Nightflier et al; Some bad news folks - I work at a Uni here in Aberdeen and just found out that my support/teaching commitment for this term is much higher than anticipated.

That tied to other commitments, my own ongoing pbp game, and two long running pbp games I'm in, means I realsitically can't give this game the attention it deserves. For what its worth I'm hugely gutted as in addition to a great bunch of charcters and setting, I was immensely looking forward to playing the immense Bienn :(

Apologies if this throws a monkey wrench in the game's kickoff.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to play again with some of you in the future. Nightflier - appreciate the consideration and apologies again for this late decision - wasn't an easy one.

READY AND WAITING...

Bienn retooled as an Unbreakable Monk of the Sacred Mountains :)

Happy that I've dropped Power Attack, but with free Endurance and Die Hard, ol'Stoney is literally a rock!

Nightflier - Actually now thinking of retooling Bienn as a Fighter (Unbreakable)/Monk (Monk of the Sacred Mountain)

Think both archtypes will compliment each other pretty well, and make Bienn more of a "defensive"/offence fighter...

Thoughts?

Liking Lorth... him and Obadiah need to have a preach off lol.

Beinn is still here. Stone is patient lol.

Probably not thinking of re-tooling the big fella, but can if party roles change.

Ditto for me - hope all gets sorted out sooner rather than later for your goodself.

Nightflier - totally understand man - bummer on the internet, also hope its resolved all too soon.

With his slow voice like grinding stone Bienn calmly informs the squad:

"INCOMING. LARGE BIPED. MAY HAVE TWO HEADS."

As his gaze ajusts to the thick haze, Beinn slowly to face the potential threat.

PATIENCE. ONE STONE HEAD IS BETTER THAN TWO OF FLESH.

Am back from vacation and posted in game.

Bring em on ;)

Back from vacation :)

Bienn shifts his fighting stance towards the oncoming din. The huge Oread's breathing slows as he listens to the ground beneath his feet, the sounds assailing his ears and sights before his eyes;

STONE TELL ME YOUR TALES

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Just to confirm that as of tomorrow afternoon I'll be on a week's vacation. Not 100% on how the hotel's interwebs will be, but if this coincides with Nightflier's interwebs returning then please DMPC Big Beinn while I'm gone.

Old Stoney is pretty methodical and a brute in melee. Talks in "ITALICIZED BLOCK CAPITALS" - but that's just more for affect.

Hopefully I won't miss too much, but if I do - enjoy!

Looking at his other posts, think Nightflier mentioned it might be a week or two before its up and running good and proper...

Heeding the words of his commander Beinn brings his Earthbreaker to bear, takes a practice swing to correctly gauge combat room required whilst in ranks.

He looks down as the rest of the squad react like the well oiled machine they are... well most of them... Beinn notes Akkori stepping into the shadows;

SHADOWS ACROSS HIS FACE. STONE UNDER MY FEET. WE ALL HAVE OUR AFFINITYS...

In a low voice like slowly grinding stone the massive Oread announces:

"BEINN-ÁRD-CÀRNBORN STANDS READY."

Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

With a deep slow breath the stone-skinned oread; Beinn-Árd-Càrnborn, shifts his bulk from the ground and rises gradually to his feet.

he looks around himself with bleary eyes - searching for the familiar in the unfamiliar...

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Nightflier with regards equipment and gold etc - is our starting equipment all we have + gold or is it the free kit + whatever else we spend it on?

Know there was a couple of players checking the same thing... want my sheet to be finished and complete before I start posting in the game thread...

With regard the gear... is it possible to have your free primary weapon being made of a specific material and "pay the difference"?

[Was considering Bienn's ancient Earthbreaker to have been a cold iron weapon recovered from the Bloodsworn Vale]

Does it give you any other benefits than those of being made of cold iron? If not, you can have it for free.

Nah - just plain old cold iron. The ancient part was to give it an antique feel having recovered from a old battlesite.

Congratulations to everyone! As Tenobia said, just waiting for the final word on what we should include: bonus feat, kit, starting gold, etc.

Sparring partners again eh man lol. Looking forward to this one...

Bummer. Oh well. I tried. Have fun everyone.

For what its worth man - really liked Jail - great name and solid background. The drummed down backstory would have been fun.

I'm gonna update party list tomorrow and, hopefully, complete party roster. Right now, I'm chatting with High Duke about his character, so I hope that we'll have the Commander by tomorrow as well. After that, I'll review the characters and we'll begin the game on Monday at the latest.

I just want to say that all of you created great characters and that I hope that the story will be interesting and enjoyable to you.

"Great things are done when men and mountains meet”

William Blake

Spirit of which is pretty apt from Beinn's perspective :) Looking forward to this...

Beinn completed - have chosen additional traits [think they compliment his history - something I love about traits] and against my better judgement have opted for Power Attack [simply to open up some cooler feats down the line]

Characters are shaping up, seem to be a great bunch... can't wait to see em in action!

