Well, I was going to play a battle cleric but I play them so often that it was somehwat annoying. Also, I would hate to get tpked because I chose not to play a cleric. I have an old school GM, who is simply not going to cut corners because the group chose classes that didn't mesh. He will put horrible traps in regardless of whether or not anyone plays a trapfinder, and he will blind us, even if we don't have a cleric. This may seem harsh to some, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Paladin was/is cool, especially since he doesn't make us play lawful stupid, but I have always and continue to think, that a Cleric eats Paladins for lunch. YMMV

LOL!!! Lots of people thinking they are "cooler than the average gamer"! I don;t discuss my roleplaying adventures with my wife (she thinks this isht is corny) and I hide all my miniatures in the closet until game-day. That being said, all groups have the negative members who take things too far- the devil worshiping rock n' roll crowd, the weird non-bathing gamers, the prejudice -/bully jock, wanna be rap gangsters, overly religous goons, etc
1)Magic needs to be nerfed or at the very least a lot of spells need to be removed. wish/miracle/time stop/ creating demiiplanes and $#!t. 2)Leadership is pure cheese. Worst thing I have ever seen in actual play. Guy shows up with 2 characters because of "Leadership", rest of the group gets jealous...2 sessions later we have a party of 10 (5*2). Then it got banned and have never seen it again....Summoner and his eidolon too 3)Rogue needs full BAB That's about it for me
My old favorite GM once said. "My world (game I run) does not center around the PCs. You are merely playing a character who exists in this world and living/creating his adventures. You might die and be a chump or you may become the greatest adventurer to ever live. I guess we will find out" That to me was the best way to describe the perfect game (personal preference obviously). Death depended on the event. Getting swallowed whole and dying was permanent, but maybe not so much a melee hit that happened to drop you to -CON
The whole summon monsters to trip traps is suspect to me If your GM caters to the world to the PCs then pretty much any class is invalid. Like my GM told me "The dragon/evil sorcerer is not going to avoid putting traps or make them lower difficulty just in case a group of adventurers who didn't want a trap finder comes along" So going through "knock" every door and summoning monsters will get you nowhere when you alert everyone to your presence and traps reset. But that's another thread
The only thing I've found to be equally reviled as an internet troll is an internet moralist...... BAck on topic: Nothing at all wrong with this scenario. As Dragon pointed out had they thought quickly, they could have simply said "I don't want her spoiled" etc. That's just a lack of wit on their part. In addition, the Paladin was chicken$#!t pure and simple. He and the rest of your team is guilty of something I see a lot in gaming- folks taking their PC way too seriously. You are supposed to play a hero. Don't be afraid to die or take a chance. Level 6 group of 5 heros vs. an overwhelming group of gnolls with only some escaped slaves to help us, hell that's what I game for baby!! I'd have tried the silent approach first and then just stood up and fought. Hell 2-3 fireballs would have dropped half of them. Epic $#!T!!!
LOL...Numbers represent your character....PERIOD. If you want to be strong put points in STR, if you want to be dashing and charismatic, add points in CHARISMA or skill focus (Diplomacy). You can write all the long winded denials and justifications you want as to why your 7 CHA fighter should be the party leader ( good role-playing, numbers don't fit my character, he just has buckteeth, etc) but in the end you are just trying to exploit the system. There's nothing wrong with exploiting the system, min/maxing, optimizing, etc. but I just hate it when people do it, and they try to deny it...Just embrace it if that's your thing.
Once again a thread based on many assumptions, but something that only happens in games where it is not effectively/realistically countered by the GM. 1)Having a summoned monster knock down every door might alert the entire dungeon to your presence. 2) Having the fighter/barbarian smash the door might expose him to large amounts of damage right before the fight. 3) Ok you detect magic, now tell me how you disarm the trap? Oh so you got dispel magic memmed like hot cakes - what are you sacrificing? 4) Wand of knock doesn't disarm the trap. What if the trap is set to spring when you enter, not when you open the door?. 5) The bard took a bunch of thief skills, so how can he move silently while performing -let me guess he inspires with his Dance (old boy got the moves like Jagger). Play the game at a table with a good GM and you will see a lot of these "theories on gaming" really aren't viable. I still think the rogue has his place. |
