Tough to Decide How I Feel About This One

3/5

Played at GENCON and it was my first time playing this type of cooperative adventure.

Spoiler:
Our GM unfortunately was very poor and the fact that he bragged about being a lvl 5 made the whole experience frustrating. That said I'll try to not let that influence my review too much

I liked the idea of it, but it sure was frustrating to not complete the majority of the encounters when it was time to move on. The plot twist was very cool, and kept things moving quickly as the night waned on.

It would have been nice if our GM would have explained how things worked in the beginning. Once we sort of figured that out on our own, we were all disappointed when our Table GM didn't report our success in the one encounter we actually finish quite early. We even asked if he needed to report it or something; to which he reply don't worry about it. Which definitely killed the enthusiasm for us. Perhaps in this sort of setting the HQ folks could actually do a quick primer for the newer players to let them understand how their actions impact the overall story.

The content of the encounters itself was quite varied and interesting, and also very challenging (played on 5-6). I felt it was harder than Bonekeep (lvl 1). My 6th level Pally, at full health was nearly one-shot at one point.

Overall I liked it, but my overall experience was impacted by the execution and I can't really give it more than 3 stars.

Great for Faction Lovers

4/5

Played this as the Thursday night special at GENCON. And considering what it was designed to do, introduce the new factions and advance the faction storylines, it did it quite well. It's more like 8 mini-missions and it's a shame it's not replayable, with the caveat that you have to play 3 new missions each time. But of course implementing that would be overly complicated.

I could really see this type of scenario being morphed into the new "Quests" mini adventures. Where you could play each one and get credit after you played so many of them.

If you want to feel like you played one cohesive adventure this is not for you; if you want to understand what's going on in your favorite faction than this is a must.

Feel the flavor of Season 6

4/5

Just played this at GENCON, I was very skeptical of mixing in some sci-fi with my fantasy, but from what I've seen it works pretty well. I really liked how story was constructed and while mostly a dungeon crawl, there are investigative and role-play aspects of the scenario to make things interesting. In fact, I found one thing out later I totally missed that super cool. Season 6 is off to a great start in my book.

Best of the Blakros Museum

5/5

Just played this at GENCON and maybe it was just the excellent GM, but this is by far my favorite of any of the adventures taking place at the Blakros Museum. Now I was very skeptical of mixing in some sci-fi with my fantasy, but from what I've seen is it works pretty well.

I played Tier 3-4, and some friends of mine also played at 6-7 (different table at the same time). Both tiers did find it extremely challenging, but if you are intelligent about how you handle the encounters it can really make a difference. The great thing is both tables handled every! encounter in a different manner. We compared notes afterward and were so surprised we had such utterly enjoyable, but completely different experiences with 6-02. There are also some elements that had the party at both tables in a serious conversation about how things should be handled. Plus...some people will absolutely LOVE a certain boon -- my son immediately updated his character to incorporate it. Super cool.

Hope the rest of season 6 shines like this one. Well done!
