It is shaping up to be a fun party. It does not look like we have anyone in this group that can fight. That should be interesting. :)

![]() |

@GM & All I've realized that Jair is now level 10th, I can bring my level 7 Wizard/Monk if it's better.
Oof. Yeah. You obviously can't bring the level 10.
I don't think I've ever seen a monk/wizard in play. Sounds awesome.

![]() |

I think there is a 10-11 tier available, so technically I think we could have Jair, she would get OOT gold.
Given we are playing at 8-9 anyway and she is the only one at 10 we'd not change tiers. And given we have Sylvester (level 6) and no tanks, having a level 10 cleric may be handy...

Unfortunately, we can't have 2 out of tier PCs at opposite ends in the same game.
i.e. We can have our level 6 & 7, but not a level 10.

A wizard/monk would be MAD as hell but the arcane spells would really help the monk out in a core game. It is a fun combination that I have never really considered. All those delicious touch spells that a monk could put to good use. :)
With all of these low tier characters we might be shifting the tier played down to 5-6 unless we pick up a 6th character. Characters will not need to worry about the gold rewards however as in-tier characters will receive full 8-9 gold. A quirk of a special with so many sub-tiers. :)

Name: miteke
Character name: Silgil
OP#: 141936-5
Faction: Grand Lodge
Day job roll (if any): Like Bella, Silgil specializes in jewelry! Though he crafts it. Perhaps they should work together?
Craft (jewelry): 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Wadda ya say, Bella? He makes good stuff :)
Found the references to Deluge, one of my other characters, quite amusing!

I'm happy either way.
A bard, a wizard, two clerics and a sorcerer walk into a scenario.... It sounds like the start of a bad joke.
And the wizard has the highest hp.

Yes!!!
(I had no idea you had a PC named Deluge. Lol.)

DM Carbide |

Deluge was along on Bonekeep Part 2, of evil memory; I think he blew his save when the ogre's necklace of fireballs went off. If we hadn't had three PCs with evasion, it would've been a TPK right there. As opposed to later in the scenario.

![]() |

(I had no idea you had a PC named Deluge. Lol.)
Here I am! Even a core character too.

![]() |

Question: If you have a non-core spell in your spellbook, can you get that spell on a scroll or in a wand?

*facepalm*
We were in that game together!

Good question. I have no idea--I'll check.

![]() |

Question: If you have a non-core spell in your spellbook, can you get that spell on a scroll or in a wand?
Nope. The spell was scribed from another PC.
Wizards in PFS get Spell Focus as a bonus feat instead of Scribe Scroll. And, there is no magic item crafting (wands) in PFS.

Not a good moment. Nasty, nasty surprise we could do nothing about. The problem is that there were many saves and in order to live he had to make most of them. It was a foregone deal he would die.

I figured as much.

If a Core cleric, druid, ranger, or paladin finds a scroll of a non-Core spell on a chronicle sheet, can they prepare the spell? If not, it seems as if Core wizards are best off among the spellcasting classes as far as accessing non-Core options. (That's a good argument against letting them get scrolls or wands of non-Core spells, I think--they already get something no other Core casters can have.)

![]() |

If a Core cleric, druid, ranger, or paladin finds a scroll of a non-Core spell on a chronicle sheet, can they prepare the spell?
No. They have to scribe it first before preparing. After paying the costs to scribe and succeeding at the check, it's in their spellbook. So then they can "prepare" it.
And, apparently, only wizards in PFS can do this. I was wondering if bards could transcribe scrolls/spells.

DM Carbide |

I don't think so--no other caster uses spell books, so all the rest are SOL as far as non-Core spells are concerned.
On the other hand, I don't know how big a problem it is. How many scenarios come with capturable spell books or scrolls?

