I've joined another game and filled my quota for now, but I hope you guys have fun. ^^

I will be stepping down unless our original GM returns, but wish everyone a good time if things go on. ^^

Indeed. Most worrisome.

Definitely, haha,

By the way, Hedel, don't forget you can reroll a 1 in your money roll.

With Adria's departure, I am amused to note that I seem to be the sole female character around. :P

Here we go, application complete. Looking forward to seeing who is picked.

Please let me know if there's an issue with it.

Inspiration struck today, will be adding a little to Azalea's background: In addition to librarian, she'll be a schoolmarm. Every little village needs one of those.

Hm. Question:

Max HP at level 1, average +1 at subsequent levels.

Do you round the average up or down?

On an Expert's d8, is average +1 5 or 6?

Also, are there any particular regional languages in or near the area Bastrop is in?

EDIT: Most of my crunch is up. I'll just need to detail her possessions and her home.

Aaaah. I see. Sounds good, then. Will have the rest of the application up later today. As for the thread being innaccessible, check the discussion thread for what happened. A few of us took refuge there when the thread was down.

My apologies for the double post. The thread essentially exploded when I tried to edit my last post.

Gold: 5d10 + 50 ⇒ (6, 8, 10, 10, 10) + 50 = 94 Lucky! I'll be able to afford that heirloom longbow from my backstory.

So, here's my character, Azalea Bramson, Elven Librarian. I have the background up, will be putting up her crunch sometime tomorrow.

Would it be possible to get some clarification on what goes into our gold, vs. what goes into "tools of your trade"? Am I correct to assume that, for example in the case of my character, the library building and its books and supplies, are the tools of my trade, while Azalea's personal posessions are taken from the gold above?

What of living quarters within one's workplace? Are those to be part of the initial gold amount, or part of the background?

Female Elf Expert 3

... Oh wow. Hopefully they'll bring it back.

Again, my most sincere apologies about this, GM. This looks like a really interesting concept for a campaign, so I'm hoping you won't hold this incident against me when it comes to the selection.

EDIT: Huzzah! The thread unexploded.

Female Elf Expert 3

... I don't know what went wrong.

I posted an intent to join, tried to edit my post, and when I tried to save that edit, I ran into that error.

I have no idea if I'm at fault or not, and I very much apologize if some error on my part caused this.

I've emailed Paizo's message board support to let them know about this.

I'm definitely interested, and will be recycling this alias from a game that never took off.

Am I correct to assume that our characters would have their homes/places of work? For example, would a blacksmith have his forge, and a librarian her library?

Female Elf Expert 3

Aw. I'm sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting us know.

Female Elf Expert 3

My assumption as well.

Female Elf Expert 3

Everything alright, Shallow?

Female Elf Expert 3

Azalea waits for the party to act, herself unsure of what to do.

Female Elf Expert 3

I'm still around as well.

Female Elf Expert 3

Azalea edges towards the middle of the group, skittishly looking all around. She draws her spell components with one hand and places the other one on Rufus' withers, hoping to keep him calm. Meanwhile, Julio takes a prime observation spot atop Azalea's head, glancing about rapidly.

"Somethin's a-comin'!" The parakeet screeches, his Shackles accent flaring and his wings aflutter.

Azalea's perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Julio's perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Female Elf Expert 3

Azalea reluctantly agrees to help Godfri, realizing that it's most likely her only way to get the party's help in the future. While she's happy to help a man in need, the idea of a sudden forest excursion isn't something she feels very safe with.

She excuses herself from the group for a moment as they come near the library and leaves the cart of books there, requesting that one of the library aides return it to its place. She loads up Rufus with some supplies and quickly rejoins the group.

As the guard aggressively confronts the group, Azalea shrinks away, intimidated.

Female Elf Expert 3

Godfri speaks wisely.

Female Elf Expert 3

Azalea, at first hesitant, eventually approaches the group.

"Pardon me, Tairn, is it? I believe you know Laurien Asbonder? He requested that I meet the mercenaries hired by some of his cohorts. Might you be aware of any of this?"

Female Elf Expert 3

Oops, missed Oloro's post earlier.

Azalea shhots a revolted glare at the passing rogue as he mocks her words under his breath, making salacious implications. "Well, I never! How rude!"

