Summon Monster + Superior Summons: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

A simple gesture has his hound archon vanishing into nothingness, and soon after a small gang of small, lumpy fiends appear in the hallway. Malice shines in their beady, sunken eyes.

Xallis gestures towards where his other allies went. "Sir Tychus! Don't bother with these rabble, aid our friends! I'll keep them at bay and catch up with you."

Abyssal:
"And you lot, give them the stink. One after another, keep it layered!"

Round8

Jack hacks down the singed officer in a single swipe then cuts into the next officer in line.

Jack hits Traitorous Officer #6 for 19 damage which kills him. He hits Traitorous Officer #5 for 18 damage. The critical isn’t confirmed.

Tychus’ aim is true and he fills the grassling with a volley of four bolts. After the fourth bolt, the grassling shudders and wordlessly collapses.

Tychus hits grassling #2 four times for a total of 75 damage and kills it. All four shots were needed to kill that target.

Xallis wrote:
Not sure how to number them in google docs but we can just go 1, 2, 3, from the south to the north.

I’ll color them. Red #1, Yellow #2, Blue #3.

Three foul-smelling dretches appear. The first dretch starts tearing into the remaining grassling with its claws. The creature let’s out a high-pitched shriek of horror. Then a second dretch moves up to do the same. After the next claw, the creature’s adrenaline kicks in and it pulls away.

Dretch 1 (Red) hits Grassling #1 three times for a total of 17 damage.

Since Tychus killed Grassling #2, Dretch 2 (Yellow) can appear in the spot that enemy was and 5-ft. step to reach Grassling #1. It hits Grassling #1 once for 7 damage.

Stinking Cloud Saves DC 13
Grassling #1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Traitorous Officer #1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Jondus: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

The officer in the cloud turns green and starts retching at the unholy stink. Jondus merely wrinkles his pointy nose in disgust. A few horses get caught up in the effect and whinny loudly in fear. They pull at their tethers but are bound in place. (They’ll be fine once the effect clears.)

Grassling #1 and Jondus pass the save and are not nauseated (this round). Traitorous Officer #1 fails and is nauseated. (The 1d4+1 duration doesn’t start until after a creature leaves the cloud. Also, dretches are immune to stinking cloud since stinking cloud is a poison effect and dretches are immune to poison. The concealment aspect still applies to everyone.

Julania swings her hammer and the nearest soldier. The first strike bangs against his shield. The second strike bangs against his head.

Since Officer #6 died, Julania can attack Taldan Traitor #10 who is also adjacent. She hits him once for 8 damage.

Finally, Henrika bluffs the enemy, getting him to look up and then cuts under his defenses.

Henrika successfully bluffs Taldan Traitor #10 and hits him twice for a total for a total of 69 damage and kills him. (Her first hit didn’t kill the enemy, so both were needed).

Henrika wrote:
"It surprises me that a follower of Erastil would countenance working with traitors and criminals to sabotage the local community. Perhaps your operation has failed for other reasons."

Jaliessa replies, ”You know nothing of my motives, nor am I inclined to enlighten you.”

Grassling – Claw vs. Tychus’ AC 26: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

The grassling caught between a dretch and a hard place, dashes out of the cloud and through the dretches to charge at Tychus. Tychus is caught off guard by the sudden rush but his armor saves him.

Grassling successfully uses acrobatics to move through the dretches’ space and makes one attack against Tychus that misses.

Taldan Traitor #9 – Scimitar vs. Jack’s AC 22: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

The last traitor makes a brave and desperate strike against the towering half-orc. He wounds Jack but then takes a step back in fear of retaliation.

Taldan Traitor #9 hits Jack for 6 damage then takes a 5-ft. step back.

Nauseated Duration: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Completely disabled by stomach distress, the officer turns to his left and hurries down the side hallway to escape the cloud. He loses his lunch on the floor and doesn’t look like he’ll be recovering anytime soon.

Traitorous Officer #1 moves out of the stinking cloud and will remain nauseated for 5 more rounds.

Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

The remaining traitorous officer in the mess hall swings a deadly cleave in a line in front of him, badly injuring both Trevor and Malphene, and taking down Jack.

