Liberty's Edge

Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Thank you very much everyone, and happy gaming!

"I agree that this is intended to be nothing more than blackmail material, but I trust the head of Liberty's Edge to not abuse these. After all, if anything, these are now a memento from your lost brother."

"Step back, Dahrani, this could get dirty. I think. Honestly don't know how much of a mess killing a ghost leaves."

Balfour rushes to the front line, taking a wild swing at the other ectoplasmic enemy.

Greatsword + Rage - Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 3 - 1 = 16, Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (2, 6) + 5 + 2 + 3 = 18

Entering Rage.

"Let me help you there, Sieglinde," Balfour says as he swings his sword at the twisted ectoplasmic student. "This blade can slice through most solid things."

Greatsword + Rage - Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 3 - 1 = 28, Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 5 + 2 + 3 = 14

"Excuse me, Ghost of Cassiel, but J. has a life to live and ambitions to fulfill outside of this broken place. She can't stay here forever on the whims of a dead friend."

Balfour is still clearly confused by the haunt's manifestation.

"So... what just happened? One second there's shaking earth and dead children all around us, a moment later you pop open this haunt siphon and everything is back to normal. How exactly do these haunts work?"

Balfour follows Dahrani in leading the line, constantly spinning his drawn greatsword in a reflection of his agitation. When Sieglinde finally detects an evil presence inside the classroom, the dwarf stops in his tracks.

"What is it? Ghosts? Phantoms?"

"Yes, keeping this information intact is important. While I'm against spying and secretly dealing in information, it seems that you had good intentions, Grishan - especially with your attitude towards Asmodeans."

"I'd like to have one of those watermelons if you don't mind. Gotta compensate for that dwarven shortness somehow."

The dwarf isn't sure what the plant creature is either, but he sure is confused by what she is saying.

"I'm afraid there's a mistake. We're no gardeners and we don't mean to harvest any of you. If said gardeners do come over and give you any trouble you can tell me and I'll show them out."

"We don't look like very likely blood donors anymore, eh, Pip?," the dwarf quips as he swings his greatsword at the little mandragora once again.

Greatsword: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 + 3 - 2 = 17, Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 + 2 + 6 = 17

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

"Gah, will you shut up! You seemed reasonable at first, Majordomo, but I guess we have to convince you forcibly."

The dwarf takes a step forward, placing himself between the plant and the wizard, and brings down his greatsword on his shrieking enemy and also enters Rage in the process.

Greatsword + Rage - Power Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 3 - 2 = 22, Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 + 2 + 6 = 19

"I dunno, something there that she needs to fully experience sounds awfully vague and mighty dangerous," the barbarian grunts. "I trust you mean no harm, but perhaps this supernatural calling you feel to that place does not."

"What's Grishan? How'd you do that thing with the crate just now? Eh, doesn't matter. You lot, get back to quietly complaining about everything that's good in this world in the comfort of your homes; a squabble isn't going to do good to any of us."

"What Eminesa says makes sense to me. From my experience, freedom of thought always comes second to physical freedom; my ideals and loyalty to my family didn't help me feel "free" while being held and tortured by Chelaxian dogs. My idea of Freedom is very similar to that which Andorens believe in, and it seems to me like our friend J knows her Andoran quite well."

A short dwarf in glinting chain mail stumbles towards the gates, his green cloak bellowing in the wind. The large sword hanging from the dwarf's back has apparently ripped a hole in the cloak, and the dwarf grunts as he notices it.

"The weather of Absalom, once again forcing me to make better fashion choices. How characteristic."

He raises his eyes to look at his companions-to-be, a bit confused at first by the various animals flying and running about.

"My name is Balfour Granitehead, and this is my pet sword. She prefers to keep her name a secret. She won't take treats, she's on a bit of a diet."

Do you want me to repeat what I've just said?

Thank you very much for a great game!

