Xing nods her thanks to Senna as she follows Yash.

”I feel as though we are making this personal, now,” Xing quips as she jogs forward, stopping next to the big orc. ”We have no insight into the quality of this thing’s character.”

Then she goes through the previously-mentioned casting of Communal Protection from Evil, though since she can only touch herself and Yash, she’ll give 2 minutes to Yash and one minute to herself.

Afterwards, she considers the approaching brute, then looks back at the cart. "Should we move that back? I do not want this creature within his long arms' reach of our only method of transporting goods."

Senna steps further away from the wagon and gauges the distance – just outside of spell or bow range – then pulls a bit of grass to judge the wind… Accounting for distance and wind, she lets two arrows fly. The first lands in front of the shambling giant. The second sticks in his shoulder. He brushes it away like a fly.

Next up… the BADDIE

Know: Local

In future, if you could post the spell save, etc. info I need, that would be much appreciated.

One of the giant’s heads watches the melee combatants distrustfully. The other head – on the side of the body stuck with arrows – glares at the small archer, then decides to return the favor. He reaches into a quiver slung across his back and pulls out a crude javelin whittled from an entire a poplar tree. He hurls the massive sharpened tree trunk at Senna. The tree-javelin misses by a dozen feet and buries itself 5’ into the earth. The blow would have been devastating had it hit.

Both heads roar their frustration as the giant moves roughly in a direction between Sable and Senna. Sable judges the distance well between herself and the lumbering beast, then weaves an eldritch spell. Oil pools up from the ground beneath the giant’s massive feet. The monster slides, slips, and sidesteps… somehow managing to stay on his feet. He toddler-walks forward, nearly falling again, but somehow maintains his balance until once again getting firm ground beneath his feet. He wipes his feet like a dog on fresh grass.

Revenge of the Giant up next!

Know: Local

The light-headed Ettin considers the many threats around him, and focuses on the shiny object with the swishy tail…

He grumbles loudly, ”BAD kitty!” takes his flail in two meaty hands and brings it straight down on the battle-cat's spine, trying to drive Xing's broken body 15’ into the ground.

The blow misses... by a whisker.

The blow from the two-headed giant left Yash struggling to breathe. His breaths were more gasps than anything, and each one sent a shock of pain through his chest. With a roar that even the spirits would hear, Yash swung his greataxe with desperate fury.

Between Yash, grandfather's spirit axe, and Xing, all their blows hit and chop down the ettin like a mighty tree. His felled corpse shakes the earth as it impacts the sod.

Congrats! That was a CR6 Ettin with max HP. Also, barring some periodic internet hiccups, I am back online. What's the plan now, guys?

Lady Sable lowers her weapon and stares at the dead giant, puzzled by the sudden assault.

"What was that all about?"

I guess we keep going? We do have a deadline by which we need to be back in the city.

No idea. I wish I could ask. Sometimes monsters are just humgry, but who can tell. She sighs as the corpse and starts examining it for anything significant or any sign of religion with known rites for the dead.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Cookie is correct. It is sunset on Day 1 (of 5). You guys were thinking about camping when you ran into the Ettin.

Cookie carefully searches the filthy creature. She finds nothing of religious significance. In addition to the two large flails, large javelin, and large stinking leather armor, she finds a small sack tucked into a rudimentary pouch in the armor. It contains 50 GP and a battered Sextant.

His rage expended, Yash fell to one knee, leaning heavily on his greataxe. He still felt the blow from ettin, his breath coming in short, ragged gasps. With his free hand, he wove an intricate pattern in the air as he called upon his grandfather once again.

"Grandfather, if it...is not my time...I have need...of your aid."

He could feel his ribs merging back together, the pool of blood in his lungs evaporating. Finally, he stood, and smiled at Xing.

"Well fought" he said with a nod. He turned to look at Sabelina. "You too."

One side of Lady Sable's mouth quirks upward into an almost smile.

"Thanks Yash, and the same to you."

The sextant Cookie finds intrigues her.

"It seems an odd thing for a giant to have. I very much doubt he could use it, and he' too large to set foot on any ship I've ever seen."

She frowns at her next thought.

"We're traveling in one direction toward a grounded ship, and we meet him coming the opposite direction, in unlikely possession of a piece of ship equipment. I don't want to draw wild conclusions, but this isn't an auspicious find."

HP:30 | AC:16 ; T:15 ; FF:14 ; CMD:22 (24 vs grapple) | Fort:+5 ; Ref:+6 ; Will:+7 | Init:+6 ; PER:+8 (Low-Light)

Apologies for the delay. Life is life, sometimes.

As soon as the great behemoth hits the ground, Xing’s eyes are scanning the area around them for additional potential threats.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Yash’s compliment brings her up short, and she gives the tall orc a surprised look. ”You, as well, Yash-of-Many-Words.” She pauses, her golden gaze sweeping across everyone. ”To all of you. Well fought.”

She considers the sextant, her tail lashing with agitation. ”It does not give me confidence that the ship is intact or unmolested, at the least.” She looks back out at the direction from which the ettin attacked, her eyes squinting into the dusky distance. ”If the boat is being pillaged, time is against us. We should make as much time as we can while we have any light at all.”

Does the direction the ettin came from correlate with the coastline? And it was “gloomy” when this fight started. Do we have any daylight left?”

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

Xing sees no other threats.

As Sable correctly surmised, the ettin came roughly from the direction you are heading - paralleling the coastline. You are on a bluff heading NW-ish so the sun is setting roughly over the Inner Sea. You have maybe another hour before the sun sinks entirely below the horizon casting you in total darkness.

After that, we all know what happens if you travel onward:
It is pitch dark. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

HP:30 | AC:15 ; T:15 ; FF:13 ; CMD:21 (23 vs grapple) | Fort:+5 ; Ref:+6 ; Will:+7 | Init:+6 ; PER:+8 (Low-Light)

A Gru?

Xing considers the situation. "Traveling at night seems like a poor choice. I will scout forward and try to find a good place for us to eat and rest."

Unless there are objections, Xing lopes forward, her long legs quickly carrying her in their intended direction.

Xing is looking for a easily defensible or hide-able spot (or both, if it can be managed).

That pic didn't work for me... but I'll assume it's funny. :P

Xing quickly scouts the area, seeing variations of a few scenarios...

Scenario 1: You camp on one of the bluffs. This puts your back to the sea and would make it very hard to intruders to attack you from the seaward side - unless they can silently scale the cliffs that are a mix of rock, sand, and soil. But you would be in the open sward on the bluff with little in the way of concealing brush or trees.

Scenario 2: You move inland several hundred yards which provides you with tree and brush cover, but enemies could come at you from all directions.

Scenario 3: You stay on the bluffs but shelter in one of the natural dips in the terrain. This would give you some cover while still keeping your back to a cliff that is hard to scale. Of course, in a dip, you are conceding the higher ground to potential enemies on both sides.

So, you have Door #1 - Defensible but exposed; Door #2 - hidden but not particularly defensible; or Door #3 - Defensible, less exposed, but gods help you if you are attacked by enemies with ranged capabilities.

Monty, I'll take Door #...

HP: 36/36 | AC: 19 (T: 13, F: 16) | CMB: +3, CMD: 16 | F: +4, R: +7, W: +4 (+7 vs Charm/Compulsion) | Init: +5 | Perc: +7, SM: +4 | Speed 30' | Luck 9/9 | Panache 6/6

Indeed. Halflings are good at hiding.

Rat Bastard, Cheeky Monkey, Sly Fox, <insert anthropomorphic animal metaphor here>

If no one else weighs in by midday tomorrow, we’ll go with Door #2.
