I'm contemplating to make a cleric though, so need a little time to think about it. We don' have one yet it seems.

play what you want to play. not what the party needs.

if the party ends up with 2 kender rogues, a fluffy swimming minotaur fighter, an elven wizard, and a dwarven doo-dad, hey, thats fine. it'll make it that much more of a fun time!

although...what if it were twin kender rogue wizards...

first: congrats on hitting 5k! apparently, i am at 4925 posts with this avatar. so thisll be 4926. gonna have to single word post to get my count up lol

second: not following you. are you looking for a more precise explanation about the special abilities and attributes that a kender would get beyond whats listed in the pdf, since the pdf references the races of ansalon book?

Thanks^^
Don't worry, the count goes up pretty fast.
Especially when you GM!

I found out about the book, what answers most of my questions.
And also of course i'm only gonna play what i think is fun.
Looking beyond the usual palate is good sometimes though.

We only get 1 trait is that right?

Liberty's Edge

Here is Buckshot Bob's entry

I am sorry I went quiet for awhile I realized the last time I read Dragonlance was 1992! I have been reading when I can.

I am thinking maybe an elven ranger or maybe a white robe wizard, but I am not sure how mages would work in this system. I need to brush up on the setting for that to. Wizard would be a new thing for me to try.

I am very interested, just figuring out what to create.

Here's Fanguar's submission.

The crunch is in the profile, but in brief, he's a Hill dwarf fighter built around bull rush and overrun. I envision him running around, knocking baddies over. A bit more battle field control, than pure DPS.

Brief background below. Hopefully, I've got my timeline correct.

Background:

Torin hails originally from Kayolin and was one of the dwarven soldiers that aided the Solanthus refugees that fled the city when it fell during the war of the lance. He also took part in the hit-and-run tactics against the occupying dragonarmy alongside the Solamnic cavalry.

Following the war, he retired from active duty and relocated to Solanthus to try to benefit from the post-war economic activity. For the last several years he’s been using the skills he learned in the army to earn a living, mostly doing protection work for powerful individuals, usually merchants, but as long as they are paying, he doesn’t ask too many questions. Between long term gigs, he signs up for caravan guard work, or serves hired muscle where needed.

Dark haired and stocky even for a dwarf, Torin cuts a profile like a boulder. Though pragmatic and mercenary to his core, he is still haunted by his experiences among the refugees during the war. He knows that you can lose all you have in an instant, so has a soft spot for the city’s downtrodden and tends to be much more charitable with this coin then you would expect from someone as seemingly menacing as him.

Well, youd be fine to start as a wizard, but you havent passed the test yet, so your unaffiliated. Earliest you can attempt the test would be level 5.

Liberty's Edge

How much of Dragonlance universe knowledge do we need to know? It has been year since I have read anything. Any thing I should read/ re-read to get an Idea of the setting.

I'll echo Dalron's question: how much should we know about the setting generally? I know... well, next to nothing about Dragonlance. Is there somewhere I can get a good overview of things without having to read a whole series of novels?

3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 6 = 19 -> 18
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) + 6 = 16 -> 15
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5, 2) + 6 = 15 -> 13
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1) + 6 = 19 -> 18
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2) + 6 = 16 -> 14
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4) + 6 = 20 -> 16

Those are, uh, pretty good stats. Definitely something to work with.

Sovereign Court

Is ermm Cavalier available since Only core classes are allowed.

Else I'll just go Paladin.

So Question.

Are any of the Kender Weapons usable with Finesse.

There is no language on the Weapons of Krynn site that says one way or the other.

I would hope they were because that would allow Kender to use their signature weapon with their natural DEX. Damage wise. A hopak would be the same as a shortsword and sling. As far as damage output.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hoopak translated to Pathfinder is a halfling slingstaff and as a light club in melee it should be useable with weapon finesse.
Unless the GM says otherwise^^

Which one is the closest 'friendly' port RIZZENMAGNUS? Zak (totally not Kaz :D) probably landed there, and decided it was time to take a look for himself at Solanthus - see what the hype is all about :D

He grabbed his backpack and weapons and hit the road.

