Hey all,

I'm recruiting for the Beginner Box(BB) Adventure: Menace Under Otari. This is a fun adventure, perfect for players of any ability.

This game will be for PFS (Pathfinder Society) credit. You'll receive two chronicle sheets, both granting you 4 XP, 14 gp, and 4 reputation that you can apply to any level 1 character.

Other than that, recruitment will be for anyone who is interested, especially those new to PbP or PFS 2e. For your character, you can either play one of the BB pregens (Ezren, Kyra, Merisiel, or Valeros) or create your own using the BB Character Creation guidelines, described here.

I am recruiting four (4) adventures for this module! If there is enough interest, I may be able to run two games.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out to me!

Thank you and look forward to gaming with you all!

I'm interested in playing this, mostly because I'm debating whether I should purchase this for my kids. We've already played home games and a few PFS scenarios so I don't know if this is going to be boring for them.

But I'm not a new player by any definition, so I will auto-defer to any new players.

I am in the same boat as Watery Soup. Not new, so will make place to others. But if you lack volunteers I am your player behind a PC.

I'm also interested, but much like Watery Soup (though without the kids), this won't be my first rodeo. As such, I too will happily step aside for any new players.

Sczarni

100% interested.

Probably with a fighter type.

Horizon Hunters

If there is room I would like to play.
I am not new to PBP, but fairly new to PF2E. I have played one game with this character, and a total of 9 games with PF2E. I also have a wizard and a cleric I could run (each have been only played once).

I'll throw my hat in as a non-newbie if you decide to run a couple of tables and don't have a bunch of fresh blood joining in.

I am curious about PF2e and would like to throw my hat in. I'm not new to d20 or to PBP but I have no experience at all with 2e.

I'm not a part of PFS, however, and if that's important (I don't know...) I'll readily stand aside for someone who is.

No strong feelings yet on what kind of character I would play if accepted, except that for the sake of learning things, I'd prefer making my own over using a pregen. I'll look over the linked BB rules.

Not a new player, but still interested if you do two tables.

New to PF2, though I've been playing around with the rules for a bit, I haven't had the chance to actually play.

I'll have to look at the BB character rules and see what I want. Maybe a rogue?

Hi, I'm interested as well although like the rest, am not new and will bow out for the others. There's a melee monk build or a melee investigator that I've been thinking of trying out.

New to PF2, but I have moderate experience with PbP. I have a dwarf cleric that I'm almost finished building.

Wow! Lots of interest. I'll definitely end up running two tables of this. I believe I can run up to six players, but will double check. Being part of PFS is not a requirement - anyone can play this game!

Also, for those who are interested, remember you must either use A) one of the Beginner Box pregens (Ezren, Kyra, Merisiel, or Valeros) or B) create a character using the Beginner Box character creation guidelines.

Pregens are located here.

Character creation guidelines are here. The Beginner Box character guidelines are a bit more limited than normal - only three ancestries (dwarf, elf, human) and four classes (cleric, fighter, rogue, wizard) are available.

Will pick the two tables sometime tomorrow or Friday, and hopefully we can get started by the weekend!

In the mean time, please let me know if you want to play a pregen (and which one you would like) or if you want to create your own character to play.

If I would be in, I would play dwarf wizard ;)

Any room?

If I'm in I'll use the Kyra pregen

I'd probably create my own character.

I'd use a pregen, but I'm not picky which one.

Ah I see. In that case I'll bow out then. Thanks anyway!

Are the rules the same as the CORE book/Advanced Player's Guides classes, etc?

I think I would prefer to make a character, if chosen. Question, can the chronicles apply to two different 1st level characters?

Sczarni

Figuring a dwarf fighter/farmhand with the brute combat style should be fun.

Very tanky and hits like a ton of bricks too.

I tend to prefer putting together my own character, but I'm flexible as to class. I'm also ok playing a pregen if that'll make things easier. Flexible is my middle name.

