Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Taking in the gnoll expert's words, Badi says, "If what you say is true, then it would indeed be a plausible event. However, the creature you describe is truly strange and I have not heard of anything like it in my studies. I hope to cover all avenues of inquiry and suspicion. Until we can verify that this creature exists, please stay within the confines of the caravan and camp at all times." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() "Thank you Lady Almah. If you will excuse me, I will continue the investigation elsewhere and I shall return with the otehrs once our investigation is completed" With that, he sises and gives a deep bow before leaving the tent. Once more out in the desert wind, he looks to what avenues have already beeen covered, seeing the guards, Zastoran and the herders have already been talked to, he spots Dashki standing apart form the others and alone. Approaching the man, Badi says, "May water be plentiful. I am Badi and I have been tasked with investigating the fire. Would you mind answering a few questions about events leading up to the fire?" ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() After listening to Lady Almah's words, Badi nods understandingly and says, "I to have lost someone close to me, though I hope she still be alive, so I can understand a little of the pain you are going through. As such, I appreciate your willingness to meet with me. Before I begin, I feel it only right to give you something, an item that I believe belonged to Eloais and should serve as a reminder of not only him, but the message he had for you." With that, he pulls out the card of the Cyclone and hands it to Lady Almah. "Now, if you would be so kind as to recount what your were doing before the fire started as well as if you had noticed anything strange about the people who traveled with you in the caravan to this point." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Listening patiently to the Domo's words, Badi nods and replies, "In that case, would it be possible to get a meeting with the Lady Almah now. She would be the one that spent the most time around Eloais and, as such, would know best who might have had ill will towards the soothsayer, if murder is to be considered." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() While not charismatic, Badi had proven himself to be a good travelling companion, accounting tales of history, though from a more factual that entertainment medium. What was noteworthy of the half-elf was he never seemed to sweat and seemed to keep his clothing and gear clean of sand and dust. When asked about his reason for joining the expedition, Badi simply states that he is looking for someone but doesn't go into much detail about who it would be and how that was connected with this caravan. Upon reaching the Sultan's Claw, Badi spurs Aa-need to follow Garavel. Looking at the chaos of the fire in bewilderment, Badi has sense enough to grab the card that the wind of the fire plastered to his chest. Looking at it for but a split second, he stuffs the card into one of his pouches before slipping off the camel and, taking up a bucket, will move to help put out the fire. ![]() Chuckling, Badi continues with, "I made no such statement, simply offering warning should you find the need to explore the curiosities one could find in such a marvelous place. Abadar has a far reaching view and once you learn how it works, there is much honest trading happening among the chaotic bartering that happens among the Stalls. I too am taking part in Domo Garavel's expedition into Kelmarane. Let us find a table to share, the desert trip will be long and making acquaintances before facing the journey ahead will make such journey much more tolerable." With that, he stands to join Sonja and Nasir at their table. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Having already sat down, Badi nods in greeting to those who enter. At Sonja's question, the half-elf smiles and says, "May the desert be merciful. I am Badi Al'Mukhabat Nabih Ka'im. You are correct foreigner. None of the markets in the world can compare with those of Katapesh. Take care should you find yourself in the Night Stalls however. That place is a thorned bush disguised as a desert flower for those not in the know." Those familiar with Katapesh are want to believe the man as the hand he used to hold his polished cane has a ring etched with the insignia of the Duskwalkers. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Taking a seat is a tanned half-elf who waves off any dust and sand removal assistance. In fact, his embroidered robes and gear look free of dust just as his brow looks free of sweat. Passing the reigns of his camel to one of the staff, he looks to the host and smiles. In his hand, he holds a cane of Chelaxian craft though he speaks Kelish fluently and without any sign of foreign accent. "May your supply of water be ever flowing," he says as his turbaned head dips in greeting. On his finger is a finely crafted ring and a pack is slung over his shoulder. ![]()
