Angel Eyes keeps a sharp watch on their backtrail to make sure they aren't followed as they make their way out of town, but finds himself consistently distracted and daydreaming about the contents of that safe. Gold? Or maybe something that will help to explain the impossible events of last night? The gunslinger is, in fact, beginning to wonder if the whole thing was some sort of bizarre hallucination.

Angel Eyes regards the sheriff and his cronies with a sneer on his lips, then touches his gun hand to the brim of his hat, dipping it slightly in a gesture of farewell. He is curious to hear the cowardly lawman's reaction to Culver's words, but doesn't much care either way. With money in their pockets and a possible means of cracking that safe they buried a ways out of town, the gunslinger has no desire to stick around anyway.

Angel Eyes smiles grimly, but his eyes are flat and dangerous as his hand strays toward his gunbelt. "I don't think so, sheriff." He pronounces the last word as though spitting a curse. "We've had a taste of how you treat those that cross Slade - and we've seen with our own eyes that he's not what you call nice folk. Now why don't you and your men turn around and leave us to our own. We only fought to protect ourselves when violence was brought against us. Whether you consider us lawmen or not, we plan on figuring out what sort of bad business Slade and his men are up to in these parts. That is, if his 'men' can be called that at all."

Intimidate Check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Going to try and get the sheriff and his men to back down and maybe spill some information on us with an Intimidate check. Though probably not with that lousy roll...

Angel Eyes hunkers by the small fire and glances sideways at Li. "Seems to me like there's not much left to burn. But if you want to go picking through the ashes feel free." He considers Antonio's question for a bit longer, then lights one of his cigars on a glowing bit of charred log before rising to his feet, gesturing toward his mule. "We've got a fair bit of merchandise to sell. I think it'd be a lot easier to carry if it were turned into cash. Not to mention the safe. It might have some clues inside to help us understand exactly what we're dealing with here."

Li, I think we've already burned the place down. I'd suggest we head back to town, sell what we can of the loot we've taken and then find a way to bust into that safe. Maybe we can hire a locksmith willing to take a bit more cash to keep quiet about what we're hiring him to do.

Angel Eyes nods in agreement with the plan. When Culver speaks of their outlaw status, the gunslinger shrugs. "Wearing a badge doesn't always mean a person's doing right." Figuring that one of the others will wake him for his shift at watch, Angel Eyes lays out his bedroll to provide himself a bit of comfort and rolls up his serape as a makeshift pillow. Laying his head down, he tilts his hat forward to cover his eyes and is soon snoring softly...

Angel Eyes considers their situation for a few moments as he watches the house burn, then speaks thoughtfully. "Might be we'll have better luck figuring out where Slade went when the sun comes up. I don't know how he managed that parlor trick of turning into a puff of smoke, but a man can't just disappear like that. If we don't find any trace of him though, maybe someone back in town can make sense of this book we found. There's also the little matter of the safe. We can probably find someone to help us with both, if we're willing to throw some money around."

I suggest that we try the following in order:
1) Check out the scene of battle during daylight and scout around, trying to find tracks or the like;
2) Head back to town and try to get that witch's journal deciphered;
3) Head back to town and try to get that safe open!

Angel Eyes strokes his chin thoughtfully as he gazes at the safe. "Maybe we can pry it of the wall and get it open later. Might be something valuable in there. Or at least maybe something that'll help explain what we've seen tonight."

The gunslinger will help in the labor of getting the safe out of the wall, if it's of a size that his mule can carry. He agrees with Perry that there isn't any reason to stick around this place any longer.

Angel Eyes takes a look at the safe, but the gunslinger can only shrug. "Stick of dynamite could do the trick, but I don't have anything like that on me. Could be the key is hidden around here somewhere, but more likely that crafty son-of-a-b&!$% had it on him when he escaped us."

Angel Eyes glances over the witch's belongings with only mild interest, though he takes a sniff of the vials to determine if they might be alcohol of some kind. He could certainly use a stiff drink!

"Yeah, let's burn these bodies and head to the farm. Maybe we'll find some answers there, if nothing else." The gunslinger growls as he hands the vials over to whoever wants to carry them after deciding he'd rather not drink anything carried by the witch. A primal part of his mind wonders if they might be potions that would turn him into a walking dead man like those they just fought...

"What the hell is this?" Angel Eyes grunts, his eyes narrowed and a sliver of fear in his voice. "Folk don't just disappear in a puff of smoke like that. And these men... Were they already dead before we shot them down? They sure don't seem right..."

The gunslinger reloads his pistol as he speaks, his eyes watchful for any further threats as he waits for some answers.

Cursing as two of the enemy seem to be getting away, Angel Eyes hustles forward to take care of the cowboy... zombies(?) that still threaten the others, but then grins as Curly's shot takes the witch down. The gunslinger raises his pistol and fires at one of the cowboys threatening Li Wei - who speaks inspiring words that seem to bolster his spirit.

Move 30', fire pistol at orange zombie cowboy. No penalty for firing into a melee, but the 40' range gives me a -2 penalty and no attack vs touch AC

Angel Eyes snarls in disgust as the feral man scampers toward him with elongated, sharp claws. He grunts in pain as the talons tear through his shirt, leaving deep gouges on his chest and the gunslinger backs up another step as he fires point blank at his assailant.

I think I regained a grit point for taking down purple, and if so will promptly use that grit again to hopefully do extra damage using Up Close and Deadly deed to maybe bring down brown as well. But damn, that d20 roll is very, very low - even against touch AC... I guess even if I miss it'll do 1 point of damage.

Angel Eyes fires a shot at the spooky witch, moving a bit closer if he has to, in order to close the distance. But then he curses as the gun misfires...

