Syllyn silently agrees with Ting's assumed assessment that it is better that a dwarf try such things out, what with their natural resistance to poisons and magics. He also steps aside for the dwarf to pass through, if he so chooses.

The container looks to be a small, sealed, casket

![]() |

Curiosity getting the better of him, ting approaches the water. First dipping his beak in, he slurps a small amount. Lifting his beak he 'gargles' the small sip of water before swallowing it. Shrugging, "Tastes ok's ta me." As he speaks he continues into the water, spreading his wing-like arms he splashes about for a second before continuing towards the small container.
Quickly inspecting the container for traps, he will Look for handles on the small, sealed casket, and attempt to drag it out of the water.
Taking 10(26) on perception for traps, if he finds any he will take 10 (35) to disable it. If no handles are found and it is impossible to remove from the water, he will attempt to open it there in the pool

![]() |

Sorry. End of month at work was very busy... :-/
After another casting of guidance Baldrum also moves into the pool where he aids all of Ting Tang's attempts with the same cantrip and also his Blessing of the Faithful. +3 total (+1 competence, +2 profane)
The dwarf also helps checking the casket for traps. if allowed, Perception +10 = auto-aid for another +2.

![]() |

There are no traps and no magical wards. Inside the casket are Martyr's Tears

![]() |

Syllyn breathes a sigh of relief as no aquatic monster or trap messes with an already perilous day.
"Well, only have a couple of doors to check at this point, though who knows what they might lead to. Sorry about that damsel, Shining Knight, but who knows what ewe may yet find."

![]() |

Opening the 'casket' ting see's the imperfect, rose-tinted gemstone resembling a teardrop. His eyes widen as he reaches in to pick it up, exclaiming. "A shiney!, I's loikes shiney's. wroight!" Holding it out, his excitement unabated, "So's what's it bloody well do's?
Realizing their skald was right, Ting passes the small gemstone to whomever wants to take a look at it, looking towards Syllyn, "So's let's go open 'em doors, wroight."
Returning back the way they came, ting heads towards the stairs to the north 9 keeping a keen eye out as he goes.
Taking 10(23/26) on perception

![]() |

Syllyn smiles at the neo-raven's obsession with a shiny, and follows to the stairs.

![]() |

Ting goes up the wide stairs into a very large room.
Petrified oak banquet tables and benches form long lines in this large
chamber. On a raised platform stands a large ceramic bowl, covered
in runes and full of a greenish-yellow substance.
Are you moving in?

![]() |

Syllyn will leave entering the room to another, though he will slather Ting's bastard sword with an oil of bless weapon. Too many evil incorporeal outsiders in this place and this room looks dangerous somehow.

![]() |

Ting sees no traps although something is nagging at the edge of his hearing.
Everyone looking in make perception checks.

![]() |

perception, heroism: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 16

![]() |

Are you moving in?
Oh, you know he is....
Realizing Syllyn is approaching with a fancy oil for his blade, ting extends the exotic weapon, lulling his tongue in a tengu smile, "T'anks! Syllyn reminds me ta do somet'ng bloody-well nice fer you's sometimes."
Turning he cocks his head again focusing on listening, as he steps into the room.
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

![]() |

Baldrum follows the others into the next area. He checks out the room...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

![]() |

Kane is the only one who hears galloping hooves as a ghostly calvary charge runs over Ting.

"Is that a haunt?"
knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

The Shining Knight |

"More cowardly apparitions!" says The Shining Knight. "Don't let them frighten you, Ting old boy." Gleaming sword in hand, he enters the area and looks around for more danger.

![]() |

It certainly looks like a haunt

The Shining Knight |

@GM: Is it a perpetual/recurring one, or does it seem to have dissipated after running over Ting?

![]() |

ref save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 What's the save goal?
AS the ghostly calvary charge plows through the bird, ting cries out , "Wha tha bloody 'ells?"

![]() |

"If it is a haunt that sword of yours will do no good, Shiny One. You have to be a cleric or use holy water or something like that. Your weapon will just pass through it harmlessly."

The Shining Knight |

@Syllyn: Don't worry, The Shining Knight knows all about haunts . . . he's got a boon that says so :)

![]() |

((DC 18 - you passed))
The haunt is not immediately coming back .... but some of these do after a time interval - or maybe Therin just destroyed it. You're not sure.

![]() |

Syllyn waits with baited breath for the inevitable, but nothing happens.
"Well, I know haunts behave differently depending on the type, but I haven't studied these ones. So, maybe, it just went away... anyway, let's move on."

