Hello and welcome to my table of the PF2 Special King in Thorns!

First, my profile has a quick run down of my expectations as a GM and a short introduction, feel free to browse over it. However, if you regularly play on the boards here, most of it should be pretty familiar. This will be my second time running this special on the boards here, so I'm pretty familiar with how this all works.

Second, please provide your PFS information here. I'm trying out RPG Chronicles for my play by post games.
You can calculate the results of your earn income roll now if you want it on your chronicle. Feel free to use the calculator on Archives of Nethys if you need.

Third, please hop onto pages two and three of the maps and images slides and update one of the character spots with a token, identifying information and then marching order.

Fourth, head over to this sheet for calculating skills. It might take some time to fill in at first but it will make getting and rolling checks and secret checks run much faster. Feel free to use the second page to grab dice expressions for non-secret rolls too!

Finally, if you have any questions, don't understand somethinga bout the sign in process, or if there's anything important or unusual about your character, feel free to let me know! Otherwise you can comment here with a done or something similar.

I'm looking forward to running this for everyone!

My downtime will be Perform. I have Virtuosic Performer (Acting Drama) Which adds a +1 circumstantial bonus. I presume during downtime I can get work in a dramatic play.

I have the Storied Talent boon letting me use my level instead of level -2 when rolling income.

So level 6 DC 22 x8 days. perform dramatic acting: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19

Fail. 2.40 gold.

There have been some changes since I played last. I think the only one that effects me is that I get different gear from being Spells x3.

That skill list is a bit buggy and my setup breaks is a bit anyway. For example due to Untrained Improvisation my Crafting is +3 even though it is untrained but there is no untrained option. And I use Perform for Diplomacy due to Versatile Performance but there is no option for Expert in the TEML tab for Diplomacy.

Yeah that has changed. There's no three points to move around you choose one school and get access to the items from it or the default item (which is always some type of healing potion(s)). If this is the first time playing since that changed last year, you can pick a new school and use it instead if you wish, replacing the extra lore skill and skill feat as needed.

You can read up on the options here. One big note is you can't get level appropriate scrolls of spells from lower tiers of the Spells school, they're only available at the level specified.

Whoops, yup both of those are problems! I hadn't noticed that about crafting and I added diplomacy recently and that's my oversight. I'll fix them up when I'm next at a computer.

Yes I heard about the changes. I'm fine staying Spells x3.

I can still pick one scroll that is of my tier right? For example both 1 - 2 and 5 - 6 have Heal as an option so if I pick Heal as my tier 5 - 6 option it is a tier 5 heal right?

Herondal isn't much of a healer though with Esoteric Polymath I can make Sooth a signature spell each day.

Well part of the change was the lack of 'x3' you're either spells or something else.

At level 5-6 you can get a level 3 scroll of Heal, i.e. probably the highest level spell you can cast. Or you can take Heroism, Haste or a Lesser Healing potion.

I've played Herondal and other buff based characters on pbp several times and some players often forget about the buffs I provide.

I will try to provide reminders during play but to help things out I'll go over common buffs I provide here.

Inspire Competence (Aid)

This works like the Aid action except I use my Perform (Dramatic Acting) +16 in place of the usual skill and I can't roll a failure. The DC to Aid is usually 20. If I roll a 1 it is a Critical Failure and you get -1 circumstance penalty to the check. If the total of my roll is 2 - 29 you get +1 circumstance bonus on your check. 30+ you get a +2 circumstance bonus.

I can't use the ability to aid some things such as sneaking. And of course since it uses my reaction I can only aid once per round. And not on a sustained activity.

But outside of combat if you are rolling a knowledge check or using some other skill assume Herondal is trying to help.

Inspire Courage (Often with Lingering Composition)

In combat my first round will often be a Lingering Composition Inspire Courage granting myself and all allies a +1 Status bonus to attacks, damage, and saves vs fear. The level based DC to get it to linger is 22. Success makes it last 3 rounds. Critical success 4 rounds.

Haste (Single Target)

The 2E version lasts 1 minute and grants the target an extra action to Strike or Stride.

Outside of combat I will probably be the party face. I'm also expert in Athletics so can lead on Follow the Expert. Follow the Expert has come up for Perform more then once which is nice.
I'm rubbish on knowledge skills though.

In combat after I Inspire and maybe Haste I have a few commonly used options.
Phantom Pain Single target. Can cause Sickened 1 and some ongoing damage.
Hideous Laughter Prevents the target from taking reactions if it works.

And lots of damaging cantrips. Identifying the enemies weakness is usually a priority in a fight.

Oh and sometimes Herondal will use Intimidating Glare.

The Golden Serpent Maps | Actions: ◆ | ◇ | ↺

That's a great over view of your abilities! I'll try to make sure to help remind people that they have Inspire Courage.

Also one thing to note is, even if one gets a lingering composition Inspire Courage active, one can't cast another composition spell afterwards without ending the Inspire.

