![]() Well, I think there's a reason why she was used sparingly. I don't recall it being talked about overmuch, but non-telepaths constantly being "read" by a superior officer (or at least worried about being read) would feel very uncomfortable I imagine. And in a PbP, how would that work? Would we be constantly expected to come up with surface thoughts every time we posted? Or is that not how Star Trek telepathy works? ![]()

Nice to hear this acknowledged, although I'm not upset over it or anything. Normally I'm happy to wait until it's my turn to do something, but the (justifiably) slow pace can make the wait long. And I'll be honest: I've forgotten the rules. :) I've made one roll since the game started, but now I'll have to re-look up how to apply Attributes, Disciplines, Values, Talents, etc. when I next need to break out the dice tags. One question: how did Yeoman Brevik come to be? He's getting a lot of duties for an NPC that I don't understand. Not griping, just confused. ![]()
![]() Lt. Ojo tries to determine which direction the shuttle is heading. If he can do so, he'll announce its heading. If he can't, he'll ask for it aloud. If the Atocha is heading towards the Orion ship, Ojo will recommend, "Sir, we shouldn't get too close to the ship until we are certain they haven't... 'rigged' it." ![]()
![]() As he reviews the data, Ojo's shoulders square up and he leans forward, his posture becoming increasingly more aggressive. "Sirs, there are... numerous anomalies. The radiation levels are off. A destroyed or severely damage vessel would emit more radiation than what the scans are indicating. The same goes for other energy signatures as well. "The Orion ship itself is displaying damage, but all of it's major systems seem undamaged. I'm not sure what sort of vessel it is, but it does have reinforced hull plating. And..." Ojo pauses briefly to adjust the scans focus "...the debris is made up of components of at least three different ships, and what's there is probably not enough to make a whole ship." He looks up at his Commander and Captain. "And this ship sitting is right in the middle of it." The security officer looks back down at his console, pauses to shake his head at the audacity of the trap before them. Almost as an afterthought, he adds that, "The geomagnectic storms would probably drain a ship's shield reserves in under 60 seconds." ![]()
![]() Nice! My weakest Attribute and my weakest discipline! Target 9: 2d20 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 That's two success, plus JT's two, which meets the Difficulty, I believe. Lt. Ojo doesn't concern himself with the science behind how the sensors work. He trusts that the engineers who designed and built a Federation starship's equipment to be more than capable. He merely observes the output the ship's scan gives him, and he instead devotes his brainpower to being prepared to act quickly should anything be detected. ![]()
![]() Commander Worghrun wrote: "Security on alert," Commander Worghrun sharply orders. With the Captain's and Commander's return to the bridge, Ojo stops playing solitaire. I'm kidding. During the entire approach, the Atocha security officer has been monitoring the ship's weapons and shield status, as well as keeping tabs on the proximity sensors. Quote: "Scan the debris field," "Scanning." Ojo directs the ship's sensors to try and detect any order out of the chaotic debris field. ![]()

![]() Commander Worghrun wrote: "Command Ojo, I trust you have a set of security protocols for responding to distress signals that may be... suspect?" "Sir," Ojo acknowledges the question. "Because reasons for the distress call can be varied -- including being used as bait -- Federtation protocols are... vague, emphasizing being ready for anything. The scans will hopefully tell use more as we get near." The Andoran does not look up from where he is trying to absorb all the information he can from the ships scans as well as ensure the ship's combat readiness. ![]()
![]() Ojo turns to face Sunshine as she speaks out, clearly re-appraising his opinion of her. What his conclusion may be is not readily apparent. Since Commander Worghun replied to his fellow Klingon, Ojo deems it unnecessary (and unhelpful) to do so. He turns from Sunshine and returns to his duty without comment. ![]()

"A software incompatability, sir. They can explain it better than I could," Ojo motions to Lt. Imolko and Ensign Talenna. "While I think that that mere hours before we are set to depart is far too late for this sort of issue to arise for such a crucial system, it does seem to be corrected now. Every diagnostic I've run comes back green." ![]()
![]() Commander Worghrun wrote: The klingon turns and steps on the bridge and heads directly for the captain's chair. "Officer on the bridge," Ojo announces when he sees Commander Worghun step out of the turbolift. Quote: "You are relieved, Commander Ojo," he says matter-of-factly to the andorian. "I am now assuming command of the bridge." "Aye, sir," Ojo replies, already at his station at tactical from where he was reviewing its operations with Lt. Imolko. "All systems operational and pre-flight checks completed. There was a slight issue with tactical's software, but it has been resolved as of a few minutes ago." Surely a Klingon will express some concern that this issue wasn't addressed prior to the last minute... ![]()
![]() While checking the settings of the newly corrected tactical systems, Ojo glances at Ensign Talenna and absently replies, "You and Mr. Imolko should stick around in case there are any questions about your repair. It will be a good opportunity to meet the new captain. "In the meantime, walk me through this diagnostic. I'm not seeing where it's compensating for sensor redundancy from the station." He steps aside and motions to his display, inviting one or both of them to come up and spout technical jargon at him. ![]()
![]() "Excellent work, crew. And just in time." Ojo taps a few icons on his screen before verbally responding to the notification. "Request to dock acknowledged and approved for dock #4. Welcome aboard, Captain. Commander." And... Lieutenant? Hmm. Last minute transfer. Non-standard... Ojo peruses Vrek Graal-Ker's personnel file while he waits for the Captain to make their way to the bridge. ![]()