![]() Realized that I never responded to your note to me Stormwind. When I first thought up this character, I did some research into the meaning of middle eastern names and pieced this name together. Most of the names have to do with honor, skill and intellect, though I don't know for certain which part of the name means what. Also, I wanted to let you know that my character sheet should be up to date and I look forward to seeing your final selection. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Hey all, I will be sure to post in the recruitment thread, but also want to post here as well. I apologize for the disappearance, but with the chaos of getting this game reorganized as well as chaos in my own life with getting reorganized for classes, I haven;t had much chance to check on this thread. However, things have calmed down considerably and I would love to take up Badi again in this campaign. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Rubbing his chin in thought, Badi then continues by saying, "I hear that you are quite knowledgable about gnolls. Does your knowledge extent to other creatures of the desert and plains? Mostly I am hoping to keep the options open, thinking of anything that might be able to start a fire, in case it is determined by my compatriots that the fire was more than just an accident." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Taking a seat with the dirty man, Badi gets straight to the point. "I have been tasked to investigate the fire that turned the diviner's carriage to burnt rubble. Did you happen to see anything, either before the fire or during it to hint at any possible foul play?" ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Having walked with Nasir, Badi also surveys the area. However, not notting anything of particular value to their investigation, Badi nods to Nasir's comment and says, "Agreed. I will go speak with some of the others in the camp while you fetch Beatrix." With that, Badi will move off to speak with the camp's gnoll expert. Approaching Dashki, Badi says, "Good day, I am Badi Al'Mukhabat Nabih Ka'im of Katapesh. Mind if I sit with you for a moment?" Perception:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Being the Major Domo, Garavel would have the most authority of the newly arrived group to get the answers that the Mistress would want. Badi turns to Garavel and says, "If I may suggest, it would be prudent to find the source of the fire before too much time has passed. Additionally, it might be wise to get to know more about this astrologer and who here might want him dead, if we are to assume that this was murder. With your leave, I shall investigate the caravan and see what I can find." It is clear that the man is one of discipline as he waits for the Domo's response to his statement before taking any other actions. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Even with the furious work and working so close to the fire, Badi is barely sweating. Smiling as the last of the fire gets put out, he too introduces himself, "Mistress Almah, I am Badi Al'Mukhabat Nabih Ka'im of Katapesh. I am glad that we were able to help as we could. I do wonder however, what caused this accident to happen?" ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Badi made small talk whenever possible, if he was going to be travelling with these folk, then he wanted to know a little about him. However, at times the wizard seemed absorbed in hos own matters as well, always scanning the horizon ahead of them, as if seeing something that the others couldn't spot. Though he had said that he use to work in the Nightstalls, he had never been specific beyond that and anyone from Katapesh would wonder how such a slim man could survive in the cramped and chaotic streets of that marketplace. One oddity about the half-elf was that he never seemed to sweat. Even in the morning, the dessert was already starting to heat up, yet Badi had not a single drop marring his exposed forehead. As teh caravan crested the hill and the smoke was spotted, Badi stepped up the pace of his camel, whom he had nammed Aa-need. As the caravan approached and the wind carried the card to Badi's chest, the man gazed at the chaos for but a moment before looking at the card. Eyes widening, Badi hoped that his interpretation of the card was mistaken, for he would admit that he had met few Varisians, even in the city of katapesh, so he was not completely sure of what he saw. Slipping the card into the folds of his robe, Badi slipped off of Aa-need's saddle to lend a hand where he could. Not gifted in animal rearing, nor gifted with reserves of strength, Badi makes for the water brigade, grabbing a spare bucket and doing what he could to put the fire out. ![]() Joining the circle of people in the caravan is a slim man decked out in thin robes, he carries a Chelaxian style cane. Though he speaks with a Kelish accent, his only slightly tanned skin and tapered ears show the elven blood that runs through his veins. Adorning his head is is a simple turban, wrapped in a way to provide protection from the sun with a thin strip hanging down which can be easily wrapped around the mouth and nose to protect from the sands and dust that whip across the land. Taking a seat he politely aknowledges the man as he, with the wave of his hand, invokes a cantrip to remove the sand form his garments. "May water always be plentiful. Thank you for allowing me to join your caravan." Thanks for having me come on board. You might want to link this thread to the recruitment tread for those you have accepted to easily find it. ![]()

