Pip Muzak |
Pip frowns, then smiles and jokes, ”Hah! Looks like they forgot to install a differently abled entrance on this window. That’s just terrible, I think I’m gonna boycott this establishment on any of my future break-ins.”
Inspire Courage (Verbal/Comedy), +1 hit/damage (competence), +1 v charm and fear (morale), Round 1/8
Avi Solrem |
Starting with Avi unless he has the aforementioned ability to take an action in the surprise round I'll assume his first round action is to sprint towards the noise of the breaking glass.
This is fair. His first round is movement.
Avi Solrem |
Round 2
Avi circles around his own team piled up against the window, just enough so that he can see their foes inside.
Remembering his dream from before, he summons a fiery column of minute meteors on one of the thugs.
[move] 15ft
[standard] Minute Meteors (Sp) in RED thug's square
Fire damage, DC16 reflex negates: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails, not seeing any of this since he is definitely less than five feet tall, angrily grabs the edge of the window and pulls himself inside.
Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Still under the impression that the lady is not evil, he swings a heavy downward double armed slam at the thug in front of him, "I'MMA GONNA BEAT YA FACE IN PUNK!"
IUS v Red: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 for B: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Using 1/3 Stunning Fist. If hits, DC 15 Fort Save or Stunned for 1 rd.
GM Shadow Dragon |
Nails misses the thug with his fist and the thug says, "Not today slowpoke!"
He and the other thug drop their bows, draw longswords, and advance on Nails!
Thugs Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Thugs Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Crit confirm?
Thugs Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
And both thugs viciously slash Nails leaving gaping wounds!
Total of 21 damage to Nails; good thing he's L3. I wish my rolls for my PCs were half this good!
Round 2
Andros
Pip
Girl
Round 3
Avi
Nails
Thugs! (Red -6)
Andros and Pip are UP!
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nice, almost max damage and almost a Crit on top of that! This PC may be a very very short lived one. Also I forgot about inspire courage but I really doubt it would change anything.

I saw you hadn't added it in so I did and no it wasn't enough to hit. Don't forget to have Pip take any actions.
Pip Muzak |
Pip is waiting to see if anyone climbs in to join Nails or if he needs to do so. Could Pip stand on the window ledge if he did climb up and there wasn’t space inside?
GM Shadow Dragon |
Pip is waiting to see if anyone climbs in to join Nails or if he needs to do so. Could Pip stand on the window ledge if he did climb up and there wasn’t space inside?
He could but it would be an Acrobatics check. Given he's size Small it wouldn't be as difficult to manage. Is Pip going to continue his Performance then?
Pip Muzak |
Pip keeps up his jokes, ”How did the halfling swashbuckler enjoy his salad? With spanache!”
He looks around, ”Alright, not my best work. It’s a little hard coming up with winners all the time.” He tries to climb up onto the ledge.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
And balance on the ledge.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
If that all works as he hopes, he pulls out a scroll (clw).
GM Shadow Dragon |
Andros tries to scramble through the window when he realizes Nails is hurt bad.
[dice=climb]1d20+1-4
Unfortunately the map was rather thin and I should've hand-drawn some extensions. Andros was a 5' step away from the window and the Climb into the window is a move action so he still has his standard action.
Andros successfully climbs into the window and the room!
GM Shadow Dragon |
Pip keeps up his jokes, ”How did the halfling swashbuckler enjoy his salad? With spanache!”
He looks around, ”Alright, not my best work. It’s a little hard coming up with winners all the time.” He tries to climb up onto the ledge.
[dice=Climb]d20+1
And balance on the ledge.
[dice=Acrobatics]d20+8
If that all works as he hopes, he pulls out a scroll (clw).
A 5 doesn't succeed as the window is more difficult than other DC 5 Climb checks listed: "A rope with a wall to brace against, or a knotted rope, or a rope affected by the rope trick spell."
Pip's stories continue to inspire the group but he apparently spent so much effort on it he was unable to climb into the window.
GM Shadow Dragon |
Andros's swing misses wildly but the thug doesn't look pleased he has company!
The girl snarls, "Interlopers!" and mutters some odd words and a bright light flashes from her hands and strikes Nails! She then moves in front of the closed (and bolted shut) door.