Fortunately a critical system like life support or warp drive isn’t giving us problems. Tactical may not seem critical, Mr. Imolko, but unlike warp or life support, we may never fully be sure of its readiness until we're in a situation where we face a hostile entity. We need to have it at least meeting operational standards before we depart. "An hour you say? That would be excellent." Ojo makes an effort to relax his antennae, hoping that the non-Andorians on the bridge aren't aware of his agitation. "Speaking of warp, Mr. Thorinson? Looking good?" ![]()
![]() Reckless wrote: Lieutenant Commander Ojo has the conn and is overseeing the operations while waiting for the ship's commander and xo to arrive. Ada'em Ojo is deliberately paying little attention to Lt. Amolko and Ensign Sunshine as they work on the ship's tactical station. It has been concerning to him that a key component of the ship's most important system is having problems, but he understands that this is not the sort of situation that will be improved by hovering over the specialists' shoulders while they work. He knows that he'll undoubtedly ask for an update in the very near future, but he can keep that impulse under wraps for now. "Lieutenant? Ensign? How's tactical looking?" Or maybe not. ![]()
![]() Zamal Imolko wrote: Maybe I shouldn’t take the avatar’s too literally? Ha ha, that's probably for the best. There's no way I would find a blue-skinned avatar with two antennae, so I found a blueish skinned avatar, and... I guess we can pretend the ears are antennae? At least his hair is white, although it's longer than an officer would likely have. I debated going without an avatar, to be honest. Did Rion rename his PC to Kalos Komin? It looks like it, but I missed when that happened. I'll post in gameplay tonight! ![]()
![]() I would love to see Rion as captain, for the reason Reckless said. Perhaps he could take inspiration from Captain Janeway: she had various assignments as a science officer before her career turned toward being a commanding officer. Maybe Rion used to be a medical officer before assuming a command position? ********* I did that thing where I said I was going to do something, let a lot of time pass, thought of the something again, assumed I had already done it, and just now realized that I haven't done the something. So, I need to get Mr. Ojo's backstory written out. As I said upthread, Ojo is a re-purposed character from a previous (very freeform) Star Trek campaign played on these boards quite a while ago. The life events I rolled for this campaign lined up very well with the character as I portrayed him previously, so I'm going to use that previous campaign as inspiration for his backstory. The main thing that's different is that when rolling up Ojo for this campaign, he suffered a "Serious Injury" at one point. For the original campaign, I had this weird idea that my Andorian had some sort of "moral handicap" and had a native Andorian support animal that helped him regulate his empathy. (Like I said, the campaign was very freeform, and the GM, whom I know in real life, loved it.) I think what I'd like to do instead is to say that he suffered a head injury that damaged his ability to regulate his emotions. The injury never healed properly, so he sports a cybernetic plate prosthesis that helps with that part of his functioning. Does this make sense? Is it too complicated? Does this deviate from the spirit of what the game would assume would be a "serious injury?" I like that it's somewhat thematic to the previous version of Ojo. Opinions and tweaks welcome. ![]()

And I'm still not very familiar (I have the Fallout 2d20 quickstart rules for that system but it's honestly not very well written and doesn't have proper character creation rules) with the system. I'd be game to give it a try if you can get me up to speed. DQ!!! It would be awesome to finally do a PbP with you, so I hope you join. I found the character builder that Rion shared on the first page of this thread really helpful: https://sta.bcholmes.org/ ![]()
![]() It's pretty reasonable for Reckless to assume that this didn't have legs, and to stop watching it. I had pretty much done the same. However, as I said each time I saw activity in the thread, I'd still be interested in playing. Kudos to Rion for bumping this, occasionally. I'm happy to hear that you're in recovery from your procedure, Reckless! It's sort of an awkward situation for me at this point to voice an opinion about which GM to play under, either the original GM or a new GM who selflessly stepped in. I'm going to let the GMs work out who does what. ![]()
