestige classes" because that list is too long and there are too many builds imaginable. If you have some specific class or prestige class ask away and we'll see :)

Right, let me narrow that down. How about good combos for the Shadwdancer, Pathfinder Chronicler, and any of your favorites/effective combos you know.

I'm not big on multi-classing but some of the prestige classes have some awesome abilities, so...

What are some classes that have good synergy with the Shadowdancer Prestige class?

Also, what are some other classes that work well with other prestige classes?

Ah, gothcha. Thanks.

If a character or creature has the Throw Anything feat does this negate the non-proficiency bonus of a weapon(by design) or just an improvised weapon(a chair, etc.)?

For example: A Brownie wielding a Chakram.
A chakram is a martial weapon.
A brownie does not have martial proficiency.
Does Throw Anything negate the -4 the brownie would have?

It seemed that way from what I've seen. Swift Iron Style and Startoss Style are the only ones I saw that were not highly taxed or mostly useless for me.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

What are some good style feats for a Fighter wielding a two-handed Katana, Full-Plate, and Improved Crit(Katana)? Synergy with Vital Strike is preferable unless there is a better option.

Cool! Thanks.

Let's say at level 8 I increase my INT from 11 to 12. Do I then gain any extra skill points from INT Mod +1 for the previous levels? (same question for CON and bonus HP)

Awesome! That just made my night. Thank you.

I'm building a Fighter and I was planning to go for the Heavy Blades Group as my only weapon group, as it contains great melee weapons plus the Chakrams for a ranged weapon. However, as I was reading the Advanced Weapon training options I hit upon a question...

Does the Weapon Training bonus of Heavy Blades Group apply to a thrown Chakram or does it only apply when used as a melee weapon?

Spending feats on exotic WP is usually a bad idea. Trying to switch between a bunch of different melee weapons likewise; you won't be able to keep that many magic weapons up to scratch. And if you want to use a shield rather than, say, a good two handed weapon primarily, then you want to go down the two-weapon fighting/shield bash path to make the loss of offensive ability less.

Good points. I already lose two feats for the familiar so exotic WP is out. I don't gain very much AC from a shield at start so two-handed katana crit build may be the better option. Plus that gives my familiar all the crit buffs as well. Being low level feat starved is gonna limit my choices.

Thanks for the insight.

Speaking of other questions, what are some good equipment choices to start with and to aim for in mid levels?

I was thinking start with a shield (light/heavy steel) and Breastplate/scale mail, then move to Full Plate.

For weapons I was thinking Heavy Blades like; Bastard Sword/Katana (w/exotic proficiency) depending on build (cleave or crit), Shotel against shields, Khopesh for tripping, and Chakrams for ranged. Not sure what to pick for a reach weapon if any at all. Obviously taking Quick Draw to switch between them quickly, unless that is limited to one weapon.

Going for a Tank with decent damage but not necessarily a cannon.

Any of that sound good or am I completely off base? Only melee character I've built is a Sword Saint Samurai, so my experience is limited.

Thanks for the notes. All good things to know and think on. I would think that the "Effective Wizard Level" should count. Because the Eldritch Guardian meets the prereqs for the Improved Familiar feat. Those being: "Ability to acquire a new familiar, compatible alignment, sufficiently high level". But that's a debate for another thread.

Reach was something I hadn't even though of, so thanks for that.

I also think that the Protector archetype should be alright since its new abilities all remove something other than SwA. Except for Shield Master, which removes SwA and Deliver Touch Spells. But, like you said, its up to GM approval.

Thanks for drastically narrowing down the Teamwork feats. They are a bit overwhelming at first glance.

Also very good to know that Compsognathus is a good starting familiar.

I may have a few more queries for this character and shall ask them when they arise. Thanks again all for the advice.

Hello all,
I've been wanting to build an Eldritch Defender for some time now, however I have never made any kind of character with a familiar. So I'm looking for any general advice on Eldritch Defenders and Familiars.

To be a little more specific;

-I have no set campaign to apply this character to yet, so generic advice mostly (I guess).

-I am aiming for a Brownie companion at level 5, so advice on Improved familiars would be greatly appreciated (my heart is set on a Brownie for RP purposes).

-Suggestions for possible Teamwork feats, and advice on Teamwork Feats in general.

-Advice on the Familiar Archetypes (leaning towards Protector).

-I tend to enjoy more Tanky builds or balanced offense/defense builds.

-Not looking for stats advice. Mostly feats and general advice on the class and Advanced familiars. Though useful skill point advice is appreciated (so few points, where to focus).

Thank you in advance for any advice.
