I am here. Assuming the map is accurate, I would like to go the spider and attack. I'm not sure what checks/rolls I need for that based on my current position. First off, where is Berrik? The map seems to indicate he's outside of the boneyard, but his posts seem to indicate that he thinks he's within 10 feet of the spider. If he's not there, I suppose it'll be me rolling the check. If he is there, I want to help free him.

Aw cheese it! Fine! I'm going to be really disappointed if we all die, people! Big head advances with sword drawn, trying his best to leap between areas where he can see the actual ground. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
M Human Swashbuckler 1
I have no objections to fighting. Can we expect a fight if we press on though? This boneyard suggests that whatever it is prefers to stay here and doesn't roam freely. Yet we have remains of very swift creatures. It seems this creature has a way of keeping prey from running. There are bears here, but their immense strength did not help them. Does it fasten limbs to the ground? Does it immobilize its prey? Or spit poison? I'm curious as to what the people here left behind that this creature couldn't digest, but unless I know how they got to be food, I suspect it's only too likely we'll end up among their ranks if we press on without preparation. We've got a couple outdoorsy types, what is this thing, and what does it do? How do we make it not do that thing long enough to kill it?
M Human Swashbuckler 1
Or not? I don't know what this creature is, apart from the fact that it's able to kill people, and creatures mightier and faster than people. Berrik seems to think whatever it is set up a bunch of traps here--what's going on? I'm from the city, I don't have a lot of experience with 100-foot-radius boneyards, and if I'd seen a skeleton menagerie like this in the city, I think my impulse would be to stay away. If someone has a plan, I could go along with you, I'm just not expecting whatever snacks on people, bears, deer, and--is that a dragon?--to give us a fair fight.

We were going to start here, then look for more bandits I suppose. Was hoping these two could tell us, but apparently they figure the Stag Lord has some pull wherever bandits go instead of Valhalla. How about you? Do you have an idea of where the bandits came from? Or any nearby outposts of civilization having similar trouble?

I think I misunderstood how the gate works, I thought it slid north-south on the outside of the building, but looking at the map again, it looks like two 10-foot doors. If it is two ten-foot doors that swing inside and meet in the center, I want the right-side door (P21 and Q21) swung all the way open, with me standing ready at P20. If there's a mechanism to secure the left-side door closed (at N21 and O21) I want that secured.

On a serious note, Laurel's going to make some noise riding through the mist. It's a bit stupid to go looking for a fight in the mist, but it might mean fewer than five arrows get shot at her next round, and I'd like her to get to the boss. Magickers! Do any of you have a spell that can turn a cowardly ragabond into something useful? Like a towel? Or a latrine!
M Human Swashbuckler 1
That was my original impulse, but I thought you were suggesting the opposite. I'm committed to heading in half-cocked now, right? If so, you can stay inside and be my hype man if you want. Check out those ragabonds who aren't at all cowards hiding out in the mist! I bet your bows work great in there!

I'll take my marbles and chuck them through the opening. I'll listen to see if they hit anything or provoke any reaction,
For any attacks of opportunity I get from attacks on me, I'll spend a panache point for an Opportune Party and Riposite.

Big Head runs down to the lower level of the rampart, hops down to the ground inside,

Big Head springs out from his hiding place. Aha! sees Berrik inside Wait. Oh no. He runs up onto the South rampart next to the gate, next to the catapult. (Is there ammunition for the catapults?) Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
He turns to Dom and hisses Horses! in case they flee!

I'm ready for the next part too actually, mainly just interested in my inside vs. outside question for RP purposes at this point. If the party wants to wave off any battle decisions till the morning, that's fine too.
M Human Swashbuckler 1
Well, I'd rather lead him inside than greet him from the ramparts, since it gives this swordsman more options, and it sounds like Berrik has some ideas on that score. So can we agree on trying to confront him inside rather than outside, and figure out positions in the morning? Or does someone else have an idea?

As an aside to Dom: remind me to ask more about this goblin before we leave. To Svetlana: Forgive me, I assure you that all my questions come from sincere ignorance. If no one else minds, I will cover charges for the party tonight, with a gratuity for your exceedingly warm hospitality. Big Head gives Svetlana 7gp. I do not know what we will do tomorrow; we will need to discuss this before we speak with you again at breakfast. I do have one question which might help us in our deliberations: assuming he does not know our party is here, a possible plan might involve you and Oleg letting him in as you have before, perhaps leading him to a specific place within the walls before we step in and you remove yourselves to safety. If you cannot do this or feel you ought not, we will only consider other plans. But would you consider playing the part of the victim one last time to deliver him into our hands?
M Human Swashbuckler 1
Big Head smiles broadly. Too right! I didn't want to speak for us, especially when I just said I'd defer to you, but who knows when or even if a patrol would be coming--we could be the only help they could expect. Not to mention this seems entirely within our purview, and it would be to our advantage going forward to have a trading post free of malign influences.
