Everyone, with a heavy heart I must announce that my PbP endeavors will have to go on hiatus, once again. It just seems like whenever I think my life has stabilized, everything blows up again. I am sorry for disappearing for the last week plus, but I thought if I waited it out, I might yet be able to get the game going. But it looks like that won't be the case anytime soon. I can't leave you hanging forever, so let's go ahead and abort for now. I'm really sorry to disappoint you all. I thank you for the time you put in on your characters, and wish you all the best.

Thanks, guys! I'm looking forward to it. I take it we don't yet have an in-game thread? When's the official start date?

You take it correctly, sir, but how does tomorrow grab you?

We have a cleric, and he will be played by Neil Spicer.

Yes, indeed. More later.

Sorry this is a couple days later than initially intended, guys. It turned out to be a really busy weekend.

Anyway, with no further ado, I am pleased to welcome NSpicer to the game as Akorian the political firebrand. This was a very tough call, so PFox and David, don't sell yourselves short. All three concepts were excellent.

Spicer, please go ahead and introduce yourself on the discussion thread, and please let me know when Akorian's sheet is all set.

All right, good to see some interest!

I'm going to cut off the applicants now, because all three ideas submitted so far are good ones. I'll choose between PsionicFox, NSpicer, and David Fryer.

Thanks, guys! I should have a decision up later today.

Guys, I just went ahead and resurrected our original recruiting thread, in hopes of adding a solid sixth player. Rather than draw a name, I opened it up for character concepts (strongly recommending a cleric concept) with the intent to pick the best of those that come in within a short amount of time.

Anybody still out there?

Okay, so two potential players have been forced to drop out in the character creation stage due to real life concerns. As of now, we have five excellent players ready and waiting to begin the game, but we could really use a sixth. The party is short on divine/healing ability, so a cleric would be a welcome addition.

Now, rather than draw another name and inviting one person, here's how I want to do this. First, head over to the discussion thread and familiarize yourself with the other players and their characters. Then, pitch me a solid character concept that you think will fit in well with the others (in terms of party balance) on this thread. It doesn't have to be a cleric, but it will make things easier for you if it is. Please...don't post over in the discussion thread unless you get in, please! Include in the pitch your choice of campaign trait, so I'll know you're at least a little bit familiar with the player's guide.

I'll take my favorite character concept if I get several, but I'm hoping to get someone quickly. So, if you're the first guy in and I really like your idea, that'll be all she wrote. So don't dawdle.

The other players are good ones, I can tell. You want in on this, don't you? So what are you waiting for?

To All:

My apologies, but I need to back out - Real Life (work) just caught up with me and is going to make it hard for me to commit the time and focus to the game. Rather than alway be late/slow (or worse) I'd much rather someone take the slot and give the campaign the attention it deserves.

Really frustrated, having just got "back in", but feel this is the right thing to do.

Best regards,

AJC

Wow, sorry to hear this man! Sometimes life just gets in the way of the fun. Still, letting us know in a straightforward fashion is indeed the right thing to do. Best of luck to you, AJC!

Everybody else, what do you think? Recruit a 6th player, or roll with the five we have?

stardust wrote:

Hmm, my employer called. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get to that tonight. I can have them reformated tomorrow sometime though. (I know that doesn't help you right now, sorry :( )

Well, Zalania's already reformated. I just don't have her up that way on my profile exactly. :P I can probably post that, if you want, but it won't be much different than my profile.

Hey, no worries. Anything you can do is appreciated, but don't feel pressured, stardust.

Similarly, no one should feel an inordinate amount of pressure to format their sheets in a particular manner. I'll slog through this stuff as best I can.

Uzzy wrote:
Changed Erika's background/details and name, but the stats are still the same.

I like the new name better, I must say.

AJCarrington wrote:

Thanks for this - will give a cleric some pondering this evening.

AJC

Good man! Let us know how the pondering is going. Please also don't feel pressured to play a cleric if you don't want to.

Calixymenthillian wrote:

Sorry about the delay, I've switched out Disguise Self for Infernal Healing.

I'm just writing up an equipment list now - will I be allowed to use Scribe Scroll to spend some of my starting cash now that XP cost isn't a factor? (I'll make the DC 6 spellcraft check on a 1)

Yes, you can purchase appropriate scrolls from your starting cash, for the cost of creation. However, any spells with an expensive material component must also include that cost in the total.

Update: Well, we need to get AJ's character in the fold, and I know Calix still has a couple of final details to finish up. But, we're really close now to being able to start this game. :)

Uzzy, with the changes you've made, Erika looks good to go. Thanks!

Uzzy...

Spoiler:

Ah, well. Indeed, that build does come to 15 points, I stand corrected. I guess I just assumed that the +2 racial bonus would have gone into either STR or CHA, since those were her highest scores. Indeed, if you'd want to rebuild her with that in mind, you could still squeeze that one additional point out of the build. It's up to you.

stardust wrote:
Want me to help? Part of the problem could be they're all formatted differently. I could reformat them if you want. I usually do for my own character "sheets" anyway. (They all look like NPC profiles.)

