I would also say it like this. Its not "your first damage roll" but "roll for your first unarmed strike". So i would say with Pummeling Style, maximum Dragon-Style-first-roll-bonus to all!!

I took a look on Ustalav, that seems to be something like I need.

Are there any city adventures with nearly no fighting but with much detective work in any Adventure Path?

Hey together!

I want to make a city adventure as GM, inspired by Sherlock Holmes stories and atmosphere. Therefore a Map or complete setting of a London-like city with a river in the middle would by nice.

I am not so familiar with the Pathfinder Settings, so does someone can tell me a source book or Internet Site, where I can find something fitting my idea, to collect ideas for the setting?

Somewhat Off-Topic:

Will you update the already excisting Genius Guides with Archetype-talents from the ACG??? Or may I in general act like that every Archetype feature from Archetypes in ACG until lvl 10 may be a talent and above an advanced talent?

Brawler! Brawler! Brawler!

... and Swashbuckler deeds.

Without reading the other posts, there is one guy coming to my mind:

Elan from the Order Of The Stick. I would play the character like he acts!

4 people marked this as a favorite.

Okay, that was first step. Now untergo the whole company, to release revised Core Rules, where every class is replaced by Genius Guide to Talented *-Stuff. And if someone asks then: "What? Something changed? As far as I know, the rules where like this since the first publishing of Pathfinder! Never been different, where do you have this strange idea from?"
We all will support you with this biggest Day-of-future-path-action in the history of Roleplaying! ;-)

Okay, now seriously, a warm welcome to you!

I think the whole Martial System needs an overhaul then!

It's true that the whole discussion about Martials not doin' great stuff and Wizards and guys are God-like makes me also tired. Added to that the many threads about "Monk is not doin' damage, and ain't doin something right overall" and "rogues are so completely useless because who cares about skills" will not be fixed if whe stay at the d20 system, except it is changed to it's basics. Go through the forums and collect all great stuff that fans have as homebrew ideas, it will be tons. Why not make a poll about the most important changes to system that would make it balanced? I guess Paizo would get a huge sympathy boost if they make the game a bit more community based!

1. Yeah, I thought a lot about the Ki-Point-thing. I guess it's okay though because you should think about it as a emergency reserve. After all it's a fluff and atmosphere thing, because don't forget you get your whole monk levels added to Ki-points, not the half. So it should not be often that one harms the last points available.
So for example Lvl 4, let's imagine you have a WIS-mod of 3. A normal monk will have 3+2 Ki-Points, to bypass DR he should only use 4. With my monk he will have 3+4 Ki-Points, where 3 should remain, so he should use 4. And he has his emergency reserve, for example, the enemy has just view HP left, but the monk also, so he gives up his bonus to skills and rescue throws to make the additional attack, that he can also use without the flurry, so higher attack. It's a bit dramatic and so as mentioned more fluff than anything else. But a nice monk-ish flavor, in my opinion!

2. Yeah true! Maybe I remove the WIS-possibility, so the monk remains on 2 Abilitys in general, DEX and WIS.

Here is the Link to the PDF with the very first version of the table:
Monk overhaul

Hey Dabbler!

I made an overhaul of the monk and worked in some of the changes you made! May I ask for your opinion about it?

Here is the link: Monk overhaul

My main thing is about the Diamond *-feats, which replace all Still mind, Diamond Soul ...-stuff.
I will upload a document with the table as soon as I can.

Would be nice to get some words about it! If not ... also okay ;-)

Yep, don't want to get on your nervs but I made some thoughts about the monk. My main thing was, that it's stupid to say, that the monk is sooo supernatural. In my opinion a monk seeks inner balance of body, mind and soul and the universe and god and so on. So his Ki-Pool should represent this balance and using Ki points should mean to disturb this. So I changed the Ki Pool and meanlined the monk feats. I don't know how to get a table in here, so at first here are the descriptions of the changed stuff. Deleted are: Still mind, purity of body, wholeness of body diamond body, diamond soul, timeless body.

I took some aspects of Dabblers rework of the monk: http://www.mediafire.com/view/rk8z6uuw061zb0p/Monk%20Amendments.pdf.

Some feats are on different level now, I will make a Google document, where you will see everything. For now, here are the new/changed feats!

The insight bonus mentioned above is equal to the AC bonus!!!

Thank you for comments!

