Sadly, it appears that I am too late to make a submission.

Ready.

Yorinaga takes his men further up the road and to the East towards the sound of the riders but not too far as they will not be reached by Ran-Tan-Kani's squad in a moments notice.

Yorinaga gestures to the remaining four, "You are in luck... you get the first opportunity to spill the blood of the lawless. Form-up! Spears, forward!" Yorinaga arms his daikyu.

He gestures to Ran-Tan-Kani, "Bring up your squad when I call for you."

His impassive face betraying nothing, "Domo. I do not wish to hog all the glory. There is more than enough for everyone."

Pep talk.

"Let's organize ourselves into two squads. Ran-Tan-Kani, you take command of the other squad. Our tactics will be simple. One squad engages. The other supports. The first squad disengages and moves past the second squad. The second squad holds off the bandits, as the first squad reforms further down the road. And so on. Is that clear to everyone?"

Eyeing the warriors before, Yorinaga could only think that it could be worse.

"As we shall be comrade in arms, it is but proper that you know my name and for me to know yours. My name is Yorinaga."

Yorinaga waits for the others to give their names.

looking at the mura map here

"Where is the main road of the mura? That is where we can expect the bandits to pass through."

Yorinaga confidently says, "It does not matter how many these bandits are for we shall crush them. They are bullies and cannot stand against determined resistance."

Yorinaga then takes a moment to inspect the villagers and their armaments.

Now that I have their attention, I must take the initiative.

"People, calm yourselves. Now, women and children go to Gobo's, that the largest building in the village. Stay there. The rest of the men get whatever weapon that you have, quickly. What you do today, now, will echo in eternity."

Yorinaga's impassive face betray nary a hint of the turmoil he is feeling inside.

"Know that as I speak to you that these bandits ride here to their doom... for you shall be the instument of their chastisement. They shall feel the rapture of your justice. And they shall know that they are less than men."

These villagers might have some spine after all.

"Oochai-san, if you can, move to a vantage point where you can cover most of the area."

Yorinaga then smoothly moves out of Gobo's house. He calmly strides to square and in a loud booming voice he shouts, "Silence!"

Celestial Dragon, what check you need?

It's really going to be very difficult to minimize casualties if the villagers are milling around the square like that. Oh well, that's life.

Yorinaga could only shake his head as he heard the word "Bandits." He unlimbers his daikyu and says, "They are bandits after all and do not deserve the honor of steel. Mamoru, Oochai, prepare yourselves."

Celestial Dragon, can we see the bandit riders from the house of Gobo?

Mamoru wrote:

GObo-san had better get a move on, or he's likely to come back and find that a certain hyper-active Ninja has rearranged his home while he was out!

;P

Rearranging furniture, hiding the remote, hurting the dog, those acts fall under "Evil 101."

"Gobo-san, perhaps you can invite those holy men and the outlander you. His Excellency ooChai is keen on hearing interesting stories."

Yorinaga laughs, "Thank you, Mamoru-san for putting into plain speech what I wanted to say," nudging Gobo, "Anyways, Gobo-san, those of the Black Temple would think twice before doing anything foolish now that there are witnesses who can carry news of their perfidy to the authorities, neh."

"Gobo-san, you're village is an attractive price to any bandit who might have a mind to swagger in and take it. These men of the Black Temple will surely come for the harvest. And your women." Yorinaga declared ominously as he gives voice to his suspicions and stares into the eyes of Gobo.

"Gobo-san, word of this should not reach the others or it will cause panic and then there would be no hope."

Yorinaga mentally sighes his exasperation as he watches ooChai perform his usual facial excavation. To distract Gobo-san, he asks, "As headman, you know the population of your mura, of course. How many able bodied men do you have here?"

I see. These men of the Black Temple could be arriving here at anytime.

Yorinaga nods at Gobo's words.

Yorinaga assists ooChai on his seating. Then he turns to Gobo-san, "The Black Temple? This is the first time I have heard of this group. Have you reported this matter to your jito, Gobo-san?"

"Anyways, can you describe how they were armed? For that matter when is the next harvest? His excellency is curious."

As Gobo walk to his home, Yorinaga takes a moment to observe the monks and the Korobokoru. He dismisses them as threats and then swaggers after Gobo while taking the bodyguard position besides ooChai.

Yorinaga moves closer to Gobo and whispers, "Your people seem to be a timid lot. They're not used to strangers. How often does your daimyo send patrols to your village?"

"Gobo-san, you would do your house greater honor by telling his lordship of what you know of those people up ahead. His lordship is a curious man and I am sure that he would be more than happy to relay his lordship's appreciation to your jito."

Yorinaga turns and winks at ooChai conspiratorially.

"Gobo-san, discretion is what his lordship expects," though Yorinaga wants to smile to lighten the mood, unfortunately the damaged nerves of his face, the result of a childhood sickness, prevents him from doing so. Hence, his face remains a perpertual scowl.

"And there is no need for you to sleep in the stables...discretion will not be served by you sleeping there, if you take my meaning," Yorinaga looked at Gobo.

"Gobo-san, the His Excellency ooChai is not ungenerous to those who extend to him any courtesy his way." Yorinaga casually jingle his money point to emphasize the point. "The shelter please before we are drenched."

I do hope this Bluff Check comes with additional circumstance bonuses, otherwise I'm flat on my face. Help!

Looking the man straight in the eye, "In behalf of the Honorable ooChai, good day to you, Gobo-san. The rains are coming and we need shelter. Show us."

Yorinaga maintains his grip on his sword to emphasize to Gobo-san his status as a samurai. This Gobo-san is obviously a peasant. No swords. Yorinaga turns to ooChai and Mamoru and makes a hand gesture towards his eye suggesting that they should keep their eyes open.

For the Celestial Dragon

Spoiler:

I don't know if the samurai in Kara-tur have the prerogative to test the edge of their swords on peasants, please confirm. Thanks.
Read too many lone wolf and cub... I guess.

Bowing to ooChai, "Hai, dono."

I then take up a bodyguard position slightly behind of ooChai, my right hand near the hilt of my katana.

Yorinaga whispers, "Remember that I am just a ronin. Tis best that our enemies remain ignorant of our presence."

"Mamoru-san, I have complete trust in your abilities...hang back and shadow me and ooChai-san. Note any interest that may be directed at us."

"ooChai-san, I am just a bodyguard that you hired...so I sleep outside your room."

"Remember your roles and we may be able to reach my uncle's estate alive and well. Now, let's see to our lodgings for the night before we get caught in the rain."

Yorinaga pauses and turns to Mamoru and ooChai: "AND NO BOWING IN MY DIRECTION."

Ready here, too.

Thank you for the update. It seems that Yorinaga is off to the estate of Uncle Razan.

Hope my resources is sufficient to maintain my retainers.

With the exception of the remaining cash, Daidoji Yorinaga is ready.

Can anyone tell me the cost of lamellar armor?

"Hail, Ran-Tan Kani. Perhaps, you can allow me to show you why our goals follow the same path?"
