Sorry to hear the news for this game, but completely understand. Need the GM to run the game with joy.

I cannot decline a 5e game from a good GM! And would prefer Midgard, because of my familiarity, too.

I'd also love a PM description of how this campaign would play out.

cheers

Coronus appears clearly conflicted (despite the player asking for this event).

Standing between the two groups, he looks back and forth from the centaurs to the Chosen One. "Lysander, Mateo, Aristeides, can you release me from my Oath of Fellowship? Such that I can follow my heart and faith to spread the word of Chiron. Perhaps, Chiron can wrestle the majority of the centaurs from the grip of Sydon."

Coronus approaches the two centaurs amazed at the amount of risk and effort it would have taken them to descend the cliff without two-legged help. "Hirak, my friend. What's wrong? What returns you here?"

Hirak:
"Yes, Chiron was the First Centaur and sired our race. I'm proof that he answers prayers saving your life was one of them. Pray to him. Chiron will heed your calls if you have faith."

"When the time is right, show your tribe that there is an alternative to Sydon. A divine patron who actually listens and provides solace and grace. Until then, I will do what I can for you." Coronus shares his ritual of prayers and traditions with Hirak that he learned from his father.

Before Hukar can depart, Coronus politely interupts, "My chief, perhaps there is a god who you are over-looking. Chiron is the First Centaur and answers my prayers, like saving Hirak's life. He is the god of centaurs and will answer your prayers too if you have faith."

Coronus raises his hand to bless the tribe, "Let Chiron's Blessings of Life's Battle be with you."

Cast Guidance on Hukar, unless a demonstration of Thaumaturgy would be received better.

After the tribe has thundered off, he turns to the companions, Coronus suggests, "Down that damned cliff again. It was so much the first time, I want more."

Yes, long rest. Yes, take the brand

Coronus accepts the brand to join the tribe. While he does not put down the tribe's loyalty to Sydon, he makes a point that Hirak was directly saved by the grace of Chiron. And that Chiron guides Coronus as the First Centaur.

At the feast, he makes a sacrifice to Chiron offering any of the tribe to join him to celebrate the recovery of their kin.

"If more creatures can come from further in the caverns, we should all escape together. You will need my companions support to climb the stairs anyway."

"Do you know of Grli or Nossin? Hulak specifically asked about them." Coronus helps Hirak to his hooves and slowly starts hobbling toward the exit.

@GM You mentioned Grli or Nossin in your original post

While I would love another attack, because your insane dice-roller results, I just want to double check something.

In 5e, AOO are only triggered when creatures leave threatened areas. AOO are NOT triggered by moving within a threatened area, unlike Pathfinder.

So, should Coronus still get an AOO?

Quote:
The other four Trogs look at each other and begin to move forward. Everyone is in "Close" range now except Coronus, Deimus, and Aristiedes who are at "Near".

I understand the idea to use ranges of close and near without maps and theater of the imagination. However, I'm not clear how far away Coronus is from the melee.

Coronus moves 40 feet, so he can easily outpace his two-legged companions.

He can move the Spiritual Weapon 20 feet per round at a range of 60 feet.

At the end of the last combat, he had 7 rounds left. Meaning, if the cavern mouth was 60 feet away, then Spiritual Weapon would have been at the cavern mouth at after the 3 rounds that you started the last combat. However, if the new encounter was further than 100 feet away, he would have left the Spiritual Weapon, because he would have to spend too much time pulling into combat. But, it was never clear that that was an issue.

I thought that I was clear that Coronus who was the first to hear the cries (and knowing that there were potential centaur prisoners) that we was moving quickly to engage. He was only keeping the Spiritual Weapon if it would be useful.

Considering the math of the Spiritual Weapon, I could have been more clear if the distances were clearer, so I tried to articulate that in my post.

Would greatly appreciate clarity before I post the next round. I'm totally alright abandoning the SW if everyone outpaces it to start the combat.

cheers

"Yes, truly amazing. And fortunately Kentimane the Elder Titan remains dormant." The centaur marvels at the scenery. Nothing like this in the Heartlands or the Great Plains.

He looks at the trail as it ascends into the mist. "Uh, yes, Mateo. I've some rope here too. Those rocky stairs were not made for four legs."

Coronus takes the horn and nods, "Hopefully, we will find your kin alive."

After they leave, he nods to the scholar and starts moving toward the Forge again.

Coronus confidently stands his ground as they approach and circle. No one would win a conflict here. While the centaurs outnumber them, the Fellowship travels with a god and a demigod. So the centaurs might think that they have the upper hand, even if they might not. Need to take a middle path of equals.

"We are traveling together to the Mithral Forge as tasked by the gods. Do you have time to escort us?"

After departing the city, Coronus was able to breathe again. Deep breaths of the scents floating on the wind that relaxed and invigorated him. Estoria was not built for the size of centaurs in the streets, buildings and rooms. And the scent was atrocious. But that was behind him.

He carried on with his daily routine prayers, but his faith was shaken. Who heard his prayers? Who granted him divine powers? Was he a pawn of Sydon who clearly was the most ruthless and conniving of the divinity? The only comfort was habit and traditions that reminded him of his parents and family who were lost. And his ancestors who had achieved greatness.

Seeing the band of centaurs approaching, he had no idea who they were. He didn't recognize their colors, their pikes, or who ranged this southern border of the Heartlands.