(I described as a cleave, but its just his two base attacks plus haste attack.) Traitorous Officer #5 hits Trevor with a critical hit for 16 damage. He hits Malphene for 10 damage. And he hits Jack for 8 damage. Jack falls to -2 and is dying.

Dying:
A dying creature is unconscious and near death. Creatures that have negative hit points and have not stabilized are dying. A dying creature can take no actions. On the character’s next turn, after being reduced to negative hit points (but not dead), and on all subsequent turns, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check to become stable. The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total. A character that is stable does not need to make this check. A natural 20 on this check is an automatic success. If the character fails this check, he loses 1 hit point. If a dying creature has an amount of negative hit points equal to its Constitution score, it dies.

Nauseated:
Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move action per turn.

Stinking Cloud:
Fort DC 13. Stinking cloud creates a bank of fog like that created by fog cloud, except that the vapors are nauseating. Living creatures in the cloud become nauseated. This condition lasts as long as the creature is in the cloud and for 1d4+1 rounds after it leaves. (Roll separately for each nauseated character.) Any creature that succeeds on its save but remains in the cloud must continue to save each round on your turn. This is a poison effect. The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target).

Trevor and Malphene go.

Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (4, 3) + 12 = 19

Jondus Fort DC 13: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Jondus wades through the cloud, only a shadowy humanoid shape marks his presence. Out from the fog, his earth breaker comes swinging at the dretch in front of him, smashing it in the jaw and then shattering the doorframe just inches from the adjacent dretch.

”Filthy! Vile! Disguising creatures!” he curses.

Jondus hits Dretch (Red) for 11 damage after DR and misses Dretch (Yellow) due to concealment. He succeeds on the Fortitude save against the stinking cloud and is unaffected this round.

Anua – Gore vs. Trevor’s AC 21: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (2, 3) + 18 = 23

Anua rams at Trevor again. This time, Trevor is expecting the attack and dodges to the side. Jaliessa calls Anua back to her.

Anua attacks Trevor and misses, then moves west 25 ft. This will provoke from Trevor.

Trevor – AoO, bless, haste vs. Anua: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Trevor’s attack grazing the ram’s barding as it repositions.

Trevor’s AoO on Anua is a miss.

”I’ll stop you even if I have to bring the whole building down on top of your heads!”

Then Jaliessa steps back near her companion and conjures another spell. This time conjuring a rain of dirt, gravel, and pebbles to pelt nearly everyone in the room, shattering furniture, and leaving the area covered in difficult terrain.

Spellcraft DC 17:
Stone Call

Bludgeoning Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6

The spell is a 40-ft. radius centered near Jack. Everyone in the area takes 6 damage. (That’s Henrika, Julania, Trevor, Malphene, Jack, Icabhod, Air Elemental, Traitorous Officer #5, and Taldan Traitor #9). There is no saving throw. The area (marked by rocks) is difficult terrain for 11 rounds.

Small Air Elemental – Slam vs. Henrika’s AC 23: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Displacement 50%: 1d100 ⇒ 37
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Small Air Elemental misses Henrika due to concealement.

Nauseated:
Creatures with the nauseated condition experience stomach distress. Nauseated creatures are unable to attack, cast spells, concentrate on spells, or do anything else requiring attention. The only action such a character can take is a single move action per turn.

Prone:
The character is lying on the ground. A prone attacker has a –4 penalty on melee attack rolls and cannot use a ranged weapon (except for a crossbow). A prone defender gains a +4 bonus to Armor Class against ranged attacks, but takes a –4 penalty to AC against melee attacks.

(Roll separately for each nauseated character.) Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target).

Stone Call:
For the remaining duration of the spell, this debris covers the ground, making the entire area difficult terrain. At the end of the duration, the rocks disappear, leaving no aftereffects (other than the damage dealt).

Jack, Icabhod, Tychus, Xallis, Julania, and Henrika go next.

You know what, I was looking at the map again, and the stone call would probably squeeze through the open door to get Xallis and the dretch (blue) too. Xallis take 6 bludgeoning damage and the Dretch takes 1 bludgeoning damage. Sorry.

