HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

that's all still out of range of my stuff. I'll keep readying for when any enemy is inside 60 feet or so.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Is there a map for this? I'm a bit fuzzy on the distances we're currently talking about, as well as whether we are in combat rounds while the ballistas are trading shots.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

If I went down to the engine room, could I get our boat to move faster or maneuver better for a bit?

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian enjoyed locking away his former captors, stripping them of all their possessions just as they had done to him.

When he came back up on deck he was surprised to find a fight starting. He grinned. Today was a good day.

He found a spot to take cover and drew one of his heavy throwing spikes, waiting.

Taking cover. Readied action to throw. Waiting until they get within 40 feet.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

I don't seem to be on the initiative list.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian's face slowly curved into a vindictive grin. "Yes. Yes there is. This way," he said, leading the rough looking warrior and his prisoners down to the holding cells.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Darian. Former prisoner of these jackholes. Not your enemy," the big man following Seps said simply.

He was wearing thick leather armor covered in pyramid shaped studs, and a wicked looking hammer-backed axe rested on his shoulder.

If this were a movie, Darian would be played by Dwayne Johnson. That should give you a pretty good idea of what he looks like and what to expect as far as his personality goes.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"If you're going after the Captain, I'm going with you," the newcomer, who was still stepping on the fat man's head, spoke up. "I have a reckoning I intend to satisfy."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Right, can't call him fat, but threatening him is fine." Darian chuckled. Then his smile vanished. "Afraid I'm not going anywhere, quietly or otherwise, Seps. I don't care what you do with the ship or the a!&!~&%s who were piloting it, but I'm not being taken prisoner again. Not without a fight."

He rested a very large axe on his spike-studded shoulder.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Name's Darian." the tall newcomer said, putting his boot on the fat man's head to keep him from getting up. "I was a prisoner of Fatso here and his pals. Thanks for giving me the distraction I needed to get free. Who are you?"

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Is Fatso aware of Darian? I hadn't revealed myself yet and I was trying to stay Stealthed. That might mean he's Flat Footted to me and can't make an Acro past.

If Fatso is unaware of Darian:

Trip AoO vs Flat Footed: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Darian stepped out of the shadows and swung his foot into the fat man's shins.

"Did you forget about me, Lunchbox? I warned you what would happen if you put your hands on my stuff."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Downstairs, Darian tried to get into a position to listen, and perhaps see what was going on up top.

Which of these guys is responsible for putting Darian in the cage?

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

I've moved myself on the map.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian took a moment to secure his gear and then found a place to hunker down and listen.

Finding a place to Stealth, and trying to listen.

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

It had taken Darian a while to make some makeshift picks out of odds and ends squirreled away. He'd already unlocked the door and locked it again a few times, just to be sure he could do it quickly. After that it was just a matter of waiting for the right moment to escape.

From the sound of things, now was that time.

It took him only moments to pop the lock and start to move.

Do you want me to roll the Disable device check, or are we going to move forward with the scene? Should I be taking an actual action this round?

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

I'll have to thank them.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

I hear you folks are in need of a good engineer?

Crossing my fingers.

"Do not piss off the mechanic."

Imagine a cross between Laura Croft and Leonardo DaVinci played by The Rock. That's Darian.

In terms of Party Role, Darian fills the rogue/scout position. He breaks locks, finds traps, sneaks, and has buckets of skills.

He can also give any fighter or barbarian a run for their money in the frontline department. He's a bit of a glass cannon though (low AC and moderate HP), so he's not really suited to being the party meat shield. That said, he can move. His battlefield mobility is top notch, and he can put the hurt on someone . He's a switch hitter who's equally effective at range or up close, and he has an entertaining knack for being able to toss enemies around if they try to move past him.

Mechanically, Darian is an Armiger, which is a class that specializes in building and modifying specialty weapons and quickly switching between them. he also has a bunch of craft skills, so he's well suited to the role of "ship's engineer" or something similar.