![]() |

Not exactly what a haunt is nor why his sword won't work on it, Ting does know what can fix the damage it caused. Drawing his 'cure wand' from his pouch he extends it to Syllyn, "I'd don't knows about no bloody haunt, but I knows 'is wand'll fix tha bloody damage, you's mind?"
Once Syllyn has healed him.
"T'anks!" Tucking the wand back in his pouch, ting nods towards the door on the western wall, "Shall we's?" Shifting the grip on his exotic bastard swordhe moves towards the western door and carefully inspects it, then attempts to open it
I'll roll the 'healing' so as to speed the process up. Also ting will take 10(23/26) on perception on the door, and on (32/35) disable device to deal with any traps or locks he finds
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

![]() |

Mothing happens as the others move in.
No traps, and no door - just stairs leading down.

![]() |

When my PC was in it, one of the other PCs was trying to get it to go into jacuzzi mode
Actually, it was intended to be 'slapstick-comedy heavy rinse-cycle mode', but so it goes....
After far too much time trying to study the pool without falling in, Alexis catches up with the others in time to help heal Ting.
Whoever's wand that was being used to heal him, I shall spend 1 from mine in your stead...
wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Ah, and with a roll like that, you may reclaim 3 of your own charges!

![]() |

Baldrum is caught flat-footed surprised and does not react until the haunt is gone.
When Ting walks in the direction of the western door, Baldrum asks: "Shouldn't we check out that rune-covered bowl first?" He points towards the raised platform.

![]() |

Syllyn has already moved to support Ting and looks over his shoulder, first at Baldrum, and then at the bowl.
"Frankly, I'd prefer to get out of this room ASAP if a haunt is involved and come back to investigate the bowl after we make sure the area ahead of us is secured."

![]() |

Turning towards Baldrum he looks the direction of the rune covered bowl. His eyes widen seeming to see the bowl for the first time. Nodding his beak, he replies, 'Sure, goes ahead." Turning to the concerned Nagaji he comforts his friend, "Don't you's worry a floggin' bit, Syllyn, we's'll be out o' 'ear soon enoughs, wroight."
Happily holding his place at the top of the stairs waiting to see what Baldrum finds.

![]() |

The monk shrugs.
"Fine with me. I suppose the bowl will still be here in a few minutes..."

![]() |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

It's a shame though. 'Slapstick-comedy heavy rinse-cycle mode' would have been fricken hilarious. And, who knows, Prilla might have considered it fun. Maybe someone should shove her in an Aqueous Orb, with a waterbreathing on of course.
Looks like it's just another small maze of corridors so far.

![]() |

"More corridors over here."
Syllyn steps into the area and checks around, peeking up up or down the stairs labelled 2 and 3, but waiting to see if the others join him before going out of sight to the stairs labelled 1.

![]() |

'2' and '3' look to head into other rooms.

![]() |

Can Syllyn see into the rooms or is there a door or stairs or curtain in the way? Also, do the stairs go up or down or does it even matter?

![]() |

Syllyn can see into the rooms and I'm fairly sure the stairs go down.

![]() |

Following Syllyn down the steps, looking from the left to the right, he nods towards the left, "We's moight as well 'ead 'at ways, wroight." Keeping a keen eye out, he heads down the steps to the left.
Taking 10(23/29)on perception heading down the stairs towards 2

![]() |

Baldrum silently follows Ting and Syllyn.
I moved Therin's token as described in his latest post.

![]() |

Three white marble statues of featureless spirits echo the murals on the walls, which depict thousands of souls streaming toward a great spire.

![]() |

knowledge (planes}: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

![]() |

Echoing Therin's description, "Crossin' Phyrasma's bloody river?" Shrugging he turns towards the other door, "I's don't mind tha occasional dip, but we's got more places ta explore, wroight."
Moving past Syllyn towards the next set of stairs 3 ting cautiously proceeds down the steps keeping a keen eye out as he goes.
Again Taking 10(23/29)on perception heading down the stairs towards 3

![]() |

Alexis does her best to keep up, fidgeting with her formidable amulet as she goes along...
...before Ting opens another door, she will ask he take a moment to contemplate The Dandelion's Riddle.

The Shining Knight |

"My intuition tells me everything we've been through has been a carefully contrived scheme leading to this moment: the final battle of good versus evil! Be ready my boon companions, for an epic struggle against the lich-king himself, with the fate of the free world riding on the outcome!"