Lightning Bolt Reflex Saves DC 14
Grassling: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Jondus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

The grassling dodges to the side of Xallis’ lightning bolt but is still too weak to survive. Jondus, still in the cloud, doesn’t see the lightning bolt coming and takes the full brunt of the attack.

Grassling #1 passes the Reflex save against lightning bolt and takes 7 damage and dies. Jondus fails the Reflex save and takes 14 damage.

The first dretch (red) scratches against Jondus’ breastplate but then its bite finds flesh. Jondus yelps and shakes the demon free.

Dretch (red)’s two claw attacks against Jondus are misses. Its bite hits for 4 damage.

The next dretch (blue) moves up to bite Jondus but passes gas as it walks and finds it too funny to focus on his attack.

Since the grassling died, I moved dretch (blue) up to Jondus. His bite misses.

The last dretch (yellow) extends the area of the stinking cloud.

Jondus is already in a cloud so he doesn’t need to make another save.

With a flick of her wrist, Henrika banishes the air elemental back to the Plane of Air and moves towards the commander.

Henrika hits the small air elemental for 32 damage and kills it.

With Jack on the ground, the traitor regains his courage and steps forward to attack Icabhod as he enters through the doorway.

Traitorous Officer #1 does nothing.

"You're going to have to do better than that to stop me."

Jondus uses cleave and power attack to attack Dretch (Red) and Dretch (Blue). He hits Dretch (Red) for 14 damage after DR and kills it. He hits Dretch (Blue) for 14 damage after DR. Round 10

The officer is focused on the standing opponents and isn’t looking at Jack on the ground. Jack catches him unaware but he is still heavily armored. The first strike merely dented his shin guard. But then striking the same point again, Jack takes the soldier’s leg out from under him and he goes down.

Jack’s first attack is a miss. Jack’s second attack hits Traitorous Officer #5 for 18 damage and kills him.

Icabhod stabs back at his opponent and runs his rapier through him. The traitor coughs up a wad of blood and wobble unsteadily.

Icabhod has heroism whish is +2 to hit which is better than the +1 from bless which matters in this case because a 19 is a miss but a 20 isn’t. Icabhod hits Taldan Traitor #9 for 21 damage.

Anua is a stubborn beast, but still Henrika manages to trick it. And with the help of Julania’s flanking, she gets two solid hits off on the ram.

Anua is just an animal so the feint gets a -8, but an 18 still succeeds on the dot. Anua will lose its Dex until Henrika’s next turn. Henrika hits Anua twice for 29 damage. Anua does have some pretty high AC. Henrika did need Julania’s flanking for that second attack to hit.

Malphene – Longsword, Bless, Haste vs. Taldan Traitor #9: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 1 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Malphene Climb DC 5: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Malphene finishes off the last traitor then wades through the rubble towards the commander. She hoists herself up onto the table next to the ram.

Malphene hits Taldan Traitor #9 for 9 damage and kills him. Then moves forward, climbing onto the table.

Trevor – Channel Energy: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 6) = 13

Trevor’s channel energy heals 13 hp to Henrika, Malphene, Julania, Trevor, Jack, Icabhod, and Tychus.

Round 11

Jondus – Earth Breaker, Vital Strike, Furious Focus, Power Attack vs. Hound Archon’s AC 19: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Concealment 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 30
Damage: 4d6 + 12 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 2) + 12 = 22

Jondus swings his hammer and hits the hound archon hard but the archon is quite sturdy.

Jondus hits the hound archon for 12 damage after DR.

Jondus – Climb DC 5: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

”Curse you! I’ll need a new strategy.” says Jondus. He leaps over the railing and moves out of the choking cloud. Then he let’s out a shrill whistle and you hear a high-pitched cry in response and the sound of leathery wings beating.

Jondus climbs over the railing. It is only a 5-ft. drop off the side, so he doesn’t get hurt. He whistles as a free action. Desert drake is joining the initiative. This does provoke from the hound archon.

