Ok...looks like I got my 5 people!! Thanks for applying. For anyone else still interested, please drop by as I would like to get together another group or 4-5 people for another "live" character building.

For this round, I have:

Oceanshieldwolf
scranford
Albion
Black Dow
Helaman

On for the next group I have, so far:

Dejoker
Evindyl
LDDragon
Andostre

Thanks all who are interested!! I hope it works out ok. I will get back to the second group once the first has gone through and any suggestions/problems have been worked out.

For the first group, please report to the Discussion board. We can start with whoever is available and as you become free, we can work on your backgrounds.

Thats the one...I love the style of Traveller character generation and having something similar to it for D&D sounds very interesting. I have run a few for myself and now want to see how the process works in an actual game atmosphere.

Looking for 4 or 5 people to try out a new system of character generation. Call the Lifepath Backgrounds, by Tim Cox, is an attempt at adding a richer character background, including advantages and disadvantages, in much the same way as the RPG Traveller creates its characters.

I will be using D&D (Olde Sword Reigns) as the base game and if we decide to run a short adventure with our newly made characters, it will be based in the World of Blackmarsh.

Does this sound interesting to anyone...let me know and we can try out this new method of character creation!!

Calhoun steps back and loosens his sword in its sheath.

In a calm, even tone he confronts Slygol.

"How dare you threaten a holy man in his own temple. Replace that weapon back into its sheath and step back, or I will be forced to thrash you for such blasphemous actions. "

Not taking his eyes off their newly acquired "friend", Calhoun speaks to the priest.

"I am sorry your holiness. This man is not known to us and does not speak for us and if he does not listen will not be leaving the cellar with us!"

OK, how does this sound...

Returning to the city after his battle with the demon apes, Kugu is almost immediately set upon by thieves. Mongo just happened to be wandering by and saw this crime and saw how the little 'froggie' was hurt and being attacked by 3 thieves, decided to step in and even the score. While wiping up the street with the criminals, Nbazi wanders in and decides to help the wounded grippli, and Mongo follows along to make sure his new buddy is going to be OK.

I would love to get a chance to play this game. I had made a cleric some time ago, but we barely finished the first adventure. Was thinking of perhaps a rogue or sorcerer character...I will roll and see what kind of stats I can work with!!

Thank you all for your words of support. I really like the idea of Ah-Rekhmire and would like to continue to play him, but will need some help when I make silly errors!!

As to leveling up, I will need some guidance as to what I can and cannot do. I was thinking of making a few changes, but I also would like to hear what the rest of you might think...

Ah-Rekhmire bristles at the authority in the voice and it DEMANDING that he enter the ship....on the other hand, as he scans the sky for enemy vessels he realizes that he does not know this new enemy well and maybe the voice does.

Floating into the craft, standing straight with his chin up, the decaying corpse settles into a chair, looks around at the others and confidently states;

"I have decided to ride within this ship!"

The bright blue bolts which flew from the ancient magicians' hands strike the two drones. The first simply seems to melt, then short circuit and crumble to the ground. The one by the door spits sparks and part of its casing melts, but it still stands.

For me, it is nostalgia. This is the system I played for over a decade! I played the weak wizard with only 1 spell...and the strong, yet dumb fighter. When the PHG came out my group was in awe of the paladin and ranger...and the bard was a class almost legendary in scope.
So much fun was had during those games, and we did not worry about skills or powers, but more about the game and trying new and wonderfully outrageous ways to stay alive.

Now don't get me wrong, I really loved the 3rd edition and now the 5th. Pathfinder kept us going through the 4th edition years, and now so many new games abound, but for me, Old School D&D and AD&D will always hold a special place in my heart! That is why I chose to play OSR whenever I can!!

Just my 2cp

"That sounds wonderful! I will have the same, and as your penance for last night, you can pay for breakfast for us all as a tithe to the church for the praying I am going to have to do to remove this recent stain upon your immortal soul!

Brother Theodor takes his wooden holy symbol out and begins to pray for Raff and earnestly asks forgiveness for his sinful ways.

I was looking around for an image of the holy symbol of the One True God, but could not locate one. Therefore, I propose the following...

Clavis Cross

the key at the bottom is specific to the Clavists, or the Mendicant Order of Saint Keye the Chronicler. I would propose that all the sects use the main symbol and then have their group's specific emblem placed somewhere within the cross.

The distant sounds of revelry and the heavy breathing of your companions are the only sound you now hear in the old woman's home.

"I thank you fer coming and helping an old woman. You can call me Bethel;. Those beasts were almost the death of me! I thought I heard something down in the basement!"

While a little unsteady on her feet, the woman is uninjured, just shook up.

Yes, it was good fortune that you were in the area. Ah, I see you are auxiliaries. Jolly good show! I am Corporal Jack Derrigan of the Corvis City Watch, and I am afraid this is not over yet. As I was holding off those two bastards, pardon my language ma'am, I could see another trying to push its way up through the trap door to the basement. If you listen you can hear them down there...rooting around and fighting and stuff. We, and by that I mean you, will need to go down and clear them out. I will take Bethel with me to the watch house for her safety. Report back once you are through."

As he turns to go and usher the old lady out, he turns and removes his gunbelt, holding the weapon out to the party.

"I see you all are only armed with batons. Take my pistol and powder. It's not much but several shots might make the difference between scaring the vermin off or having them swarm you! I want it back! I am responsible for it."

Vicky returns the thought to Nevitash
"I will be fine Lieutenant. I will straighten out this Major and soon we can be on our way!"

The party is taken to a large barracks and given bunks to rest. They are warned that dinner will be soon, and if they miss it, there is nothing until breakfast. A few short hours pass before all the troops are called for mess. While somewhat bland, the food is hot and there is plenty of it.

After dinner, as darkness spreads across the city, you are taken to a corner of the drill square and your sergeant is there waiting for you.

As you approach, Sergeant Addy begins barking orders.
“All right, you lot, fall in! As auxiliary members of the Corvis City Watch, you’ve been assigned this neighborhood as your beat.”

She gestures to the unremarkable slice of Corvis wedged between the industrial sector and the Northern Graveyard.

“Your job is to patrol it from sunset to sunup. We’ve heard rumors of gang activity, so keep your eyes peeled for suspicious behavior. If you see anything out of the ordinary, report back to me. And for Morrow’s sake, try not to kill anyone who isn’t trying to kill you back! It’ll be your heads, but my headache.”

After she finishes her questionably inspirational speech, the sergeant issues each member of the party a straight wooden club and a copper badge identifying the character as a deputy of the watch. Once that’s done, she heads off to give another group of recruits their orders, but not before urging the characters once more to stay on their toes and to follow the orders of any full-fledged watch members they run into.
