Demetrio charges one of the crossbowman with a yell. He slams his staff down but the blow lands awkwardly.

Initiative Joker!
It was pure luck that saved Demetrio. He just so happened to turn just as the first crossbow bolt struck his hip. The bolt felt like a sucker punch, but didn't penetrate his armor.

"To arms! We're under attack!" he managed to yell just as the second bolt whistled past his ear. An inch the other way, and it would have embedded into his neck.

Demetrio hefted his trusty staff and searched for the attackers.

It's kind of funny that we keep expecting Mirian to be all thievy. When she's clearly a fighter, to use a class description, if you look at her character sheet.

We will once the mischief has been managed. I don't expect the snooping to take an entire shift.

Demetrio normally took the daywatch, but he wanted to give Mirian and Barnabus a chance to explore the forbidden parts of the compound. Septimilius was keeping an eye out as well.

"Well, I haven't given it an extensive amount of thought, but -- Mirian and Barnabus will infiltrate, while I stand guard. Septimilius will be lookout. He has good eyesight and is pretty good at fast-talking, when the situation requires it."

I love it when a plan comes together...

"Well, we are the only guards as far as we know. One or two of us could do some sneaking into the hidden areas while one guards and the other serves as a lookout."

After one of his guard posts, Demetrio asks the others, "I'm not the only one curious about our benefactor, am I? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a steady salary again, and I wouldn't normally want to risk it being noisy, buuuut, maybe a little peek wouldn't hurt? Right?"

SB: What I want to do is with my 366 Silver Luna, purchase Turanian Mail for 100 Silvers from the Savage Sword of Conan (p.12). And I'll be selling my leather armor from SWD for 1/2 price which would be 25 Luna.

Do I need to make a Streetwise roll to find it? If so can I recruit Mirian or Barnabas to do it for me? :-)

If this is Kosher, SB, let me know and I'll update my character sheet.

The Turanian Mail weighs 15 pounds -- the same as my leather armor -- and is a +3 Armor bonus as opposed to the +1 from current armor.

Demetrio having sated his quest for knowledge, returned to his duties as a guard with a spring in his step. In particular, he is reassured that there is little to worry about with selling the crone's eye.

"It seems it requires a ritual where you remove your eyeball," he explains to the others. "Without that it's just a meaningless curio."

I had 66 Silver Luna. If I convert the Gold to Silver, I made 300 Silver Luna. That gives me a total of 366 Silver Luna. I might buy some new armor.

He spends his time guarding the grounds and practicing his swordplay. In particular he is attempting to build some muscle so he can properly wield his new longsword.

I'm good with Mirian's suggestion on Guard duty. Once Demetrio has satisfied his curiosity about the Crone, he would be happy to take the day shift to allow his comrades more time in the city with the markets open.

Demetrio did his best to find any information on the Hag they had slain on the way over here. He was baffled to find such a being. And something about her had disturbed him. It would be easy enough to simply explain it all away as Sorcery. But something felt amiss to him. Was she a demon? Was she some sort of evil spirit gone mad?

Demetrio does his best not to roll his eyes at the need to prove his scholarly mindset. He wished he could claim that this sort of situation was foreign to him, but this wasn't the first time a centre of learning put a price on knowledge.

"I seek enlightenment, good brother. Perhaps a small tithe would help to clear my path?" Demetrio said, playing along.

OK, so what's the cost of doing business, SB?

Okay, so 75 Luna between 4 people, amounts to 18.75 Luna each. But I imagine fractions are a bit of an issue with coins. So how about you guys all take 19, and I'll take 18. I don't really need to purchase anything at the moment anyway.

My wealth goes from 53 to 71 Luna.

"We had a nice cushy job in the last two cities, Barnabas. You kept getting bored and bedded our patrons' wives. Try to avoid that this time, would you? We're running out of cities," Demetrio said affectionately despite the small reprimand.

I actually don't need to shop. But he will visit the library, and continue practicing his swordplay.

Demetrio will suggest watches. When he does sleep, he does so with a dagger tucked into his boots, and his backpack tied to his waist with a small length of rope.

He foregoes his nightly practice. It was best not to tip anyone off that he was new to swordplay. But he kept the blade on his hip, in case he needed it to look intimidating.

Demetrio grips his trusty staff, used, as always, as a walking stick. He tried to appear unassuming. Being underestimated had its advantages.

When the group finally returned to the Caravan, Demetrio explained what happened.

"There was some sort of evil sorcerer murdering travelers. It was close, but we managed to defeat it. Had we passed her by, I believe she would have ambushed us with her flock of ravens. Have you ever heard of such a thing along this road, Sefu?"

Despite all his studies, Demetrio had never heard of such a creature. And the thought disturbed him. He vowed to spend some time in the library later doing research.

I think Mirian should lead the search, unless someone has a better Notice than a d6.

Demetrio spat out a tuft of feathers that got in his mouth.

"Lovely. Just lovely," he said with a hacking cough. He looked over at the others. "Most scrolls don't cover the part where sorcerers explode into feathers."

He shook off a feather that got stuck in his sleeve.

"Probably for good reason."

Demetrio wiped the blood off his new blade before sheathing it and picking up his trusty staff. He followed Mirian.

Demetrio blinks as he watches the crone start to stitch itself back together.

"It's still alive!"

He dropped his staff and drew his beautiful new blade from its scabbard.

"Legends say that a witch's spell is broken if they lose their head," Demetrio said in a cold voice. The sword came up in a powerful, perfect arc, just they way his friends had shown him.

"Let's test that theory."

The blade came crashing down on the crone's neck.

I'm hoping this is a coup de gras, but I'll roll damage if I need to.

Barnabas, your spirit die exploded, which means you got a raise. So you can act this turn.

5 doesn't beat my toughness, even without my armor.

Demetrio grunts but isn't otherwise hurt. He swings his staff...

He finished bandaging up Septimilius and retrieved his staff. Finally, he started to look around.

"Perhaps there's another way out of here."

Survival? Tracking maybe? I have neither of these things.

"Hmm, let me think."
