Top Down
|
Init was 17 for round 3, Arrow to indicate move
Top Down moves in a straight line, but jerking the attitude control wildly trying to evade incoming fire. Getting us closer, keep on target!
Evade DC 13: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Piloting: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Inspector Xagyg
|
Round 3:
"Thanks!"
Encouraged, Xagyg lines up another shot at the platform.
High Explosive Missile Launcher: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 26, for 4d8 ⇒ (5, 7, 6, 1) = 19 damage.

Top Down brings the ship almost to point blank range with Drone 1 while evading.
Drone 2 swings around to your rear and fires.
llc: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Drone 1 also fires at your forward arc
llc: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Xagyg hits the platform with a missile as it launches a third drone
Tuek is still manning the gyrolaser which only shoots forward. The only target there is Drone one. He gets a free shot at it during it's failed flyby as well as a normal shot at it. Both hit.
gl: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
gl: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18 damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
--- Round 4 ---
Initiatives:
platform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
drone 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
drone 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
drone 3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
You -> 19
Drone 3 moves first to get into the fight, then you.
Platform:
engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
computers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Niobrar Platt
|
I was gonna taunt them, but since they're completely automated, I imagine they're immune.
Niobrar encourages the gunner using the gyrolaser.
Diplomacy, DC 15: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Well, he needs a second to retune his guitar.
Top Down
|
Pilot, Evade DC 13: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
You guys have your barf bags ready? No? That's too bad, because I'm going to invert a couple of times so they don't hit us
Top Down rams out a double corkscrew with an embedded loop, which is very hard on the esophagus, for those who have one.
Inspector Xagyg
|
Round 4:
Tenacious as a bulldog, Xagyg lines up another shot at the platform.
High Explosive Missile Launcher: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15, for 4d8 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 4) = 12 damage.
phaeton_nz
|
Did the pilot move the Drake on the map? Because it doesn't look like it
The platform takes another hit.
Top Down
|
Apologies for not moving...
Instead of evading, Top Down opts for a sickening sideways slide that aligns the front guns with the platform.
Slide, replaces previous roll: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Tuek the Kleptovoyant
|
Tuek switches over to the turret coil gun, anticipating getting a shot at the platform.
Gunner w/trinode computer: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11
phaeton_nz
|
Drone 2 follows you, sticking to your rear while Drone 1 maneuvers to keep pointing at you from in front. The platform moves to get out of your forward arc before launching a fourth drone.
Drone 3 can't shoot you but Drones 1 and 2 can.
drone 1 v forward shields: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
drone 2 v rear shields: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5
Both the coil gun and the missile launcher hit the platform on it's forward arc.
--- Round 5 ---
Initiatives:
platform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
drone 1: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
drone 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
drone 3: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
drone 4: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
engineering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
computers: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Top Down
|
Init round 5: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 I've got 1 rank in piloting
Hey, we're being hit from all sides! Which is good news, cause we have shields on all sides!
Looks like I'll need a flyby to move anywhere, so
Flyby, DC 15 + 1.5 Enemy Tier: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Niiiice
Get your middle digits ready, guys, we're going in close!
Top Down inverts and sheers so close past one of the drones that you can barely fit an AbadarCorp Credit Card between the two ships. Through the cockpit window, he makes sure to give the two-finger salute to the unmanned vessel.
I've put in a best-guess flight path
R6: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Inspector Xagyg
|
Round 4:
"How many drones does it have in stock!?"
Now getting a little nervous, Xagyg fires on the platform again.
High Explosive Missile Launcher: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14, for 4d8 ⇒ (1, 5, 8, 7) = 21 damage.
phaeton_nz

Flight order: D3, D2 D1, Platform, You, D4
The drones reposition themselves to surround you but you break out of that encirclement by doing a flyby past Drone 1. As you move towards the platform, it veers out of your way and you end up nose to nose to Drone 4.
The platform does not launch another drone and the only one that can shoot at you is Drone 4.
drone 4 v forward shields: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
The missile impacts on the rear of the platform. The platform looks like it's barely holding together
ct3: 1d100 ⇒ 20
Xeno The Chronicler
|
Xeno goes for the systems to hold their defenses together.
Engineering to Hold It Together: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Tuek the Kleptovoyant
|
Tuek tries to take advantage of the positioning and fires the turret coil gun at the platform.
Gunner w/trinode computer: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 = 16
Damage: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 1) = 12

