If you want to go full 9 levels- I would reccomend Druid and prepare some(1-2 per spell level) cure spells. When you get a wand of cure_wounds-prepare more offensive spells and just switch them out for summon nature's ally spells when needed. Also- it usually better to use SNA's to summon multiple weaker allies instead of big ones. Also Wild shape is incredibly useful with some imagination. The class is extremely flexible and should be viable in both melee and spellcasting.

Editted Somewhat.

Thank you for advocating icluding catfolk in Bestiary 3- I'm having so much fun with them...

If you would be willing to share: I would like some design advice on designing both my own base classes and my own prestige classes... what key points should I look at in order to determine if they need futher refinement?

My thanks/ apoligies in advance.

Limited Daily resources < this

And the one daily resource limitation that I hate, and is so over used? Hours

Yeah. Hours, OMG why does every single campaign limit the characters to only 24. This is so unimaginative. I just hate it.

That's why my next campaign setting will have 267 hours in every day for the first three days, and then the fourth day will have 9000 hours.

So... a planet with multple suns?

My world is 31 hours- 16 hours of fairly safe daylight and 15 hours of poison fest monsters- it also means they go at least 11 hours without buff spells a day... ;)

OTOH; Human beings (and fantasy contemporaries) need 8 hours of rest every 16 hours in order to not suffer fatigue- casters and even other players are very likely to argue this.

An endless ladle, then?

Back to the topic at hand; I've never dumped scores like that before; I as a DM would say that "your character is a burden that was left behind..."

I honestly see no reason to mechanically game the system like that- even my random fifteen pointbuy PC's rarely have a dump stat lower than eight- I have never even touched PFS before and am confused as to why the proposed builds are even considered neccessary...or even if they are in the first place.

Just my 2 cp.

Hello; Mr. James Jacobs,

What you think of Catfolk? Do they exist in the Inner Sea Region- and if so...where? Are there any notable Catfolk on Golarion?

My apoligies if you are not the right person to ask on the latter questions.

Thank you for your time,

Calas Dermain

That reminds me- I have another pet peeve: When GM's run Hardcore-you-will-die-alot-games and expect me to actually invest myself in character backstory...

Also; I have cried before when my characters have died... Because I feel like I failed them.

I like the Star Warss universe; although I dislike the movies.

I dislike Star Trek- don't know why exactly and I don't care.

I think WOW is boring- it feels like your decisions have no impact and your character means nothing- SW:TOR; on the other does the opposite and I think it is a breath of fresh air.

I discourage evil PC's because when they mess up- and they will- they will be hunted down by characters that are designed to kill them (Paladins; Rangers; and Clerics). Not that I'm being cruel; they'll either end up doing things that warrant it or become Neutral- I enforce other alignments in a similar way.

I think it would be a lot of "Vo" and "ile" sounds.

--Like--

Common: Hey; what's up with you?

Halfling: Tavo! Ekal ly rut aen?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

As a dm I usually use the word "technically" to NOT allow something. Especially when fluff reasons against it.

Personally; I think anyone with a high degree of system mastery should help less-skilled players out or at least be willing to tone it down. But that is getting a little off topic.

My definitions are as follows:

Powergaming is when any player uses their knowledge to trivialize equal Challenge Rating or higher encounters.

Munchkining is when you make fun of other people that can't keep up with your powergaming- despite the fact that you don't think there is anything overpowered about your character.

Dinosaurs would be involved. As would be redwood trees.

Will there be tourist fees?

Surgery can't regrow body parts, though maybe soon. Science may be able to regenerate humans without magic.

Speaking of tech- with satelites having almost block-to-block level seeing scope now and technology constantly evolving- the effort one would go through to avoid being noticed could be extreme- not that a wizard couldn't do it... but it would have to be extensively prepared. Humans don't just disappear/reappear in two different spots for example... or become different people in a literal second. Even small thing add up over time.

EDIT just pointing out complications...

But what if it wasn't "you" doing the "surgeries"...could that maitain your cover?

So, in that light, while Swashbuckler seems like it has lots of traction as a Fighter/Rogue, how could it really be a Fighter/Rogue? Won't combining those classes just ruin the concept? You don't want Sneak Attack on a Swashbuckler, and Rogue Tricks don't make much sense either. Unless they're just going to call "Fighter with extra skills and lighter armor" a Fighter/Rogue...

...2) I think someone at Paizo might be a little sore about how negatively the Gunslinger is perceived by the general public. However, lost somewhere in between "ARGH! Guns don't belong in fantasy!" and "Oh no! Full weapon attacks vs. Touch AC is broken!" is a really solid Grit mechanic that merits expanding. I'd predict some kind of melee Grit using class--Fighter/Gunslinger or Ranger/Gunslinger or whatever.

Just wanted to brag about my eerily accurate prediction from earlier in this thread ;)

I toyed with that concept myself; With it being more of adrenaline junkie based warrior that simply a swashbuckler...

Both fixes would be acceptable; but making classes weaker would not make much sense... Golarion is supposed to be a tougher world to survive in after all- making the four "weaker" classes better could reflect lessons learned by the survivors of said profession passing them on the next generation...

But then again the opposite could become true by sheer luck too; I guess... but I digress...

Any feats you want to see? I would like see a couple of Feats that affect the save mechanics; Particularly the key ability score for certain saves.

Schism is banned for being seperate.