He nodded at Mateo's comment and stepped forward ahead of Lysander to speak for the Fellowship. He readied his shield emblazoned with the mark of Chiron, Sydon's lidless eye with the tail of a comet. And, he rested his hand on the handle of his sheathed sword. He blessed himself and the fellowship with the guidance of Chiron.

What would Coronus know of the centaurs by their colors, weapons and/or area of hunting?

The centaur's second thoughts confirmed his initial thoughts that the dwarves would NOT be good to fight and only be good to move into the Forge AFTER the Fellowship cleared the threat.

Coronus absorbs Kyrah's statement with a quizzical look on his face and repeats, "The DRAGONLORDS were the Order of the Gods? The Dragonlords WERE the Order of the Gods?" The thought apparently did not taste well in his mouth.

"So Kyrah, you're telling us that the gods had to IMPORT talent from beyond Thylea to defeat Sydon and the titans? Well, it worked for 500 years. You cannot argue with results." The centaur shrugged and took a long drought of mead.

"At least you are recruiting LOCAL talent this time, such as it is, so there's a hope to break the racial divide of the land. And why we need a new Order of the Gods, call it what you want, to combat the Order of Sydon. An organization that has dwarves, humans, centaurs and satyrs fighting FOR the gods, but it maybe needs a better name." Coronus sits back contemplating.

"So, Necropolis first. Get the weapons. Then, clear the Forge, so they can be repaired. And return to save the demi-goddess, right? So who has a map to the Necropolis?"

Coronus nods to the barmaids and takes his drink casually toasting Kyrah and the fellowship before drinking.

He smiles at the children. He nods toward a lantern illuminating their area of the cramped tavern. Using Thaumaturgy to entertain them, he causes the lantern's flame to flicker, brighten, dim, and change colors from yellow to orange to red to violet to indigo to blue to green and back to yellow again.

Turning back toward the fellowship, the centaur adds his two coppers, "Did you hear about the massive hurricane brewing off the coast of Mytros? It could be weeks before it’s safe to travel to the city. The roads nearby are closed. So, the dragonlords will have to wait, I suppose."

"Should we ask those dwarves to accompany us to the Forge? After we clear the threat, they can move in and join our Order of the Gods." He says with a wink at Mateo.

"Seriously, if we don't have any dragons or dragonlords, the gods are going to need an Order of the Gods, or whatever we call it, to face Sydon and his Order. We cannot do this all on our own."

"Thanks for your words, Mateo. I would have not imagined the behavior of these gods before meeting them. With their power, I would have imagined them awe-inspiring." The centaur replies.

"What concerns me are two-fold: personally, if these gods don't know who is Chiron, then perhaps Sydon is answering my prayers. Obviously, that leaves me deeply conflicted."

"And second, Sydon appears much more organized with his Order of Sydon and directed champions like the hag. It is no wonder to me that Sydon could dominate these gods without the departed dragonlords. If we hope to oppose Sydon without the dragonlords, we need to address this organizational strength. Because, we won't be able to match the power of dragons."

-AT THE DRAGON'S TOOT-

Coronus steps carefully through the crowd to reach the Heroes' tables. He starts to drink slowly. His face clearly shows deep thought and concern.

Finally, away from these gods. "Mateo, I'll join you." The centaur follows at a walk.

He was so disappointed in the gods who he had met. No wonder Sydon defeats them.

What divine creature heard his prayers and granted him powers? Chiron, a god of war. Whoever that might be.

But he was happy to have met Mateo and Lysander. You define yourself by your friends and enemies. So far he was doing well.

He could not see a path to redeem his family and reclaim his birthright, yet. But, so much was unclear right in front him that the uncertainty did not concern him.

Coronus looks up at the god's comment with only curiosity in his face and voice, no offense taken. "So, centaurs are Titanspawn? Not the progeny of Chiron, a God of War?"

Coronus smiles and nods at the god.

Turning away his smile melts in disappointment. How do gods not know other gods? Three for three. No wait. He did not ask the drunk if he knew Chiron. So, two for two. But what's the likelihood that he knows? Maybe the drunk IS Chiron? What's worse? A disappointing drunk for a god, OR a megalomaniac titan who commands an army of centaurs?

He steps away from the gift giving and conversation wondering about his faith in an awful choice.

Coronus shook his head at Kyrah's reply. So disappointing were these gods in person. No wonder that they were conquered by Sydon before the dragonlords arrived. They don't even have the imagination to match Sydon's tactics to get around the Oath of Peace. They don't just need a handful of Chosen of the Gods. They also need a whole Order of the Gods made up of regular people who's lives will be destroyed when Sydon gains the upper hand. How obvious is that?

The centaur then starts wondering about Chiron. The god of war who sired his race. Was he really a god? Was he Sydon himself, because most of centaurs follow him and his ways? While Coronus is meeting his third god in as many weeks, he wonders if it would be a good idea for him to meet Chiron. What happens if he is another drunken inept fool? Or, what if he is another charismatic inept fool? Maybe be should stop trying to find Chiron. Then, he won't be disappointed. Gods are supposed to be awe inspiring.

Coronus politely picks his way through the human and dwarf sized room avoiding crashing into anything. He approaches the third god and tries his luck. They say that the third time is the charm.

The centaur extends his hand in greeting to Volkan and says, "It is a genuine pleasure to meet you, sir. My name is Coronus, and I've a burning question in my heart. What can you tell me of Chiron, the god of war who sired the centaurs?"