As for me, I'm a veteran of the boards. I'm in it for the long haul in ever game I sign up for. I post reliably, and I do my best to make sure that my posts move the story forward, or engage other players. Or both. If you pick me I won't disappoint you.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"There's some people who have gone missing. We've been hired to find them. We heard they might be here. Mind if we look around?" Darian asked in a friendly tone.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Something like that." Darian said cheerfully. "We're looking for some folks. Open up, we'll talk."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Torch is my home town. I should probably stop in and tell the family I'm out of jail. I'll introduce you. Val will love Gur." Darian said. "Then we can talk to the priest and see if they have any specifics we should know about."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Wait, Gur is a lion?" Darian said taking an involuntary step back when the big cat came out of the shadows when Shiras called him.

he looked back and forth between the pair. "How the hell did that happen? Please tell me you pulled a thorn out of his paw..."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Big money sounds good. What's a gur?"

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Oh, so you've met them." Darian grinned.

He ordered drinks and asked Shiras "What else can you tell us?"

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Fritz, this is Shiras. Shiras, this ner-do-well is Fritz." Darian said as introduction.

"Shiras has a job for us. Busting up Kuthonites."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian nodded his agreement. "Shoulda just led with that. Yeah, I'm in."

He looked around at the cell. "Once we're out, anyway."

Cut to tavern and meeting with Fritz?

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian's eyes widened. He wasn't expecting that kind of ferocity from a cute little... mouse... person.

"Well, I think the god in question probably does matter. Cults can be bad, but the flavor of bad is going to depend a lot on what they believe. A cult dedicated to Geryon is going to be a whole hell of a lot worse for the world than a cult of Arshea, you know?"

"I'm not going to say you're wrong. Sounds like this is pretty personal. I'd just like to know a little more before I agree to walk into a bunch of peoples' home and start putting them to the sword."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Oh. Oops. Uh, pulling something out of my butt to make this make sense-

Val and I went to the city for something for Konnir. I got into a fight or something and got locked up. Val finished our business and is going home without me. Done!

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Bye, Val. Tell Konnir I'll see him in a few days." Darain waved goodbye. She'd come by to bring him some lunch and berate him about being locked up again.

She grinned over her shoulder and threw up a rude gesture as the guards watched her hips swaying out the door. Darian thought about saying something about the guards' roving eyes, but he decided not to. Val was pretty and the guards were pretty harmless. Let 'em look. He knew she'd speak up if they got out of line.

He sat back down on the too-small bed and handed half of the sandwich Val had brought to his furry cell-mate.

"So, what were you saying before she came? Sounded interesting."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Oh, good call. :)

Jail talk, someone mentions a big score, plans are hatched. Darian says "I know a guy on the outside who's crazy enough to go with us."

Cut to while later, the three of us in a tavern...

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

SO this one shot is happening before the beginning of the Iron Gods AP? A prequel?

Darian and Fritz might be hired muscle. Shiras could be the one with the contract and is looking for some sub-contractors.

I can't speak for Fritz, but Darian wouldn't care that Shiras is a ratfolk.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Sounds good.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Checking in here again. Is there anything we can do to help build some momentum?

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Checking in.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

GET OVER HERE!

Now get over THERE!

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

I have an idea for eventually using a reach weapon with the Lancer sphere and Hamatula Strike to range-grapple people and yank them over to me.

If I take Hard Whip I'll be able to yank them to me and then toss them to you, all as an AoO.

Scorpion tag-teamed with Zangief. :)

This is amazing and I know exactly what my plan is now. I'm literally playing a wrestling guy, and I'm 100% picking abilities based entirely on 'Is this awesome, yes/no?'

It sounds like we have very similar concepts (I'm subbing the chainsaw for guns).

Instead of thinking about it like we are overlapping, what do you think about a tag-team? There's some fun potential there. We might even be able to tie our backstories together.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Sure, that sounds fine to me.

I realized I didn't need the Technic League angle to have an unethical orphanage funneling kids into factories as child labor so I just dropped that angle.

