Man, not sure what to do, I've taken a massive beating. I need minions to prevent this kind of getting beaten by large blunt objects!
"Oww! Oof! Stop that you infernal creatures. Jietin! HELP!" Abid calls to the others as he takes a step back from the earth creatures.
"I'll take first watch. I prefer some quiet before resting." Abid volunteers. Spoiler for DM:
Since I'm taking first watch, once everyone gets settled in and starts sleeping I want to pull the head out and cast Speak with dead on it. First Question: why did he try to kill Samsun. DC is 16, the corpse can try to lie to me if he succeeds with bluff vs. sense motive (+10 for me) Abid settles in and checks his notes, occasionally glancing at their surroundings and listening for any loud noises.
"Fine. I suppose we..." he motions to himself and Jieten "attact enough attention without anything else." Abid puts the head away in a bag for the moment. "So Samsun, how exactly did your family end up bound to this key?"
Abid follows the others, staring pensively at the severed head tied to his belt occasionally. "When we get out of town I'll see if I can get us a couple of answers."
Abid tromps down the stairs and quietly begins eating breakfast in silence. After listening to the complaints about coffee he shakes his head at the others. "Meat and ale are enough for me. I hope you have an entire herd back there, because Jieten has a prodigious appetite."
I'll have my spell list for the next day up in a bit. Any requests for things we need covered on the divine spellcasting front?
"Ahh, yes. The dish towel gift. At least you remembered the next time. "
Just wait until I get some bodies. Can anyone say minion palanquin!?
"Well, that's settled. Hopefully we shall all be paid, you will be home with your family, and those eggs shall be available for experimentation in short order." Abid rubs his hands in excitement. "If only there was a decent library around here I could do a little more research, though I suppose more... ahh... active information gathering methods shall suffice."
Abid ponders for a moment. "It seems we've stumbled across many things here today that I am unfamiliar with. To aleviate that problem I think I shall need extra... specimens for examination. Living dragon eggs might not fetch coin, but think of the power they could hold! I am willing in help in this endeavour."
Hahaha. Any time your opponent is two sizes larger than you and you're not a halfling... you know you're gonna have a bad time. I looked it up, and I've got a spell that will preserve the head so it doesn't decay and stay's nice and fresh for showing off...
Abid pats the head thoughtfully.. "And who else have you made enemies of that you have a shapechanger walking around with you? That being said, Dragon eggs could have some interesting applications for magical rituals or creating powerful servants. "
Hahaha. I was worried about Abid not fitting in but our party is coming together nicely. Heck we're not even so far in the "evil" camp right now, so much as just a little... Jaded and ruthless ;) or as Abid likes to think of it, efficient.
Abid ignores the man, letting the others do the talking. He mutters to himself I shall have to prepare that spell... Hrm. Yes that will do. I wonder what information this creature had gathered. . After pausing a moment he turns his attention back to the conversation.
Abid examines the corpse for a moment, "Just the head. I'll clean it in the morning and we can get some answers. Something doesn't sit quite right about this." He turns to the man sitting in the room. "Now, look here fellow, who is going to die if you don't get some eggs?"
Hey DM, any way of figuring out in character if things would make good undead critters? I'm just going to take the head here, but for future reference. Knowledge roll, or something like that? Or just practice?
Abid clears his throat and responds to the guard.
"What an interesting creature..." Abid muses. "I've never seen one like this before. Hrm, I need to take a look at it's bone structure. " He pauses for a second and continues in a quieter voice to the others "Yes, if you want I could take the head for later. I cannot identify it for now, but I could communicate with it. Or I could take the body. Not sure if it would be of any use. You know, this one time I found....*ahem*. What!?" He snaps out of his thoughts when Jietin pronounces it a doppleganger. "Are you sure? I've never seen one, but if it can read minds... then I should definitely acquire the skull. Who knows what excellent information it could give us."
Echo what the others said. It's still early, but I'm very happy with the pace. Another game I'm in has only had ten posts total in the time we've been going. That and it's nice not to be light and cheerful for a change.
Abid draws his hulking mace and stands outside the room
Abid sees the boy melt to Katya's charms and turns to head upstairs. "Is there anyone in this world you can't woo Katya?" He chuckles in a harsh tone. As he hears the yell Abid calls to the others "The blind one shouldn't be running anywhere, we need to get the other."
Oh sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes. You should be the one casting blindness, it's a second level spell for you and the DC is higher to boot. I can have a new spell list the next day, I just picked that one because I've always wanted to try it.
This is actually kind of hilarious to play a character with horrible perception. I really have no idea what is going on other than we're chasing after 2 men.
Seeing nothing, Abid demands of the boy cleaning tables "Have you seen two men coming by here just now? One would have been leading the other."
Abid emits a hissing chuckle "Shouldn't have run." and follows the others inside.
"Jietin, point them out to me. I think I can slow one down. " Abid hisses.
The final member of the group finally speaks, his voice harsh and with something of a hiss. "Where did they go? I hate it when they run, much easier when they stand and fight." Abid follows quickly after the others.
Hrm, any suggestions for feat selection going forward or spell selection? I haven't played a cleric this high before, so I'm not sure whether to buff up and crack skulls, or try something else.
If it's mindless it's (mostly) undead, and I can take care of that. However, with Threnodic spell you can even affect them as well. It's one of the nice things about pathfinder that you can usually find a workaround for monster immunities. Also, Jietin, you look like you're built to take out gargantuan opponents! ;)

Allow me to introduce Abid Xarin. A former court poet who has traveled far and wide and was gifted with a magical weapon of thunder after passing the challenges of the Goddess of the night in the east, or so the stories go. He accidentally caused the downfall of a prominent Satrap in Asia Minor through a web of intrigue and a mistaken poisoning of a rival. Still working on stats, but that's the backstory I have in mind. |