Horizon Hunters

Bard (Maestro/Polymath) 7 - HP 56/85, AC 25 - Perception +14 +1 visual - F: +12 / R: +14 / W: +14 - Speed: 25 Male Gnome Fey-Touched Focus: 2/2 | Hero Points: 1/2 | Class DC: +25 (E) |

Good point. If I'm Inspiring Courage in combat I probably won't be using Inspire Competence. But that limit is why I only have the 1 combat Composition.

Oh, And I have a spellbook. In practice Esoteric Polymath was just to give me an extra signature spell but if any Wizards want to copy out of it go ahead.

It contains

1st 3/day (S) Phantom Pain, Sooth, (S) Summon Fey, True Strike
2nd 3/day (S) Comprehend Language, Hideous Laughter, See Invisibility
3rd 3/day (S) Magic Missile, Fear, Haste
Cantrips (Lvl 3) Detect Magic, Message, Prestidigitation, Shield, Telekinetic Projectile

Summon Fey is the Signature spell I'm adding with the feat usually. Mostly for a well placed Pugwumpi.

Hi there. I’ve updated Carmelizzia, she has grown up since last time I played her at the board when she was level 2.

Her exploration activity depends on what the other do. She can search or scout.

She can only do two things: dance and fight (while dancing). She’s an expert in athletics and perform, and she is able to talk nicely to people.
In combat, she’ll go in melee after using either of her stance.

I’ve put her in front, but due to her speed, she can go a little behind if needed.

Downtime will depend on whether I manage to use Stand Still. I’ve add one opportunity to use it and enemies where immune, so I’m thinking on retraining it.

Filled out of the various sheets with Crunch's info.
Haven't played them on the forums in a while, so I need to update the profile yet.

Downtime will be Crafting, helping to foreman some build or another.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 which is worth a whopping 64 copper.

Beyond that, Crunch is a frontliner with a lot of the typical champion / paladin reactions (retributive strike w/ the feat for the step, reactive shield, and shield block).

Apologies, I was pretty late to the special party when I realized I have characters in this tier and there was space available. Any chance I could snag a seat? Both of my available classes (monk and bard, both 5) are already here, but I think mine are different enough as to not step on toes.

The Golden Serpent Maps | Actions: ◆ | ◇ | ↺

Yup, we have room, but as we are partof a special make sure you mark yourself down on the sign up sheet for Gameday X or we can't garuntee you a seat. As for which character to bring, that's up to you, though the other players might have suggestions!

We have 2 front liners so imho Pyotr bringing the knowledge skills will be more useful. Finding enemy weaknesses is key and he has different signature spells then Herondal.

Carmelizzia Danzare also has perform. Maybe we can challenge the BBEG to a dance off.

That seemed like the better option to me, too, Pyotr has a lot of single-action tricks and doesn't have to do a second Inspire Courage. I was just jonesing for Hamarel's level 6, Whirling Throw will be fun.

I signed up on the sheet and am making my way through the other stuff, but may need to stop for a short bit. I'll post my character's unusual stuff and be done with the forms by the end of the day.

I too have a bard to play, but if I have enough time to get enough xp in time I'll bring my barbarian instead. I'll update as soon as I know for sure.

Don't forget to put your name on the Gameday X signup sheet if you're wanting to play at this table! If you're unsure about which character to bring, you can put your name and PFS number down only and add details later.

I might jump ship so to speak. Here I'm one of at least 2 bards but the 7 - 8 SFS special table looks like they could use an Operative and I can only play in one special. I'll give another day or two to see if they get someone.

Really? Huh.
I played tier 7-8 at Outpost IV, and could've sworn we were told it was essentially four mods.

Yup, however the two middle ones are sadly only one pdf and one chronicle sheet. They are the same for purposes of replaying and running as a GM. I ran this in the 3-4 tier last pbp campaign so I won't be getting a GM chronicle.

First, no worries about the misunderstanding, it's annoying how this was split up for levels. I wish we could have played together and hope you find another game to play instead. If you want there's going to be a table of 2-21 In Pursuit of Water recruiting for game day on the boards soon.

There was a 3-4 table with one sign up (it's been cut, and the GM is running the table of 2-21 instead) but the player might want your spot. I'm just double checking you're dropping as your name is still on the sign up sheet.

Healing might be an issue. When I played locally there were usually 2 - 3 characters with the Assurance (Medicine)- Continual Recovery - Ward Medic chain usually with Battle Medicine tossed in so I skipped those feats. But with 2 frontliners and none of us having Medicine, My spell slots may get eaten up with casts of Sooth.

Well, I stuck around this thread for a bit to teach my friend some PbP stuff, and he reminded me of GM Glyph replays. I would be willing to burn mine to stay at the table. However, I don't want to deprive the cut GM of a spot after saying I would give it up. But they haven't come for it yet. So if they show up I could step down again, otherwise I'll join back up?