P.S. I remember Dragonlance Minotaurs (and other races) had some really cool weapons (clabbard, lajang, shatang, etc) and equipment - are you planning on using any conversion for these RIZZENMAGNUS?

here is an awesome map of krynn.

Correct. Best port city that would easily reflect your mariner background is Caergoth. Heavily under the control of the Solamnic knights, it provides a solid base of support for the Knighs and the Solamnic countryside. While not the closest port to Solanthus, it does have some of the best deep harbors, provides safe haven in times of storms to all ships in need, no matter the flag or circumstance...

holy crap! did you guys know that you can make this text box larger or smaller?! what the heck!>!?!>! why havent i noticed this sooner? sheesh.

...the locals were very helpful in telling Zak that if he follows the highway out of the city, he'd end up in Solanthus. they just didnt inform him that its a very long walk.

as for the cool weapons: 1) i dont remember them 2)wasnt planning to 3) found this webpage for those unique weapons. the internet is amazing!

Sounds solid - Caergoth will be where he made landfall then :D

And thanks for the link to the weapons - there they are! Isn't this just memorable about the Clabbard? 'A blood channel runs the length of the blade, making it easier to withdraw from an impaled foe' :D

Updated Level 2 Bander.

I Know. I had already did the full court press on Unchained Rogue so I wanted to confirm based on the weapons list.

Awesome Hayato & Rizzen, I think I have over 13K with this Alias and over 40K total. Big time slow down since I got Divorced and started having a life again where I am not home posting all night any longer ;-)

---

I will get to that Wizard probably tomorrow. Still debating Human vs. Elf. Plus I need to work for a bit today.

Lol yeah i know i'm no match for you^^

There's some crazy high frequency users here, just look at TOZ etc.
Running games for 10+ years brings you a lot though.

Hi GM! Here's Archlich :) I present you Fayn! I decided to go with a kagonesti Zen Archer. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

As a question: do we really only have one single trait?

I so want to do a knight of the rose here

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) + 6 = 16

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5) + 6 = 16

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1) + 6 = 11

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) + 6 = 16

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1) + 6 = 15

stat: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1) + 6 = 14

I'm reading up on some of the Dragonlance books and Races of Ansalon atm.
There are several possible characters on my mind right now, but i want to be able to do them according and fitting to the Dragonlance setting.

Hayato Ken wrote:

correct. 1 trait only.

thats fine. a few nights ago i realized its been 10+ years since i last read anything dragonlance related, so i decided to start with chronicles and read through all the main canon books. So chronicles, legends, summer flame, war of souls. and given how slow i read, i figure itll take me about a year to finish them all, lol!

It seems there's some Dragonlance books i missed...

@Rizzenmagus is there a possibility to gain a dragon mount somehow? :D

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@everyone: Its been asked a couple times how much people need to know about the dragonlance campaign setting. the sarcastic answer well, enough to play in the world. lol

but seriously though, you should have a familiarity of the dragonlance setting. The absolute bare minimum, you should read Dragons of Autumns twilight to get an intro to the dragonlance campaign setting. This would introduce you to the uniqueness of kender, gully dwarves, the signifigance of vallenwood trees, recognize the names of Tanis, Sturm, Flint, tika, Laurana, and so on. The gods Takhisis and Paladine, along with Mishikal, Gilean, etc.

to have a better understanding, you should have read Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy. This would help you have an even better understanding of the campaign, names and locations that may come up, will have greater meaning if youve read these books. The idea why was tarsis so important?, why are hill dwarves surly towards mountain dwarves?, what are the different levels to Knights of Solamnia? and so on.

An even better understanding: Dragonlance chronicles and legends. This covers everything you would need to know about what has truly happened in world on Ansalon, and why seeing an hourglass constellation would be a very, very, very bad thing!!!!!!

for the bestest understanding of the world of Krynn: read allll the books. All of them? ALLLLL OF THEM!

if youre super busy, and cant read at least dragons of autumn twilight, start with learning what a dragonlance is. and then click some random blue links and read.

Dalron Northfield wrote:

HA! YOU CANT FOOL ME NALE!

dalron looks good. youre going to have to change the diety to a dragonlance diety, like Branchala, or your could just leave it blank and not hold to a specific diety.