And that's the killing blow. All the lights on the platform go dark. Also the drones power down.
Combat is over. What do you want to do now?
Niobrar Platt
|
"Yeah, that bloody sucked," Niobrar said, "We need to get on the ground in case they have more systems coming around orbit."
Inspector Xagyg
|
Xagyg breathes a sigh of relief.
"Phew. I was really worried there for a minute or two! I'm just glad the drones powered down when the platform was toast."
He then pauses in thought.
"Planets tend to be pretty big. At the very least, we should look for any evidence of settlement / old ruins, before heading down to the surface."
Top Down
|
Yup, planets are big. That's why I prefer ships. Top Down says, without much further explanation. Do you reckon we should salvage one of those probes for further study?
Would one fit into the cargo hold? Not sure how big they are
Maybe one of you scan try the scanners. I know they're not too hot on this vessel, but hopefully we can avoid landing on a big rock and scratching the paint.
Somebody should tell TD that the paint is likely already scratched a bit.
Once a suitable landing spot is identified, Top Down hits the reversers and lets gravity do the rest.
phaeton_nz
|
Yes it is possible to get a drone in the cargo bay - they are tiny.
The majority of Elytrio is a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Scans reveal that the planet has a breathable atmosphere, standard gravity, and higher than normal (though still harmless) levels of radiation. While most of Elytrio shows little sign of life, the ship’s computer picks up a large energy output from what appears to be a fully functional city in the southern hemisphere. These readings indicate the city has a level of technology that is comparable to that of the Pact Worlds (albeit slightly outdated), and that the city contains life forms of some kind. It seems like the best place to fulfill the mission Arvin has sent them on.
However, as you enter Elytrio’s atmosphere, the computer warns you that the city and a half-mile radius around it is encased in a powerful force field. The starship can’t land in or next to the city, but there is a safe landing zone fairly close to the edge of the force field. You can set down your vessel there with no problem—but that doesn’t mean they can just stroll safely into the city!
You land with a heavy thump that jolts everyone in their seats. It seems someone forgot to activate the landing thrusters.
Top Down
|
Well, that concludes the testing of our landing suspension. It held up after all. I hope you guys brought sneakers, because we have some walking to do!
Suit up! The radiation levels may be low, but I like my four arms as they are!

As you trudge, or fly, across the sands, please make perception checks.
Tuek the Kleptovoyant

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Tuek trudges across the sand. As he does so, he contemplates what may lie ahead.

((My post got eaten))
A creature bursts out of the sand nearby and lunges towards you. Only Top Down and Xeno can act by doing either a move OR a standard action.
After that, we roll for initiative. Slide have been set up.
Top Down

Hey guys, there's a... Top Down says, while pulling his gun
...thing! It's definitely a thing! Top Down shouts, steadily holding his gun, waiting a heartbeat to fire.

oh pronk, what is THAT: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Everyone but xeno gets to go before it.
Niobrar Platt
|
Niobrar swans off to the side to get on the creature's flank, pulling out his handcoil as he does. He takes a shot
Handcoil vs EAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Electric Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
(since there's no secondary target in 10 ft, it doesn't arc to my teammates)
Inspector Xagyg
|
"Oh, my!"
Deploying his wings, Xagyg buzzes 10' straight up, and sends a bolt of crackling electricity towards the monster.
Trick: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24. Flat-Footed.
Holy Underwater Living Static Arc Pistol: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13, for 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (5) + (4) = 9 Electricity damage.
Tuek the Kleptovoyant
|
"Trouble, for sure." Tuek retrieves a rifle and fires at the creature.
Ranged (hunting rifle): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Damage (P): 1d8 ⇒ 8
phaeton_nz

Both Xagyg and Tuek miss, Xagyg just barely. Niobrar scores a rather accurate shot (-9)
The creature seems to be more interested in seeing you come in pieces, easily digestible ones that is.
It does an Imposing Roar then goes for Niobrar.
As a move action, a sand brute can emit a ferocious roar. Each creature within 60 feet of the sand brute must succeed at a DC 12 Will saving throw or be shaken for 1d4 rounds. A creature who succeeds at its saving throw is immune to the same sand brute’s imposing roar for 24 hours. This is a mind-affecting, sense-dependent, fear effect.
Everyone is up.
Inspector Xagyg
|
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20.
Xagyg's buzzing wings continue to hoist him up into the sky (up another 10'), and he takes another shot.
"The first time it was just a ranging shot, I swear!"
Trick: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26. Flat-Footed.
Holy Underwater Living Static Arc Pistol: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20, for 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (4) + (2) = 6 Electricity damage.

Again, Niobrar pulls back with his tricky uncanny mobility.
Bluff Trick: 1d20 + 17 - 20 ⇒ (18) + 17 - 20 = 15 (if it is level 15 or less, I have the creature flat-footed)