Darian is definitely a kleptomaniac, but he tries his best to avoid getting into fights. He attracts trouble like crazy though, so even though he tries not to throw the first punch he often ends up having to throw the last one.

I'm basing the character's flavor heavily off of Dwayne Johnson in The Rundown, so that should give you an idea of his personality and approach to things.

Reposting this question here-

Alright. Is there any other ethically-challenged company or organization in the area that would? The Aspis Consortium maybe? Or any other organization that is ties to the story as villains?

I think Customized Weapons should grant 2 talents at 1st level, +1 per odd level. It's normal proficient talent progression becomes 1 talent each level.

Alright, I'll add those now. Thank you.

Here's my character. I think he's pretty much ready to go. Let me know if I've done anything wrong regarding the Spheres rules.

I'm not sure how Armigers interact with your house rules on extra talents. Normally they don't start with any talents (except the ones granted by their martial tradition), but they get three talents that are specific to their special weapons.

Loric, it doesn't quite look/work the way you think it does. That might be my fault.

Just in case anyone else is confused about the layout, here's what has been revealed so far-

Imagine looking at a Screw with three nuts on it. Those nuts are slowly rotating down (those are the three floors)

There are six rods coming in from the sides. These rods could be used to block the floors from falling to far, or to brace against, giving someone a point of leverage to walk the opposite direction of the rotations and raise the floors (think like the Great Wheel at the beginning of the old Conan, except Arnie's staying in one place and the floor is moving beneath his feet)

If three (or more) people can raise the floors up enough, a few others could try to figure out how to retrieve the idol.

Any questions? You guys are almost there.

"Guess that's my cue to get back to work. Thanks for giving me an excuse to take a break." Darian says, turning back toward the gates with a grin.

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Well, I wouldn't eat it, bu there's folks around here that do. They're what we use to keep things clean around here. They tend to eat stuff nothing else will. The Green Tower came up with them about ten years ago, basically a small version of a strange kind of scavenger we ran across somewhere off-city. They altered them to process waste cleanly and cranked up their metabolism so they need to eat all the time."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Joboo grabbed one of the squirming creatures with a toothy grin. It struggled but had no real hope of escaping once the goblin had it.

Darian raised an eyebrow as the goblin ran over to grab a bag, still holding the tiny creature in one hand.

"Decided to keep an Otyutyke, Joboo?"

In case you're curious, Joboo has a Diminutive One of These

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Joboo, what are you trying to catch it with? Give me a couple touch attacks

"Gwrr, around here strange things happen a few times a day. Usually they aren't too dangerous, but there's portals on this street that open straight to the Abyss. Every shopper and merchant knows the risks. They stay because it's worth it to them."

Putting the bag on the ground he smiles.

"Speaking of which, part of Arch Law is a certain flexible "spoils clause" that applies to Citizens and Sponsored Immigrants. Being Academy students, you all count. The appraisers set aside unclaimed goods as spoils, and the Jury squad that responded encouraged the merchants not to claim everything they could have as a bit of a thank you. Since gifts are taxable, but spoils arent, they were generous.

The bag was full of smaller bags which Darian began tossing out to the new students.

"Not sure what's in them, but they should be labeled."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

"Oh. Well, we managed to capture the Grey and the Black. Trials tend to be quick around here. I'll try to keep you posted about it. Maybe I can get you in to watch the sentencing. To be fair though, I've seen a lot of things but I've never seen a glass mustache. Pretty unique."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian looks at Lorth with concern and confusion. "Recompense? You could use a bath for sure, but it doesn't look like you lost a limb or anything. They're Slaad. Agents of chaos. I don't know if they'd agree to an honor dual."

HP 36/36, AC 17, Fort +7, Ref +7, Will +5, Perception +8

Darian made his way back to them with an amused grin on his face and a sizable sack over his shoulder.

"Just can't seem to keep out of trouble, can you?" He laughed as a a cleric poured healing energies over the group of them.