@Quen Pah, the rules for this adventure are a bit different. If you check out the slides here, you can see some differences.

Character Creation differences:

Notes for Experienced Players

The Pathfinder 2e beginner box follows simplified rules for character creation. The beginner box module is designed to be played using these rules, so your players need to follow them when playing the dungeon.

Ancestry, Class, and Background

Three ancestries are allowed: Human, Dwarf, and Elf
Four classes are allowed: Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard
Three gods for worship are allowed: Desna, Sarenrae, and Torag
Seven backgrounds are allowed: Acolyte, Criminal, Deckhand, Farmhand, Gambler, Scholar, Warrior

Ability Scores

Ability scores are not used; only ability modifiers. Whenever it says “add +1 to an ability” you add that 1 to the modifier.

Next, you do not get to pick ability boosts for any Ancestry.

Equipment

You must start with a class kit and the leftover gold allotted. The gear allowed is listed in the tables on page 37.

If you are interested in the Beginner Box Character Sheet, you can find it here

@eggellis, that is a good question. I believe you can apply to two different characters, but let me double check.

Here is everyone who expressed interest (if I missed you, please let me know).

1) Watery Soup - will create own character
2) Farol - dwarf wizard
3) Palandri - flexible
4) psionichamster - dwarf fighter/farmhand
5) Vandor Northwind - ??
6) eggellis - will create own character
7) Coriat - ??
8) Enchanter Tim - pregen
9) thejeff - rogue?
10) Thralleon - Kyra pregen
11) Killian 'Stouthear' Leadheel - ?
12) Quen Pah - ??

Will chose the tables tomorrow morning! Thanks for your interest everyone.

I'm thinking dwarf rogue. We could have an all dwarf team.:)

Horizon Hunters

Well since Vandor can not be used. I will use Valeros under a different alias.

Thanks! I have looked over the BB rules link, and I think I will make a human (warden) acolyte wizard named Choombolat.

Heard this adventure is best with 3-4 characters so sorted everyone into three tables: the dwarf table, the pregen table, and the create-your-own character table.

Dwarves:
-thejeff - dwarf rogue
-Farol - dwarf wizard
-psionichamster - dwarf fighter/farmhand

Pregens:
-Thralleon - Kyra
-Enchanted Tim - pregen
-Vandor Northwind - Valeros

Create own character:
-Watery soup - create own character
-Palandri - flexible
-eggellis - create own character
-coriat - human wizard (Choombolat)

Unsure:
-Killian 'Stoutheart' Leadheel - ?
-Quen Pah - ?

Let me know if this works for you guys - can move you around if you want! If Killian or Quen Pah (or anyone else) still want to join, please let me know.

Sounds great! Tip of the hat to you, Mauve, for agreeing to run three tables.

I think we ought to have a 4th for the pregen table. I assume the pregens were built so each can shine at their own time, making missing one more detrimental than at a custom built table.

Ah, screw it. Given the beginner box character creation limitations, the PC I was thinking of creating would have essentially been a Merisiel clone, so feel free to put me on the pregen table; I'll play Merisiel.

Not new to pbp, new to PF2,

Put me down for a dwarf cleric please!

I'm thinking I'll do a dwarf cleric. So you can move me to the all dwarf party if you like. Sticking where I am is good too though. Thanks and big props for doing three tables for sure.

Okay - here are the updated tables.

Dwarves:
-thejeff - dwarf rogue
-Farol - dwarf wizard
-psionichamster - dwarf fighter/farmhand
-eggellis - dwarf cleric

Pregens:
-Thralleon - Kyra
-Enchanted Tim - pregen (Ezren?)
-Vandor Northwind - Valeros
-Palandri - Merisiel

Create own character:
-Watery soup - create own character
-GM Stargin - dwarf cleric
-coriat - human wizard (Choombolat)

Let me know if this works for everyone, and I'll set up tables sometime tonight!

