Gideon suggests the group look at the room to the south that appears to have a floor plan that is a mirror image of the room with the beacon.

Gideon suggests the group look at the room to the south that appears to have a floor plan that is a mirror image of the room with the beacon.
"Yes, please check that out. I will right...er... somewhere behind you." Rex affirms.
GM Kate |
You check out the opposite room. The original purpose of this chamber is hard to determine, as machinery damaged beyond recognition lines the eastern wall and ungrounded electrical wires sparking with an orange glow swing loose from banks of capacitors to the north and south.
You think it would be possible to use Computers of Engineering in this room to zap anyone not standing on the rubberized purple flooring. This is not useful at the moment, but who knows what the future might bring.
On to the hatches?
Gideon Stix |
Is there anything to explore to the west? It looks like there may be some gates or doors. Are the hatches the doors to the six strange spheres we closed?
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
"What do you think, Starfinders?" Rex inquires, pointing down the hallway. "Shall we head, as they say in the dispensery, 'down the hatch'?"
GM Kate |
This is one of those maps that can be viewed different ways. There are thick starship walls, and there are two hatches that are open. I have placed you going through the nearest one.
A massive rectangular pool fills this space. Metal catwalks extend south from two open access hatches, abutting against the far wall, with ladders ascending to other wide walkways 10 feet above. In the center of the chamber, more ladders and catwalks descend to the water’s surface 20 feet below, along with an artificial beach at the base of the dark retaining wall made up of pipes, tubes, filters, and other machinery. A figure lays slumped there, unconscious.
I tried to make all the elevation clear, but please ask if it's confusing!
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
"An unconscious body!" shouts Rex when he spots the floating form. "It is a good thing there is a doctor in the house. It is a better thing that that doctor so happens to be me."
Finishing a gesture with both of his thumbs, Rex turns to the others. "One of you should fetch it!" He glances at Tiny. "Your people are known to be competent swimmers, right?"
Rex makes no effort to approach the water, but instead quietyly explains to whoever may be listening, "I wouldn't want to get my lab coat all wet and it could be rather unsanitary--you know, with a body floating around in it and all. Got to stay as sterile as possible. After all, who knows what potential trauma I may soon be dealing with?"
It would be a real shame if the good doctor were "accidentally" knocked into the water, wouldn't it? ; P
"Tiny" Arctos |
Tiny rolls his eyes at the doctor, but does move the ladder down to water level, intending to go retrieve the unconscious figure.
Gideon Stix |
Gideon trails behind Tiny to watch for hazards and threats while the big guy focuses on getting to the body.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Something gets in Gideon's eye, forcing him to see with only one eye for a few moments.
GM Kate |
As Tiny starts climbing down the ladder, there is a stirring from below the waves!
[spoiler=Initiative]

You all react first!
The creature is 5 feet below the surface of the water right now. There is a cheat sheet on underwater combat in the slides.
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
Rex draws a syringe as he approaches Tiny. "Before you swim with whatever is in there, take this.". The doctor injects a biohack stiffening Tiny's fur.
+1 to AC
"Now, go!" he urges. "Bring back the body. And possibly dinner."
"Tiny" Arctos |
Tiny drops the last few feet to the catwalk and draws his doshko as he advances toward the stirring in the water.
Hoping that with a climb speed I can count finishing my descent and stepping forward a few squares as a combined movement. In that case, Tiny readies an action to attack if the thing surfaces. If not, then one move action to climb and another to move along the catwalk while drawing his doshko.
Piercing: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
ACs with biohack: EAC 17, KAC 19
Gideon Stix |
Gideon draws his pistol as he moves to the west end of the catwalk. He fires down at the creature in the water.
Skipshot pistol: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 (range 60 ft, -1/range inc.)
Damage, vs KAC, P: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Splash.
GM Kate |
Everyone prepares for the creature, but you are all a little surprised at what it does. Tiny has the best view as it starts to spin its long limbs around itself very quickly, gaining momentum as it spins more and more rapidly about its axis, and then flies out of the water! It reaches the catwalk, still spinning in a whirlwind.
Tiny gets the AoO, though it has concealment due to the whirlwind.
concealment roll, 20 or below misses: 1d100 ⇒ 3
Tiny's doshko moves with force through the target, but the whirlwind throughs off Tiny's aim.
Initiative!

Calisst
Gideon
Crabby, concealment 1 more round
Everybody up!
"Tiny" Arctos |
Tiny growls as his readied attack misses, wheeling around and charging back to the base of the ladder before swinging his doshko at the crab at the top of the ladder. I think as a large creature I can attack the creature 10 feet up, potentially with some cover from the railing, etc.
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 30
Doshko: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Piercing: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Gideon Stix |
Gideon steps away from the crab-thing, giving room for Calisst to join in the fun. He draws his survival knife in case he has to fight it close up and personal. BAB of 0, so no drawing weapon as part of the move action, alas.
Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
Rex ponders the situation in his head. If only I could send some sort of electrical shock through the water, that would likely put an end to this crustacean.
If only I could have gotten ahold of something like a cattle prod.
As he laments, Rex tries to ascertain the crab's capabilities.
Life Science to ID: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
"Hit it!" The doctor diagnoses. Realizing that a tough, shell exoskeleton would likely be difficult to pierce, Rex directs a biohack to his ursine ally.
Tiny gains a +10-foot enhancement bonus to speed, which I believe would enhance his swim speed by 5-feet.
In the event that a ranged attack is required to hit Tiny: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Calisst Detabernak |
Calisst swings his whip. 2 strong ondulations can be seen moving on the crab.

GM Kate |
Tiny just barely misses while Calisst gets one massive hit. Rex boosts Tiny's speed while Gideon moves out of the way!
Rex recognizes a vurchyra! He knows that electrical shock would indeed be powerful, as these creatures are vulnerable to electricity. He also knows the hard shell means that they cannot be flanked.
Fort save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 It shakes off feeling sick.
The vurchyra lashes out once at Calisst and once at Tiny. Its limbs stop spinning around.

Though he's badly wounded, Tiny doesn't slow down, instead bringing his massive doshko around in another vicious arc!
Doshko: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Gideon Stix |
Gideon sees what the creature did to Tiny and Calisst, so he steps back again and fires his pistol.

Rex Remorhaz, Wonder Worker |
"Try shocking the creature! It is vulnerable to electricity, but don't bother trying to flank it." Rex yells before realizing the vurchyra is nearly upon him. He back pedals and tries to inject the creature from a distance.

It chases after Rex!

"A little help?" He smile weakly as he wimpers.
