Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

I am sure they should be able to get a set done in a day. Would just need the heat from the forge

GM

What's they plan here? are you trying to get replacement , scope the place out or something else?

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

So while we wait for a jug to get made, shall we take a look at the railyard tonight

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

"Sounds like a plan. Winona?"

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"I suppose we can at least try!"

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

So I guess the first thing is to find a potter, shall we get on with that.

GM

You find yourself at Small shop, between a waggoneer and a Chinese laundry entitled "Venning Pottery". The shop itself is small and crowed with mostly clay pots and ceramic jars. An man with a apron and a British accent asks "What can I help ya lads with?"

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

Rufus waves a hand in Eagles direction.

This fellow has a description of a pot he needs made. You think you can make it exactly as described ?

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

Flying Eagle describes the pot, and will make a sketch of it if paper and pen/pencil are available, and tries to describe the color as best he can.

GM

Sorry guys, I was signed out and didn't realize it and so didn't see new replies.

The potter looks it over and scratches his head "A bit like Greek that, smaller neck and that seems a bit off with the inlay. But I reckon I can do it. How many you need and by when?"

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

How about as soon as you can, and we should only need 1

Rufus drops 5 dollars on the counter.

This is for the rush job.

He turns around looks at the others.

Shall we continue to look around the shops

GM

"I suppose I would have it by the the morning." He says picking up the money "It takes some time to fire and this is a large piece, take at lest 12 hours to fire it."

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

As we exit the shop and the door closes.

Well, it looks like we will have to take a look at the railyard tonight to see if we can find those jars, and what they are filled with.

He heads over the the General Store to see if he can find anything that might be useful over the course of the night.

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"Sounds like a plan," says Winona as she adjusts her adorable in-town hat.

"Not sure what will be too useful... we don't really know what these creatures are, so we don't know if we need garlic or sea salt or hawthorne or some other sovereign remedy from faerie tales."

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

How about silver coated. Silver itself is to soft to make a good slug, but silver coated ?

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"That's a thought. We'll have to convince a local gunsmith. Shouldn't be too hard with a little scratch."

GM

Give me a persuasion roll to try and find a silversmith or gunsmith who can do that kind of work. Denver is a large town so I'll give ya a +2 to said roll

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

persuasion: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
wild: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Exact same roll on 2 different dice. man, I am glad they didn't come up snake eyes

With a little bit of effort, Rufus gets directed to a gunsmith that might be able to do that.

GM

Closer to the center of town you find a gunsmith, "Morrel Gunworks" The shop is on a well appointed street and looks to be a three story stone building. The front is well appointed with painted glass windows. You walk in and you can see dozens of guns mounted on the wall. Glass display cases showcases a number of pistols and rifles, nickel-plated and heavily engraved. Well tolled gunbelts and other firearm accessories adorn the wall. There are two doors, one behind the counter and one to its right. A young man stands behind the counter .

"What can I do for you folks? he asks with a chipper tone.

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

I was wondering, if you might be able to make some silver coated lead bullets.
Or can you put silver inside a lead bullet so that the silver comes out upon impact with something.

Silver is to soft and light to make a good bullet. But alloying it over lead, or inside a wax tipped hollowpoint bullet should work.

GM

Sorry missed this, its been a very long two weeks

The man shakes his head "Oddly I had a fella want such things a few weeks back. Not sure why you want such a thing, silver makes a poor weapon. He came in order a lot in.36 .45 and .44. He took the first set, but never came back for the rest" He walks into another room and brings out a box, with three sets of such bullets.

"He had us make 20 per each caliber, paid up front. Damned odd he never came back for em. I'll tell you what, I let you have em all for say $4?"

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"Well, it's been an odd day. We'll take them."

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

I agree, silver does make a bad bullet. Which is why I was thinking that you could alloy it over the lead. But we will take these with our thanks.

Rufus hands over the four dollars, and picks up the bullets.

Well, nothing in my 44-10, so I guess I got to pull out the colts.

Well, where else can we go shopping my lady, he says with a grin

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

Flying Eagle asks for 6 bullets of the caliber of his gun, and loads them up.

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

If I may be allowed a little ret-con...

Before leaving the gun shop, Flying Eagle asks the owner "What did the guy look like? Did he look...foreign...in any way, or speak with an accent?"

GM

The Clerk shakes his head "Nah, he sounded pure Tennessee. Grizzled type, Long beard and well worn cloths. Pretty sure he was wearing an armored duster. He may not have been alone, but no one came in with him"

He hands the bullets over To Rufus

Any other plans?

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

Looks down at the calibers in his hand.

Well, I know these will work, but do you have any Starr revolvers reworked to take cartridges, instead of Cap and Ball? If you have 2 of them, I grab them too.

GM

"I think we have a few, let me check in the back" He says then disappears into the back. A few minutes later he comes with a few guns. Two look well worn, but servable conversion, a third has a more recent conversion and seems well taken car of. The forth is a factory conversion with Nickle platting and etchings. "We Picked a few up in the last year. Morgan serviced them all, but one he converted himself. You can have any of these three for $9 each, and the Nickle plated for $11. Sound good?

