Very well, Dolgrin. I like having at least a plan, since our searches around here aren't proving fruitful! - says the Paladin, moving with the Dwarf towards the docks with her sword drawn.

Aleranna tries to aid to the best of her skills as the group searches for clues as to where the people here would have gone.

I'm not sure how you can determine that fast that there are no signs of battle, but I'm glad to hear so. This might mean we have more survivors. - she completes, somewhat showing that her priorities might be to the well being of people.

They may also be hidden in these constructions, right? Maybe there are some trapdoors around? I feel we should inspect the buildings before moving ahead.

Agreed, Dolgrin. We should head to the beach and start checking the town... We may even be able to find survivors. I fear the grindylow may have overran the city, which pains my heart. - says the Paladin, herself moving towards the shore to start exploring.

Aleranna jumps at the water, seeking to attack the closest enemy to her. Despite not being an efficient weapon underwater, she pulls her elven curveblade and tries to use it before the enemy has chance to act.

Agreed... - says the paladin, nodding to Britta - Let's be ready from now on. Whatever happened here, may still represent danger for us.

Aleranna is already covered in her breastplate, but the long elven blade isn't sheathed as she helps with the oars as the boat approaches the sandbar.

Aleranna scratches her nose, careful as to not hurt herself with her nails - a bit longer due to the long trip. She holds for the others to chime in.

The paladin picks the spyglass and looks, and her usually upbeat expression is replaced by one of desolation.

Yes... I... I see it. - she mutters, passing the spyglass to the others.

As the rest of the party looks at it, she continues speaking with Ramona.

Please, count with me... With us, rather, as I bet my colleagues share the same desire. - brief pause - We will take a boat and go explore it. Hopefully we can still find people alive, and they just had to abandon this village due to some... Inconvenience.

Even she finds hard to believe her own optimism, but yet she tries to stay positive as she waits for the others to ponder.

Aleranna approaches Ramona with a steady attitude. The Chelaxian half-elf carried some beauty on her - something rustic, tomboy, from someone raised in a humble environment. After the many weeks sailing, her pitch black hair wasn't nicely brushed anymore, and her skin showed a healthy tanning; she still made an effort to somewhat keep herself and her clothes clean, but in truth she was more practical than vain.

At that morning she isn't using her breastplate, and is only carrying her small, sheathed leafblade. Arms crossed behind the back, the one true object calling attention is the crystal-shaped wooden holy symbol of the elven goddess Yuelral, the Wise, that the paladin showed about her grey linen shirt.

The Eagle Knights recruit does a quick nod with her head, looking the expedition leader in her eyes, but doesn't say a word. She waits for Ramona to speak; instead, she blinks an eye towards Britta, breaking the ice, greeting her fellow expeditioner with a fast, quick smile.

I actually agree with Dolgrin that maybe it's not really a good idea this "feat for class feature" thing. Even across the Ex features, they're not really balanced - the classes aren't balanced feature by feature, by actually as a whole. With that said, I'd like to bring out some options...

1 - Let's simply not go with this "feat for feature" system at all. Let's work within our classes and limitations! We're already powerful enough with all the boosted attributes and extras the GM gave... Plus people can use the balanced-by-Paizo VMC system if they want to. Of course, the GM is free to do whatever he wants with their NPCs. I'm referring to the PCs!

2 - Let's embrace the multiclass thing beyond, and simply convert into a gestalt game. It's an already used system, and likely the more balanced. With a small party it can work well, especially if the GM boost the enemies accordingly. In this case, I'd recommend even removing the extra feats.

3 - Adopt the "custom class" system thing. I don't have the link but I'm sure other people in the forums will have - I saw that used before in my in-person game. It's a system that associates points to class features and other things to allow people to customize classes of their own.

I prefer any of the three options above, if you'd allow me to be so bold to say so. They will end up being more balanced and fun to everybody, hopefully preventing power creep of one PC or another, and at least they help us keep on the theme/concept we originally went for.

Yeah, I'm keeping Dungeoneering, despite not being a class skill either :) I was mostly referring to exchanging Local for Planes, if we need coverage for it. It's almost tempting to get Bardic Knowledge, to be honest, just to be able to deal with knowledges for the party if it's a need.

Yet, I'm more concerned with healing! Well, and with the hippocampus I will have by level 5, which really god knows why anyone would want it.

I can move my point from local to planes, but honestly I'd never be great rolling for either, as they aren't class skills :)

Unfortunately as a Paladin Aleranna also starves on skill points (to be able to properly help with disable device/trapfinding... I didn't even have the points for perception!).

Worse, while I will get Lay on Hands, my archetype changes my spell list to that of the bloodrager, so she won't be really useful with the common divine spells. Ugh I hate that part of the archetype! I hate the hippocampus too, but let's not even get there. It's a thematic archetype at least.

I always thought of her more of a tank than anything else, but I'm willing to start shifting things around if the GM allows and if there's anything I can do to help the group.

I thought about using the alternate class skills rules to get some powerful stuff like favored enemy, sneak attack, rage, challenge, order, damage reduction, panache, etc., but honestly I'd rather not go for the optimization and stay in flavor :) we're already so powerful!

Hi GM! Thanks for the selection! Very excited to play an AP I never actually touched before! I’ll post in more details about Aleranna later. Cheers

@GM, would it be okay to keep Aleranna with the current crunch as a proposed concept, and then (if she is accepted) we work together and make adjusts to it? There are several things I could change to make her serve into other roles in the party, but I was wondering if I can propose her with a "fresh"/"clean" concept, and later on adjust accordingly to match the party needs.

It almost feels like I should "buy" Rage with a feat, or Favored Enemy, or Sneak Attack :) So many great ones! @GM, honestly, maybe the feat for feature thing should be a bit more limited. There's even that system (I don't remember the URL!) someone created for people to tailor classes of their own!

Please allow me a suggestion, if you don't mind, and my apologies if I'm out of place: maybe when you do the selection, focus on the concepts per se (how real/rich/interesting the characters look?) more than the mechanics... And once people are selected, work with the group to improve the characters in such way that their sheets better reflect the concepts they presented? :)

Sorry, I guess I'm just a sucker for RP/concepts/etc. and want to suggest the emphasis to go on it! Hah! :$

Take your time, GM! Excited with the opportunity. Like I said, the only actual AP I haven’t played or GMed! I’ll gladly detail anything you need, or change on my little pally girl :)

Hi DM Skull! Here's Lapyd with the character I proposed - Aleranna is a Half-Elf (aquatic) Paladin (Pearl Seeker) :) Her background and crunch are in the profile, and I might be adding some more stuff (her behavior, appearance, etc.) over the next few days. Thanks again for the opportunity to apply!

Honestly, I think my bard is in good company here in the applications. Many fun concepts. Reading through the existing players made me exclude some ideas I originally had (like I said, I never really did play as an evil character... A maximum as an evil NPC, so I didn't know where to start!). Anyway, looking forward to the GM selections.

Hi GM, it's Lapyd here! Thanks for allowing this newbie here to apply :) I'm introducing Arboretta, a bard designed to work more out of combat with skills/etc., and in combat serve more as a buffer / controller / wand yielder. Thanks for the consideration!
