Burn finishes removing his armor. Then he belts his sword and pistol on over the tight long underwear that was his base layer.

After Twila and Kyra mention the Strix valuing teamwork. Burn nods. He makes some calculations based on observations of his companions and says, "Twila, you look most capable. You and Kyra team up. I'll work with Kina. "

The man strides up the slope a short distance. He stops when he begins to slip backwards and turns to offer KINAA a hand up.

Fun. I like the way the challenge is laid out with the teamwork aspect. Of course Burn can't say anything if the others didn't share their insights.

Now that we're in the thick of it, the DC here is 16

The team of Kyra IO and Twila-5 make it to the top without too much effort, though it was dicey in a few spots.

[ooc]I used Burnham's roll, then applied his Aid to KINNA's first roll to calculate where we are. To finish Burnham should make a few more posts like Team #2 did and KINAA should add a few Aid Another checks.

If we tie my cable onto K.I.N.A.A.'s chair and leave a long tail for Burn, we can pull you up." Taking a secure grip on one end, with enough length for Kyra to grab on as well, Twila-5 tosses the rest down the slope toward their teammates.

Is Twila-5's 50 foot cable long enough to help from where she stands at the top? If not, she'll wade back down to be within reach.

The team of Twila-5 and Kyra IO start to head down. Twila-5's deft handling of the dunes is on full display, but an early accident with Kyra IO sends her tumbling! The accident is scary, and it leaves the Starfinder agent banged up Bludgeoning DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5. She gets lucky, avoiding the what could have been noticeably worse!

A similar fate befalls the team of K.I.N.A.A and Burnham. K.I.N.A.'s fall is Bludgeoning DMG: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12 much worse, about as bad as it can get.

Still, an honorable wound is more impressive to the strix than a cheating success. The mostly taciturn Koyonn simply grunts. He doesn't immediately move from the spot to the next, indicating that he won't judge you if you need to take a breather. 10 minute rest to spend RP to fill up SP if you'd like. Otherwise we move on.

| Unearthing Ulumbia | Fly Free or Die | | Ship Roles |

I'll advance to maintain momentum. If you want to rest for 10, simply spend the RP in your next post.

Koyonn the guardstryx leads you to a flat expanse of sand. In the ring is a kasathan who stands with a pair of elemental looking dogs called silicanids. (Life Science to ID.) Koyonn gives the kasatha a pat on the shoulder. “This is Teosen, Zaira’s protege. He watched your run and volunteered to be your opponent in a bout of sparring. My guard squad will be too much for your team, but he should give you a workout.”

Teosen nods solemnly, adjusting the colorful wrap around his face. “My companions will be joining me for the match.” He gestures toward the silicanids. “I don’t want the match to be too easy for you, Starfinders.”

No RP spent for Twila-5. She's not trained in Life Science.

Well, they certainly don't think much of us. Still. Perhaps we can impress them better with this challenge. Eyes flicking to take in the opponents and the area, Twila-5 asks: "What are the rules of engagement? Are there any notable features of the area here?"

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
She's looking for traps, rocks under the sand, and anything in/on the ground that may surprise them. She's also trying to calculate how the sand will affect footing. Would that be Physical Science?

Physical Science: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

| Unearthing Ulumbia | Fly Free or Die | | Ship Roles |

The ground looks even and safe. There seems to be nothing of treachery involved. It's simply a sparring match. The sand here is packed enough that it should be solid.

The rules are explained clearly Meaning you can ask questions if something doesn't make sense or you want more information. To win, you've got to make Teosen yield. He'll pull his pets out if they're wounded enough. If he can knock two of you out, he'll consider it a win.

He double checks his armor and weapons before advancing onto the sand.

With a carbon steel curve blade and a thunderstrike sonic pistol. Yes, nonlethal, but it works a lot differently than it did in PF1. Rather than have a scene where every single combatant rolls at -4, we can just keep the rolls "normal."

The link you shared says we DO take a -4 penalty when we try to do nonlethal damage with a lethal weapon, but you said we won't do that. Just want to verify what we need to do here.

Also, the "carbon steel curve blade" bit seems out of context. Can you fill us in?

"Solid tactics, but let me add something. Most kasatha know their way around a fight, and that big blade of his will bite deep. I've got the best armor, and the best weapon to counter his. So stay away from him, and keep the dogs off me. I'll make sure he doesn't get to any of you. "

Burn lays his reaction cannon on top of his pack. He flips his shock pistol into stun mode, transfers it into his left hand. Then he draws his sword in his right hand, and marches unto the sand with Twila-5.

Can't actually guarantee the kasatha won't get around me, but I will do my best to keep him from getting into melee with you.

