Well I'm not antipiating a huge amount of interest so you're pretty much guaranteed an in to this one unless you do something ridiculously inappropriate!

Alright. On the basis that I have it already and that it was a good suggestion, I'm going to go with Molech's idea and offer a War for the Crown AP using the Legend in the Mist system. I'll post an interest check on the recruitment thread this weekend.

And regarding 'War for the Crown' as Legend in the Mist -- I 100% agree that a DM has to run what they love. I think that perhaps the most successful ingredient in a game being fun is the DM's zest and passion for the campaign. The more the DM is into it, the more prep work, the more energy, the more love there will be in presenting the game to the players. So absolutely -- you gotta go for RotRL if you're passionate about it!

This is good advice, thank you :)

It looks like you have clear ideas about CoT so I might leave that to you. Let me look at the APs again and see what inspires me.

Interestingly(?) the Council of Thieves AP was what someone used for a Savage Worlds playtest I was part of, it didn't get very far unfortunately. It's not an AP I know really at all but I'm willing to get a copy and have a look.

I get that, but if you're driving a vehicle you're unfamiliar with it's good to try it on a road you know well.

My thinking anyway :)

(But yes, I'd consider War for the Crown as an option)

Honestly, I find the d20 based system hard to like: the fact that you're as likely to roll a 1 as a 20 just feels off to me. I do know that in a 2d6 system you're exactly as likely to roll a 2 as a 12, but you're far more likely not to and for me that is a useful point of difference.

In the 2d6 system, a 6 or less is a fail, a 7-9 succeeds with consequences and a 10+ is a full success. Looking at the odds (without modifiers) your chances of roling a 6 or less is 15/36, your chance of a 7-9 is 15/36 and your chance of a 10-12 is 6/36.

Translating that into d20 means that 8 (really 8.3 recurring but I'll let you have that) or lower is a fail, 17-20 is a full success (again amending the odds to favour the player) and a 9-16 is success with consequences.

The issue I have there is that in a 2d6 system, throwing a couple of tags in can really shift things in your favour, but as you will be aware from playing D&D, a +2 modifier to a d20 roll is really not that useful.

But I'm a maths and science girl so what do you expect ;)

@Honeylyn, if there's an AP you'd prefer to have a go with in this system then ask and I may deliver ^_^

I'm afraid I only got into D&D/PF/whatever this century, like 15 or so years ago, but I really enjoy it.

Your concept sounds intriguing and I'm looking forward to hearing more!

I have to say I like the gaming system we've used here, it has a simplicity to it that appeals. I might do an interest check at some point next week for an AP (probably Rise of the Runelords) that's run using the Legend in the Mist gaming system, you would be welcome to join it :)

I'm interested too, although isn't Call of Chthulu one of those games where everyone dies/goes mad before getting to the end?

Annelise is at home in the streets of Sasserine but here she feels very much out of her depth, and it is nothing to do with the water they're wading in. She follows the others, making sure that the rope they are using is securely tied.

Sorry all, I had a family emergency that meant lots of travel and not much time to post. I'm back now and will put something up in gameplay.

To be clear, I think it's a great example of something you can do with this game system that you could only do in D&D with a mountain of houserules and/or a sympathetic GM. I'd be up for giving it a go, it's just Annelise who is skeptical about magic :)

Former Gang Enforcer; Survived Sasserine's Streets; Nimble Half-Elf; Seeking Redemption / Unsavoury Reputation; Ignorant Of The Outside World; Family Ties; Old Enemies

Annelise looks dubious. "And if it doesn't work, it risks bring the whole thing crashing down on our heads. I don't like swimming. I'd like being buried under tons of rubble even less."

Her green eyes stare at them both. "You'd better be sure this will work."

Neither of those is appealing, but only one of them (the harbour) sounds even like it's possible, unless there's some way we could climb up the well and dislodge the boulders?

Former Gang Enforcer; Survived Sasserine's Streets; Nimble Half-Elf; Seeking Redemption / Unsavoury Reputation; Ignorant Of The Outside World; Family Ties; Old Enemies

Annelise turns down Milton's offer of the gem. "I'd hate for it to break when someone hit me, that's an extra complication I don't need."

Once they are loaded up with the money that they can carry, she looks around. "We still need a way out."

Former Gang Enforcer; Survived Sasserine's Streets; Nimble Half-Elf; Seeking Redemption / Unsavoury Reputation; Ignorant Of The Outside World; Family Ties; Old Enemies

Annelise opens her eyes wide for a moment as the sheer quantity of wealth registers on even her normally unflappable mind. "Is this - yours?" she asks Lavinia.

She very much hopes the answer is no - even after they divide this up among the group, there's enough here to cover her expenses for the foreseeable. Maybe even enough to start dreaming of a way out for her family from the slums of Shadowshore.

I'm torn between wanting to give Honeylyn time to do her thing and wanting to move the game on. Can we say that if there's nothing in 24 hours, Annelise will bash it open?