Holding off on the equipment until we get a go ahead to shop :)

Even if Jail is a Grunt, he could have been drummed down from sergeant? Would create some internal tension that might be interesting - not necessarily negative but he'd find old habits of being a sarge die hard?

I love the background. You can take the bonus feat. Right now I really don't know what would I recommend.

Thanks man - came to me today on the way home from work and I just hammered out the details. Inspired by the other PC backgrounds and potential of the game I guess.

As for feat - potentially solves a problem as Stone Hide ain't a Combat Feat, so it could be my bonus and I'll retro pick a Fighter Combat feat [no idea what yet]

Wow. That's a great story. Although, I think that it would be questionable if Sable Company would accept an invalid. But, your concept is very interesting and I would love to see it in play if it weren't for one problem: The continent of Norgir, where you will end up, is the place ravaged by ten thousand years long war against Hell. Dead magic zones are not rare at all. If you should enter one of those - and you most probably will - your character would become not only burden to the rest of the party, but autokill as well.

I would suggest that you go with that concept, but slightly modified . Perhaps your character could be Hellknight Signifier, sent to infiltrate the Sable Company? Or beautiful elf from Kyonin, noble woman exiled for some reason? As mysterious as deadly?

I love the concept, and you can count on it being accepted, but you'll have to change the background.

There is also the fact that she is not high enough level to ride hippogriff anyway.

Hell in deadzones Beinn will happily carry Zeltirina on his back Masterblaster style. Awesome concept - very cool.

Stonehide - perfect. Beinn's background [finally] up, hopefully you'll see where the additional traits might fit. Open to changes and tweaks as you see fit.

Nightflier can I ask some questions that will help tie up my background [which I feel I've nailed :)]

Am I right in thinking that with gestalt characters there is no favoured class option?

Also... Power Attack - truthfully I'm not a big fan, [Beinn does enough damage as is] am thinking of ditching it [and thus Shield of Swings] in favour for the possibility of:

Additional Traits [have a couple in mind that fit Bienn's back story and I love traits... these would be standard and not your campaign ones]

and Ironhide Your skin is thicker and more resilient than that of most of your people.

Prerequisites: Con 13; dwarf, half-orc, or orc.

Benefit: You gain a +1 natural armor bonus due to your unusually tough hide.

Would need your okay for the Oread to have it as its a racial specific feat.

BTW there are some amazingly creative characters and backstories taking shape in this game - raised the bar for me for sure! Thanks one and all.

Cheers

Hmmm - I kind of see Tobar as a bit of a civilian attache to the squad. He handles the payroll, looks after supplies and liaises with the townfolk.

Does that fit into your overall vision Nightflier?

Sortof our fixer - guys need to accesorise equipement or source non-standard issue items then Tobar would be first POC [but not in the paratroop sense ;) lol]

@Nightflier: yeah also like the 20 ft. movement. Still working on the pesky background... want Beinn to fit well into the unit [and incorporate solid rationale for his Monk/Fighter combo] getting there but nothing too inspiring as yet... :S

To all players: Remember that your squad was to be an elite and experimental part of the Sable Company (for those not familiar with Golarion, check out Guide to Korvosa and Inner Sea Campaign Setting). Make that a part of your background.

With that in mind nightflier - would we have been more marine based arm of the Sable Company or airborne?

Am possibly thinking that Beinn might well have been part of hippogriff "air crew" [will maybe take Handle Animal to reflect that and tie that into his background] as I can't see him being a flier somehow..lol Alternatively in a marine unit he might have used Knowledge: Engineering to help identfy weaknesses in structures for demolition etc

Any thoughts on the movement stuff for Oreads?

Love the black clad Sable Company though...

Nightflier here's a thread regarding a typo on the Oread: Oread Slow Speed

Basically clarifies that they should have 20 ft. speed - which I actually like, fits Beinn's lumbering persona [ultimately Monk movement will offset it so no biggie, but personally think it fits well - hits like a train... just a slow one]

Backstory should be up by the end of today...

Here's the crunch for Beinn-Árd-Càrnborn; Oread 2-H Fighter/Monk of the Sacred Mountain and squad grunt.

Seeing him as part Samson Posey from The Dirty Dozen and part Tul Duru from Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy with some others thrown in...

Like Tobar I've held off equipment buying based on aforementioned kit etc.

Doesn't do much, but what he does do he's pretty damn good at! Perfect night guard for the group, solid soldier - loyal, stalwart and follows orders well... oh and is an offensive beast!

Background's coming together [chipping away at it lol], will give the heads up when done. Feedback and comments are most welcome from all.

@Rickard: As a fellow Monk/Fighter remember you lose your flurry of blows, future fast movement and AC bonus when wearing armour/using a shield as a monk. Stung me too :( However I'm playing a Shielded Fighter in another pbp and in total defence mode they're pretty impressive...
