The Sorting Hat GM |
Hello selected players and welcome! As we get ready to have some RP and introduce ourselves off the boat, I will be working on our first set of maps. Do not worry, we have some time before we will need one. :)
On that note, I'm most comfortable with Roll20, but have experimented with Google Slides.
I have seen several recruitments where players will refuse to play a game if one and not the other is used- so, does any player oppose vehemently to us using roll20 for maps in this game?
Cordelia Jerrell |
Thanks for selection! I’m excited to be a part of this game. :D I’ll likely get a gameplay post up later tonight.
I usually use Google Slides for my games, but Roll20 works for me.
The Sorting Hat GM |
Yes! Just so everyone knows, I'll be posting on Monday. This was previously discussed with Scarlet as their weekend schedule, this particular weekend, is a tad full :)
If the other 3 have posted before then, I will be sure to update. Scarlet, you will have a chance to catch up on your rolls in a single post if more information is provided.
For the perception roll question- yes! I will take rolls in order always, as well. So if I list 2 perception rolls, your first is always the first I listed, second the second, etc.
For honesty sake, I would ask you roll in the order I listed as well, so as to not assort multiple skill rolls for the "perfect option" on each one with how rolling is done here.
Roll20 Ok, it would seem we can use this. Scarlet, Cordelia, if there is any issue please let me know. With this being written, combat will be written word friendly and can be expounded on as needed.

Some things just suck to try and explain all in RP, so for the mechanics of shoveling s!~~, press 1!
Just kidding- but, know that I allow players a pretty free reign to do something. I find just saying "make this STR check" boring and restrictive.
If you feel you have absolutely no way to contribute magically or innovatively, please feel free to roll a BAB roll with the shovel to see how great you do.
Otherwise, feel free to attempt what you'd like as you'd like. Poo snowballs, prestidigitation is an interesting one here that will probably mean I have to read, sleight of hand for fancy shovel swingin', or, if the intro is to show me anything-
4 things I haven't even thought of yet. :)
If you'd like a prompt of the rooms, feel free to roll some basic perceptions, and make a note for me if you are basically working as if detecting a secret door, hands along the wall, just taking a peek, or just flopping onto a mattress after a day of hard and stinky work.
The Sorting Hat GM |
I'm curious. While I understand that there are puddles and piles of offensive material from the day's use, is it as piled/difficult to work than the previous day? I'm asking because that means that someone was here the day before us cleaning it. If it was a bit more offensive and piled up when we arrived than today, then that would mean that it had not been cleaned as recently. What I'm asking is, is it cleaner today after the mess has returned, or is it just as offensive (including walls and...
I'll end up describing it as well, but to answer fully without much clutter in the Gameplay thread:
You'd easily note that while it's just as messy today, the smells, the presentation, it's all around different. You could assume that while previously the mess was because who wants to clean up so much, now it would be that the pen has attracted quite a bit more attention. Drinks spilled, broken glass, more fights as the gold flows perhaps, or-
Maybe someone's messing with you all.
You just aren't quite sure yet!
I would allow another perception check, kn. arcana, sense motive, spellcraft, or kn. religion to try and determine the truth of the matter. Otherwise, this is what you'd be able to observe.

I think Scarlet is just holding the charge.
Holding the Charge: If you don't discharge the spell in the round when you cast the spell, you can hold the charge indefinitely. You can continue to make touch attacks round after round. If you touch anything or anyone while holding a charge, even unintentionally, the spell discharges.

I know through me having COVID and Thanksgiving, my posting has been sparse.
Wanted to say just a few words for you all to see
1) Thank you for being patient with me
2) This current RP, conversation, interaction, the differences in approach, this was exactly what I hoped for when choosing this group.
As stated in recruitment- you will almost certainly come across things your PC is uncomfortable with.
Just as potentially confronting this new mysterious NPC, I encourage you to act as your PC would. I believe you all are- just reinforcing that I appreciate that quite a bit :)
Dr. Filip Vladimiriscu |
I'm not gonna lie, my immediate thought was "Oh, just reply to the offer with 'Okay.'" But I figured I should elaborate a little bit more lol.
Also, I'm not intentionally hiding anything, I swear and I will share what I know.
Scarlet Grey |
In any case, Scarlet will do what she's going to do. She really does feel like she's at the bottom, so any offer to help will be taken most likely.

