You four are the only guards at the moment on duty.
If you'd like for us to recruit another player, of if you have somebody that might be interested in another game you're in, we could recruit one or two more?

Demetrio>:
You are able to find a library guard named Hurlan who agrees to "look the other way". for the day for (5) Silver Luna. You enter the grand library, taking in the gilded decor, and fine marble floors. It seems to your practiced eyes that the library is organized more for show, than for actual use. While there are a vast number of books, and scrolls, they seem to be organized by size, color, and shape more than by subject or author. If there is anything in particular you are looking for that would require an investigation success.

Mirian>:

  • You are able to find a branch of Schyler's Scrubbing Rooms near the estate. According to the amount of work you need done it's from (2) Silver Luna for a basic bath and rinse, on up to (10) Gold Luna for the "Empresses Chamber" treatment.
  • You may make a "Streetwise" roll to find a black-market buyer for the gems, or take your chances on Gem Street with one of the many buyers there.

Septimilius>:
When asking local neighbors and street people about Zheng-Ya you uncover the following facts:

  • Zheng-Ya bought the estate about 10-years ago, from a tax collector who unexplainedly left the city hurriedly. Supposedly he got a good deal.
  • He was a nice enough man, but kept to himself most of the time. When he did entertain it was mostly foreigners from different places, and they tended to come by night, stay at most a day or two then depart.
  • Children state that his place is spooky, and that sometimes at night strange voices, and lights would flash from his windows.
  • He always gave generously to any beggars or charities that approached them though he spoke little (Foreign accent).
  • Nobody has seen him in over a week, but about 3-days prior to the caravan's arrival all his servants left carrying burlap sacks over their shoulders.
  • A prying old woman does remember seeing Yetara, and Sefu in the past visiting with Zheng-Ya.

Demetrio did his best to find any information on the Hag they had slain on the way over here. He was baffled to find such a being. And something about her had disturbed him. It would be easy enough to simply explain it all away as Sorcery. But something felt amiss to him. Was she a demon? Was she some sort of evil spirit gone mad?

Empress treatment!

Mirian peruse the bath houses of Messantia choosing the fanciest she can find. She takes her time to wash the dust of the last days of travel. After a prolonged visit at the bath house the pirate hits the seedier parts of the city to sell the treasures the group found under Belthaar.

I don’t think we need another player. However if another player wants to join this game of sword and sorcery, I’d welcome him or her happily.

Septimilius gives a substantial donation to one of the Mitra temples. Thirty percent of his recent earnings. Once he returns home, he discovers that he was pick-pocketed; probably by those urchins he brushed away when he was buying a bowl of fish soup.

Demetrio>:
You are able to find a discreet reference to a similar creature called a "Swarm Crone". The one you discover was master of several swarms of rats instead of birds, but there is a statement that other varieties are thought to exist. They are created by a ritual ceremony which involves giving up one of your eyes.

Mirian>:
You have never had such treatment, and you're not sure if you're more embarrassed, relieved, satisfied or violated, but you're quite sure you've never been cleaner... or smelled like this.

Mirian:

Spoiler:

You are not familiar with the ways of Messantia, but are able to find a buyer willing to offer you 100 Gold Luna for the fine black pearl shaped like an eye, and 200 Silver Luna for the bag of jewelry.

Demetrio>:
Fell free to determine what you would have been carrying, and what was stolen. I'll give you a benny for putting yourself in this situation.

I'll give Barnabus another day to post, then move things along. I would like to know who is on watch when however.

DM:

Sold! On a side note, Mirian comes from Messantia, so she should be somewhat familiar with the city :)

It was more the price and high standard than anything else that drew Mirian to the bath house and afterward she's not sure what to feel. Is this what the high end crowd spend their riches on? I'd take a few flasks of wine any day.

When she arrives back from her expedition she pours the gold and silver coins onto a table. "Good news! I've sold both the Belthaar jewels and the crone's eye. All and all 25 gold and 50 silver each. Cheer up Septimilius and buy yourself something nice!"

How should we sort the guard duties? One guard at the gate in four/six/eight hour shifts during the day and then two guards during the evening/night? One to guard the gate and then one to do an occasional patrol?

@DM: How big is the complex we're guarding?

Demetrio having sated his quest for knowledge, returned to his duties as a guard with a spring in his step. In particular, he is reassured that there is little to worry about with selling the crone's eye.

"It seems it requires a ritual where you remove your eyeball," he explains to the others. "Without that it's just a meaningless curio."