![]() Some possible bad news for my participation in game, but good news for real life. I am attending an intensive language immersion program that requires limited communication in any form in any language besides Chinese. as a result, as much as I would like to continue participating in this game as I like the character dynamics being created here, I also don't want to hold up the game with my future lack of posting. As the program in an 8 week program that will ultimately cover one year's worth of language learning material, I don't want to hold you all up by promising that I would be able to occasionally post when I myself am not sure what posting rate I will have. Therefore, I will withdraw form the game, so that you may bring in someone who will have a better schedule for posting in game. In 8 weeks, should you need someone to take up the reigns of a character for this game, I would be glad to do so, but can't reliably do so right now. Thanks for the fun time, short as it has been. ![]()

![]() At Bahram's response to the portrait, Badi interjects with, "Please forgive Bahram. He was very fond of Haleen and has taken her disappearance the hardest among us who know her." His choice of words hints at the fact that, though he isn't as expressive as Bahram, Badi hopes Haleen is still alive. "It is an excellent rendition Gilfroy." Yes, I'm sure several have some sort of familial complex with her. Good thing none are related by blood :P ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() As they worked on breaking camp, Badi also chimed in with, "Haleen plays many roles in our lives. While my 'brothers' count her as a figure that cared for them and nurtured them, she was there for me when we were both younger, possibly before the youngest of us was even born. She is akin to a sister to me, someone who watched my back as I watched hers. She inspired me to walk my own road and make my own views on the world. It has been many years since I had last seen her, but her dress often changed with her mood. Her and I were like minds on opposite ends of the same spectrum and had many disagreements. Fortunately, our differences often helped us to survive on the streets of Katapesh." ![]()

![]() Also rising early, Badi sets about memorizing his spells in the pavilion using candlelight handing about him by magical mean and is undisturbed when Llathander wakes and heads outside. After he has finished viewing his spellbook, Badi goes through his own morning ritual, mumbling arcane phrases and accompanying movements identical to what he daid yesterday morning before leaving the pavilion to enjoy breakfast in the morning light. Hearing others talk of religion, Badi interjects with, "I am not one for religion myself, but as I help keep order in the chaos of the Nightstalls, I have been known to say the occasional prayer to Abadar." As dutifully as yesterday, Badi helps to dismantle the pavilion, though it is obvious with his effort that he doesn;t possess the stength of many of this comrades. ![]()

![]() Unsteadily dismounting from Aa-need's back, Badi pulls out his portion of the pavilion and sets about helping the others erect the structure. Even with the biting cold, and he only wearing thin robes suited for the heat, Badi doesn't show a sign of discomfort and actual seems comfortable in the chill air. With the pavilion up, he joins the others inside and says, "I am no expert when it comes to hunting for food, but I can assist with the fire." With that, the half-elf pulls out a pouch from his robes and, finding a patch of sand in a place safe to start a fire, pours some of the fine, black powder into the sand and starts mixing in for a second or two. Once he starts to feel it heat up, he stands and steps back moments before the mixture bursts, creating a fire that will keep them warm and heat anything they feel like cooking. ![]()

![]() Not minding helping out, he takes the reins reins while they waited for Garavel to return. However, as Garavel hands him the saddlebags, Badi strains a bit and lets out an audible *oof* as he takes the weight and transfers it to his camel's saddle. "Truth be told, I had bought this camel for the trek from Katapesh and only have that as way of experience." Then, tapping the back of Aa-need's leg, as he was shown by the camel merchant he had bought the beast from, Badi frowns a moment as the camel refuses to respond. Then, tapping once more with his cane, but with a little more force, he gives up and starts to clamor up the side of the creature. Then, when Badi was still hanging from the edge of the saddle, Aa-need stooped down on his knees, the shift in weight sending Badi sprawling to the ground. Recovering, Badi simply glares at the camel while he dusted himself off. The creature simply crouched there, waiting for Badi to mount up. ![]()