Thanks so much for doing this GM Mauve! First PF2 game after theory obsessing over it since launch!

Sczarni

Works for me. I'll have stat block up this evening.

Marysiel is ready to rumble.

Works for me. I'll copy her stat block into a body over the weekend.

Ezren is ready to rumble!

I may still tinker a little, but I'm basically ready to go.

I decided to try out the sheet. I'll add stats to profile soon.

I looked at the pregens to answer a few questions (such as whether the school spell counts as one of the two per day; it appears not).

Sczarni

Statblock:

Description Durnik is stout, square, and solid. He, like most dwarves, wears his hair long and copious beard well oiled and brushed. He wears well crafted if well-worn woolen and leather traveling gear, along with an oiled leather cloak and his well crafted steel breastplate. He carries a long straight greatsword over his shoulder, long quillions standing over his shoulder with the point grounded.

Backstory: Raised in the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains, where his clan controls a small but wealthy dwarven hold. They maintain their prosperity through a combination of well crafted trade goods and tools, as well as the mushrooms, mutton, goat, wool, and milk from the ranches. Durnik spent his first few decades doing what all dwarven children on the ranch do; chores. There’s never nothing to do on a farm, and Durnik grew up strong, obedient, and with callouses over his hands, feet, and knees the thickness of leather gloves. He knew the farming lifestyle was not for him going forward, so he saved up all the coin he could, getting equipment and gear ready to set out adventuring. Now, finally, he’s out on his own and with no farm chores to handle come daybreak.

So I noticed the warrior background says you receive the Intimidating Glare feat but then gives the description of Assurance in Athletics. Seems like there's a mix up somewhere.

There are a couple of cut and paste errors in that document: There are two Criminal backgrounds for example, one of which should be Gambler.

In the Core rules the Warrior gives Intimidating Glare, so I assume that's correct, not the description.

There are also some weirdnesses with stats - though these may be intentional in the Beginner Box rules. Some of them shift the stat bonus to another stat if you're a specific class or ancestry/class combo, likely trying to avoid letting you get a +5 bonus, but it's not complete.

Like a human criminal rogue can get a +5 Dex - one from human, one from criminal (since that limit only applies to elf rogues) and 3 from Rogue. Meanwhile, if I wanted my dwarven rogue to be a deckhand, he can't get the Dex bonus for that, despite not getting a Dex bump from being a dwarf - he can from being a criminal though.

Hey all!

Finally made the tables.

Here is the Dwarf table.
-Horst Broadbrim (thejeff)
-Farol
-Durnik Ironmonger (psionichamster)
-eggelis

Here is the pregen table.
-Thralleon - Kyra
-Enchanted Tim - Ezren
-Vandor Northwind - Valeros
-Plandri - Marysiel

And this thread will be for the create-your-own table
-Watery Soup
-GM Stargin
-coriat - Cherem Choombolat

I didn't make the powerpoint presentation on the character creation. I can double check to see if everything is right. I've heard that there are some inconsistencies with the BB characters so you might indeed find some stuff that break normal Pathfinder rules. If stuff is indeed wrong, I'll bring it up and make sure to post the corrections.

Look forward to gaming with you all!

Hi, excited to begin, I think the create your own didn't have a link?

Can we split the credit or does it all go onto one character?

I have a 1st level character at 6 XP, so the 8 XP will push her 2 XP into level 2. Is that OK? Will the GP credit take into account that 2 XP were at level 2?

Optionally, I could just create a blank character to suck up the 8 XP and fill them out later as needed. Maybe I'll do that anyway.

They can indeed go to two different characters!

And I believe that will be okay, as long as you are level 1 when you apply the chronicle. You receive 14 gp at the end regardless of your level.

And the create-your-own people can check in here!

Horizon Hunters

Is there Still room? I’d be willing to take the Rogue pregen or create my own to apply to my elf.

hey @Leywin. Yep, space for one more person at this table. Feel free to check in there.
