I like the idea of blackguard as a core class. One of teh few splat books I allowed in my campaigns was "Unholy Warrior" by Green Ronin.

If the BG does become a core class, I'd say that the rules for fallen paladins becomings BGs need to be retained.

McCain is a part of the political machine, Obama is a sleeze, Ron Paul is a wacko, Bob Barr is..., hell, how to describe him?

I think I might just write myself in...I'm 38 and an Army vet. Either that or join the Michael Savage's 3rd party....

And for my part, the reason I disliked TNE so much back in the day was the two major changes....change in setting and change in system. Both at tthe same time was too much to swallow.

Ok, I can accept that! :)

I'd say playwise that 4E is probably quicker in operation...such is my feel and experience thus far. On the flip side, charting out your character in 4E is a little tricky at this stage.

Now, 3.5's biggest strength is, imho opinion, also its greats weakness: options, lots of options. The DM has to be on tyop of his game to keep up with everrything, and have the guts to tell his players "No!" quite frequently. However, it also allows one to get a better grip on his characte than 4E does...PrCs are better than epic play in 4E.

Now, although I did say that 4E appears to play quicker than 3.5, that does not mean that I dislike the way 3.5 plays. 4E's ease of play just barely squeaks past 3.5 in a photo finish.

I can't really comment on Pathfinder yet; my alt has been C&C lately! Before that it was Hackmaster! :)

Is there any reason, and I ask this in seriousness, that you are not considering other d20/ogl fantasy games like Conan or C&C?

Have to go with either Classic or Mongoose. If you play GURPS, the G-T is excellent, otherwise, no.

And don't get me started on TNE....! ;)

Of course, the GM doesn't have to allow Jedi characters in his game...the DarkStryder campaign setting had one force sensitive character in the group and recommended highly that the GM not allow any others (for metagame plot reasons, true, but still...)

Don't forget changes to the PCs themselves. Maybe they've aged, losing some ST and CON (ala the 1E aging tables). Did they keep all of their old gear, or maybe keep a magic sword and a ring or 2. (Note in LotR, Bilbo didn't actually keep Sting and the mithril shirt at Baggend; it was actually on display at the Mathom House in Michel Delving)

Combined with some of the other ideas, could make for an interesting adventure.

Also, maybe the coming of age idea could be a way to work in new low-level Pcs for the start of a new campaign to gve a sense of continuity to the players.

I started my 2 oldest daughters on Hackmaster 3 years ago; they were 7 and 9. They did the die-rolling for character craetion and I asked a lot of questions as we worked our way through character creation (I've been gaming since I was 12, 26 years now, and it sill takes me about 90 minutes to make a HM PC!).

They gamed fine (in a group that included by wife and two late 20's yos); I rememeber the guys were a little apprehensive at first, but hey figured out real quick that the girls gamed like anyone else new to the game and learned lessons (don't fire into melee!) really quick. The girls stayed with the campaign until it wound down about a year ago. I really need to get soemthing else going! :)

Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen. The Wilderlands are currently being ported to Castles and Crusades. That might change in the future,, but I don't know...before he died Bob Bledsaw seemed sort of irked about 4E.

Have to agree....WotC's adventures seem pretty mediocre so far. I'm waiting on my Good, man mods to arrive in the mail, but i have high hopes for them. I've quite a few of their d2o DCC-line and /i have high hopes. :D

Personally, I think there is little out that TSR/ WotC has done that captures the feel of the stuff like Temple of Elemental Evil or Queen of the Demonweb or Ravenloft (the module, I6). Necro and Goodman ahve pulled off some good stuff, though. One reason iw as glad to see that this had gone up: http://www.necromancergames.com/

Necro web site wrote:

With the new announcement by Wizards of the Coast that publishers like Necromancer Games will be able to support the new Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition rules, Necro is going 4E! That's right, "Fourth Edition Rules, First Edition Feel"!

We have yet to see the Game System License that will govern the exact products we can create, but you can expect the following products from Necromancer Games:

~snip~

Winter's Tomb: A free introductory pdf adventure similar to Necro's classic Wizard's Amulet. Complete with pregenerated characters. Written by Clark Peterson. To be released as soon as legally possible.
Free pdf.

need to part with another? :)

Those both look pretty sweet...and with so few company's jumping in on the GSL, Goodman has a leg up already on the competition by answering gamers' needs ahead of the competition.
