Garrace Elaethros, The Last |
"If this be the work of the undead, the killer will never be satiated." Garrace responds grimly. "Come, let us find put down this threat quickly. Our best chance is to finish the deed while it is daylight."
Survival to Track: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Game Master Tea |
Storm leads you as you follow the tracks into a rocky outcropping nestled in a copse of trees close to the farmer’s property. The trees here stand about 30 feet tall on average, while the rocks to the north rise to a height of 20 feet. You keep moving and are eventually surrounded on both sides by a rising escarpment of dirt, eventually narrowing to a section where the walls around you rise about 10 feet high.
Please place your tokens on slides 3 and 6.
Roar of the Storm |
Walking next to Fynn, Storm keeps his eyes on the tracks as he attempts to find the interloper. "I should prepare a list of questions for the blood-drainer if it proves sentient." he muses to himself.
"One: is the blood drawn for sustenance or pleasure? Two: is the neck the optimal withdrawal point? Three:..."
Placed on both!
Gilgamesh The Fistful |
Gilgamesh holds his dagger just in case the attacker shows itself. He also scans the place with Fynn.
"This must be the place," he says in a low voice.
Garrace Elaethros, The Last |
"Though it still be daylight, vampires often enthrall others to do their bidding while the sun is up. Be on your toes," Garrace warns, his own blade in hand.
Roar of the Storm |
"Interesting, thralls can move about during the daytime." Roar notes down mentally as he draws one of the tridents, hanging from his pack. "Perhaps stabbing these creatures will prove effective to dissuade them from the vampires' task."
"What is a chupacabra? C-H-U-P-A-C-A-B-R-A? Is it some sort of vampire-hybrid?" Storm asks Dulcinea.
Roar of the Storm |
Storm, seeing the group become delayed by a tree trunk, will delicately step up the trunk into the further forest, warning others to take it one at a time. "Lumber condition is unknown. Proceed with caution."
With trident and buckler at the ready, Storm will blend in with the surroundings.
Avoid Notice exploration activity to use Stealth +7 for Initiative.
Garrace Elaethros, The Last |
"It is a short climb. No earth shall stand in my way," declares Garrace.
Athletics to Climb +7
Once at the top of the slope, he draws his sword and prepares his shield to deal with undead or any other threat he may encounter.
If Initiative begins while he is climbing, then I assume that Athletics would be his Initiative. Otherwise, his Exploration Mode is Defend, so Perception +5.
Gilgamesh The Fistful |
Gilgamesh walks up the trunk with Storm, still holding his dagger in case a combat breaks out. He continues to search for any signs of the attacker among the towering trees of the forest.
Perception +6 (+2 initiative bonus)
Gilgamesh The Fistful |
Oh, yeah. After Storm made it to the top. Haha!

As you climb, creep or otherwise move out of the lower level, you see a pair of scaled, spiny creatures to the north. They look to be just waking from a nap. They are around 5 feet long, including their tales and have fanged maws and wicked claws.
Fynn sees a sinkhole to his right and wonders if there are more.

Fynn Ulfgangur |
Seeing the creatures Fynn's body reacts to danger.
The slightly shy Fynn groans in pain. He throws an arm back to the others to stay away from him. His voice turns gravely and deep as his arm snaps backwards at a sickening angle. Screaming in pain his back spine cracks and breaks as he hunches over before throwing himself down onto all fours. Bones snap, break and quickly realign themselves as his skin bursts apart to reveal a thicker skin of dark grey fur beneath. The bloody sloughs of skin fall free into the brush, hanging their like snakeskin. This wolf looks ravenous with murderous hunger in its eyes.
He dives into the copse of trees nearby and hides, stalking his prey.

Dulcinea produces a fighting rhythm for you all to fight more effectively and then slashes a stone up the chest of the creature nearest to her.
Wolf-Fynn leaps on to the other creature, tearing away at it with tooth and claw, deeply wounding it.
Storm promptly hurls a trident into the opening Fynn has made, finishing the creature off. It drops to the ground, letting go of Garrace, with the trident still embedded in its side.
Crackling lightning then plays across the body of the other and it writhes in pain.
A stunning round by the PCs!

Aww, natural 20. Nice dice.
Gilgamesh The Fistful |
Gilgamesh inspects the freshly killed creature. He tries to know what the creature really is.
”Is this the goat-sucker you were telling us awhile ago, Dulcinea,” he asks her with a low voice.
I will use Recall Knowledge using Nature +6 to know about the creature and the place it is living into.
Game Master Tea |
Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Now that you have some time to look at the beast and the area, you are able to locate 3 sinkholes that could have been deadly during the fight.
Spry and stealthy, they most often make their homes in areas of high grass and protective rock, their slightly reflective scales allowing them to blend in well with such surroundings.
Chupacabras prefer to eat lone travellers and farm animals (particularly goats), and leave little evidence of their presence apart from the grisly, blood-drained husks of their meals. Their tendency to stay out of sight combined with their naturally nocturnal activity often leads superstitious locals to conclude the worst, imagining that a particularly reckless vampire lives in the area.
Garrace Elaethros, The Last |
Unfamiliar with these attackers, Garrace checks his wounds to see whether he was poisoned or if the wounds carried any other unseen affect.
+5 Medicine
"Do we need more proof that these beasts were those preying upon the alpaca?" he wonders aloud. "We should, at the very least, collect their heads and bury the remains so as to prevent their corpses from becoming restless."
Roar of the Storm |
Storm will pull his trident from the beast's corpse and will spend the requisite time to clean the blood from the metal. Once satisfied, he will sheath it in his pack and then turn his attention to the creatures.
"It is good that we defeated them so quickly. We should bring these creatures back to the farmer. Perhaps he will be at ease with their bodies." Storm offers before scanning the woods with his eyes once more, looking for any signs of more of these beasts.
