GM Kate |
Early this morning, you received a message on your personal comm unit. The leaders of the Advocates and Manifold Host factions of the Starfinder
Society, Zigvigix and Harmony of Many, invited you to a breakfast briefing at Croizanarte, a gourmet pastry shop in the Drifter’s End neighborhood of Absalom Station, not far from the Lorespire Complex.
When you get to the busy restaurant, you have to wait for the waiter to seat a large family of ysoki before he can attend to your party.
Please introduce us to your character! How do they feel about a morning meeting and what are they going to get for breakfast?
Gideon Stix |
A six foot tall male elf arrives a few minutes before the appointed time. He is well dressed, with slightly unruly black hair and a four-day shadow of beard. He has a small arm and a survival knife on his belt, along with several pouches that appear to contain various technical tools.
He introduces himself as Gideon and he navigates introductions and small talk with easy charm. His dark eyes gleam with interest at whatever anyone else is saying and he is quick to laugh at a joke or make one himself.
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
A human male opens the door to the shop, pausing in the entryway to ensure that he has been noticed. Striking a confident pose, he pulls back his pristine and well-tailored lab coat so to reveal a the lines of his healthy physique. Immediately upon fully entering the establishment, he attempts to get the waiter's attention as he passes by.
"Your eyes don't deceive you. I am indeed, Doctor Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker," he informs the man.
"And if your eyes should fail, there is no need for concern," he continues. "For, as I said, I am Doctor Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker. There is nary a physical defect my medical know-how and firm, yet handsome, hands cannot repair."
As he waits, the man grows visibly impatient. Yet, as other agents appear, he seems nearly oblivious to their presence.
When you get to the busy restaurant, you have to wait for the waiter to seat a large family of ysoki before he can attend to your party.
After some time, he tries again to the get the waiter's attention. Holding up his hands for display, he implores, "Don't you understand. man?!? These hands save lives, man! Lives that teeter between that fine line that stands between the land of the living and the Boneyard. If these hands are restrained in place for too long--let alone left to go undernourished--who knows how many souls may be lost? I implore you to seat me quickly."
He crosses his arms in dismay, before muttering, "And I am a pretty sure that I arrived before those ysokis did."
Gideon Stix |
Gideon sidles over to the good great beyond compare doctor and introduces himself. "I am Gideon Stix, Doctor Remorhaz. It appears we are both assigned to the same Starfinder task. What an honor. Tell me about your latest wondrous work."
Gideon hopes that by giving the doctor a chance to talk about himself may take his mind off the wait for a table and give everyone a bit of peace. He also thinks to himself, It's a shame I can't take advantage of this fellow. It would be so easy to con him into shifting some of his credits my way.
Bluff: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 To appear interested in Dr. R.
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
"It is always a pleasure to meet a fan," replies Dr. Remorhaz with smile. Given the opportunity, he wastes no time in embellishing upon his most recent exploits.
"In addition to being both a multi-verse-class surgeon and writer, you may now soon need to add 'actor' to that list," declares the doctor. "Not long ago, I was called upon to be the voice of the tour for a crop of incoming Starfinder agents. My performance was stellar, not simply informative, but inspiring."
"My debut as a thespian was all the more impressive due to the fact that, just hours earlier, I had to eradicate a strain of rogue code left over from the Data Scouring that had plagued the Pact Worlds some time back." He continues, "Were it not for my quick thinking and medical expertise, some of your fellow agents would, undoubtedly, have expired."
"Before, that, I negotiated a settlement between two long-warring factions. One was led by a verthani--a cyborg, as I recall, more machine than man--and the other by a dwarven mystic or powerful mage..."
Gideon Stix |
"Impressive indeed. This is my first mission, so I have much to learn. I hope the others get here soon. I'm hungry and could use some coffee."
"Tiny" Arctos |
A large bear, heavyset though obviously quite muscular and wearing bright yellow armor with the word "SECURITY" stenciled on the back, trudges up and plops down heavily onto one of the benches in the waiting area, which groans ominously. He does not remove his sunglasses, and has the look of someone who was up far too late to be up this early. He grunts and nods in greeting, then leans his head back against the wall, waiting.
GM Kate |
A server finally attends to your party and leads you through the crowded restaurant to the relative privacy of the chef’s table, located to the side of a bustling kitchen.
Effused with the smell of freshly baked pastries, this spacious table boasts room for occupants of all sizes. A shirren in a power chair sits on the far side from the entrance next to a large barathu collective swirling with color. “You’re just in time, Starfinders!” Zigvigix exclaims. “We ordered the sampler platter, and it should be here any minute!”
Harmony of Many’s numerous tendrils reach to pull out chairs as their telepathic voice chimes in. “And while you enjoy a hearty breakfast, we can detail a mission we would like you to undertake in an area of Absalom Station few have ever seen— the Ghost Levels. This region of the Spike is home to strange creatures, bizarre ecosystems, and possibly even undiscovered sapient residents. It is unknown what role these areas play in maintaining the delicate balance of Absalom Station’s equilibrium, but they are dangerous enough that almost all access points are cordoned off and travel there forbidden.”
Zigvigix picks up the briefing from their counterpart. “Ever since the Drift Crash, the station has been flooded with refugees. The Starfinder Society has been helping as many people as we can, but resources and space aren’t infinite. One of my fundraising contacts told me about some refugees who found their way into one of the uppermost Ghost Levels and set up their own volunteer-led community.” They give a pleasant nod to their barathu colleague. “We want you to travel to this new community in the Ghost Levels and meet the people in charge. See if there’s anything you can do to help them out! We’ll be sending you with some supplies to bring down there after breakfast."
Harmony of Many continues. “Indeed. Our drone, Major Sixth, is monitoring the assembly of these supplies now, and will inform us when they are ready. Your mission is also to explore the region surrounding this refugee community. While doing so you should maintain good records, document your findings, map your progress, communicate peacefully with any sapient species you encounter, and comport yourselves as responsible
explorers. We intend to prove to the Syndicsguild that the upper reaches of the Ghost Levels can be safely settled, so long as they are explored with care by responsible groups knowledgeable in engineering, magic, and archaeology—groups like the Starfinder Society. We will provide you with tools to help you flag any mysterious sites for further exploration and to collect any relics of value, so long as doing so won’t harm local ecosystems.”
Zigvigix concludes the briefing just as overflowing plates of food arrive. “And of course, you should deal with anything dangerous you find down there in whatever manner you think best. Just please make sure you come back in the same number of pieces you left in! So, who’s hungry?”
Calisst Detabernak |
Callist's plate is a good old 2 egg bacon except that the white are blue.
I am sure that i command a breakfast sandwich. Did I shift to another reality?
His indigo skin contrasts with his other elven kin.
"I am sorry, it may be because i am from Apostae, but i don't understand. You are talking about those ghost levels like they were a wilderness area "
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
Upon spying the familiar shirren, Dr. Remorhaz approaches, "Hello there! It is always good to see a familiar fan, eh Zagnu--, Zolof--?" The man struggles for a moment. He acts as if he is clearing his throat, before confidently saying, "Ziggy. If you needed a check-up from one of the Pact World's finest physicians, you could have simply asked rather than arrange a full-on Starfinder mission. Don't tell me you planned this whole Drift Crisis too, just to get an appointment?" The doctor flashes a smile.
"After that, if there are still people in trouble, bizarre ecosystems to catalogue, and sapient residents to save, then I am clearly your man." Rex continues, accepting the mission. "As for coming back with the same number of pieces we left with, I assume that you are making effort at shirren humor. I am a doctor, after all."
The doctor turns to address the rest of the party. "If any of you are even thinking of returning from this mission injured while I am on watch, then you had better treat me for esophagitis this instant!"
[b]"Because that is a pill I find to be too hard swallow.”