Rogues are still fun to play irregardless and besides Rogues are Rouges; and are probably not going to reveiled in the advanced class guide... getting back on topic; I feel like we need a 10HD 1:1 BAB Light Arcane Caster (More of a blaster though-- controlling ones opponent is just dishonorable)

I wouldn't mind more mountless Cavalier archetypes too...

I have a (Not sure if well-placed)question regarding the common tongue in Golarion; is it based on a real world language? And if not; any idea on what it might sound like?

I have never really read much fluff; but...

Desna- always pays to be on the travelling deity's good side.

Sarenrae- Redemption only comes to those who can see it

Iomadae- Fight on... as if in spite of the odds.

In no particular order

Lucky7 is banned for having double luck and for making what I believe to be a Seven Samurai reference.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

There would some rules for it (I have a campaign in IRL that this'll be based in. I'll have it up when I get a chance.)

I can tell you it will be twenty point-buy at level 1

With some mild class and race restrictions - It will be more than core, I can tell you that.. Details will be set up in about a week.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

I enjoyed playing with each and every one of you; I may try and start my own campaign on here, if I do, I will send all of you a pm. With the details, sound good?

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Yep, just like me... :)

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Dewn has final say, but Calas' obsession would most likely be Evocation, and the practical application of such. Since ithe codition probably probbly doesn't exist in it's known state, so he would just seem a little weird and possibly crazy...

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

How would everyone feel if I played Calas with Asperger's Syndrome It's a condition I know quite well... I have been diagnosed with it.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

....And to think I find myself agreeing with the Elf,I Kill him or leave him, we are not taking him with us... Far too risky.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Calas- Orcs are unfortunately not very bright, even though this one speaks common, he apparently isn't capable of being any more clever than the rest of his kind (@ Dewn- is he a half-Orc by any chance) I think we should eliminate him now do to his extreme lack of cooperation.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Calas also follows the Cleric, wondering if this is the right move.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

I concur; he's toying with us... Leave him, lest he hinders us at every turn.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Hearing this; Calas turns arouns and And why would we go thete? When all others that, went that way died?

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Yeah; low levels will be annoying, but by level 7 we should be fine without a rogue;. But if you want to dip, fell free, it's your character.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Count? Calas thinking to the conversation; he casts ligh tand then looks around... Perception check
:: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Calas is not bluffing, based on his current actions, he is hostile, but he is more than willing to change his mind, pleasr remember what Orcs tend .to do to captyued Half-Elves

edit: I'm sorry, I felt that I needed to point that out, uf it was ynwarrented please retract it...

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

If he has no reason to keep him alive, then I say end him; he has most likely commited some crime that he deserves death for, anyways.

Calas looks at Pwent; If you would like to end his life right now, be my guest. he gets and walks away, now completely disinterested in the whole affair.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

I concur with Pwent, this will difficult enough with information; without it, we are easy prey indeed. He allows the last word to to lead a bit, emphasizing his point, there must be many goblins to take out and confuse people enough to strike there own group... or a spellcaster...

Tell me, master Orc what did these goblins look like, and was it just your own brother that stabbed you or did the rest of the group go at each other as well

Edit: I'm sorry but it won't bold the text above for some reason...the entire line with the is Calas speaking to the Orc.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Wait is the Orc speaking in common?

Calas pulls the manacles out of the bag and gives them to Pwent to put on the Orc.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Hmm, I wonder...

Calas assists Hywel in stablizing the unfortunate Orc.
Does he notice anything unusual about the Orc?

Perception:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Edit: Heal check:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
He tries, but he is just not expirenced enough to help.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

And our Cleric's a Dwarf... that poor Orc lol

Yeah, I was just asking because there's not much point in healing him; if one, he decides we're aggressive and two, we can't understand him anyways. He walks away to get Pwent

We need information, I know that dwarves have just as much problems with the Orcs as the elves do; but would you please heal him eneough to talk?

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

, Anyone speak Orc?

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Calas slips on through the door; hoping that Hywel will figure out that they moved on... (and if chromie is still withing 110 feet the following occurs... If not, he listens silently.)

Taking out his wand and piece of copper wire, he wiggles both and softly mutters an incantation, point it at Chromie, he whispers; I hope you are fimiliar with the message spell... if not, it works by whispering, but it will only last for a few minutes.

Note to self: drop Resistance for message ;)

@ Dewn; I used my Arcane bond's bonus spell for the day.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Calas holds the door open for Chromie.
Alright, Master Axehand; please go next, just in case. He pulls out his wand; expecting trouble as well.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

@Dewn Mou'tain; are we allowed to craft custom staves; because I don't like any of the CRB staves and the rules for creating Staves are CRB... If yes, I'll post it up for your approval.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

I Will. Calas moves to the door and opens it (if it isn't locked) ; his body behind the door, using it as cover. Calas motions for the rest of the party to go forward.

sorry about the typo, I rushed my typing far too fast and didn't check it in time yesterday.

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

woops, I think misread DM's post, silly me.

Calas helps Hywel finish with the bag.

We should not care for organization right now; we shall sort it after we find somewhere dry.[/]

Male Half-Elf Evoker 1

Spoiler...I think:
nom nom nom water elemental nom nom nom...(nice choice with all the fire magic we can toss around, this shouldn't be a problem :)

Calas utilizes his knowledge of Arcana to identify the phenomenon. Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