I had 66 Silver Luna. If I convert the Gold to Silver, I made 300 Silver Luna. That gives me a total of 366 Silver Luna. I might buy some new armor.

He spends his time guarding the grounds and practicing his swordplay. In particular he is attempting to build some muscle so he can properly wield his new longsword.

Apologies, been quite busy lately....

At Mirian's return with treasure, he crows "Ah! The spoils! You make my heart sing, Mirian!" gathering her up and spinning her around the room - if she allows it that is.

Calming down, he listens to Demetrio's account of the nature of the crow witch. "Interesting..." he mutters, before bending once more over his lute, plucking the strings, seeking another melody.

Later, Barnabas ventures out and makes a discreet introduction to the local thieve's guild, not wanting to step on any toes while in Messantia.

Septimilius gave 7 luna to the temple. The pickpocket urchins took him for six luna.

He also had to have his boots resoled. The soles were slowly separating at the forefoot. Each day the gap grew as he patrolled the estate (manor?). During his off-hours he found a cobbler and had his boots repaired. Not sure the cost of this.

Since he has the poverty hinderance, I think a good way to reduce his available cash is by having him replace gear very often. Little things that add up. Plus giving generously to temples, maybe orphanages, hospitals, and the like. I don’t want him to be a gambler though. He’s too cautious (another hinderance) for that.

Mirian>: The house backs up to an alley in the back. The courtyard extends the width of the house (About 75', and about 100' to the street and main gate). There is a stable, a garden, a well, and the servants quarters against the outside walls of the manor. One really attentive person can guard the estate from the front, but won't be able to determine anything inside.

Demetrio>: You spend time practicing with the sword, and feel that you're really making progress. In your spare time you work with a sketch, trying to determine what you'd like in your armor. In fact you are able to talk Barnabus into taking some measurements for you with a piece of cord.

Barnabus>: You find it very frustrating trying to find a contact with the thieves guild. Either they are very selective, or very suspicious. (After the beggar battle they know of you all). Finally you head home after a long unfruitful night. As you prepare for sleep you realize there is something in your pocket.

Spoiler:

This is a small chit of wood with a dark green shadow figure engraved on it. There is also a single word "Stowaway".

Septimilius>: The weather here seems to disagree with your equipment, as it seems that just as you get one piece repaired another breaks. Seems you can never get ahead. Then you got a boil on the back of your right hand that had to be lanced.... sigh. NOTE: That you can spend XP to remove a hindrance if you so choose.

I'm out of the country on business till the weekend, but can post most nights. I'll move the plot along this weekend and be ready for the next chapter next week, so if there is something you'd like to follow up on feel free to take care of it between now and next week.

So, just a quick summary so I'm up to date. In the evening Demetrio suggests that we investigate the main building. Mirian and Barnabas will try to break in while Demetrio stand guard and Septimilus acts as a look out. Then Demetrio will be the night watchman. And Septimilus as well as we said two guards at night (right?). Is that correct?

"Well, no time like the present. I'm guessing that our host have gone to bed at this hour. Barnabas, can you pick a lock?"

Initiative: nine of hearts
Parry: 8, Toughness: 6 (1)
Effects:

Ready to throw herself into the melee Mirian’s shoulders slump when she hears the scuffle inside the house. ”Keep them occupied. The Greyfeather will join you shortly”, she proclaims and walks to the door. ”Who’s inside? The Greyfeather demands to know!”

As far as we know the door to the manor is locked, right? Are there any other ways in? What Mirian would like to do is break a window or shutter, jump inside and confront whomever’s there. What

Current map Raven Town Map God Infinity........

The servants had already deserted the house. You're staying in their quarters. As far as you know Sefu, The Master, and the Girl are the only residents of the house at the moment. The only entrances to the outside all open into the courtyard.

You hear Sefu's voice from inside... "Whose inside? A better question is who is outside? What is all the noise" You hear the bolt being thrown.

Free spirited pirate

Oh, then I missunderstood. I thought the banging was an indication that someone except for Sefu was inside and ambushing our employer. If that door is closed I would like to run and attack.

Secure with the knowledge that her employer is safe and her reputation as a protector is unblemished Mirian launches forward to engage the intruders.

Since you weren't sure what the noise from inside the house was I'm going to rule that you only get one of your attacks this round.

Another steps up to her, and swings his scimitar, the gleam of poison evident on it's curved blade.

But she dodges aside at the last moment.

Another of the attackers swings at Barnabus (Obviously they want in the house).