Female Elf Expert 3

"Please, call me Azalea," the 'book lady' nods, stepping in with a thankful nod.

Female Elf Expert 3

"Please, call me Azalea.," the 'book lady' nods, stepping in with a thankful nod.

Female Elf Expert 3

"... I'm surprised as well, now that you mention it." Azalea replies before adjusting her glasses, quite confused as to how she managed to miss the larger weapon.

"As for Tair, I'm afraid I've not heard of him."

Female Elf Expert 3

Puzzled by the question, Azalea looks Godfri up and down, trying to place a name on his face until, finally things snap into place.

"Ah! Godfri! I hadn't recognized you." Azalea's eyes go wide as she recognize the half-orc standing in front of her as the young lad who would frequently be dragged into her library by his mother. "My, you've certainly grown into a fine lad! Please forgive me, I'm afraid the library has gotten a lot of visitors over the years, and it gets rather difficult keeping track of everyone. The height and the hammer certainly made an impression."

Curious, Julio leans in, turning his head sideways to get a better look at Godfri.

"I'm afraid I don't know for sure what I'm looking for. One of the library's wealthiest patrons requested that I meet some of his associates here, but he's left me a little short on information."

Female Elf Expert 3

Azalea hesitantly approaches Godfri and Barid, leading the mule and its cart behind herself.

"Pardon me, sirs," she addresses the two men from the ground in front of the porch. She hesitates for a moment and, before she can say another word, the flutter of small wings is heard and a small green parakeet lands on her shoulder.

"You two merc'naries?" The bird asks nonchalantly, tilting its head to the right and back as it speaks.

Azalea's eyes widen, horrified that her familliar spoke to them so brashly and loudly.

"P-please pardon my familliar," she stammers. "It's just... I've been asked to meet someone's hired men in the market place, and you two looked like you fit the description. I'll just be out of your way now, my apologies."

Without another word, Azalea begins to slink away unless anyone stops her.

Female Elf Expert 3

Did Laurien give me any indication of who I'm supposed to be meeting?

Female Elf Expert 3

Yeah, probably would start being sorta bulky after a few attacks. Keep in mind, I'm just giving my own opinions here. I don't purport having any kind of authority. :P

And with that, bed calls.

Female Elf Expert 3

My recommendation:

If it's information that's not public to everyone, spoiler it, making the spoiler a clear note of who it's for.

Some examples that quickly come to mind:

---

Speaking in Elven:
"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."

---

"That dress looks very good on you," Bob said.

Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Sense Motive DC 17:
Bob actually thinks the dress is hideous and unflattering.

---

It's also good to spoiler up things that aren't private information, but are bulky. For example, suppose you have a week of downtime, and decide to perform every day to earn GP.

One week of performing:

Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Perform: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

... pft. Those first three rolls. No wonder I have bad stats. There's a demon lurking in my dice.

EDIT:

Just a heads up, by the way: On saturdays, I have friends over, (in general, for tabletop Pathfinder), so I'll be less active over the day. (I will, however, be around to post in the morning and late in the evening.)

Female Elf Expert 3

Thank you. ^^

Female Elf Expert 3

Same here. Good start.

The rolls won't change even if you delete a post and rewrite it. (I just tried out of curiosity. It's both convenient for post writing and a good anti-cheater measure.

Female Elf Expert 3

Hm. That reminds me I meant to try something. Test: 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + (2) = 6

Also, advice: Editing or previewing your post doesn't change the value of your dice, so you can make a post up to a crucial dice roll, preview it to see what the dice is, and make the rest of the post in consequence. For example:

---

Bob takes a swing with his sword, grinning confidently as his blade quickly approaches the goblin's neck. (added after I already knew the dice roll.)

Sword attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

---

Since you know that the roll looks good or not, you can color the action accordingly, giving a more harmonious feel to the roleplay.

Female Elf Expert 3

A familliar clippity-clop of hooves makes itself heard in the marketplace, and soon, a few children perk up, calling to their parents. "Mommy! Look! It's the book donkey!"

And, sure enough, a chestnut mule strolls through the market pulling a small cart full of books, led by a lithe elven woman clad in a scholar's vest and slacks. Riding atop the mule's head, a small tropical bird warbles cheerfully, adding to the childrens' joy.