Sure! Anything you'd like to do would be appreciated. If you want to have a look at anybody's math, or reformat sheets...you're welcome to it. Thanks a lot!

Uzzy, having reviewed Erika's sheet...

Spoiler:

It looks to me that she actually was built with only a 14 point buy. I don't want to see her shorted the extra point, so take another look at that please.

Also, I think her damage with melee weapons should be +2, with a strength of 14.

I'll wait and see if the ability scores change before delving any further. Thanks!

Calix, I looked over Genevieve...

Spoiler:

Actually, everything looks fine so far. Of course, she will need a complete equipment list. And, if you want to take Infernal Healing as mentioned above, just let me know of the change.

Argh, trying to review these sheets is giving me a headache. Someone should offer a 'PBP character sheet review service', or something!

This may take a while.

mordulin,

Spoiler:

No, you read it absolutely right, it appears. This is just a simple matter of your DM still learning the new rules, and what has changed from 3.5. You are correct.

Okay then, Marcellano looks ready to go! Good job!

Doug, one quick question before I get too far into Morn's sheet...

Spoiler:

Belt of Dexterity, is it +2 or +4?

Heaven's Agent...

Spoiler:

Ah, 8 ranks is correct. I'm using a character generator spreadsheet to assist in checking character sheets. However, it doesn't support Tieflings, so I've actually got Koveluss listed as a (heavily modified) human. Hence, it was giving him an extra skill rank, and I didn't catch it.

Okay, I think he's good to go then! Nice job.

Zalania Sapphros wrote:

Yeah, I thought we were traveling together. I mean Adele, myself, and you. But if not, please feel free to correct me. :P

I'm sure there's a lovely little inn where I can sing.... err, dance for our supper. Adele can dance and sing too. And Xayden, you've got either drums or bass. On second thought, you'd do better behind the bar. Just don't drink it all.

Hmm, will have to remember to prepare prestidigitation. We can't dance without glitter and sparkles and puffs of colored smoke shaped like glittery scarves. Oh, and did I say glitter yet?

EDIT: If I can get a little better at dancing, (Maybe there's some magic boots out there.) we could take this show on the road, make some REAL money.

GREAT visual, but you guys might have something more important to do in the near future. Maybe.

Joana, I've started reviewing character sheets, and I began with Adele.

After an initial overview, I have a couple of comments...

Spoiler:

1. Can you tell me how you broke down Adele's bonus hit/skill points associated with 5 levels of paladin, her favored class? I can't quite make the skill totals work out, but I think the difference might lie in the answer to this question. It will also allow me to assign her a final hit point total, which will probably be a little higher than the 58 you listed.

2. I figured her final save totals as FORT +12, REF +15, WILL +17. Can you revisit this, and double check?

3. Should damage with her +1 Holy Rapier be +13/+8?

That's all for the moment, pending your answer to question #1 above. Thanks!

Heaven's Agent, I looked over Koveluss...

Spoiler:

I just have a couple comments...

1. It looks like he didn't receive a bonus to HP or skill points from taking a faovred class level. An oversight?

2. I figure his REF save at +3 (+2 class +1 DEX), not +2

Otherwise, he looks great. Don't forget about his xp debt (1000 xp), if you add a section to the sheet about level advancement. Thanks!

Dark Arioch, I went over Liagorba...

She looks just fine, and is approved to start play! Great job.

mordulin, I went over Marcellano first.

My comments:

Spoiler:

Actually, everything looks really good! The only possible error I see is for his power attack with his longsword. If it's a one point Power Attack, shouldn't the damage be only +4? It looks like you took one point away from his attack roll, but added two to the damage line. Everything else looks great, though. Nice job!

Yes, and I'm glad you were watching! You would have had first crack at taking over the vacant slot, in any case. Welcome (again)!!

Sorry to see you go, d'Anconia, btw. But thanks for letting us know forthrightly.

Thanks - will work up a character later today/tonight for you. Currently thinking of a martial character (fighter or rogue), likely a dwarf or half-orc. Not to ask a silly question, but what is the best way for me to get it to you (format/etc.)?

Regards,

AJC

AJC, my preference is that you simply create an alias as your character's name, and then make his/her character sheet as the profile for the character. If you need an example, you need only click on any of the links that the other PCs have done.

If you need assistance, just ask. I'm sure I, or any of your fellow players, would be happy to help.

Genevieve wrote:
That might be an issue... But if Archon Adept is OK with the idea, I could take Infernal Healing from Gods and Magic to counter that a little.

You could do that, I'd have no problem with it.