Balfour is at first surprised at Lizbeth's hug, but quickly returns a warm dwarf hug, patting the Vishkanya's back and chuckling to himself. He wipes the hilt of his greatsword and mounts it on his back, rubbing his hands and beaming with pleasure.

"And I knew you were a fine bunch as soon as I took a seat next to you. Now, without further ado, let's deliver some bastards to justice and save a carnival. I still need to show you I can win that strength minigame!"

Balfour roars happily when Veilblade drops the thug, then runs across the room to meet Robella from the back. He readies the hilt of his sword, then when the alchemist is pushed back by Rilia's attack he gives her a powerful blow to the back of her head.

Greatsword, Inspire Courage, Rage, Power Attack, Flanking, For Nonlethal: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 - 1 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 + 2 - 1 + 2 - 4 = 23, Nonlethal Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (5, 2) + 9 = 16

Confirm?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 3) + 9 = 18

Balfour watches Robella's bomb fly towards his friends, but manages to dodge the thug's attack. He smiles at Lizbeth as he swings his sword backwards, gaining momentum for a great big chop at his adversary. However, to the dwarf's dismay, at this very moment Rilia leaps over the display case, revealing a bit too much of her underside to not distract Balfour.

Greatsword, Inspire Courage, Rage, Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 11, Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 5) + 9 = 17

"Listen, you blood-sucking outlaws! You are outnumbered, outwitted and outgreatsworded; whence does your will to die come from I do not know, but I can help you get there!"

Intimidate: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

However, Balfour's threat is muffled by his beard, and he flies into a rage, dashing towards the nearest thug.

Two move actions, and entering rage.

Balfour shoves Lebraerio into the room, pointing at the clearly incompetent thug trying to hide himself.

"C'mon, Lebraerio! You have a sharp wit and a sharp blade, go use 'em!"

Liberty's Edge

Male Dwarf Barbarian 3 (HP: 28/32) (AC:16 {FF:14} T:12) (Fort: +6 Ref: +4 Will: +3) (Init: +2) (Perc: +7) (Rage 11/13)

"Sure thing, my lovely Lizbeth; I feel like I can crack three thousand more criminal skulls! Now about the "saving some for you" part, I might have a slight problem with that."

Balfour chuckles and adjusts his sword on his back, then takes a deep breath and starts scaling the ladder.

Climb (Take 10): 10 + 6 = 16

Having not tried to lift his weight in a long time, Balfour was certain his more frequent nights of feasting may result in an unbearable burden; however, this is a gross misestimate as he swiftly and easily makes his way to the top of the ladder and examines his surroundings.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Liberty's Edge

Male Dwarf Barbarian 3 (HP: 28/32) (AC:16 {FF:14} T:12) (Fort: +6 Ref: +4 Will: +3) (Init: +2) (Perc: +7) (Rage 11/13)

Balfour nods in agreement, but makes a remark regarding his lacking rope-ladder climbing abilities, being a dwarf.

Liberty's Edge

Balfour sighs and rubs his face with his palms.

"Lebraerio, my friend, are you sure you're in condition to investigate right now? Should we give you and Kara a night alone, to let off some steam, and return when your mind is in your head and not in someone's butt?"

Liberty's Edge

Male Dwarf Barbarian 3 (HP: 28/32) (AC:16 {FF:14} T:12) (Fort: +6 Ref: +4 Will: +3) (Init: +2) (Perc: +7) (Rage 11/13)

Balfour follows the group slowly, musing to himself about Lizbeth's statement - will Balfour's tab ever be fully covered? After all, at no point does a dwarf worth his beard stop drinking. However, these amusing thoughts disappear when the torture chamber is revealed.

"They have a torture chamber? It looks just like the one the Chelish dogs used on me back in the day! Ah, damn these criminals! I think the fellas we've rescued and this place should be more than enough proof for the sheriff, but we gotta dig some more into this fishy business and get some good justice done."