Grand Lodge Contributor

I have Hymn of Healing, which is 6 and 6 at this level. Not a huge amount of healing but solid sustained hit points for one target. Not like I'll need to be using my composition on inspire courage if we have three bards.

Cool this will be a great thematic fit for Herondal then! I hadn't realized.

Also, I meant to ask earlier, but have any of you played/GMed and applied chronicles for the following scenarios with/to this PC?

Pathfinder Society Scenario #1–16: The Perennial Crown Part 1: Opal of Bhopan (especially if you have the blood offering boon)
Pathfinder Society Scenario #1–17: The Perennial Crown Part 2: The Thorned Monarch
Pathfinder Society Scenario #1–20: The Lost Legend

There may be benefits (and detriments) for them in the scenario.

Finally, On slide 6 there's an over view of the aid tokens we have. We have 1 of each kind and can only pass them during the different parts of the scenario, including the Intro (in other words right now.) If anyone wants to try boosting one, feel free to make the roll or expend the spell and I'll move it along. I can get a list of other tables together soon.

I've played both the Perennial Crown scenarios with this character. I can't remember if I got the boon, but I'm like... 90% sure I did get it. I can't find the chronicle sheet. I'll take a look around to see if I can find it.

Just a few notes about Tapi:

I have Dirge of Doom and Hymn of Healing, so I'll leave Inspire Courage to the other two bards.

I maxed out Int and have Bardic Lore (+12), so I'll be identifying stuff asap most of the time. I also have Kreighton's Cognitive Crossover to get a second chance on Recall checks (using my reaction) with an even higher bonus (+15).

I can do damage but usually don't. Most I do is via summons or some sonic aoes. I focus on debuffs mostly.

I'll give my hero point to our frontliner (Crunch I think?) to make sure the entertainers don't wind up fighting all alone.

Oh, sorry about that. I'm not good about switching my names. As Pyotr said this is my first pbp.

One thing I want to mention, if/when the group makes any Recall checks at the beginning of the adventure like we normally do, I have a wand of Share Lore I'd like to use. I can give three people (whoever has decent Int scores) trained proficiency in Bardic Lore for 10 minutes, so we have more checks. Tapi uses it whenever we do our briefing with the venture captain or whoever and they ask if we have any questions.

Whenever I do Recall checks with Bardic Lore or Occultism and get a regular failure, assuming I have a reaction, I use Kreighton's Cognitive Crossover to roll the other skill.

I also cast Pocket Library once at the beginning of the day for Bardic Lore. I don't activate it until we're facing something nasty or especially out of the ordinary.

No, one person could conceivably boost all four of them if they wanted to, but I was hoping to allow anyone who wants to try a chance. If you were asking about specifically boosting more than one Timely Inspiration, etc. Yes, only one of each token per table per game.

Ah I misunderstood. I thought it was one of each type per section. Can we pass the same one each time or do we need to receive one in order to pass it again? If we can just keep passing inspire courage to parties that don't have any status bonuses, I'm fine focusing on the Performance checks.

Otherwise by all means throw that Provide Knowledge check to a group that needs help with Recall. I'd go for NovelEnigma's group. They have a lot of spellcasters at low level, so knowing if enemies are resistant to their spell types would be good. If they already have one then Blake's group is low level and only has one investigator as a knowledgeable character.

We finished up the Intros pretty quick there. Part 1 will be starting soon, but I won't have time to post immediately after starting unless the Overseer is quick, so I've posted a short overview of possible encounters on slide 8 and the first one with 2 votes for will be where we go.

Additionally, don't forget to mark your choices of bonuses from the intro on slide 7. If you can compile things there it will help me keep track immensely.

Finally, some people have mentioned wanting to give their cold iron ammunition to someone who uses a ranged weapon, does anyone here typically use one? Four magic casters and two front-liners would imply no, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

    Horizon Hunters

    Male Chameleon Gnome Bard [Polymath + Enigma] HP 68 | AC 24 | F10 R13 W9 | Perception 9 (+2 Init) | 25 speed | Spell DC 22 Hero 1 | Focus 1 | Exploration: Investigate (Bardic Lore +12)

I'd vote for any of the first three options.

    Horizon Hunters

    Bard (Maestro/Polymath) 7 - HP 56/85, AC 25 - Perception +14 +1 visual - F: +12 / R: +14 / W: +14 - Speed: 25 Male Gnome Fey-Touched Focus: 2/2 | Hero Points: 1/2 | Class DC: +25 (E) |

Well on the last one combat is crossed out so clearly it is just rescuing an owl. Who doesn't want to do some animal rescue?

    It Talks! is obvious.

And The Mushroom Ring sounds good. So I vote those 3 and am fine with Befuddled Pathfinders.

Without a dedicated healer lets skip combat when we can.
