A bit surprised the door itself is detecting as magic, Korbin says, ”It is unusual for a door itself to detect as magic. Perhaps it has some kind of arcane lock or magical trap on it.”. He focuses his Detect Magic spell on the magical effect to try and better understand it.

You need knowledge arcana to determine a spell in place. It will take three rounds.

@Brvheart, I take it my search of the idol's room found nothing... Also, do Terodius and Korbin need to make the will saves?

(Usually it is 15 + spell level according to Detect Magic)
(Did the voice come from the door?)
Identify a spell effect that is in place Arcana 20 + spell level
Table: Spellcraft DCs
Identify a spell as it is being cast 15 + spell level
Identify the properties of a magic item using detect magic 15 + item’s caster level
Since what you want is to know what spell is in place the proper check is knowledge arcana.

No it is not a follower of Set. What door? What stairs? You just see a wall.

Brv did we all hear that?
It was a magic mouth, sorry. It was late when posting.

I presume No mi name has already taken the eyes. If not they are still there. Beyond that are simply the braziers in the room with the statue.

[dice=knowledge Arcane]1d20 + 18
Judging by the colors of the aura, it's Arcane locked.
That is correct, but that prompts a second magic mouth upon the door as the spear trap attempts to activate even though it is disabled.
“YOU WERE WARNED!”

”You detect magical auras. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.
1st Round: Presence or absence of magical auras.
2nd Round: Number of different magical auras and the power of the most potent aura.
3rd Round: The strength and location of each aura. If the items or creatures bearing the auras are in line of sight, you can make Knowledge (arcana) skill checks to determine the school of magic involved in each. (Make one check per aura: DC 15 + spell level, or 15 + 1/2 caster level for a nonspell effect.) If the aura eminates from a magic item, you can attempt to identify its properties (see Spellcraft).”
”Looks like some kind of illusion effect, but I can’t tell what specific spell,” says Korbin just before the mouth speaks.
As it starts to talk, he says, Oh, yeah, that makes sense. Seems like there may be another overlapping aura too. ”

No it is not a follower of Set. What door? What stairs? You just see a wall.
Ok, magic mouth produces real sound, so I am following the dialog, but just see a wall (no door, no stairs)...
"Ok, something weird is going on here. Why is Ratel trying to open a wall? Ciri, Korbin, what are you two looking at so intently? What the heck is spouting these threatening messages?"
Minor note, Korbin, you skipped the will save vs the illusion covering the door and the stairs, but at this point, I'd say just roll with it...
As a rules note, "... If any viewer successfully disbelieves an illusion and communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a saving throw with a +4 bonus." so if someone points out that there's an illusion covering a door and a stairway, that would be helpful for both Fralk and I...

Ratel Dier |

Rattling the handle on the 'door' he'd seen again, Ratel pauses, looking from the gnome to the goblin. wordlessly he steps back Waiting for the shorter magical folks to sort it out.

Fralk ibn Sabbah |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Hearing the sound at the door... Ho! I know your name, he points to the paladin.
Ratel. Rat-el... rattle! Eeeveryone have name. Name is... sound we make in world.
His accent, if one could call it that makes the name and word sound closer than they should. The goblin seems pleased with himself.

With Ratel ratling the door, the wall of fire trap attempts to go off, but is disabled. Another magic mouth appears:
“STUBBORN, AREN’T WE!”

(Sorry, did not realize the ‘door’ was behind the curtain. Korbin was asleep for that part. Will save with +4 on the way, especially since he noticed several illusion auras with Detect Magic)
Will Save: 1d20 + 13 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 4 = 19
(Apparently Korbin is just offering to dispel illusions on a wall that others are saying has a door, since he can’t currently see through the illusion.)

"Slim" Jim |

"Not sure what to make of all this magic, please be careful in case there's a trap or something..." remarked Jim.

brvheart |

Fralk's perception was over 40 so he found both traps within the room of which he was able to disable both of them.

Ratel Dier |

Not sure why Terodius can't see the stairs, he gestures towards the stairs, "The Stairs, same wall as the door." Gesturing towards the door, he asks, "You see the door right?"
Honestly I'm a little lost on who can see what.

Korbin_Tealeaf |

"I understand that there is a door and stairs behind the illusion, but I cannot currently see them. Perhaps opening the door or walking a few steps up the stairs will break the illusion, or I also have offered to try and dispel it with my magic," replies Korbin.

Terodius and Korbin do not see the door nor the stairs, everyone else can.

"Slim" Jim |

"Do we have any reason to believe what it said?" asked Jim. Granted magical talking mouths didn't seem anymore credible than the sorcerer who placed them and they had no idea who that was.
"If not let's just open this door and cleanse whatever evil lurks beyond."

Terodius walks up beside Ratel and tries to push his hand through the "illusion"... (and into the staircase). That should be enough to trigger another saving throw, at +4

"Hah! Tricky bastard wizards, now I see your door and stairs Ratel."
He turns to the door, and uses detect alignment to see there is an aura (of evil, chaos, law or good), radiating from behind the door...

Raising an eyebrow as the Goblins blade slithers to the door, touching it and then becoming a bracelet, Ratel assumes that the magic had been lifted and attempts to open the door again.

I am not going to comment on Ciri's upgrade of the weapon from the 3.5 version and just roll with it for the purpose's of this room. But in the future, the spell absorbtion only works on a confirmed crit on an attack.

I am sure eventually, but the only person that knows anything is Ratel and he has not even stated he is entering the room to know it. So unless you are entering the room your init will be delayed.

Ratel Dier |

Seeing something that looks like a snake with a human head, Ratel, not wanting to spend the few seconds to determine if it is evil or not, pulls the door shut. Nodding his head towards the door, he informs the others. "This room seems to have a snakelike creature with a human head." He looks towards the others, "Anyone have any idea what it may be, or if we need to kill it?" He turns towards the goblin, "Or should we just spike the door and continue?"