The reworked Monk

Unarmed Strike
The same as Errata +
A monk’s unarmed strike treats the hardness or damage resistance (of any type) of a target as less by one point for every level of monk the character possesses.

Bonus Feat
At 1st level, 2nd level, and every 4 levels thereafter, a monk may select a bonus feat. These feats must be taken from the following list:
Catch Off-Guard, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Dodge, Improved Grapple, Scorpion Style, and Throw Anything.
At 6th level, the following feats are added to the list:
Gorgon's Fist, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Trip, and Mobility.
At 10th level, the following feats are added to the list:
Improved Critical, Medusa's Wrath, Snatch Arrows, and Spring Attack.

He can also choose a combat style feat of his choise.

A monk need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for these feats to select them.

Ki-Pool
At 2th level, a monk gains a pool of ki points, indicator of the monk's training in discovering the secret of live. It represents the ability of the monk to hold his inner balance of body, mind and soul. The number of points in a monk's ki pool is equal to his monk level + his Wisdom modifier.
As long as he has at least a number of Ki-Points equal to his wisdom modifier he is able to use his inner power to get effects represented in the abilities Diamond Body, Diamond Mind and Diamond Soul (see below).
As long as he has at least 1 point in his ki pool, he can make a ki strike (see below).
If needed, he can leave his status of great inner balance, he can let his supernatural energy outburst to accomplish amazing feats.

By spending 1 point from his ki pool, a monk can do one of the following:
Make one additional attack at his highest attack bonus, or
Increase his speed by 20 feet for 1 round, or
Give himself a +4 dodge bonus to AC for 1 round.
Each of these powers is activated as a swift action.
The ki pool is replenished each morning after 8 hours of rest or meditation; these hours do not need to be consecutive.

Ki-strike
A monk uses his monk level in place of his base attack bonus for attacks made with special monk weapons, combat maneuvers, or with the monk’s unarmed strike. Base attack bonuses granted from other classes are unaffected and are added normally.
A monk may choose to use their Wisdom bonus rather than their strength or dexterity bonus for attacks made with special monk weapons, combat maneuvers, or with the monk’s unarmed strike.

Greater Ki-strike
At 5th level the monk adds his insight bonus to attack and damage throws as from the spell greater magic fang.

Diamond Body
At 4th level a monk gets an insight bonus as seen in the table: The monk to every throw for a skill with the DEX or WIS modifier. He adds his WIS modifier and his insight bonus on saving throws against poison, deseases, including supernatural and magical diseases, and magic aging.

Diamond Mind
At 8th level, a monk gains spell resistance equal to his current monk level + 10. In order to affect the monk with a spell, a spellcaster must get a result on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) that equals or exceeds the monk's spell resistance. This resistance can be stopped as a free action and reentered as a swift action.

Diamond Soul
At 12th level or higher, a monk can heal his own wounds and ability damage as a standard action. He can heal a number of hit points of damage equal to his double monk level by using 1 points from his ki pool. He can heal 1 ability point equal to 1/3 of his monk level by using 2 points from his ki pool.

Think of it as an early alpha version!!

@Kazumetsa
How do you get 12 extra attacks? So you have a DEX bonus of +6 and have Combat Reflexes? Is it right this way?
Thank you for sharing your builds! But it's hard to get out which boni are because of items and what spells you take as druid! What are the stats? But very interesting indeed! How does Snake Fang synergize with your Druid dips?

Wait, I didn't read that before! But it's right! As MomS I don't have to take the whole style chain! Great, I have to rethink me character (although It's a Talented Monk from Rogue Genius, but it takes the Style Feats like MomS!)
But as EvilPaladin mentioned: I am Lvl 4 and have already an AC of 20. With all buffs, that I can use (Barkskin, Exploit Weakness, Mage Armor from a Wand/friendly Wizard) I have 28, if I spend a Ki Point 32. I must be very lucky to get that with a Sense Motive Check with a bonus of +10.
I am just asking because everywhere I read: Take Snake style, it's a no discussion point, since Crane Wings are nerved now.
For now I have Dragon Style and later Ferocity and want to go three lines to be useful in combat:

1. Damage in general
2. Stunning Fist
3. Trip

So the first two are touched by Dragon Style, no I thought about Mantis or Snake.

mhm...

Thank you for the answers.

Does someone use Snake style? Is the Sense Motive AC thing really so good. Because to get Snake Fang, these are 3 feats, and the first two don't sound so good to me! I don't know if it's worth?