Something?: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Spellcraft checks apply but you guys can see the damage roll and guess what it is. Nails is stuck by the 'thing' and takes 3 points of damage. ;)
Round 3
Avi
Nails
Thugs! (Red -6)
Andros
Pip
Girl
Avi and Nails are UP! Avi: Because the red thug moved into the corner, Avi no longer has line of sight. Blue is still in sight or you could take a 5' step, a move action for a Climb check to get into the window, and then a standard to target Red.
Avi Solrem |
Avi grumbles at how crowded the opening is and shifts a little to the right, behind Pip. This way he can at least see the other thug and continue helping. He points at a space in the air above their foe and again causes tiny, but persistent meteors to drop on him.
[move] 15ft
[standard] Minute Meteors (Sp) in BLUE thug's square
Fire damage BLUE, DC16 reflex negates: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails face goes redder with anger. He practically spits foam as he yells after being hit by the magic, ”You little evil fiend! Disgusting little wench, pretending to be an orphan is the worst thing anyone can do. You gonna get beat first!”
He steps towards her and unleashes a flurry of attacks!
Flurry full attack, first punch using stunning fist 2/3. If hits DC 15 Fort or stunned one round.
IUS Flurry 1 + IC: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8 for B + IC: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
and
IUS Flurry 2 + IC: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 = 19 for B + IC: 1d6 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
GM Shadow Dragon |
Nails hammers the girl and she falls down!
She's outta there! Time for the thugs to mug!
The thugs look at each other and shout, "What a coward - hitting a woman! I guess we whooped you too much eh shorty?"
Thugs Melee, Red vs. Nails: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Celebrating as he knocks Nails down the other thug goes after Andros!
"You're next sonny!"
Thugs Melee, Blue vs. Andros: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
But he apparently has dust in his eyes and misses Andros.
Round 3
Avi
Nails [-33; 3 under 0, bleeding]
Thugs! (Red -6, Blue -5)
Andros
Pip
Girl [goner]
Round 4
Avi
Nails [-33; 3 under 0, bleeding]
Thugs! (Red -6, Blue -5)
Andros
Pip
Girl [still a goner]
Due to the changes in init order the whole party is UP! Nails can attempt to stabilize.
Pip Muzak |
Pip hears the bodies hit the floor inside, ”I hope those weren’t our guys.”
He tries to climb up the window again and perch on the ledge.
Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
If that all works, he pulls out a scroll (CLW).
IC is still up
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails fades to black.

He tries to climb up the window again and perch on the ledge.
[dice=Climb]d20+1
[dice=Acrobatics]d20+8If that all works, he pulls out a scroll (CLW).
IC is still up
Pip has joined the group in the room as he successfully climbs through the window!
Avi Solrem |
Avi notes Pip retrieving a scroll.
That has to be for Nails...
Noting that these thugs are not too quick on their toes, he brings down another barrage of meteors.
[standard] Minute Meteors (Sp) in BLUE thug's square
Fire damage BLUE, DC16 reflex negates: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
[move] through the window! Climb: 1d20 ⇒ 1
GM Shadow Dragon |
The thug sees Avi winding up and says, "Oh no not again!"
The Reflex!: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
But he fails to avoid the meteor strike What must the neighbors think??? and falls burning to the floor.
But Avi's celebratory dance moves, while restaurant quality, don't help him climb through the window.
Andros Therinor |
Andros moves up, blade ready to cut the thug down, but gives him a chance.
Yield...or spend the last moment of your life questioning your choices... intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
can i ready an attack if he doesn't give?
readied attack if he makes a move: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 101d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
GM Shadow Dragon |
Andros moves up, blade ready to cut the thug down, but gives him a chance.
Yield...or spend the last moment of your life questioning your choices... [dice=intimidate]1d20+2
can i ready an attack if he doesn't give?[dice=readied attack if he makes a move]1d20+1; 1d6+1
A rules note: "Action: Using Intimidate to change an opponent’s attitude requires 1 minute of conversation. Demoralizing an opponent is a standard action." So Andros can't 'convince' the thug on a standard but if you want to keep that Intimidate roll Andros can demoralize the thug and give him the shaken condition for 2 rounds. Also for reference: "Shaken: A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks." Since demoralize requirs a standard, no, Andros could not attack *and* demoralize.
GM Shadow Dragon |
yeah..keep the intimidate to demoralize...and my attack roll sucked anyways...shocker..lol
The attack roll wasn't, well, yeah it was that bad. ;)
Since Nails is stable he'll spend his action rolling on the floor in agony and questioning his life choices. ;)
Andros flashes some gang signs at the remaining thug who looks concerned for his own safety from Andros 'The Blade' Therinor.