Desert Drake Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Hound Archon AoO, power attack vs. Jondus: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 2) + 12 = 20

Hound Archon’s attack of opportunity misses.

Anua – Gore, Power Attack, High Ground vs. Henrika’s AC 23: 1d20 + 14 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 14 + 1 = 22
Displacement 50%: 1d100 ⇒ 44

Anua – Greater Bull Rush vs. Malphene’s CMD 20: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Anua tries to head butt Henrika again. It fails to connect but Henrika can feel its stinking warm break down her neck. Then, not liking to share its perch, knocks Malphene off the table.

Anua attacks Henrika and misses. Then it bull rushes Malphene back 5 ft.

Jaliessa – Shatterspike vs. Henrika’s AC 23: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23

Jaliessa – Shatterspike vs. Henrika’s AC 23: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Displacement 50%: 1d100 ⇒ 67
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Jaliessa attacks Henrika twice. Her first strike is thrown off by the displacement and the second is dodged. ”I thought you were a reckless fool, but I can see you have some skill. You are a worthy opponent.”

Jaliessa attacks Henrika twice and both attacks miss.

Stone Call:
For the remaining duration of the spell, this debris covers the ground, making the entire area difficult terrain. At the end of the duration, the rocks disappear, leaving no aftereffects (other than the damage dealt).

Since the last officer is basically unable to act for 3 more turns, everyone can go this time.

I'm assuming she doesn't immediately throw down her sword and call off her animal companion. :)

Henrika sighs. She can see that her words do not have the time they would need to sink in and affect the outcome of the fight. Resigned, she makes another feint, taking a big swing seemingly at the ram's mistress to make it flinch. Then she attempts to run the beast through.

Julania’s magic weapon spell wears off.

Henrika wrote:

”That’s just not happening. This only ends one way: either with your death or mine.”

Henrika tricks Anua again and gets in two more hits. Anua bleats in pain and looks like its about to fall off the table but it stubbornly fights until its last breath.

Henrika successfully feints Anua and hits it twice for a total of 37 damage.

Seeing Jaliessa won’t surrender, Tychus takes his shot. Jaliessa uses Henrika as cover making her harder to hit and the bolt just misses.

Tychus’ attack on Jaliessa is a miss, due to soft cover.

The officer remains nauseated.

Malphene gets back up onto the table and runs her longsword through the ram. It lets out a final bleat and dies. ”Anua!” shouts Jaliessa. She stares daggers of hate at Malphene.

Malphene hits Anua for 8 damage and kills it. The bit of luck from Julania would apply to this turn. She succeeded on both the climb and the attack roll so I don’t see a need to roll a second roll for either. But the effect will last until her next turn in case she needs to make a saving through of something.

Round 12

With incredible speed, the drake flies out of its aviary and lands right in the middle of the stinking cloud with a loud crash, flanking the archon with Jondus. It rears up its head to take a bite out of the hound archon.

I realized that the hound archon has a magic circle against evil that I didn’t take into account. Jondus and the drake are evil so the hound archon gets +2 AC against them.

The drake bites into the hound archon, its teeth crackle with electricity which has no effect on the summons.

Desert drake hits the hound archon for 6 damage after DR. The hound archon is immune to electricity. The desert drake passes the save for the stinking cloud.

Desert Drake Lore

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 18:

•A desert drake’s type is dragon (earth).
•Among the fiercest of their kind, desert drakes exhibit a lust for destruction as merciless as any desert storm. These fierce, ambush predators hunt by finding high perches among rocky outcroppings and surveying their surroundings. When likely prey wanders into sight, a desert drake dives into the sand and burrows toward its quarry or flies low with cover from dunes or other outcroppings. Drawing near the likely path of its victims, it bursts from the sand or dives from above to catch foes off guard, preferring to attack targets that exhibit the most fear first. Before enemies can recover from the initial onslaught, a desert drake exhales a cloud of electrified dust, using its superior senses to press the attack.

Knowledge (Arcana) DC 23:

•A desert drake is immune to paralysis and sleep.
•A desert drake is resistant to electricity.
•A desert drake can spit a ball of electrically charged sand that bursts into a cloud.
•A desert drake can draw on its draconic heritage for a boost of strength and speed.
•Desert drakes speak Draconic.