Angel Eyes shakes his head as though to clear his vision, not quite believing what his own senses are telling him. The dead brought back to life? It couldn't me, the man must be in some sort of a trance, and it only appears as though McInyrne is eating his heart. He frowns as Curly calls out, the gunslinger figuring that having the drop on these bloodthirsty savages shouldn't be wasted. Still, the rifleman has a point in that they are acting deputies and so Angel Eyes instead takes aim at the old woman, waiting to pull the trigger and put the witch down for good if any of them reaches for a gun or comes at them.

Angel Eyes squints at the wolf as they approach, and then watches in stunned silence as it suddenly turns to ash! He glances around and speaks softly, still not quite trusting what his eyes just saw. "Never heard of a wolf that could do that. Wonder if there are others about." The gunslinger takes a moment to load bullets into the empty chambers of his pistol.

Angel Eyes darts toward the barn, using the wall for cover and then brings his pistol up and fires at the red-eyed wolf!

Move 30' to barn to get with PB range, use wall corner for cover (not that it'll do much good once it closes in on me...) and shoot the darn thing. Will use a grit point for the Up Close and Deadly deed too.
Pretty sure that's gonna be a big fat miss anyway, but the grit deed allows me to do 1 point of 'grazing' damage at least.

Feeling the hairs on his neck rise up, the gunslinger simply nods and heads stealthily around the house with the others as he draws his pistol, his eyes on the lookout for whatever made that awful sound. Wolf? Didn't sound like one... Angel Eyes considers the wild tales about creatures with red eyes and wonders if there could be any truth to them at all...

The man called Angel Eyes is tall and raw-boned, his skin weathered by the sun but still fair and more likely to burn than to tan. He wears a flat-brimmed hat and a serape hangs over his shoulders, barely concealing the gunbelt and pistol that hangs at his hip. His eyes are a grey-blue, and his lined face is usually set in an expression of vague amusement.

When Henry speaks his piece, the gunslinger chuckles and lights a cigar he pulls from the breast pocket of a pale blue chambray shirt. "I think that idea would have saved us a lot of trouble, friend. If we run across these men again, I'll supply the rope. If any of them are still able to stand up long enough to slip their head through the noose."

Just think of Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name from Fistful of Dollars and you've got a good idea of what Angel Eyes looks like - but I liked the nickname of Lee Van Cleef's character from The Good The Bad and The Ugly. :)

Angel Eyes nods at Curly's observations. "I think that lawman is a coward, and not willing to stand up to this Slade fellow. Probably a big reason he's gotten so powerful is that he'll run over anyone that stands in his way, and if the law won't stand up to him, it's not likely anyone else would either. I've known a few men like him in my day..." The gunslinger trails off, his eyes narrowed and his expression bleak.

Angel Eyes frowns as they finish up chatting with the sheriff. The gunslinger's estimation of the man continues to spiral downward. He figures that the old coward let Slade's men go because he doesn't have the stones to stand up to the man, even though the badge he wears demands it of him. Especially when Slade McInyrne is up to no good, which Angel Eyes figures is exactly the case.

As he mounts up and turns his mule toward Serenity ranch, Angel Eyes figures they'll find out if that's true or not soon enough...

Angel Eyes gazes at the ceiling for a moment before speaking again. "Seems to me that if Cordon's boys killed their boss, they would have put down the attackers like dogs and dragged them here dead instead of alive so they could tell another story. I reckon the men you had in the cell are the murderers, but I suppose we'll find out soon enough. I'm fair sure that once those men get to Cordon's boys, there'll be a fight sure enough. You know much about this Slade McInyrne? Any rumors or the like?"

Once they learn what they can from the sheriff, Angel Eyes is ready to head out. Maybe they can get to Serenity Ranch before those men can do the same, for the gunslinger is dead certain that's where they're headed.

No further purchases, unless we know we'll need to pack in more rations or something?

Angel Eyes shrugs. "Won't hurt to get the story from those men. If we wait too long they might get lucky and get busted out. Or maybe helped into a shallow hole to keep their mouths shut. I could stand to rest a few more days myself before we get caught up in anything else." A thin smile plays across his lips. "The money we made from the reward should help me find plenty of ways to pass the time in comfort."

That split works for me! I'm for getting some information from those men before something happens to them, one way or the other. GM, how much ammo did we get to split? Angel Eyes will go ahead and take another pistol from the salvaged equipment as a backup, I suppose. Unless the extra pistols have already been taken or sold off?

Angel Eyes shrugs indifferently. "We'll be over after we settle with the bank on the bounty for the men we brought back. Maybe we can get some cash for their guns too."

The gunslinger heads back to his room and changes the bandages on his wounds after getting hold of some basic first aid supplies. After that he'll look into selling the equipment held by the bandits (unless anything looks to be worth keeping - namely bullets and/or cartridges) before returning to the bar and proceeding to eat and get mildly drunk before turning in for the night.

Sounds good, let's see about selling their weapons (and taking whatever might be of use to us) and splitting the profits. In the morning we can deal with the bank for the bounty, then question those men. Presuming we get through the night OK, I've added 1 HP to my current total.

Angel Eyes wanders over to take a look at the prisoners. "That right? What is it these... cowpokes said these men and the rancher did? This fella have any enemies? Could be looking for an excuse to start something, just as you say."

Angel Eyes smiles amiably, but there is a steel in his grey eyes. "We did, and I reckon that'll have some sort of an effect on the offered reward for the bandits? I don't recall there being any mention of bringing their ill-gotten gains in as part of the offered bounty."

The gunslinger lights one of his cigars after striking the match on the stiff, stubbly cheek of one of the corpses they've displayed for the sheriff.