Gideon Stix |
Gideon takes in the assignment and eventually comments, "This sounds interesting."
He begins formulating ways in which he can use knowledge of the Ghost Level to his advantage in his occasional grifting scams. He imagines some gullible souls might be willing to make investments in alleged enterprises situated there, as checking them out will be difficult.
He helps himself to the breakfast platter, requesting a refill of his coffee.
To the other Starfinders on the mission he says, "I'm Gideon. I'm a technomancer, still working with fairly basic spells like Holographic Image and Shrapnal Shot. I'm good with computers and engineering challenges. I also have a knack for spotting illusions and lies. I'm not much of a fighter but I'll do what I can in a scrape." He pats his pistol and knife, which appear to be his only weapons.
"Tiny" Arctos |
"Hmph. Diplomacy? Mapping? What am I doing on this mission?" Tiny rumbles, once again leaning back against the nearest wall with sunglasses in place. "And who are these Syndicsguild?"
GM Kate |
Zigvigix laughs at Rex's joke. "Well, it's always a pleasure to see you, though I'd rather not have to see you as a doctor! I know the team and anyone you meet down there will be in good hands."
In response to Calisst's statement, they say "It almost is like an wilderness!"
Harmony of Many’s body goes through a few color changes while they ponder how best to answer. “Our information is limited in this area, since only occasional explorers slip past the barricades, and even fewer return. It is hard to tell which tales are believable. We have heard stories about forests with screaming fruit, secret space-pirate lairs, robotic dragons, mobile organic machinery, and immortal tentacle beasts. The only thing we know for certain is that the ambient magic of the region is entirely unpredictable.”
Any other questions about the mission for Ziggy or Harmony of Many?