Dragon Traits

Knowledge (Arcana) - Automatic:

•Immunity to magic sleep effects and paralysis effects.

Round 12

Acrobatics (catch): 1d20 ⇒ 2

Sadly, the lore warden isn't fast enough to catch the magic rapier. But, even without a weapon, Dame Malphene Trant is dangerous. The fighter roars and lunges at Jaliessa.

Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Malphene does have Improved Unarmed Strike
Dmg.: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Round 12

Jack’s first swing misses for calling Commander Jaliessa a lieutenant =). His second attack catches her leg.

Jack hits Jaliessa for 17 damage.

Icabhod doesn’t know which way he wants to go.

Jaliessa sees Tychus aiming at her out of the corner of her eye and ducks down dodging two out of the three bolts. One bolt hits and protrudes from her body dripping blood down her armor.

Tychus hits Jaliessa once for 16 damage.

Xallis also batters Jaliessa with a ranged attack, slamming her with magic missiles.

Xallis hits Jaliessa for 9 damage.

Hound Archon Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

As Jondus is raising his arms for another strike, the hound archon swings his greatsword and severs both his hands clean off. Jondus’ hammer crashes to the ground and the officer falls backwards and bleeds out with his last words, ”Fathrie… Forgive me… I love you.”. Curiously, the hound archon notices a copper bracelet engraved with hearts on one of Jondus’ dismembered wrists pulses slightly a few times before winking out. With Jondus dead, the hound archon turns to desert drake but cannot pierce its armor-like scales.

The hound archon’s greatsword crits on a 19-20 so with the confirmation I rolled about, he hits Jondus with a critical hit for 36 damage and kills him. His second greatsword attack and bite are misses on the drake.

Jaliessa regrets leaving Julania alive after she climbs up onto the table after her and rips open her back. ”You whelp! I’ll…” Jaliessa sentence trails off. The lights in her eyes begin to darken from blood loss.

Julania gets a critical hit on Jaliessa for 47 damage. She’s still alive though.

Then Henrika finishes the job, she easily bluffs the commander who can barely register the attack and swings her sword down, ending the woman’s life.

Henrika hits Jaliessa for 31 damage and kills her. Since the bonus attack wasn’t needed, keep your hero point.

The nauseated officer creeps forward, still sickened, to see how the fight is going. Badly. The servants finally decide to make a run for it, taking their chances passing the surly elephant.

Malphene wrote:

Since Jaliessa is no longer a threat, Malphene can use her action to pick up the weapon, unless Trevor would rather choose not to throw it. That’s okay too.

Throwing your weapon would be a standard action, not a move action. As for that use of create water. No, you can’t do that. I’m pretty flexible with player creativity but create water cannot be used offensively like that. Sorry. Since Jaliessa is dead, if Trevor wants to change his actions for the round, I’ll allow it.

Round 13

Desert Drake – Bite, Power Attack vs. Hound Archon’s AC 21: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Concealment 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 99

Concealment 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Damage: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

The drake strikes at the hound archon again with a bite that should have killed it if not for its natural resistances. Then it swings a powerful tail swipe around that the archon ducks under.

Desert Drake Fort DC 13: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

The desert drake hits the hound archon for 13 damage after DR. Its tail slap is a miss. It passes the save for the stinking cloud.

Stone Call:
For the remaining duration of the spell, this debris covers the ground, making the entire area difficult terrain. At the end of the duration, the rocks disappear, leaving no aftereffects (other than the damage dealt).

Everyone goes. It’s just you and the drake. And officer #1, I suppose. Does he even count?

The lore warden pickup the magical rapier. "What about you!?" Malphene nearly barks instead of asks.

"I'll be alright", Trevor says, unslinging the crossbow from his back. "You are the Warrior of the two of us. Now go kill us a dragon, won't you?"

Trevor is greatly relieved to see Jaliessa fall. Killing someone by filling their lungs with ale is considered a major taboo to Cayden.

The cleric uses his turn to load a bolt into the crossbow.