![]() Once his preparations were finished, Badi tells those remaining that he would meet them all at the north gate so that they could get underway. Then, gathering his things, he heads to the stables to fetch his mount. Arriving at the north gate with the reins of a rather stubborn looking camel in hand, Badi apologizes to Garavel for his tardiness and explains, "It seems that Aa-need here wasn't in the mood to leave the stables. Fortunately, I was able to coerce him to coming." ![]()

![]() The night had proven to be interesting, with the gnome and Llathander getting rather drunk, but only the gnome seemed to be paying for it this morning while Badi's 'brother' was his same exuberant self. Helping himself to the food and a cup of coffee, Badi enjoys his food while perusing his arcane tome. Continuing his study after he had finished, he whispers a chain of arcane phrases in some strange tongue before passing his hands over his body. What he was trying to accomplish was beyond the knowledge of those with no magical talent. Spellcraft DC 16: Spoiler:

![]() Smiling at his "brother's" bravado, Badi will follow the others out of the room as they head to the party that was brewing outside. The young wizard was never one for parties, but he wanted to spent time with compatriots old and new, learn what he can of their stories so that they could feel comfortable joining together to face the hardship that was bound to come. Noticing the odd color of Abbas' hair, he matches stride with the cleric as he asks, "Do all of the Dawnflower's faithful readily take to such vibrant colors?" ![]()

![]() Walking in behind Llathander is a man dressed in fine silk robes that seem suited to keeping the desert heat out. Noting Gilfroy's greeting, Badi gives a slight bow in response as he says, "I am Badi Al'Mukhabat Nabih Ka'im. It is a pleasure to makes your acquaintances. The quiet one is Bahram Kelor." With his slim form and clean cut appearance, Badi seems like the type that isn't use to heavy work and the many pouches hanging from his hip and the scroll case that accompanies them hits at his dabbling in the arcane arts. ![]()