Despite his trepidation he still moves over and swings at 'The Blade'!
Thug Melee, Shaken not stirred: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 2 = 151d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
But his nerves get the best of him and he misses!
Perhaps he's worried because Mr. Meteor is giving him 'that look'...
Round 4
Avi
Nails [-33; 3 under 0, Stable]
Thug! (Red -6, Blue - charred and smoking)
Andros
Pip
Round 5
Avi
Nails [-33; 3 under 0, Stable]
Thug! (Red -6 and shaken for 1 more round; Blue - charred and smoking)
Andros
Pip
The entire party is UP!
Avi Solrem |
Now that he can see the other thug again, he feels reasonably safe to taunt given the fate of his partner in crime.
I hear you both like hot showers? Coming up!
[standard] Minute Meteors (Sp) in RED thug's square
Fire damage, DC16 reflex negates: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
They have such bad reflex saves... it's hard to resist when it's working.
GM Shadow Dragon |
The thug has that look; he knew what was coming but still followed orders.
The Reflex! but with the shakes: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 1 - 2 = 8
"AHHHH!" says the last thug as he is burned to a crisp by Avi's mighty meteors!
Combat is over! I'm going to assume someone gets Nails up? ;)
After seeing to Nails the group searches the thugs and the girl for any valuables and find the following:
Two of each: Studded leather, Buckler, longsword, composite shortbow, quiver with 19 arrows, backpack, 50 ft. silk rope, a grappling hook, signal whistle, silver earring (5 gp), 1 gp.
One of: Quarterstaff, dagger, a scroll, spell component pouch, spell components.
Perc Avi: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Perc Nails: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Perc Pip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 (low-light)
Perc Andros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Pip and Nails discover a trap door! What will the adventurers do next?
It's marked with the 'e' on the map.
Pip Muzak |
Pip steps into the room and moves gingerly over the bodies to his fellow pathfinder, then activates his held scroll.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
As Nails comes barely back to consciousness, the small fellow smiles down at him, ”We won! You busted that woman’s face in. And then your anger must have manifested some sort of heavenly fire to burn the rest of them down. It was impressive. Also, you got any magical healing wands, scrolls or potions? Cause I’m out.”
He has detect magic but doesn’t have spellcraft trained, so no scroll or magic item ID.
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails grunts and looks a bit ashamed, ”Well sheeeet, my bad. I just snapped I guess, lady pushed my buttons there pretending to be a grieving orphan. Everyone else ok at least?”
He pulls a wand and hands it to Pip, ”That should do the trick.”
Lotta Wand Charges: 5d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 2, 7, 8, 5) + 5 = 29
-1 HP is acceptable
Andros Therinor |
Well, I gave him a chance...what a waste... Andros says as he goes to heal Nails.
save your scroll..i have rebuke death...i can heal him if he's below 0 for free...well, almost for free..
rebuke: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Nails the Unbreakable |
Noted, scroll saved and the extra HP from rebuke death puts him at full HP.
Nails points to the floor, ”We gunna go through the trap door?”
Avi Solrem |
Avi carefully climbs through the window and dusts himself off as Pip rouses Nails.
Everyone okay?
He checks out the new scroll they recovered…
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Yes, we can go through the trap door, but let’s be careful.
Detect magic and listening for voices on the other side
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails nods, checks the trap door for traps and listens at it.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
And assuming it seems safe, tries to pull it open and look down.
GM Shadow Dragon |
Perc Avi: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Perc Nails: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Perc Pip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 (low-light)
Perc Andros: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
After Nails opens the trapdoor everyone takes a look to see what's down there. Everyone sees a simple wooden ladder leading down to somewhere near the waterfront. The keen eyes of Pip and Andros notice something else: A rapscallion greased the ladder! The grease will make it tricky to climb down the ladder and anyone who slips will fall onto jagged rocks below.
What are the brave heroes going to do???
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails tries to estimate how far the ladder goes down.
Nails the Unbreakable |
Nails pulls out a rope and looks for a place to tie it off or attach a grappling hook, ”I’ll go last an bring the rope with.”
Avi Solrem |
Can Pip prestidigitation the grease off?
Avi Solrem |
Thats fair. With all those factors is does sound like over powering the cantrip.
Pip Muzak |
Pip tries to climb down the offered rope, bracing his feet against the wall as he goes. Hopefully only the rings were greased.
Climb Take 10: 10 + 1 = 11