SO
You have officially passed the Tutorial.
As we progress, skill checks become a bit more player initiated in regards to how you'd like to solve something, while I guide you toward the goal. Any questions, as always, feel free to ask.
To help guide, I will often post potential skill checks to begin say gathering intel, find shelter, etc. etc. Know that you can always ask for other possibilities, as almost every skill in a player led scenario would most likely have at least some applicability.
Edwyn- You have chosen to not take your payment, or gift, ahead of time. Know that upon completion of the goal, you will earn the same gold, and level up, as originally planned by the Broker.
Everyone else- you have access to a magic shop via the Broker, should you call upon him. You may also frequent the markets of Riddleport.
It is currently night, with a full moon, so call it dimlight so everyone can see :P
If you are ever ready to move forward, need a proq from the GM, or feel like you are ready for the next step, whatever it may be, simply write "ready" in blue like this.
For example if you are ready to leave the tunnel and have a whole new list of challenges, you would simply Ready
Now. Let's burn a school and some lumber mills.
Cordelia Jerrell |
I will be out of town from 12/18 through 12/26, with limited or no internet access for much of that time. Normal posting will resume when I return on Monday, 12/27. Please bot me as necessary.
The Sorting Hat GM |
As for the rest- per the usual, IC interactions especially during a disagreement of strategy are always encouraged.
Per the usual, when ready for next steps, you know what to do.
Ready
Having said that both Christmas AND New Years are upon us, so I hope you're all having a wonderful preparation for the New Year!
The Sorting Hat GM |
And so to kick off the new year with a bang we find ourselves here.
Deafened for Easy Local Reference
A deafened character cannot hear. He takes a –4 penalty on initiative checks, automatically fails Perception checks based on sound, takes a –4 penalty on opposed Perception checks, and has a 20% chance of spell failure when casting spells with verbal components. Characters who remain deafened for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.
For the sake of GM Sanity, I ignored the initiative penalty.

I'll be taking another short staycation from 1/1 through 1/5. Posting will be sporadic until I return to work on 1/6.
Scarlet Grey |
Some things I'd like to know:
For each rope, do they have one person pulling?
The two grapples on the other side that have been abandoned, are they not holding onto the ropes? Having the rope end go into the depths or float while they shoot?
Are there spare hooks/rope on the shore?
How far away are they all (floaters, shoremen, woman on water)?
Are there sides/cover on the ferry that if angled a certain way would give us more cover from the archers/waterslinger?
The Sorting Hat GM |
Now that you can see-
You can see each rope most likely had one person pulling, now only two are being pulled.
They are in the water.
Doesn't appear to be any spares on the shore.
There is definitely no way to get cover in the ferry aside from going prone, but that would really just be cover because you went prone, not because of the ferry.
The Sorting Hat GM |
Posting here as well, just for a double down on the ask-
Dr. Filip, if you are still with us let me know. If not, in probably 2 days or so, I will rotate another person in.
So that I can continue ahead of this, I would ask that you other 3 in the game send me your "top 3 list" of players from the recruitment thread you would prefer to have added to the game.
If you have none, that is ok. If you only have 2, that is also ok. If you only have 1 it may come to the fate of the dice, should I like the suggestions given.
Thank you for surviving your first combat quite fashionably, I know PBP combat can slog a game quite heavily- you will soon no longer be deaf, and at the River Runner.
I will reiterate again- for future battles I wouldn't mind slapping up maps in roll20, and I believe I have all of you in the game link. If you have a preferred token image you want used I"m happy to do so, if not I will use your pics from this page for easy relative reference.