I'm pretty much decided on the rough layout of my character now.
After some consideration i'm not doing a kender rogue, because i play something similar very often.
Instead i'm going with an (Qualinesti?) elf ranger/rogue in honor of Laurana^^
Posting the character over the next days.

@Rizzenmagnus, i sent you a PM with a rules question.

nightdeath wrote:

Else I'll just go Paladin.

no. Cavalier is a base class, not a core.

a paladin...hmmmmm....im going to send you a separate PM.

also: it occurs to me that i never actually answered the question if archetypes are allowed. However, since some have already made characters using archetypes...

Archetypes are allowed.

yes, only one trait.

also, your background indicates that Southern Ergoth is mostly frozen and dealing with white dragons and the thanoi. That didnt happen until after the dragon overlords occurred in the 5th age. this adventure is happening during the 4th age, only 3 years after the war of the lance.

works for me!

Horizon Hunters

Here's the Qualinesti Ranger i cooked up.
Background etc. follows.

Dark Archive

This is my knight of the sword who is working his way up to knight of the rose. I think this is a cool take on someone who is much like a crusader for his god with the archtypes.

Thanks GM! I made some adjusts to remove the reference to the white dragons and the "frozen wasteland" thing (ogres and thanoi were already there fighting the kagonesti on the 4th age, so I hope now it works)?

Is being a monk of Majere in the correct time period?

I read Chronicles and Saga, but it's been 30 years. Ha.

For those who don't have a ton of time that want a bit of a crash course on Dragonlance. You can watch the Dragonlance Cartoon. It follows most of the significant story beats of the first book of the Dragonlance Chronicles.

Rizzen- the map you shared looked after the cataclysm. But the time period if I followed is pre-cataclysm.

Horizon Hunters

Ha thanks for sharing that!
Might actually rewatch tonight, but will be looking for a better quality one.
Rereading some of the old books might also be a nice, nostalgic idea^^
Pretty sure they are somewhere at my mothers basement with my other "childrens" books....

Bander Drunkensquirrel wrote:

This is set in post cataclysm, essentially we are in Book 3 of Legends, Test of the Twins in Solanthus. Right before Kitiara's Flying Citadel flies over and towards Palanthus I suspect...

I will have my submission up tonight.

Okay I would like to try a Draconian

I am wanting to try a multi class Venom Draconian, a combination of Ranger, Barbarian and Rogue. The character has a lot of utility and the stats to make it work and be survivable. I think it is in keeping with the independent survivor streak the Venom Draconians are described as having. I want to play off the beastial features, animal savagery (Rage), scent and hunting (tracking), and eventually the ambush hunting technique (suprise strike), the reptilian ability to rest without losing vigilance (Endurance), etc.

Hopefully this is okay. Please guide me if you don’t like the concept idea.

Description: Duatha is a burly muscular elf. No one would mistake him for an Elven Male who would be a Wizard but that is exactly what he is.
He dresses like an elven wayfarer and resorts to steel and bow before he will show his hand at magic in a fight, Duatha knows that Wizards still are not well liked and until he either passes the test or increases in his abilities, he would do well to keep his studies of magic private.

Background:
Duatha’s father was a magic-user as was his grandfather. His martial training included facing off against those who would use magic against him and so he understood spell duels quite well as well as the power of magic. Still, he had no heart in following the family line.
As a young man his focus was on martial training until the Dragonarmies swept through Qualinesti. When both his father and grandfather fell defending the retreat of the young he knew that it was his responsibility to continue the proud family tradition.
But, the limitations of their magic vexed him, especially in the face of the clerical might of the followers of Takhisis. So as he learned he began to expand his magical horizons, re-considering the limits of arcane might, that is when he discovered that he had a talent he had never heard of before in the history books.
The time for the test comes soon as his powers in arcane might grow quickly. His journey though takes him through to Palanthus NOT Wayreth, He knows that only Dalamar the Dark and Raistlin Majere, the so called master of the past and present, will allow him the freedom to explore magic his way. If he must don the Red to do so, so be it.
Little does he know that his mother has asked his cousin, Aeleni, to follow his every move. If she should ever reveal where his true path leads he may be excommunicated form his family and the elven homeland…

My submission.