Darnak Deepstone wrote:

Hey Archon, in Gods and Magic, monks who are followers of Irori can use wholeness of body on a willing creature. It cost the recipient fatigue though. All the deities have certain quirks depending on what class you are. I was wondering if that's allowable.

Sure, I'll go for that.

Genevieve wrote:
Similarly, no background information there yet. I'll get it on later if the messageboards don't die again.

I know, the instability of the boards has definitely made things a bit more difficult. But, things are proceeding apace nonetheless. Keep at it!

Hey guys - I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to bow out. Things have gotten a bit more hectic in real life, and I don't think I'll have the time to give the game the focus it deserves. Hopefully you can get one of the alts in, as I know we had several.

Thanks,
d'Anconia.

Not to try and take advantage of this...but I will. ;) Any chance I can get back in?

I'm done, Joanna looks fantastic, this is going to be a fun game! Elven Rogue gone Duelist, Dwarven Monk trained on Jalmeray, Gnome Cleric of Cayden Cailean, Halfling Paladin/Bard, Varisian Diviner gone Harrower, and little 'ole sinister me!

Agreed, I'm very happy with this mix of players and characters.

With some luck, we may be able to start up the IC thread by the end of the week. :)

Everyone, I have a nice long block of time set aside on Wednesday for the review of character sheets. Does everyone think they can have things finalized for my approval by then?

Heaven's Agent wrote:
That's always a lot of fun; sins of the father, and all that. To bad the Companion didn't inspire anything. Perhaps our generous GM might be able to fit that aspect of our background into the plot somewhere, something for us to confront Pops about (if he's still alive) or find out about along the way?

If inspiration strikes and the timing is right, I'll see what I can work in for you guys. No promises, though.

Leadership is a feat, but it only provides rules for NPC cohorts.

Ah, okay that makes more sense.

Xayden Xailean the Wanderer wrote:

I took scribe scroll, so can I take any of my scrolls at cost?

I was thinking of taking Leadership to get a Griffon Cohort, but I don't see those rules in the book any more...

Yeah, okay, you can purchase scrolls for the cost of creation. But, if you choose any spell with an expensive material component, please add that into the cost.

No more leadership? Huh, I hadn't realized that.

Dark Arioch wrote:
Just as an aside, I thought I would mention that I think the adventure paths are set to fast xp progression. I have run both Curse of the Crimson Throne and Second Darkness and we have had to use the fast track to keep up with the suggested level for each of the chapters. Of course if your thinking of adding some content than it should work.

Your observations are correct, Arioch. However, this AP specifically states in a sidebar that it is written for the medium advancement track.

Uzzy wrote:
Nope, it's in the Cheliax Companion book. Don't know if the DM is going to allow it.

I don't have the book, but I might allow the trait anyway. Can you post the details, please?

Your DM is working hard to get comfortable enough with the final rules to adjudicate the correctness of 9th level character sheets.

I'd be ecstatic if the new version of sCore at RPG Engine would arrive to help me out!

d'Anconia wrote:
Where might I find this "new traits document"? :)

Check out the new Pathfinder resources page. You'll find a link to the traits doc (a free download), and lots of other cool stuff.

And who am I to argue with Zalania Sapphros?

Here are some quick notes regarding character creation.

-15 point buy for stats
-Average starting gold by class
-Max hit points
-Select two traits...one campaign trait from the PG, and one other from the new traits document

That should get you going. But if I forgot anything, just holler.

Guys, I'm in the same camp as Heaven's Agent when it comes to deciding what you want to play. Go with a character that inspires you to post often, and role-play well. Party balance is not unimportant, but it's far from all important.

I have no problem with Calix and HA creating characters that are related, even twins. If it were up to me, I'd probably not go with two bards, but it's not up to me, it's up to you. :)

Uzzy expressed interest in a paladin, so there's some martial muscle for you.

Calixymenthillian wrote:

Ok, an idea is forming for my character.

I'm tempted by a Bard with the Child of Infamy trait - is the identity of the parent/family member quite flexible, or is it defined in the AP?

The details of your proposed character's lineage are not defined in the AP, Calix. So, feel free to take it in whatever direction you like.

Oh, and hey, the question has been answered, as follows:

Nethys wrote:

For the purpose of determining their 'Power Attack' attack penalty / damage bonus, even in a Flurry, use the monk's normal base attack bonus.

Your God of Knowledge,
Nethys

And who am I to argue with Nethys? ;)

Thanks for taking care of it, Joana!

Javell DeLeon wrote:
I have a question about Power Attack. It says it starts out at -1 to hit +2 to damage. Every +4 BA is another -1/+2. Well, a monk's normal BA is +6 but when he flurries it's +9. If I were to take this, would this mean I would always be at -2/+4 because of my normal +6 or would it change to -3/+6 when I flurry?

Ugh, this is the sort of thing that I struggle with. Let me pose this question on the rules forum of the boards, Javell, if you don't mind?