"Greetings Cousin, I am Calisst from Apostae. I am able to create windows of realities. A Witchwarper as you call it. Although, i must say i am more of a surfer than someone who has control over them.
I was working for Detabernak Clan in a lowly position as the male i am when i fall into a reality where the drows doesn't exist. A horrific experience to one like me who sort have a pride for my species. When i returned to our reality, the clan was no more. Disappear like they never existed. That was the start of my paranormal investigator carreer. I have been able to consolidate with the help of a few friends each shard of realities to this marvel. The infinity lash! Composed from a part of each reality where the drow still exists!
But i must bored you now."
GM Kate |
"Not at all, it's very interesting! Don't worry about the bill, everyone." Zigvigix adds. "The chef is a former Starfinder and it is on the house!"
Right about then, the chef, a male shirren named Kevocad, brings out a gilded box containing six magical gourmet pastries. "I'd like to send these with you. You can give them away to whomever you think could use one, or enjoy them yourselves!"
Mechanically, when consumed, each of these pastries functions as a mk 1 serum of healing. A PC who gives a pastry to another willing creature gains a +2 circumstance bonus on all Bluff and Diplomacy checks attempted against the recipient of the pastry for 1 day.
Before you depart, Harmony of Many’s drone, Major Sixth, arrives and presents you with a mk 1 null-space chamber that is filled with supplies for the refugees. They also give you one enhanced camera scanner and one pair of cartographer boots.
Anything else you'd like to do before departing?
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
Doctor Remorhaz accepts the pastry. He looks tempted to eat it right away, but thinks better of it after spotting the lens of the camera scanner.
"Is that thing on? Is it currently recording?"
He then compares to the proffered boots to his own, finely-tailored footware, before suggesting that one of his fellow agents wear them. "I do have a reputation to maintain," he adds, as he bends down to make sure his socks are pulled up.
Gideon Stix |
Gideon has no questions. It seems pointless when the whole expedition is the answer questions about the area. He offers to take the camera and document events. He secures a strap that allows the camera to sit on his chest like a bodycam.
GM Kate |
Once you make any last-minute purchases, you make your way to the Downlow neighborhood in the Spike of Absalom Station. This poor and crowded area is overflowing with refugees. Some huddle around station vents for warmth while others busk or sleep on the sidewalks, often with only a threadbare jacket or sweater to cover them.
Upon finding the food bank Zigvigix indicated, you learn that a group of lashunta refugees departed for the settlement in the Ghost Levels just a few minutes ago, and the volunteers point you in the right direction.
As you turn into an alley lit by a solitary holographic streetlight, you find several members of the violent Bulkhead Bruisers gang verbally accosting the refugees, demanding that they hand over their valuables despite the lashuntas’ protests that they hardly have anything left after being stranded here. One of the Bruisers offers to let the lashuntas “run some errands” for them to pay off this “local tax” and maybe earn their belongings back.
What would you like to do? You could pay off the gang members to leave the lashuntas alone, try an approach with social skills, or just come in guns blazing.
Gideon Stix |
On the trip to the downlow, Gideon puts on the boots, if no one else will and spends some time programing his comm unit to receive the data the boots provide. He also arranges with someone to transfer a copy of the data at regular intervals as a back-up. He also sets his commlink to download reduced pixel versions of what the camera records as a back-up.
When he sees the Bulkhead Bruisers extorting the refugees, he rolls his eyes and thinks, Amateurs. Idiot amateurs!
He mutters to the others, "Back me up, okay?"
He strides confidently up to the gangers, smiles broadly, and says, "Best move along, mates. I saw a team of steward enforcers heading this way. I don't think they'll approve of your marketing scheme, admirable as it is." He glances back toward a busy passageway as if they might be almost to the intersection.

He secretly hopes they won't take the hint. A good fight is just what he needs to wake up this morning.

Gideon sighs and draws his pistol as he advances to where he has a clear shot at yellow. He fires his skipshot pistol, the slug jumping across space to return to space time just in front of the ganger.

Calisst moves to give himself cover from the advertissement sign and draws out his whip. His sensitive drow eyes are hurt a little for the amount of light coming out of the sign but he became accustomed to living in a galexy with so much arteficial light.
A reminder that this whip has the reach special property.