She gives the others a quick smile, althoough she's probably the only one who finds the situation amusing. "Not the first time I've been told 'I want them to know it was me'. But it IS the first time I've been told that by someone who's already dead." A street scavenger by nature, she is already hoicking the leather armour off the corpse even as she talks to the others.

Do I need to wait for a new tag slot to open (ie 3 XP in one theme) in order to add the [leather armour] to my character?

Former Gang Enforcer; Survived Sasserine's Streets; Nimble Half-Elf; Seeking Redemption / Unsavoury Reputation; Ignorant Of The Outside World; Family Ties; Old Enemies

Annelise visibly winces at the word "swim" but she gives a commiserating look to Lavinia. "Family can be difficult. I have to say, though, that your brother has a real talent for making eneimies."

Annelise carefully cleans her knives before stowing them away again. As the others deal with the newcomer - presumaby Vanthus' sister - she takes a quick look at Svetozar's injury.

"That does't look good. I've seen a few wounds in my time but this is new." She does her best to help him clean the bite wound but this is outside her experience.

Despite the chaos and the melee, Annelise keeps a clear head, as only someone with the experience of surviving many, many fights before this one can do. The best thing she can do right now is finish off the thing she already sliced up. Then she can help Svetozar. Assuming he's still alive at that point. But if she isn't alive, she can't help anyone.

Reversing the grip on her sharp blades, she cuts deeply into dead flesh, separating sinew from muscle and cartilage from bone. If it can't stand, or use its arms, it's not really a threat.

"I don't think so." You don't survive in Sasserine's streets for as long as Annelise has if you lose track of your enemies. Annelise's keen half-elf senses mean that even in the dark of this tunnel, shes' not at a disadvantage. The fact that conditions are slippery underfoot helps her now as she twists away and uses the thing's own weight against it, pushing the knee joint so it bends in the wrong way to help her slip out from its grasp.

I agree.

I also think gaming has maybe jaded us to the point where a dead thing brought to ravenous, murderous, life isn't both evil and supernatural. To a person living in a world where such things are possible, it may be more fearsome.

Nevertheless, it's your choice, it's solid, and (like you said) it wouldn't make a difference.

Is there maybe a distcintion to be made between animated things like zombies (or whatever these are) and actively conscious/sentient/malevolent undead? Maybe Svetozar's Holy Warrior tag would work against the second but not the first?

Obvsiously it's his tag so it plays how he likes :)

Annelise looks at the odds. Four is a challenge if they work together, but odds are these things won't do that.

She hopes.

Most of what she knows won't work: you can't hurt them, and slashing a vein or artery won't put them down the way it would do to a person. But enough of what she can do still works. A kick that shatters a kneecap will make one of these things fall over, and a blade that slices a tendon will make a limb unusable.

She hopes.

Blades ready, she moves swiftly forward, trying not to get tangled up with these things. She remembers how Svetozar got in trouble.

Her sharp ears, generally hidden under her tangle of hair, prick up as she catches the sounds of more moans. "Let's try not to draw attention."

At the sight of the collapsed ceealing closing off the obvious way of escape, she gives another shrug. "Naturally. Why would this be easy?"

Annelise gives a brief flicker of annoyance towards Svetozar as he shoves her out the way, but she's been in worse situations. In some ways, having something to vent her annoyance on is a relief.

She nimbly rights her balance, and darts forward with a sharp blade in each hand. The dark of the tunnel doesn't seem to bother her now that she has some light source, however dim, to work with. Ignoring the hapless Svetozar, she cuts at the dead thing in places she knows will work even on something that can't feel pain: tendons at the knees, elbows and wrists. If the thing can't stand or use its arms, it's much less of a threat.

"This isn't personal. I'm just going through some stuff right now and it's nice to have something to stab that's already dead, you know? Less guilt to deal with."

She doesn't expect it to respond. But she feels better already.

Hapy for Annelise to be a the front

Annelise peers into the dark, trying to see what's coming their way. The passageway is a tight fit but she scrambles into the front - she's getting to know the others but she doesn't see any of them as hitters, with the possible exception of the cat.

"Whatever's coming our way, it's no more dangerous than we are." There's a cool confidence to her words, despite the fact she is way outside her usual territory.

Annelise bends down to check Shefton's body, if only through force of habit. Even if his throat wasn't cut, he'd never survive that sort of fall. "Should have stayed in town," she murmurs. It's unclear whether she's talking to herself or the corpse.

"OK, our way up is gone so our onwly way out is through." At the sound of splashing, she draws a blade from inside her clothing. "If anyone has light, now would be the time to show off." She turns to face whatever is making the splashing sound, knives at the ready.

It's strange how close you can be to town and yet so completely unfamiliar. Annelise does her best not to let it get to her, but the noise of the parrots and the thickness of the jungle around her is strange and therefore threatening.