![]() Addressing Durant, Badi says, "Ah, but as you likely understand, prosperity comes in many forms. Though I am garbed in the trappings of my profession, they are but trappings and no true measure of prosperity, unless my prosperity can be measured in coin. As an agent of the Duskwalkers, I am required to cloth in a manner suiting my role. Though truthfully, I have found that it is indeed to my liking." Then turning to speak to all of his 'brothers', Badi continues with, "I would like to know, however, what manner of news brought you all here? My concern for Haleen grew up receiving a cryptic letter..." Drawing out a letter from the folds of his robes, he handed it to whoever was willing to read it. "The script is very much Haleen's, but something seems forced about it. After investing time and coin into determining the cause for this letter, I came to learn that she was in Solku. that is how I came to be here and how our reunion was even possible." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Seems I'm not the only one that things something is going on with Haleen, Badi thought to himself as he entered the room, having just finished his meeting with the caravan domo. Spotting his 'brothers' he gives them a calm smile before Llathander takes him up in a large bear hug. Wheezing at the strength on the man's embrace, Badi is glad when the man puts him down and wind can fill his lungs again. His lean form drastically contrasting with the sturdy form of the half-orc, Badi is decked out in thin robes depicting elementals and genies. On his head is a blue turban held together with a simply bronze brooch and he grips a slim cane in his hand. Hanging from a loop is a wooden crossbow and a case of bolts hangs from his belt next to his scroll case. Adorning his right index finger is an elaborately crafted wooden ring inset with a jade gem. What is surprising however is that though today was already shaping up to be hot, not a drop of sweat graced badi's brow or stained his fine robes. As the young wizard recovers his composure, he says, "Yes, it has been some time since I last saw you Llathander. I believe not since we first met while you were under Haleen's care. And Durant, it is good to see that your training with the monks has kept you alive and well." ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() My background is slightly flexible. As a Duskwalker Agent, and a bastard child to an elven slave in Katapesh, his city of origin and occupation is rather limited. However, how he knew Haleen can change depending on the backstory they have for Haleen in the book. If he is not originally from Katapesh, then they could have met after he became a Duskwalker Agent. I will update my sheet to reflect the trait change. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Regarding the wand pool. Unless some of us knew each other pretty well before the trip from Solku started, I don't see how we could have pooled money to buy a wand before. Once on the road, I don't think there would be much opportunity to stock up on supplies unless we happen upon a caravan that carries such things. That, and that fact that Badi's own preparations are leaving him with a total of almost 7gp means that he wouldn't be able to contribute nearly enough to cover his part of the cost. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() The asterisks are more for my own record keeping. All spells with an asterisk are conjuration spells. It'll help me keep track of what spells I can put in my school granted spell slot. Will most likely buy a camel anyway, Badi has the money to spend and doesn't have a lot in the way of carrying capacity. Plus, he is the type of guy that would rather over plan than underplan and be stuck unprepared. I am currently posting from California (currently GMT -7 I believe). I will be heading to the Vermont area (GMT -4) for about 8 weeks starting in Mid June and will once more return to California in Mid-August. ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Yeah, the mistakes you noticed are my fault Patcher. I used the template for a monk character I had made for another campaign and am in the process of changing it all. I will have those and other things fixed before the weekend is through. If we want to make the trait fit for all of us, then for the young ones, Haleen, though possibly only 10-15 years older then, could be like a mother figure. Someone who took care of them when they were younger. Not knowing much on Haleen's background in the campaign, I had her as being born in Katapesh city and Badi and her spend their early years growing up on the streets together, thus they see each other more as childhood friends. When Badi got taken in my the Duskwalkers and he began his apprenticeship, Haleen left for wherever it was that she felt like going though she occasionally returned to meet up with Badi and exchange stories of what they had both seen. I am still looking at the other traits to see if I can incorporate one of them into his background instead, but having a tough time doing it without drastically changing his background. On a side not Patcher, how much would you say a camel would cost? ![]()
Male Half-elf Wizard 1 (Conjuration)
![]() Hmm, well, those with the trait who are human could be possible blood relatives of Haleen, if she is human of course. From the traits description, Haleen did a fair amount of traveling and my Background has her spending some time in Katapesh City, where Badi grew up. As possibly the oldest of those with the trait, at the ripe age of 37, Badi still sees Haleen as a sort of older half-sister, what with how quickly humans mature versus half-elves. With as much as the lady traveled, it is possible that we might not all know each other before we meet up in the caravan, but having a rough idea of a "family tree" might be good. As for what DM Patcher suggested, I don't plan on Badi changing his spell type, but I think it might be good to limit the change to elemental spells only and leaving the positive/negative energy aspect as laid out in the Books. I am not too knowledgeable of spells, but I think most positive/negative energy spells already have its own opposite and it would be a shame to accidentally lose healing capabilities because too many spells got changed to negative energy. ![]()
![]() I'm excited that badi found a place in this one. this is a campaign I have been wanting to play in for some time. I will get the final adjustments done. Mostly buying gear and fixing a few errors. And I will also look over the other characters in my group and see if there is possibility for any backstories. If any others in the Scepter of Flames group has finding Haleen as a trait, then lets collaborate so that we don't have multiple versions of Haleen running around. ![]()
![]() Noting Hazeem's slip, and figuring that it was simply the man's inability to master the intricacies of the common tongue, Badi speaks up with, "The man said dung, not tongue. Using camel's tongue to start a fire would not only not work, but it would be inhumane to the poor camel as well. Now if you would prefer not to touch camel excrement. Might I suggest you procur some firepowder." Taking a pouch of black powder from his belt, he mixes the powder with the fine sand at his feet before taking a step back. Within moments, it flares to life, creating a fire that matches Assan's magically created one. |