"Blast that Laurien," Azalea mutters under her breath. "Blast him and that smarmy tone of his. I have half a mind to- Oh! Hello!" Her tone changes completely as a young girl approaches, asking if there are some nice story books in the cart today. Azalea squats to the girl's height and smiles. "Let's find out, shall we?

Certainly enough, The Princess and the Dryad had been sitting there between two big encyclopedias, just waiting to be borrowed by some nice little reader. One quick signature later, the little girl skips away happily, book hugged tightly against her chest. Azalea smiles as she watches her go. "Have a good read, now!" The little bird declares in clear, if high-pitched, common, marked with a pronounced Shackles accent. The little girl giggles as she leaves.

"Always have to be the center of attention, don't you, Julio?" Azalea notes, chuckling as Julio merely tilts his head so as to say I have no idea what you're talking about.

"Now then," the elf reflects, looking around the market place. "I'd better find those mercenaries, because they're most certainly not going to find themselves."

Noting the two armed elves, Azalea thanks Yuelral that she chose to prepare some defensive spells before setting out. Who knows what she could expect out of such people.

Female Elf Expert 3

Oh, alrighty then.

Female Elf Expert 3

Uh, Gofri, I think your math's off on your shortbow. Each str rating on a composite bow costs 75 gp by itself, meaning your bow is currently worth 375 gp. I don't think you can afford that with your starting gold.

Female Elf Expert 3

By the way, Third mind, with an illusionist in the party, you'll find yourself with no lack of invisibility spells to back you up. ;)

Female Elf Expert 3

So, we've got a Wizard, a Druid, a Ranger and a Rogue.

Looks like we've got every combat role covered.

I'd advise putting up a full statblock in the About field in your profile, Godfri, it helps to have a full reference on your character.

Female Elf Expert 3

At higher levels I'll be able to cover the weakness with spells and summons and such, but right now... eesh. Especially now that you guys have all rolled and all got pretty good rolls, I have to confess I am a little annoyed with my results.

I'm almost tempted to ask for a reroll, but I'd dread getting all mid-range stats. See, this is why I normally do point-buy. If only I could just reroll that eight or that nine or whatnot. :P

And thank you. I figured I'd make Azalea somewhat of an "honest" illusionist. It's about projecting images, not about tricking the senses.

Female Elf Expert 3

I've been doing some thinking, and I've played a conjurer in another game before. For the sake of variety, I'm going to make Azalea an illusionist instead.

Question: Could I reflavor the blinding ray power as causing disorienting visual overload, as opposed to depriving a creature of sight? Seeing too much, as opposed to not seeing. I just can't justify an avid bibliophile inflicting blindness, even temporary.

Female Elf Expert 3

With only 14 dex and 10 con, I'm probably going to need you to be my official bodyguard anyway, Goddy. :P

But yeah, I do intend to pick up item crafting. I do, however, ask one thing: If someone wants me to craft an item and I can't craft it without knowing a spell that I don't know yet, I require that they pay the costs of acquiring that spell. That aside, I shall be crafting items for the party at-cost.

To put your character sheet in your profile, click your own name on one post -> Profile Tab -> Create Profile, or something like that.

Random thoughts, as far as advancement goes: I'm building Azalea with the intention of having her become a Loremaster at level 7. Also, I may or may not have her build a golem when the level and money is right.

Female Elf Expert 3

I'd like a mix of both spelunking and intrigue, myself, rather than focusing on either. Downtime and roleplay would be good too.

Will we have time to craft items between adventures? I may be tempted to pick Craft Wondrous Items to make the party richer.

Female Elf Expert 3

Other question: Will the campaign take place more in the city, or will out of town trips into the wilderness be a common thing?

Unless the answer to any of these questions makes me want to change some of my choices, Azalea is ready to go.

That's a pretty interesting background, I look forward to seeing Bairid in action.

I haven't finished my sheet yet, but I do have a full background. For those interested...

Backgrond:
The village of Tallenfur, 150 years ago…

The village librarian, Hector Bramson, was a quiet erudite. The middle child of three, he had inherited the library from his own father. He and his wife, Eleanor Bramson, née Eleanor Oakes, took great pride in their trade.