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"That's a lovely piece of hardware," says Winona, a bit out of place as she's in her "townie" outfit, not her "gunslinging free-range marshal" outfit.

"I think this will do nicely. ... where is the produce market, by the by? When farmers come into town to sell crop?"

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

I take these two, along with those holsters, 2 boxes of ammo, so I can sight them in. Do you have any speedloaders?

Rufus hands over 50 dollars for the handguns, and holsters along with the ammo.
He then picks up the factory conversion, and well cared for conversion, and slips them into the holsters he picked out.

2 Boxes of 50 shots of .44 ammo - 6$
Both Pistols 20$
2 Quickdraw holsters 22$
Speedloaders 3$ each, depends on if he has

GM

The Clerk does have the speed Loaders and rings them up for Rufus. The Clerk Nods at Winona "There are a few places, but there is a market the next street over Halls Grocers. Or are you looking to buy large quantities? If so there is the Beal's Brothers on the corner of Moose and South that can set you up."

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

"So, we're waiting until tonight, then going to the shipyards, right?"

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"The market should be just fine, thank you," says Winona.

She turns to Flying Eagle and adds, "Might as well go get some fresh vegetables while we have time." Her knowing look indicates that she has something in mind.

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

My thanks, he mentions to the clerk,
as he pays for 4 speedloaders, and then gets his purchases all together.

He looks over at Winona.
Shall I join you at the market in 10 minutes, as I need to take this to my room.

GM

Halls Grocery is a well maintained, tidy but crowded shop. Barrels, shelves and crates fill the space, as well as a few crates outside with a number of vegetables. And older man with a trimmed beard stands outside, a younger man, with similar features stands inside behind the counter.

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

Winona nods to Rufus and puts one hand on Flying Eagle's arm to briong him along. "Just making a small purchase."

Winona strolls over to Halls Grocery and mentions to Flying Eagle, "You know, in a different life, I would've been a housewife making this trip to the grocery for the day's meals. Funny how our lives twist and turn."

At the grocery she asks the clerk inside if they have any fresh bread and garlic.

"The bread's for lunch, the garlic is for a recipe that I got from a friend. Just crush up a dash and add it to chicken stock," she says conspiratorially to the clerk.

GM

The clerk nods "Yes mam, we have fresh bread from Allen's down the street and some garlic bulbs. Not local grown, but fresh off the train. Is there anything else you need?" He says as he moves to grab the two items.

Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)

"So, Winona - is the garlic for anything else?"

Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0

Once at his room, Rufus quickly unloads his frontiers, and unloads his belt of all his ammunition, and stows them in his Valice.

He quickly loads 2 of the speedloaders with silver, and 2 with standard 44 rounds.
After that, he puts his new holsters on his belts, then fills the loops and both pistols.

After that, he returns to the market to meet up with Flying Eagle and Winona.

Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies

"I think that will do for now," says Winona. She rummages around in her purse for a few cents to pay for the groceries. "Thank you. Have a nice day."

~~~~~~~~~~
Later, Winona explains, "The garlic is supposed to be a ward against monsters from folklore. Will it work? No idea. Will it hurt to try? Well, it'll be pungent, but that's about it."
Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)
So...waiting until the middle of the night, then going to the shipyards?
Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0
I think that is the basis of the plan. But I think it is railyards, not shipyards.
Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0
Also, with that length of time, I can actually zero the guns to me.
That will need me to ride out a couple of miles from town, with a few cans or things to shoot at.
Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)
"Zero the guns"? Is that a Deadlands thing?
Male Human Toughness 5, Parry 5, Notice d4; Bennies 3; Wounds 0
Zeroing, means getting the bullets to hit where you are aiming.
I am sorry, if I used a term from the military.
Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies
It's not a game system, if that's what you're asking, Flying Eagle, but it is something that a trained marksman would do out of habit when acclimating themselves to new firearms. Figure out if the sights are off, how sensitive the trigger pull is, get used to the weight of the iron in hand, etc.
GM
Rufus has the time to zero them. If you are going at midnight, you have e 6 to 8 hours, which should be plenty of time. And as winona said its not really a system them, its just a gun thing.
As the night settles, you make your way toward the warehouse. It stands near the rail yards. There are streetlights, but a few dark allies near the warehouse. Between the moon and the lights, its mostly dim, but not very dark in the main street in front of the warehouse. You see a low fence around the side and can make out wagons and people talking near them.
Human Indian : Parry 7 (with shield), Toughness 6(1)
ALL - thanks! I learned something new today!
Flying Eagle whispers "Drat! I didn't figure people would be up this late. What do we do? Come back in 2-3 hours?"
GM
It seems only a few are still up, but you are unsure how many
You can try a notice roll
Female Human Novice | Pace 6 | Parry 5 | Toughness 7 (2) | 4/3 Bennies
Winona hunkers down and tries to get a feel for their routines.