BK level 2 was nasty. It wasn't a TPK, I think someone survived. Though it was darn close. It was my first time ever killing any character in PFS though.
At some stage I have to run level 3, just for completeness. Too busy at the moment though.
I thought there was something about non wizards also getting access to non-core spells from chronicles. But the article on even wizards getting access was a long time ago.
There are quite a few non core spells that appear - especially in later seasons - in spellbooks and scrolls.
EDIT: Found it here
The key bit being:
Other PCs able to cast spells—spontaneously or from a divine spell list that does not depend on a spellbook—can learn spells they find in scroll form so long as they buy the scroll and expend it to add the spell to her list of legal spells; spontaneous spellcasters must still expend known spell slots in order to learn the spell. These PCs cannot learn non-Core spells from spellbooks.

![]() |

@Jair - Your 10th level character is not a legal choice for this party considering that there is already a 6th and 7th level character already playing.
Besides there are a lot of people interested in seeing your wizard/monk in action. :)

![]() |

That is a pretty neat idea. I like it. :)
You might want to prepare a Shocking Grasp or Chill Touch for a little extra zing for your flurries. Your character would be able to cast the spell before combat and then hold the charge. 1st level pearls of power would do wonders for your character's casting endurance and are so cheap.

![]() |

Thanks ;)
Agreed for Shocking Grasp and Chill touch. My initial spell list was more defensive.
I was saving for my monk's robe so no 1st level pearls of power for now (but it's a future buy for the next scenario)

![]() |

Will Ibaz be wanting a Mage Armor cast on him? Silgil is your man if so but I'll need a heads up so I can prepare an extra copy. Actually Sylvester could also do the deed and probably has more spell slots available being a sorcerer and all, but let me know if you want me to set a side a spell slot, Silgil can do it at 7th level and extended to 14 hours if we are going to be travelling a lot.

![]() |

@Ibaz - Perhaps updating your information in the Gameday spread sheet would be good idea as you are no longer playing Jair.
@DM Carbide - It would seem that we will be playing tier 5-6 now instead of tier 8-9 with the average character level rounding down to 7.

DM Carbide |

It looks that way, yes. You'd have a rather easy time of it in that case.
Given that, what does the party want? I'm presuming that no one has any other characters closer to the nominal tier. Silgil and Khellek, you're the highest-level--what do you think? There are no pregens that would help--even if Sylvester plays a 7th level pregen the APL would be 7.4.

![]() |

Khellek is not much of a combat monster. He buffs others and uses Bessie (his crossbow) if he has time. Think of him more as an enchantment wizard without any in combat spells.
BTW, Khellek does slow advancement.

![]() |

@Ibaz - We do not have a choice to play up. With five players we are required to play the (lower) 5-6 sub-tier.
Fortunately higher level characters will be receiving 8-9 tier gold (despite the fact that we are playing a lower sub-tier game). This is special provision for specials with four or more sub-tiers (like this one).

![]() |

With that I guess we do low tier.

DM Carbide |

Let me rephrase the question. With these characters we're locked into low tier. The question is whether that's acceptable to the players, because if not there may be options involving reconfiguring the party.

![]() |

@DM Carbide - As high level (8-9) characters would be receiving the same gold rewards (as playing tier 8-9) but with less risk what possible objection could a player have?
That being said if a player has an objection and we have a viable solution then we should at least listen to it. :)

![]() |

I'm all good playing 5-6 tier. Especially with just core characters.

![]() |

Likewise.

![]() |

Ditto.

DM Carbide |

OK, pending any changes we'll go with that. The combat map is linked in the campaign header, but I'm currently unable to paste in your tokens. Please do so at your earliest convenience; otherwise, I'll add them tonight (GMT -5).

![]() |

but I'm currently unable to paste in your tokens. (GMT -5).
Are you getting the little warning symbol with the exclamation point when trying to insert an image? That's what I'm getting when trying to add Bella's token.

DM Carbide |

No, I'm at work, and since they block the Paizo boards I can only see it from my phone. I usually make tokens with the Windows clip tool and the Characters tab; I could do something similar with a screen capture on my phone, but would have to do more editing. It'd be tedious and time-consuming.

![]() |

A little confused here. Should we be in the stands or on the floor? I figured we would be in the stands but everyone else is out on the floor.

DM Carbide |

You're starting out in the stands. Once everyone's tokens are on the board I'll arrange them correctly.

![]() |

Done. Sylvester was the only one missing and I added his to the group. There are now 5 icons for the 5 players.