Though complications resulting from their first child’s birth made it too much of a health risk for Eleanor to have a second child, Mr. and Mrs. Bramson very much had it in their heart to adopt more children. Thus, they would adopt three more children over the years; a second son, a daughter, and, finally, a third son.

As a few years passed, the city began to bloom around them and, as it did, it began receiving more exotic visitors.

One evening, Roseanne Thatcher, matron of Tallenfur’s small village orphanage and now a good friend of the family came to speak to the Bramsons, making a request of them. A bandit ambush had claimed the life of a pair of visiting elves, leaving their daughter orphaned. Young Azalea was in need of a home, and, Roseanne hoped, the Bramsons would be the ones to take her in where others had refused, generally opting for children of their own race. Her new parents and siblings welcomed her with open arms; to them, she was one of them, Elf or not.

Hector and Eleanor were more than happy to accept, and young Azalea Bramson became the library’s youngest occupant and caretaker. It was not long before she gained her adoptive father’s passion for the literary arts. Every day would find her reading tome after tome when she wasn’t learning the highs and lows of the library’s care.

As the years passed and their parents aged, the Bramson children each began drifting towards their respective paths in life. The eldest, Johann Bramson, discovered a talent for the musical arts and became a bard quite renowned in the region. Arthur Bramson, the second son, became a clockmaker and opened his own successful boutique. Lucia Bramson, the eldest daughter, apprenticed with the old taylor and inherited his shop upon his passing. The youngest son, Nicholas Bramson, who turned out to be gifted with an impressive stature, would be part of the newly established city watch’s first regiment of guards, eventually ascending to the rank of second in command to the captain himself.

Azalea, however, had found her passion in her father’s own line of work. When Hector Bramson and his wife could no longer handle the library, the responsibility passed down to Azalea, and she took it on with great pride.

With time, Tallenfur grew, and with it, so did the library. Having been built when the village was young, the Bramson Library was a well-known building in town. Its proximity to the town hall and the biggest school made It an invaluable asset as the village bloomed into a town, and then a city. Thanks to the generous patronage of several rich individuals, it bloomed into a renowned institution.

The proprietor, however, was a different story. After the passage of time and her nature as a long-lived elf left her without much family, save for the occasional visit from her nephews and nieces, Azalea divided most of her time between the pursuit of knowledge and teaching herself the magical arts thanks to several mysterious tomes offered by a patron of the wizardly profession. The city grew around her, but she missed much of its growth, too absorbed in her tomes to see the years pass.

There was, however, one particular exception to her isolation. A traveling merchant had once came to town bearing a very unusual cargo: Tropical birds of all sorts, sold as pets and curiosities. At first only intending to look, Azalea visited the merchant’s stall, and found her heart stolen by a tiny yellow-headed green bird. Offering the merchant a handful of gold for the parakeet, Azalea brought it home to the library. Now bearing the name of Julio, the bird became Azalea’s faithful pet and, as she mastered more magic, her familiar.

However, her quiet routine would one day be disturbed with the arrival of a visitor…

~~~
The library thundered as its double doors were shoved open. Azalea peeked over the rim of her glasses, and sighed as she recognized the approaching figure. Laurien Asbonder, one of the library’s biggest contributors, had once more barged in, much to her annoyance. As much as his generous funding helped the library survive and expand, he had a way of grinding her gears like little else could.
"Azalea, you would never have had this sheltered life for so long without my money, and now I've found a way for you to earn your keep. I want you to find out who's trying to kill me. My guards have stopped two assassins in the last three months. I know they're from the same employer. I can't trust anyone else in my employ as they all have their own motives. You, though, only want to study. If I die, you'll have to earn your keep, but with me alive, you can study to your heart's content."
"I don't really care what you think," he continued, "but I want you to start in the town square by looking at the adventurers and mercenaries who are being hired by my cohorts. The rest I leave in your hands. I trust that your wisdom and knowledge - and powers - will serve me well."
And so, in the space of five minutes, Azalea had now been saddled with a quest. With a man’s life and a library’s prosperity on the life, she did not have much of a choice.
Expect mine sometime tomorrow evening or friday. School is breaking my back right now, but that'll stop by thursday.
