Can Dhampir take the Vampire Template?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Do you think they can? Would their racial substitutions aid the Vampire Template?

For example the Dayborn Trait would that negate or just weaken the Weakness to Sunlight? How would you play it?

I would let them take the class from the Savage Species thread. They start out as still living but eventually become undead.

Could you link me that thread?

It is on the second or so post on that page in version 15, page 144 or so. It is called Vampire (Born). I am working on a Herolab file for it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Strictly mechanically, Damphir can become vampires with no issues at all. They meet all the requirements for the template to be applied. None of their living traits would have any effect on the vampire weaknesses.

Ah I was not sure if something prohibited them or if their traits would curb the weaknesses. Since they are made immune to the sun by Dayborn.

Thematically I wanted a Dhampir who as he ages and grows becomes more vampire in nature but has to fight the desires it imposes (Lots of Will saves, especially around wounded allies)

Dayborn doesn't give them "immunity to the sun" it is just removing a Racial trait (Weakness) they normally have,
basically putting them on par with other normal races in that regard, e.g. Human.
Thus, being Dayborn (or other Dhampir variants that replace Weakness) is irrelevant if you gain Sunlight Weakness from another source.

Very true makes perfect sense.

would a Dhampir with the Half Vampire Template from 3.5 be to Powerful?

The character would be lvl 10 to start

Starting Stats
18, 12, 15, 11, 10, 14

Liberty's Edge

I mean, I would apply the usual level adjustment of 1-2 depending on GM preference.

I find the easiest thing to do is just disallow Dhampir, Half-Undead, etc.

Because how can you be "half not-living?" Even accepting the unusualness of magic, that stretches the imagination a little too hard. :P

But for the sake of argument: The reason Dayborn doesn't negate the Vampire weakness is because it does something entirely different. A Dayborn Dhampir that is turned into a full vampire does not have the "Light Sensitivity" racial trait, but sunlight will still kill them.
In other words, as said character is burning to death in sunlight, they won't be Dazzled. ;)

I was thinking of adding Dread Vampire to Dhampir which is a living being who is like an undead, not undead himself.

He would be 7 class level and 3 Racial levels right?