I read about Wolf. But it seems very situational. How is it in playing practice?

THe Djinni thing sounds interesting!

With the Efreeti style, I read, I will do damage, also if I miss. Okay its 1d6, but it's something! What do you think?

Hey together, another question for my favorite class - the monk!

Which combat style paths work good for you in practice?
Are the elemental strike buffing style feats worth to take?
Are there combinations with great synergy that REALLY work in your game?

Thanks for answers!

@Grizzly: What is the source of the hand wraps?? Didn't find it in SRD...

Hello together,

my favorite class is the monk. We all know, that this class is not only hard to play but also a bit nerved in the last years by Paizo... at least, that's the opinion of many of the gamers.

So this thread is about collecting every new fact about the monk, from Campaign Books, Adventure Paths, revised Errata ....
So to be up to date and don't miss something, because with a class like the monk, one should know EVERY possibility to get it working.
So post new feats, new traits, new Archetypes, new Magic Items ... that could help to make the monk better.

Everything allowed as long as its no complete reversed monk-version by third-party publishers.
For that, there is a thread (ATTENTION Advertisment ;-)) also started by me, for the Talented Monk:
Genius Guide Builds

Greetings!

#1 From last months: The nerved Crane Wing:

Love the sheets.

Have you decided that you hate yourself enough to make them all form-fillable? :P

Will these be updated to include the forthcoming Path of War from DSP and the Advanced Class Guide from Paizo?

+1 for this!!

I know, it's not the best solution for a new player, but I would suggest the "Genius Guide to the talented Monk". In fact this takes all monk-Archetypes, split their talents, and let you choose the one you like, by also not being overpowered.
This way, you get basicly a full BAB for your favored weapon, no matter if you flurry or not, could take the Exploit Weakness-Feat but also a Ki-Pool, which offers you great possibilities in Combat Tactics. But the bad is, it's a little difficult for newbies. But it's fun, and maybe this helps throw the harsh beginning.
The PDF is not expensive, and I think, it should be the standard for every monk!

This is great! It reminds of the smith in the Asterix-Comics!

The interesting thing is, that if one hears, more possibilities in character building, often thinks about powergaming and get a Tier 3 or 2 version of the monk.

The truth is, as long as you know, no matter how you build your character, you will have your role in team, you can much more focus on roleplaying and interesting background. This is completely another situation then: "Oh my god, if I take ONE bad feat, I will be useless for the whole game!"

This is in my opinion what the talented series delivers.
And if you want to flurry with a leek. Do it, you will be the first Househusband, of whom Orcs will be afraid of!

That makes roleplaying great!

Glad you like it! :-)
I want to lose some words about my Tiefling-monk with the point oft tactics:
What I like about the character is the need of tactical fight. I have to look at the enemy and decide: Exploit Weakness +2 AC or Attack? EW or Dragon style if I only have the chance to do one. Power Attack or Flurry? Trip at first and stun after it or the other way around? Spend the rare ki-points in bonus on AC or gain extra Attack. How to use my move action if flatfooded, steal away or get in good fighting pose. Fight defensely with the aim of Crane Style or go all in one with Power Attack.... and so on and so on. Mainly: Go DEF or OFFENSE???
I guess no fight will be boring and every single one will be different. That's why, I guess this character is very nice to play.
Also: Class skill in disable Device and Diplomatics because of traits. This isn't just an tumb fighter he will do his job also in scouting (with the help of Acrobatics and Stealth) and social life (with the help of sense motive and Intimidate) Not as good as a rogue but fair!

Okay, I see what your character is about. But one thing comes to my mind:

You take very much Ki-Power stuff. But will you also have enough Points to trigger them? Maybe you should take one or two talents of Hungry Ghost Monk, to be prepared!

And did you read about Snake style and Snake fang? I think this would fit perfect in your build! So if your GM doesn't let you do your Bladed Dash thing, maybe this could be your way to go!

Hello together! Because there is not much to find in Internet, I start that thread to get together your favorite talented monk builds. Dipping with other talented classes is okay, but it should be mainly monk!
Maybe this is also some advertisment for this great pdf, so let us show how highly personal optimized monks work thanks to Owen K.C. Stephens!

Here is my build, have fun!

This is a street fighter style, lived on the street, was leader of a street gang, Gangs of New York Style. But his Gang was killed by another, so he left his city, and one day will come back for revenge!