Because EVERYONE is looking to spar, and the fact that the ONLY time nonlethal matters is when it drops a target to 0 HP, and that SP doesn't actually represent wounds.... I'm saying that we won't use the -4 to hit. I'll be explicit when narrating the fight that this is a sparring match. Magic is allowed. This is essentially an all out fight where people surrender instead of getting killed.

Teosen looks at the group, "Four of you... To keep it fair, I'll only bring Stracka here. Bricka will watch." He and one of the Silicanids take to the sparring ring. "Good luck." They're the last words spoken before he begins to move tactically. Clearly, he doesn't much care if you're ready.

No attack roll is needed to Biohack a willing or unconscious creature, but there is one needed against a foe.

Dancing K.I.N.A.A.'s chair, Twila-5's fancy footwork eventually lands her in position to flank Stracka with Burn. She fires a shot at point blank range.

Trick Attack (Acrobatics): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Static Arc Pistol (E, Stun): 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 281d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Crit! Extra damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Trick Attack Damage, if applicable: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Critical effect is Arc 2. Since no other foe is within 10 feet, can Twila-5 direct the arc into the ground? If it must hit an ally, she'll take it on herself.

Nice shooting, guys.

The exo-guardian kicks at the charging dog. The kick doesn't connect, but forces the beast to change its direction at the last second and its jaws close on empty air.

Burn notes that Teosen doesn't close the range. "Put the dog down."

K.I.N.A.A. doesn't want to start crushing people's brains in a training exercise, even if this whole process is starting to seem foolish to her. She settles on tossing one of the softer rocks at the puppy, then stepping away.

Sorry, at a conference in Las Vegas, so posting is slow. It does look like it arcs to a creature unfortunately.

Twila-5 opens with some really sharp shooting. She zaps herself a bit, but the price was well worth it.

Kyra IO's follow on is equally precise. Teoson grunts, but is quite determined!

Unfortunately, the telekinetic rock is wide, but the opening definitely favors the Starfinder team.

Round 2:

Burnham twists his wrist so that the flat of his blade will strike the dog, then swings it down on the dog's head.

Sword v dog KAC, flank: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 2 = 11 ... damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

To hit bonus for the team against the dog : Coordinated Shot You can maneuver a foe to be in the direct line of an ally's fire. When you are threatening a foe with a melee weapon, any ally that has line of sight to that foe without you granting that foe cover gains a +1 bonus to ranged attack rolls against that foe.

I missed, but when I hit I might pick up an AC bonus : Close Combat When you are attacking a foe in melee, you know how to maneuver to make it more difficult for other foes to target you. When you hit an adjacent foe with a melee attack, as long as you are adjacent to that target, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your ac against attacks from other creatures that are not adjacent to you until the beginning of your next turn

And thanks for the flank, Twila. I love the teamwork.

Burnham's attack is a bit too quick, but still worth it as he's got the field to his liking, and hopefully a little surprise in store for the other team...

A sharp trio of whistles sets Stricka to bite at Twila-5:
Bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 for F & P: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The silicanid then takes a single shift away, and Teosen closes in.

Opting for Kyra IO over the more armored Burnham, he swings with his sword. Cosmic energy is beginning to crackle about him as he moves.
Sword: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 for DMG: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Solarion huh? Kyra says as she takes a guarded step back before firing.

And it misfires.

Twila-5's fancy footwork was so successful last time that she gets cocky and tries again. Cartwheeling off to the side to keep Stracka between her and the bomb Solarion, she drops her used-up static arc pistol and fires at Stracka with her azimuth laser pistol.

Teosen pays heed neither to the bomb comment, nor to Kyra IO's shot.

Unfortunately for him, also fails to fully appreciate Twila-5's pinpoint accuracy!

K.I.N.A.A. strikes Stricka hard, hard enough that Teoson orders the "dog" out of the fight!

Burn spins away from the retreating silicanid and advances on the kasatha. He spins his sword over his shoulder, and again twisting his wrist to present the flat of the blade swings at Teosen's head.

Burn rolled for this round already.

Burnham's blade flashes and slashes, but he doesn't connect. Teoson again whistles for his companion to withdraw. He then unleashes all of his attunement in a blast of solar energy! Kyra IO and Burnham are covered in the wash. Fire: 5d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5, 5, 6) = 23 REF DC 13 for half!

The solarion is still burning with a far more mundane fire though!

Twila-5 has never shot so well in her life. It's amazing. Exhilarating! She can't believe it! Use it while you got it! She does a backflip before lining up a shot at the Teoson. Come on baby, don't fail me now!

She manages to land the backflip beautifully, but can't connect on the shot. Aw crap. Well, it was great while it lasted. Back to the usual, I guess.

That's how the dice bot usually rolls for her.