Liberty's Edge

Balfour scratches at his head.

"Wouldn't Robella be the one we met at the alchemy shop? She said something about combat droughts. I suggest we go investigate her place further."

Balfour gives Lizbeth the thumbs up and steps into the room, trying to take a swing at the remaining rogue.

Balfour dashes forwards, spotting the two rogues.

"There's more of you? Don't you bandits know when you're defeated?"

Baflour enters a fit of rage and makes a forceful attack against the northern bandit.

Greatsword - PA + Rage: 1d20 + 5 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 1 + 2 = 11, damage: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 1) + 8 = 10 vs. Blue

However, attacking through a doorway is apparently not the wisest form of offense and the dwarf's sword slashes at the air besides him.

Liberty's Edge

Balfour, too, hops down the trapdoor and next to Lebraerio.

"So, who're we beating up this time?"

"Ugh... these slimes are more disgusting than an year old sandwich!"

Overcome by an unfamiliar disturbance in his stomach, Balfour slowly complies with Lizbeth's request and moves forward.

"An ambush? How unoriginal. This wasn't even a good one, you could have waited 'till we were all inside the back room."

Balfour sighs and, with exceptional speed for a dwarf, dashes into the room and under the catwalk.

Balfour leans towards Kara and whispers in her ear.

"Should we follow this guy? For all I know, he could be warning the other criminals, or running away..."

Balfour sighs amusedly. After the excitement at the manor, he'd forgotten about our party's amorous tendencies.

"Me and my sword are right behind you," he says to Lebraerio, "and don't try to make any innuendos out of that."

Liberty's Edge

Male Dwarf Barbarian 3 (HP: 28/32) (AC:16 {FF:14} T:12) (Fort: +6 Ref: +4 Will: +3) (Init: +2) (Perc: +7) (Rage 11/13)

Balfour's or rather, my sharp memory for irrelevant details kicks in just at the right time.

"Borvius Monchello? Monchello, as in Robella Monchello, the local alchemist? Something here's fishy, fellas."

Liberty's Edge

Balfour sighs and shakes his head at Rilia.

"Even the most reasonable story won't stop a bunch of local guards from arresting us. Remember, we're the strangers meddling with their mob justice."

Liberty's Edge

Balfour hastily steps between the bard and the young kids.

"Rilia! Not in front of the children!"

Balfour is slightly confused when he sees Veilblade lashing out with his Naginata.

"Hold yourself back, guys! We need him alive!"

Nevertheless, he shifts to a space next to the shadowy thing and readies his sword, in case of an attack from the bandit.

Readied attack:

Balfour hops around Rilia and attempts to finish off the remaining thug.

"Rilia, take care of Kara while I teach our burly friend a lesson!"

Balfour dashes up the stairs and swings his sword at the Green Thug.

"That's more like it! Training dummies made of flesh, delivered right to your door! We don't need to leave more than one alive, do we?"

Entering rage.

Balfour bellows in joy as he leaps at the bandit and releases a clueless detective's frustration in a brutal slash to the critical parts situated between the torso and the legs.

Greatsword - PA + Rage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24, Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

"Finally, potential for some action! You lead, investigator, but my sword arm's twitching to protect your back."

Balfour draws his greatsword and strokes it, then waddles quietly into the manor.

Balfour is disappointed his theory didn't get time to shine, and he's also getting sick of these poorly-executed murders. Nevertheless, he hurries along with the party to the scene of the crime.

"Well, this is... gruesome. At least they can't blame the sphinx this time," Balfour chuckles and hastily switches to a grim expression more fitting for the occasion.

Balfour was quietly inspecting some "combat droughts" when the group was interrogating Miss Robella. However, his eyes flash when Lizbeth mentions the drug as their only lead.

"Say, this Shiver... how hard is it to create? Would you say only an, I dunno, professional alchemist, be able to create something like, and I'm not implying anything, three vials of the thing?"
